Synopsis: Music by the lake brings out Andrea's inner wolf. She and Shannon have to have it out again, but more positive matters are brought to light. Perhaps a stronger friendship?
Cast of Characters: Nightingale, Rage

Nightingale has posed:
With a gorgeous autumn morning in the offing, Shannon's taken advantage of her freedom from the medbay to head outside to the lake, bringing her laptop bag with her. She finds her favorite spot on the shore and plops herself down, dragging out her laptop, headset, and little mini MIDI keyboard to get some work done. There's a frustrated sound from her, and the headset is put back into the bag, and she has to work without them. It leaves the sounds of light drums, bass, and electric piano in a sort of gentle pop ballad style floating through the air, and she hums an unfamiliar melody....

Rage has posed:
The quiet morning gets broken up by the sound of birds scattering from the distance in a panic as they squawk loudly and hit the skies in a flutter of wings. Out from the thick grass comes a long eared gray hare, followed by the sight of a black wolf speeding after it with a rumbling snarl in it's throat. The rabbit is running as if it's life depended on it, bolting left and right through the grass, terrified.

Nightingale has posed:
"Scheisse!" Shannon is up on her feet in a second, grabbing her laptop and bag, and winging her way into the air. She almost instantly regrets the swift movement, with a few more oaths in varied languages dropping from her lips. The medics had said -light- activity, not fleeing for her life like that poor rabbit! "The hell...?!"

Rage has posed:
The yellow eyes of Rage gleams brightly as she barrels down upon the rabbit. When the rabbit zigs, she zigs along with it, claws kicking up through the dirt and propelling her harder. When the sight of Shannon goes flying upwards into the sky, the wolf slides to a stop as the rabbit dives down into a hole into sweet, sweet freedom. The large black wolf paces back and forth in a circle beneath the flying mutant girl, howling upwards.

Nightingale has posed:
"Scare the bejeebers out of me, why don't you?!" Shannon calls down to the big, bad wolf, chuckling a little bit when she realizes who it is. She's still reluctant to descend for a few more moments yet, though eventually, she backwings her way down to the ground again. "Medics said -light- activity for a couple days, not running from my teammates!"

Rage has posed:
Eyeing the woman in the air, Rage continues to pace, teeth snapping at the wind a few times with a click of her teeth. Her ears prick forward, now that Shannon is talking, then slowly starts to look confused, followed by a huffing whimper as she paws at her head. Whack. Whack.

Nightingale has posed:
Shannon bursts out giggling, and shakes her head, settling down on the ground once more. "Come on, snap out of it. It's me. Not a rabbit. Rabbits don't make music." She mutters to herself, watching where the furry little long-eared wonder took off to. "No, they just ruin your favorite pink windbreaker when you chase them as a small child...."

Rage has posed:
Whacking her head with her paw a few times, Rage gives a loud snort and a heavy shake of her body. A deep rumbling echos in her throat as her jaws part, baring large teeth. (The better to eat you with my dear.) The gold eyes of the wolf narrow as her nose gives another sniff, then advances forward a step towards her. The fur on her haunches are risen and sticking up in an aggressive, dominating manner. Her tail is standing straight up, ears perked in a sign of Alpha.

Nightingale has posed:
Uh-oh. This could -not- be good. Shannon did not like the look of those hackles raised one bit. So much for sitting back down; with that aggressiveness, she's forced back onto her feet, her laptop bag slung over her shoulder. For the moment, she holds her ground--but keeps her wings outspread just in case. "Andrea... I know you're in there. Snap out of it! Think maybe it's time to change back now!" She keeps her gaze fixed on those great yellow eyes, not budging an inch away from the she-wolf.

Rage has posed:
~HUNGER~
~STOLE MY MATE~
~LARGE CHICKEN~

The wolf takes another step forward, saliva dripping down her black muzzle to the ground below, her tail flickering quicker. Her ears slick back again sa she stares at her.

<< FRIEND >>
<< ALLY >>

As she stops, her entire body tightens again, followed by another strike to her muzzle with her paw. << WAKE UP. WAKE UP. WAKE UP >> There is conflict with the wolf as she lets out another sharp howl, storming in a circle as she snaps at the air with her teeth. ~I /AM/ AWAKE. YOU BELONG TO ME GIRL.~ The muzzle of the wolf dips down and snaps at her own foreleg, clamping down as blood oozes out from between her teeth. ~KILL HER. DO IT. TAKE BACK WHAT IS YOURS!~

<< NO! >> The wolf tips her head back and howls loudly now in duress, as if the animal was sobbing. Screaming.

Nightingale has posed:
Shannon frowns a little bit, hearing the howl. She had a funny feeling as to what had pissed off Andrea, and she sighs softly. "Okay, look. I don't know how much of you is hearing me right now, Andrea, but I can pretty well guess what's got you pissed off at me. But you owe me after this, for making me sing an unfinished song a capella. And it's -not- for who you think it is." She takes a few breaths, easing her stance into one more conducive to singing properly, keeping her eyes on her teammate.

"I look at you and see
Someone you say you can never be
Why do you hide from yourself?

I've seen it shine so bright
That glowing inner light
Taking my night, turn it to day

You are not what came before
Open up, walk through the door
I'll catch you if you stumble and you fall...."

She lets the last note fade away, the song sounding as if it still needed more. "And no... that was NOT meant for Mason. Let that sink in for a moment."

Rage has posed:
The wolf who is in a war between two minds circles more, howling loudly, huffing to herself. Whatever is going back and forth between her ears is anyone's guess, but the words of the song catch her attention, causing her to freeze. She stares at Shannon for a few moments, then slumps down to her haunches, then eases herself down to her stomach as she covers her face with her paws. << Stuck. Stuck. Stuck. Come on. Do it. Remember. REMEMBER. >> There is the sound of loud cracking of bones and a painful yelp as the lupine body starts to shift to make her way back into her human skin, leaving her in a pair of palama bottoms and a white t-shirt with holes in it. There's a loud sniff from the girl as she curls up into a ball in the grass.

Nightingale has posed:
Shannon kneels down next to Andrea, reaching out to touch her shoulder gently. "Hey... it's alright, just take a few deep breaths. You're back, you're okay. You're safe." Unslinging her laptop bag now that it looks as if the worst of the crisis is over--at least for the moment--she tries to smile. "I guess the old saying of 'music soothes the savage beast' is a saying for a reason. Yeah, that song isn't meant for Mason." She sighs softly, ducking her head. "Look. I was hoping to avoid this talk, I know it's a tough topic for you and you took a hard pass before. But this has got to stop somewhere. See... I may like him, but I have serious doubts about it working out. And he's never here, so it's kind of hard to say anything about it, you know? Let's face it... 'Dear John' letters suck, and it'd be a pretty dick move on my part."

Rage has posed:
"This has nothing to do with Mason. Geezus Christ, Shannon. Not everything is about him." Andrea says as she wipes at her face, then glances down at her mangled arm with a wince. "I went to sleep and found myself out here. It's the fifth time in two months." She pushes herself up and starts to pick grass out of her clothes and hair. "Part of my powers is that when I shift, I get lost in her head and then I have to really focus to get myself out of there. I don't know how long I was like this for. Coulda been a few hours, coulda been all night." She takes a look down at herself, then smacks her lips a few times. ".. at least I don't have a weird taste in my mouth and I'm starving. So, must mean she didn't eat anything. I don't hear alarms going off.

Nightingale has posed:
"Maybe not. But when I sang that song, it sure did stop you in your tracks, so I can pretty well guess that hit home somewhere in there." Shannon shrugs and smiles softly, just staying there, listening for a few moments. "You almost -did- eat something. First it was a rabbit, and then it was almost me. Only thing that stopped you was that song. Which I was hoping to ask for your expertise on, since the stuff I usually write doesn't have lyrics." She continues to hum the melody to the song almost as if it were a lullaby this time, letting music continue to work its magic.

Rage has posed:
"Well, you look like food. You got wings." Andrea explains. "Wolves don't know the difference between man and beast. I don't know. I try not to spend time in her head. She's aggressive and a real bitch. She doesn't like anyone. The Professor has been in my head before putting in safe guards, but I may need another peek inside to make sure it's okay. It's embarrassing." She plucks some grass out from the back of her shorts, wiggling her fingers until it falls to the ground with a wrinkle of her nose. "Who's the song for?"

Nightingale has posed:
Shannon turns flame red, and there's that little twinkle of stars in her eyes. "Would you believe Samuel? Not Cannonball Sam. Techno Sam. Started getting the idea for the song when I was in medbay this last time." She tilts her head slightly to one side, listening to her description of the she-wolf that had been in full view just minutes before. "That might not be a bad idea, to talk to him," she concedes. "I'm tempted to ask his advice myself on a few things. But who knows if or when we'll ever meet."

Rage has posed:
"Yeah, I can believe it." Andrea says honestly. "Sam is a good guy and you are so crushing on him. I can smell it." She teases as she taps her nose a few times on the side. "I met someone the other day as well who is intriguing me."

Nightingale has posed:
Shannon blushes and giggles. "I think the crush may be mutual. He made a point of asking what kind of movies I like the other day. So... fingers crossed there. Plus he's gotten into restoring an old motorcycle, and we've kind of got a deal going where I teach him about cooking and baking, and he teaches me about mechanics-type stuff." She cracks an impish little grin, nudging Andrea's shoulder very gently. "Oh? Who would that be, then, hmmm? Maybe we'll both be writing songs for someone?"

Rage has posed:
Shrugging her shoulders, Andrea gives her a teasing look. "I don't know if I should say. It's not a crush or anything. I just had a moment in which he walked in on Glee Club and sang a Journey song with me. He literally has the best voice I've ever heard. Perfect pitch. It's not even his powers he says. But, I can tell he has something going on in his head, you know .. emotional stuff. Sides, I only met him once. I'm not about to do cartwheels just yet." She bites her bottom lip for a moment, then chuckles. ".. His name is Jay. He's Cannonball's younger brother. He has large red wings and he can heal he says. He also has a gifted voice in which he can mimic other people. He's about my age I believe. He's sweet."

Nightingale has posed:
Shannon grins from ear to ear, and bursts out laughing. "Oh wow... Sam was telling me about some of his siblings the other day, and said Jay might be coming here. Sam kind of adopted me like a younger sister, but I didn't count on ever getting to meet any of the rest of the family. This is going to be freaking fantastic!" She laughs merrily, clapping her hands together in sheer delight. "Oh that's it, we have SO got to get all of us together and jam. You, me, Jay, Megan... this is going to be awesome!"

Rage has posed:
"I hate to admit it, but Jay is a way better singer than me. I know I can sing, but he can /sing/. Like, he sings from his soul. I would buy every album he makes and put it on repeat. His voice is just amazing. I can see him doing country, rock, pop, soul. He can fill a lot of genres." Andrea says with an amused grin. "But I plan on getting us together and seeing about maybe doing songs from Rock of Ages? It's a classic show and filled with amazing iconic songs."

Nightingale has posed:
Shannon shrugs and grins. "Don't know that one but hey, I'm down for learning some new tunes. Just fire me off a lead sheet and I'll see what I can do for a piano part. Or flute." She chuckles softly, her eyes twinkling. "Hey, you sing from your soul too, don't go knocking your own talent. I try to sing from mine, but I haven't got the training to back me up like you do. We each do well. So, don't ever... and I mean EVER put yourself down again in my hearing, got it?"
