Cast of Characters: Overlord, Dragon

Overlord has posed:
Joseph Miller has been trying to find ways of improving himself. He knows his agility is one of his weak spots. The big man has found some folks who were doing Tai chi, and watched them a few days, and is now out in the park near a picnic table. There is a book on it, and the big man is trying to follow through some manevers in it.

Dragon has posed:
Richard Dragon hasn't arrived in New York too long ago, but still found a place to live, for now, and a routine to follow, between exercising and meditating. And part of it, became walking through a park or another, to explore its every corner. Today, the man is walking through Central Park and, after a brief exploration, he happened almost casually near a picnic area where a quite large man is going through the motions of what, to an inexperienced eye, could be some form of martial art, to an experienced eye is an attempt at tai-chi, and to a master's eye is something to observe. And so it is that Richard, wrapped in his usual aura of serenity not to mention a pair of jeans and a black shirt, is leaning on a tree observing Joseph's practice.

Overlord has posed:
Joseph Miller does not seem to have much if any martial arts training. The big man is athletic but his fighting style is brawling more than anything else. He is trying though. He will try to go through four moves, and frowns, not seeming happy with it and starts over.

Dragon has posed:
Richard Dragon observes quietly, examining the man's movements and even casting a glance at the book, perhaps making the deduction that Joseph is trying to replicate martial arts moves from a book? Not that such a deduction requires very high detective skills! He waits a few more minutes, probably undecided on the course of actions to take. Every single person would probably just chuckle, turn around and leave. But the martial artist in him, prompts Richard to push himself from the tree, stepping forward and announcing his presence to Joseph with a "good day! Practicing tai-chi?"

Overlord has posed:
Joseph Miller looks over to the man and says "Trying. I saw a few people doing it out here when I have been out jogging and seemed like it might be a good way to work on calmness, and my agility. Figured this or dance class, and did not want to do that to some poor ladies toes." He jokes a bit "Got a book about it online and trying to see if I can at least get the basics down.,

Dragon has posed:
Richard Dragon glances at the book, then at the man, and at the book again, shaking his head slowly "martial arts, generally, cannot be learned with a book. It would be like, learning how to use a bike by, reading a book? Perhaps..." he looks thoughtful for a couple of seconds "the intentions are not bad, but, well, a book will not correct your performance... May I ask why you didn't join one of those groups?"

Overlord has posed:
Joseph Miller looks to the man and says "well, I do't want to slip and hit someone and accidently hurt them. I know it sounds weird but with me it is possible. I don't have a problem in normal day to day stuff, but with the muscles tensing and relaxing, I bump someone wrong and well." He reaches into his pocket, and pulls out a quarter and proceeds to roll it up into a bal like most people would tin foil.

Dragon has posed:
Richard Dragon observes the display of strength and nods in understanding "well, you could stay slightly to the side and still be in the group, though." he comments "clarifying to people that getting near you could be unsafe, and still train with them. So, they could help you learn those moves better." he tilts his head slightly then, again studying the man's face "tell me again, why tai-chi?"

Overlord has posed:
Joseph Miller says, "Well partially cause I saw the people out here doing it. I figured it would be good practice. I would consider other forms of martial arts but again most of those have more physical contact. Not that am afraid of physical combat if needed just try to be more safe around innocent folk."

Dragon has posed:
Richard Dragon nods again "and if you don't want a martial art made for, well, fighting purposes as well, then yes tai-chi is a very good choice since it was indeed developed as something made to improve and then maintain the body conditions. Though, there is a very good reason for which it is a group activity, it is to learn from the others as well as from yourself, and to make so that the, concentrated chi, of several people can amplify itself tus yelding better resoults..."

Overlord has posed:
Joseph Miller looks to the man and says "You seem to know a decent amount about martial arts, you study them?" he will ask the man, and ads "Is there one you would suggest for someone of my abilities?

Dragon has posed:
Richard Dragon smiles slightly and then turns the smile into a chuckle, nodding almost imperceptibly "I study martial arts, them! As for what I recommend, it again depends from what you want to achieve. You're strong, so against most people a punch would be enough I suppose even without much technique. So well, it indeed comes down from what you want from it... Do you want to use it for defense? For offense? Do you just want to use it to improve your body? And in that case, do you want to improve your flexibility? Your speed? Perhaps your reflexes?"

Overlord has posed:
Joseph Miller hmms and says "Honestly the flexibility, speed, and maybe percision. I know how to control my strength pretty well, have been doing it for years. Most big guys are slow, sorta like George Formen in boxing. May only hit once in every forth of fifth hit, but when they do, it is like a freight train.

Dragon has posed:
Richard Dragon nods again and contemplates for a few seconds "then tai-chi is indeed a good choice. If, you want to work on speed and precision in an offensive way, you might want to consider something like karate on the eastern front, perhaps even muai tai if you like punches, kicks, elbows, knees and headbutting... But" he he gestures towards the book "find a dojo, don't follow a book bought online. Those are, well, never as good as a good sensei, and as I said they don't correct your mistakes."

Overlord has posed:
Joseph Miller hmms and says "Muai Tai, sounds a bit like a brawling martial arts, I might check into that one. You know of any dojos around the area that might be willing to take someone with my abilities?

Dragon has posed:
Richard Dragon nods "indeed it is, it is basically the tai box! Called also the art of the eight limbs, or eight points, since you use indeed elbows and knees in addition to fists and feet. It is an unrelenting assault of limbs indeed if you perform it well! Devastating, but still precise..." he grins, then actually ponders the question and shakes his head "I can't give you names, yet. I knew some trainers in New York some years ago, but since I only recently returned, I can't really be sure... If I remember correctly there was a gym in, brooklin, which had that kind of offered training... You might want to check in there"

Overlord has posed:
Joseph Miller hmms and nods his head a bit to this and says "I will have to look into it, think you could give me some advice on that I was doing wrong with my technique so far?" He asks the man.

Dragon has posed:
Richard Dragon nods and steps forward, taking a better glance at the book "I think, for a start, you were trying to perform the movement while looking at the book. Which is a static image, or a serie of static images, that don't give the right fluidity impression. Moreso, while performing tai-chi you need to be focused on it, not on trying to interpretate images" he assumes a balanced posture, feet spread at shoulders' width, then starts slowly performing some basic postures and tai-chi movements and forms "try replicating some of those. Be fluid and focus on your breathing as well as on your body and posture. Muscles are nothing if you don't breathe properly."

Overlord has posed:
Joseph Miller will study the man a moment, and will step a bit away from the man, trying to mimic his stance. He will mimic the man's movements, trying to learn a bit and says "Do you flow easily or sudden sharp stops?"

Dragon has posed:
Richard Dragon studies Joseph's movements, pointing out or trying to point out the small mistakes here and there if any, staying out of range just so that the man may feel comfortable. "generally speaking you want to go with a fluid movement. It is best to move fluidly, than to sharp stop and turn if not under specific circumstances. The energy your body uses to stop a movement and turn suddenly is lost, while a fluid turn and redirection is more efficent!

Overlord has posed:
Joseph Miller hmms and nods his head a bit to this, and says "I think I might be able to do this it is an interesting feeling. Is there a suggested time for how long you should do this? Or is it till I feel I am done?

Dragon has posed:
"well, you shouldn't overwork yourself..." Richard replies "yet there is no specified amount of time in which to do this, or for which to do this. If you just want a regular practice an hour a day should be more than sufficent" he shrugs "of course if you want more resoults you need to do more, but then again, your body knows when to stop.."

Overlord has posed:
Joseph Miller nods his head a bit to this and says "I think I might start with the hour a day and see how that goes. By the way, my Name is Joe, thanks for the advice." He continues following along the moves going with the corrections Richard have shown him.

Dragon has posed:
Richard Dragon bows his head in a respectful greeting and introduces himself as "richard, a pleasure to meet you Joe. I hope your practice brings the wanted resoults! In the case of tai-chi, however, expect many of the more beneficial resoults to be long term ones..."
