Have You Heard The Word On Sentinels
Date of Scene: 13 October 2019
Location: Ororo's Attic - Xavier's School
Synopsis: Kitty and Shannon visit Ororo's loft and news about the Sentinels is shared.
Cast of Characters: Shadowcat, Storm, Nightingale

Shadowcat has posed:
The news from the Avengers has Kitty rushing to the Sanctum to take the shortcut back to the school through the magic mirror that links her rooms. She runs down the staff hallway, stopping to stick her head in rooms and deliver the news.

Before long she's made her way up to the attic doorway that leads to Ororo Munroe's room. "Storm! Storm, you in there!?" Kitty calls excitedly, and only just resists the urge to phase herself through the door without waiting for an answer.

Storm has posed:
"I'm here, Kathryn, the door is open." Ororo's voice is calm and even, a contrast to Kitty's excited voice. The door is actually ajar-- just a crack-- and the scent of fresh-made curry assails the nostrils as one reaches the landing of Ororo's little private abode.

Of course, for Kitty, 'open' applies to most any door. It's a polite way of saying 'come in'.

The small garden of plant life in Ororo's attic has been bagged in plastic and trimmed back in anticipating of the winter freeze; already some of the heaviest containers have been moved to the greenhouse for longer-term storage. Ororo stands over her small wood-fired stove, which emits a cheery warmth to fight the chill of living under the eaves. Ororo herself is in a long dress of bold red geometric designs that resembles nothing so much as a serape, with black leggings and warm socks. When Kitty charges in Ororo turns with a spoonful of soup in one hand, and the other cupped under it to catch errant drops. "Madras curry, with a bit of coconut. Try it," she tells Kitty, before the girl can burst out with her news.

Shadowcat has posed:
And indeed Kitty just steps through the door rather than opening it. She's wearing hip hugger jeans and a tight fitting knit shirt that shows the toned body of the mature young woman that the youthful girl who came to the school has grown into. And she's literally bouncing, more like that youthful girl than the mature one.

"He's destroyed, they got him!" Kitty says. "Sebastion! The Avengers closed in on the recycling plant after the Master Mold detonated, and were able to take Sebastion down!" she exclaims happily. She moves over and will wrap Storm in a joyous hug, still bouncing happily. "I don't know know if this will completely end the Sentinel threat, but it's... just huge!" she says.

Storm has posed:
Ororo's eyes go wide with joy and she hastily tosses the spoon back in the pot before Kitty launches a hug at her. The gesture is heartily returned, a brassy laugh filling the room. She wraps her arms around Kitty's shoulders and twirls with her in a mutual orbit. Feet momentarily lift off the air for a dramatic rotation and she sets them both back down quite daintily.

"That is /wonderful/ news," Ororo declares with a beaming smile. "We should send the Avenger's a 'thank you'. The X-men, I mean," she clarifies. "I've no idea what to get them as a gift, though. They're all billionaires and royalty." Her hands spread helplessly. "But, a letter of thanks, at the least. Oh, I'll rest much easier tonight," she says, and turns her face skywards to share her joy with Mother Nature.

Shadowcat has posed:
Kitty beams and says, "Maybe another cookout. Sebastion and Sentinel pinatas? Or, it's kind of cold for a cookout, but a party in the gym? Scrimmage basketball game with the students?" The young woman lets out a joyous laugh. "Oh I don't think I knew how much dread I was living with until now feeling so much of it lifted. The Friends of Humanities ability to make new Sentinels destroyed, Trask under arrest, and no cyborg from the future here to pass on his technology? I just feel like a ton is lifted off my shoulders."

Kitty thinks for a moment. "Though we probably need to still track down what Sebastion had been up to. Make sure we're not leaving a ticking timebomb behind. Well, not going to let that spoil my mood though," she says with a grin.

Storm has posed:
"The Sentinels represented a very grave threat to mutants everywhere," Ororo agrees. She turns back to her curry and rice, dishes up a bowl, and presses it into Kitty's hands along with a spoon. If nothing else, it'll stop her from flinging her hands around willy-nilly in excitement.

Once she's procured a bowl for herself, Ororo moves to sit at her tiny corner table and offers Kitty the other chair. "Let's not get /too/ hasty formalizing things," Ororo advises Kitty. "It's one thing if individual students get on Twitter and celebrate it, but a 'Sentinel Liberation Day' at the Institute might provoke a few brows."

She grins at Kitty, the expression radiantly bright. "Not that I wouldn't be dancing in the gym with everyone else, of course," she concedes.

Shadowcat has posed:
Kitty laughs and says, "Well not like we'd send out public invitations to anyone but the Avengers." Her joyous mood has the young woman buoyant. While the general mutant population might not hear about Sebastion, won't have any idea he existed even, for those who did it is a major accomplishment in the battle.

Kitty grins and sits on the arm of a couch. "How is everything else going for you? Haven't had a whole lot of opportunity to talk. With anyone, actually. There was the raid on the Master Mold and rescuing Scott, but other than that... Spider-Man got attacked by a few villains who were all gunning for him. Hit with a neurotoxin designed to affect him specifically. He's going to be ok, they were able to purge it from his system. I've been there in their medical since," Kitty says.

Storm has posed:
"I don't know Spider-Man well, but I'm glad you've been keeping up friendships with the Avengers," Ororo tells Kitty. "It's nice of you to keep him company while he's recuperating. I imagine the facilities at that ... building, are very state-of-the-art." Ororo's flickering expression of distaste seems more aimed at the inherent ostentation surrounding any mention of the Avengers or their operations. Tony Stark is not one who does 'subtle' well.

Ororo starts into her curry with gusto; neither the spices nor temperature seem to be bothering her. "As for myself, it's been a little less exciting lately," Ororo admits. "Midterms are taking a bit more of my focus than I'd like, and we're prepping the greenhouse for winter. I don't want my roses caught in a nasty cold snap again, like last year," she grouses.

Shadowcat has posed:
Kitty Pryde takes a bite of the curry as she sits on the arm of the couch. "Mmm, this has some kick to it," Kitty says with a grin. It doesn't slow her in eating the tasty dish too much though. "I managed to sneak in a trip back to Deerfield with Peter. Taking him home to meet the parents. Parent. Dad's still living in Genosha," she says.

Kitty breaks out in a warm laugh. "Mom was taken with him. More than Jason, and she didn't dislike him. Though she can tell how much better of a fit Peter and I are together. Good thing he has a high metabolism, Mom was loving the chance to cook for more than one person," she says with a warm laugh. Kitty holds out her hand to Ororo. "Also gave me this. Not an engagement ring, just... he wanted me to have it. It is his Aunt's ring," she says.

Kitty takes another bite of the curry as if taking a moment to gather her next words. "I think he kind of... was struck by a sense of our mortality after seeing me in the coma," she says softly.

Nightingale has posed:
Those few months past, an offer had been made to Shannon to visit miss Munroe in her attic, but the chance had never presented itself. Between Sentinels, Loki, studies, and training, she had seen precious little of someone who had taught her so much in just a brief meeting. It was high time to change that. After picking up a small wooden box from her dorm, and tucking away a small wrapped package into her little brown leather pouch, she tiptoes up the stairs towards the door she hoped was open.

Indeed, it did seem to be open just a hair, and from within were savory, slightly spicy aromas, just wafting out into the hallway. She taps softly on the door, waiting patiently outside.

Storm has posed:
Ororo's face rises and falls expressively in time with the rollercoaster of Kitty's train of thought. A mixture of approval-- both sorority and maternal-- breaks along with a grin at the endorsement from the various parental units involved.

When Kitty proffers the ring, Ororo's white brows climb upwards a half-inch and she takes Kitty's hand carefully in her callused grip. "It's very pretty," Ororo tells Kitty, releasing her fingers. "I'm obligated to tell you to be careful about rushing into something. Ring or not," she smiles. "But ... yes, watching a friend in pain can change things in a person. We realize what we miss sometimes only after we've lost it."

The rapping at her door is greeting with an "It's open!". When Shannon pushes in, Ororo smiles at the girl. "Hullo Shannon, how nice to see you," she tells the angel-winged mutant. "Do come join us. Would you like a bowl of curry and rice?" she offers.

Shadowcat has posed:
Kitty nods in agreement with Ororo after the African woman looks at the pretty ring. It's a far simpler one than that which she had from her last relationship, and still wears sometimes on a necklace about her neck, though less often by far than the Star of David necklace.

"I don't plan to get married any time soon. But it's nice seeing Peter's expression when he notices it on my finger. I think it helps put him at ease and helps put some of those memories of the medical bay out of his mind," she confirms.

As Shannon enters, Kitty gives a warm smile and waves to her. "Hello Shannon," she says in greeting. "It's delicious. Spicy too."

Nightingale has posed:
Shannon slips inside and nudges the door partially closed--maintaining miss Munroe's open-door policy even now. In one hand is a small mahogany chest, and an impish little smile on her face. "Is it beware angels bearing gifts? Or was that Romulans?" Oh yes, betraying her geek creds, for sure! Her eyes roll at the mention of medical bays, and she lets out a short, somewhat rueful laugh. "And it's definitely not jello!"

She slides the little wooden chest onto the nearest counter surface she can find and flips open the small gold-toned clasp on the front, opening the box. It's filled with an assortment of teas. "No rooibos, but my folks gave me this on my visit home last week. Thought it'd be nice to share. Might be something in there that'd go well with curry."

Storm has posed:
"How very thoughtful of you," Ororo thanks Shannon. She goes over the contents of the box and her face brightens. "I can make a nice chai out of this," she offers to the girls, and rises to set about doing just that. "It will go quite nicely with the meal." She dishes a bowl of rice and curry up for Shannon before it cools, and offers it to the winged girl. Ororo's apartment has some cold spots thanks to the drafty old insulation, but there's a warm pocket of hot air centered around that small wood-fired stove and the table near it.

"What brings you up, Shannon? There's plenty of curry if that's the reason why; eat as much as you like. Spices help keep the body warm when the temperatuer gets chilly," she advises the winged girl.

Shadowcat has posed:
Kitty smiles and stays quiet as the other two women manage the tea. Kitty takes another bite of her bowl. "Shannon, will be making an announcement in a bit. There were a pair of big victories against the Sentinels. Really big victories. The ability to make more of them, and advance them technologically, was dealt a great blow," Kitty says. "So it is a good day for a little celebrating."

Nightingale has posed:
The young winged teen accepts the bowl with a smile of gratitude, letting the warmth seep into her hands. She wafts a bit of the steam from the top towards her, and lets out a little mouse-like sneeze. "I hadn't gotten to see much of you aside from the day I got here, and that field trip to Horizon Labs. You were really kind and I never got a chance to get to know you better."

Shannon smiles warmly to Kitty, and giggles softly. "Hi, Kitty! No medbay this time. How's it going?" There's a little bit of a twinkle in her eyes, and her smile widens still further when she hears the news. "So, maybe a few less of them in the days to come. And fewer trips to the medbay." She frowns slightly, though, a somewhat darker thought crossing her mind. But for the moment, in light of good news, she keeps it to herself.

Storm has posed:
"Should have signed up for botany class," Ororo advises Shannon with a flashing grin. "Then you'd be seeing very fractionally more of me, /and/ be up to your elbows in fertilizer for the harvest project."

"But yes, the news regarding the Sentinels is quite momentous," Ororo agrees. Hot tea is poured from kettle to pot, and a little serviette brought so everyone can steep their own tea and add the exotic spices for the chai as they wish. "Sentinels are one of the most dangerous weapons in the hands of violent extremists. They've been set back many years by this development."

Shadowcat has posed:
"Let's just hope it's a death knell for the kind of path things could have taken if not stopped. But we still have a lot of work to do," Kitty says. "The same prejudice and hatred that spawned these things is still out there. Just we've reduced their avenues for furthering that," the young woman says.

She finishes up her bowl of curry. "Speaking of, I need to go let others know, and prepare an announcement," she says. Kitty takes the bowl over and washes it before going. "Thank you for the curry, Ororo," she says warmly. "Hopefully many fewer trips to the med bay, yes," Kitty agrees with Shannon. "Though we still need to be on our guard." She doesn't mention the recent attack on the boundaries of the school.

Nightingale has posed:
Shannon hesitates a moment, tucking into her curry while she debates how to break this latest bit of news to both women. "The two of you might want to talk to Cannonball, then, if you haven't already." She leaves it to miss Munroe to ask for more if she wants, or to take the hint offered. A wistful smile crosses her face, and she twirls her fork about in the bowl of curry for a moment. "I hope someday that kind of prejudice doesn't even have to exist."

Her expression shifts, and she sets her bowl down. Going to the leather pouch at her side, she opens it, and withdraws a small package wrapped in blood-red tissue paper, and tied with a silver ribbon. "If it's no trouble, Kitty, you might have a better chance of relaying this present than I would." She pauses, smiling a bit more. "It's for Thor. He was incredibly kind when he stopped in to... deal with certain matters."

Storm has posed:
Ororo gives Shannon a look of curious speculation, and nods at the woman. "I'll do that," she promises Shannon. "In fact, this is as good a time as any. Come, let's go see if we can find him," Ororo suggest. She tidies up her modest snack and sets the bowls soaking in water. Hot tea is reclaimed and she wraps her long fingers around the worn ceramic mugs they're served in. "Let's take our tea with us, and carry a bit of warmth in our pockets. Kitty, please make sure you admonish people to keep off of social media with your post," she advises the younger woman. "I know you'll find a way to word it just right." She gestures at Shannon with a 'come along' motion of her hands. "Let's go see if we can find Cannonball and get his perspective on things," Ororo suggests.

Nightingale has posed:
With the small, soft red package left in Kitty's care, Shannon smiles, certain that it would reach its intended recipient in good time. She gives her a brief hug, wings and all. "Thank you." Stepping back, she waves, falling in behind miss Munroe in quick step, en route to track down her adopted older brother. "Wish it was good news, but... well, this might be better coming from him. And if there's still an opening in botany class, that'd be great!"
