Bat meets Red
Date of Scene: 20 October 2019
Location: Grant's Gym
Synopsis: Kate Kane and Jason Scott meet and have a friendly spar.
Cast of Characters: Batwoman, Red Ranger

Batwoman has posed:
Grant's Gym is located in one of Gotham's less-friendly neighborhoods. For all that, however, the place is relatively graffiti-free and has never been broken into. Never. Some of that may be due to the relatively rough clientele, mostly boxers and fighters in training (including some former-military types). A bigger reason might be that the owner himself, one Ted Grant, remains in very good shape for a retired Heavyweight Champion.

Today one the regulars is waiting her turn, taping her hands. The slender, wiry woman with bobbed red hair sits on a bench close to one of the rings watching a couple of kids sparring. Kate is wearing yoga pants and a loose tanktop over a sports bra. The outfit shows a Green Beret tattoo on her right shoulder as well as the Nautical Star tattoo between her shoulderblades.

Not many here know her as one of Gotham's socialites. But then again not many in the Upper Crust circles would know that Kate still trains either.

Red Ranger has posed:
With a free day to himself and things looking to be quiet on the Power Rangers front, Jason was getting ready to go on one of his rather long jogs/runs when he finds a card he had stuffed in his wallet months ago when he had met Dinah Drake. "Hmm, let me check out this Grant's Gym, see if they might let me get some practice in." he says making his way out to the garage with a small duffle bag, his motorcycle coming to life as he approaches. "Alpha-Five, find a teleportation window to Gotham and send me that way." He says as his bag goes into the saddle bags.

Helmeting up in a red motorcycle helmet and punching in the address on the powercycles virtual controls Jason doesn't even open the garage door as he kicks the bike into drive silently a burst of Crimson lightning flashing inside and he's coming out of an alleyway the motorcycles 'enigne' roaring into life with a realistic noise for it's style he quickly makes the half mile to the gym where he parks and grabs his bag making his way inside.

Taking off his dark red leather jacket and wearing a red tanktop and a pair of blue jeans the teen starts looking around his duffel slung over one shoulder as he looks to see who he can find that's in charge to talk to.

Batwoman has posed:
The guy working the counter goes simply by 'Reno', and he has both the look and build of a boxer himself. Wearing a gray T-shirt with the Gym logo emblazoned on the chest, he gives the muscular teen a nod by way of greeting. The gym itself has a boxing ring as a central feature, along with several areas with mats for less-formal bouts. There's also an area for weights, bags (heavy and speed-bags), and other training aids.

Reno gives Jason a nod and greets. "Just lookin' around or here to work?" he asks. Pointing towards the wall, the various membership options are printed out neatly... including a daily 'floor fee'. "If you're lookin' for a partner...." he looks around, then calls out. "Kate! Need a sparring partner?"

The wiry redhead looks up, hands taped and feet bare. Looking the teen over slowly, she offers a bit of a smile. "Looks like he can hit, anyway. Or you just want the tour?"

Red Ranger has posed:
Jason Scott grins. "Well that simplifies things!" he says in a cheerful tone. "About a year ago when I was training for a Martial Arts tournament I met a lady named Dinah" He says reaching into his back pocket to pull out his wallet and show the card with the scrawl 'tell them I sent you' written on the back. "She gave me this card said if I ever wanted to get in some practice outside of my normal comfort range that I could come down here." he explains.

"Full disclosure I hold second degree blackbelts, or their equivalents in Karate, Eishin-Ryu and am a cruiserweight in kickboxing. He explains making his way over to Kate to offer his hand. "I know the general rules for IKF boxing, but I'm not to sure how my skills will translate. If you're skilled enough ma'am to handle all of that, we could do the tour afterwards." he offers "Just point me to the locker room." he finishes with a grin.

Batwoman has posed:
Reno tilts his head to look at the card, and he grins broadly. "Yeah, if Dinah says yer good then yer good." he replies. And with that, he jerks a thumb towards the locker rooms.

For her part, Kate rises and approaches slowly. She carries herself with an easy grace, movements casual. "I'm not a stickler for rules, myself. Let's just go with open MMA, then. As for belts, unless it says 'Champion' on it somewhere they don't really carry much weight around here."

She heads for a rack of protective gear, then. "Light gloves and helmets. Get dressed, and we'll start when you're ready."

Red Ranger has posed:
Jason Scott nods. "Ahh, forgot something on my bike." he says jogging outside quickly he reaches behind him to pull out his morpher before setting the bike into a defensive mode a panel opening up on the 'gas tank' that can hold his coin his morpher going into one of the saddle bags as it closes around the coin he makes his way back inside to the locker room.

It's about ten minutes later that Jason returns wearing his own set of ring boots a loose pair of shorts with his tank top tucked in and tied off a pair of red open palmed MMA gloves and protective headgear he brought from home already on his head. "Who's gonna ref?" he asks before putting in his mouth piece the teen having come prepared.

Batwoman has posed:
Kate is already wearing protective headgear and suitably padded gloves, all in black like the yoga pants and sports bra. She's holding a mouthguard in her right hand and waiting while the kids finish up in the ring.

"We're just sparring for now, so we can call things ourselves. If things start to get serious we can always call Reno over." she offers. The kids finish up and Kate reaches up to grab onto a rope. "I'm Kate. You got a name?" Up onto the canvas, she smoothly steps between the ropes and into the ring.

Red Ranger has posed:
"Sounds fair enough. I'm Jason." the teen replies through his mouth piece making his way up and through the ropes with practiced ease. "Hey Reno, can you ring the bell when we're ready?" he calls out to the man making his way to the center of the ring to touch gloves before he backs off into his 'neutral' corner.

Batwoman has posed:
Kate Kane pops in her mouthpiece as well, rolling her head around slowly and hopping lightly on her toes. Reno calls out. "Sure thing." Kate touches gloves with Jason, and the look in those green eyes is suddenly nothing short of predatory. Back to corners they go, both hands on the ropes.

*DING!*

Kate advances from her corner, moving smoothly. Hands low, leading with the right foot, her stance is comfortable and relaxed with the energy of a coiled spring. Efficiency in motion.

Red Ranger has posed:
Jason has dealt with predators before, on a near weekly basis if he's honest with himself, his brown eyes meeting Kates unflinching but giving a nod of respect.

     *DING!*

And it's like the gates opening at a horse race as Jason springs forward almost as if he were sprinting towards Kate the teen keeping his half gloves up to protect his face he suddenly drops his foward foot covering the last few feet in a fast roll that has his hind leg coming around to try and sweep Kates leg to take it to the mat.

Batwoman has posed:
Kate has had her own experience with predators, of course, as well as with multiple fighting styles. Jason comes out low and fast, and when she moves it's like a well-choreographed dance. When he rolls and does the sweep kick her response is fluid and acrobatic.

Moving in the direction of the sweep as if it was successful, her feet swing over high with her back not quite brushing his own in the walk-over. Landing smoothly behind him, Kate sinks into a deep crouch... rising with an efficient forward kick of her own.

Red Ranger has posed:
Jason Scott doesn't spring back up to standing from the leg sweep, so when the kick is coming in, it's coming in at head height. Ducking slightly to the left he leaps forward to shoulder check the kick robbing it of some of it's momentum and extension while bringing his hands up to try and catch the ankle and take it to the mat as a grapple letting out a slight grunt as the heel of her foot impacts his shoulder with a meaty thud.

Batwoman has posed:
He catches Kate's ankle... or perhaps she -gave- it to him? But as Kate goes to the mat with the blunted impact her -other- foot swings around for a more solid kick aimed at the side of his head. Shoulders hit the mat and she grunts softly, hands reaching up and back in preparation to spring free.

Red Ranger has posed:
The kick is rather unexpected, but the teen sees it in time at least to tuck his neck in stiffening it enough that when the kick comes his body rocks with the kick versus it causing his neck to snap with whiplash. Letting go of Kates leg the teen 'falls' backwards springing up onto his feet in a kippup and launching himself backwards to reorient himself on his opponent. "You're fast.. Faster than I've had to deal with in a while." he compliments..

Batwoman has posed:
With both legs free, Kate's body undulates and she kips-up back to a standing position herself. Rolling her neck around slowly, she gives a couple little hops with both hands half-raised. "Thanks." she replies. "At least you didn't say I fight like a girl. Have to hurt you for that. You're aggressive, but we still don't know if you can throw a punch." Is she taunting him?

Red Ranger has posed:
Jason Scott smirks and shrugs. "What can I say, I was a Savate fighter in another life." he teases his pose shifting as he starts to lightly hop from foot to foot, his right fist coming up to help protect his face as his left hand drops bent but loosely hanging infront of his stomach the teen darting in to whip the padded left hand out in a series of testing flicker jabs testing Kates distances and timing.

Batwoman has posed:
Kate doesn't respond like a traditional boxer, blocking punches with her gloves. Instead her moves are more close and efficient, deflecting one with an elbow or turning another -just- enough with the back of her glove. She keeps distance very, very well, and for now she just lets him throw a few punches. To anyone who's familiar, the woman's training just screams 'military', perhaps even Special Forces. There IS the Green Beret tattoo on her shoulder, after all. But for all that he -does- land a solid jab to the ribs.

Red Ranger has posed:
Jason Scott starts to switch things up, keeping his footwork light his jabs start to shift from flicker jabs into straight jabs, hooks coming in at odd angles before he starts adding his right into the mix, one/two combos that has him putting right straights in the mix followed by right hooks and attempted upper cuts. "You know, I never understood why saying someone fights like a girl is an insult." he comments between punches. "From my experience, in a fight that doesn't have rules, a girl is going to fight dirtier than a guy. There are things two guys fighting won't do to each other out of an unspoken gentlemans agreement, that girls just don't care about." he explains.

Batwoman has posed:
Now that things have shifted to boxing a bit, Kate shifts into that particular dance as well. She blocks most, but takes his solid hits pretty well all the same. And the slender redhead shows that she can definitely throw a punch as well. She plays the game for a short while, then switches back to her own style. Which is more... brutal, for lack of a better term. Instead of one/two combos she offers a one/two-three-four-kick-five.

Red Ranger has posed:
When she starts to up the ante, Jason stops throwing nearly as many punches, ducking his head to avoid the kicks and bringing his legs up to deflect kicks or guard against them. The teens stamina is clearly olympic level though as with all the footwork, punching, and kicking he's not losing any steam.

Taking a more agressive stance though, the teen starts to try to invade Kate's space shortening his punches, aiming for her kidneys, liver and abdomen with punches and knees. It's with this more agressive stance that he starts to over extend himself, it clear he's more of a counter boxer than straight offence..

Batwoman has posed:
Kate's shift to an aggressive style has the intended effect of drawing him out, as well as seeing what the kid is made of. He can definitely punch, and he's using his footwork well. Jason closes, and Kate allows him inside with seeming reluctance.

Her change-up is sudden and likely startling; a maneuver straight out of the Speznaz playbook. Catching a jab, she twists his wrist outward as she swings her feet up in the same motion. He goes down and she goes down with him, that hand held firmly vertical with her legs locked around his neck.

Red Ranger has posed:
Jason Scott's back goes whipping to the floor with a resounding thump the teen struggling, to free himself for 10, then twenty seconds.. at close to the 30 second mark with her entire body locking down his arm and cutting off his air supply he finally taps her knee, either unwilling, or unable to do what it takes to break free of the hold.

Once she's let him go he rolls and moves to his knees before standing, giving her a respectful bow. "Wasn't expecting that." he says with a grin. "If we ever spar again, I'll have to make sure you can't pull that move on me." he says with a grin.

Batwoman has posed:
Kate may not look like much, but she holds onto the burly younger man with every ounce of strength that she has. When he taps her knee, Jason can feel those thighs relax a moment before she releases his hand as well. Letting him up, Kate casually does a backwards roll to rise to her feet.

Returning the grin, she takes out her mouthguard and offers a double fist-bump. Breathing heavily. "You're good, kid, I'll give you that." she offers. "And consider this an open invitation to spar whenever I'm around."

Red Ranger has posed:
Jason Scott nods "if you ever find yourself up in Canada near Angel Grove, there's a juice bar there, ask about me and they'll point you in my direction if you ever want to spar with me, or one of my friends." he offers holding out a hand to shake. "I'd better get cleaned up though, my Zeta back is in a couple of hours and I'll need to get through security." he comments.

Batwoman has posed:
Kate accepts the handshake as well, then she starts unwrapping the bindings. "Angle Grove. Got it." she replies. "I live in Gotham. Just ask for Kate at the RH Kane building." So... Kate KANE? Yeah, he was just boxing with a rich socialite. Like anyone would ever believe THAT.

Red Ranger has posed:
Jason Scott doesn't seem to react much to the name, or the building, the Canadian boy seeming to not know the Who's Who of Gotham. Hopping over the top rope and down to the floor below he moves to the locker room grabbing his duffel, not taking the time to change back into his earlier clothes he says his goodbyes to everyone before the sound of his motorcycle starting up again can be heard driving off into the Gotham afternoon.
