Asleep At The Television
Date of Scene: 29 October 2019
Location: Rec Room - Xavier's School
Synopsis: Late night in the Xavier's School Rec Room has a sleeping Vi and a sleepless Andrea and Samuel. Plus a visit from Magneto.
Cast of Characters: Vi, Samuel Morgan, Rage, Magneto

Vi has posed:
It's late at night. Past midnight some indeterminate amount of time. Most of the school is in bed by now. The Rec Room is dark but for the ever-changing flash of images on the TV screen lighting the room and causing the furniture to cast shadows. The sound of someone saving up to 15% on insurance can be heard, but is quiet.

No one is actively watching the television at the moment, mainly because the only person in the room, Vi, is passed out cold on the floor before it. Lying on a rug, with her head on a bean bag chair, she's wearing a pair of boxer shorts and a Henley shirt. It's not as wrinkled as it has been, so apparently she's learned of the laundry service. There's a couple of thin books in a stack beside her, but there's a Xavier's School sweatshirt that was discarded across them, covering up the titles.

The commercial ends and the Animal Planet logo comes on. "And now back to Big Cat Diary," a voice says before the screen begins showing a pride of lions walking slowly across the savannah, hunting for prey.

Samuel Morgan has posed:
It is a truly unholy time of night, so late that it is early. Lights out was hours ago, and most of the conscientious students are asleep or at least pretending hard to be so. Not Bean, who has hauled himself along the hallway, across the landing, down the stairs, along the half landing, down the stairs /again/, through yet another hallway and now into the rec room. Dressed in lounge wear that might be mistaken for pajamas, all loose pants, fuzzy socks and oversized shirt, he stumbles in, barely glances at the TV, finds a couch and collapses into it, face first. Ah... sweet, sweet relief... Before long he too is asleep, sprawled loose-limbed as if pole-axed and utterly oblivious to the world.

Rage has posed:
The sound of 'arfing' can be heard as Andrea makes her way into the Rec Room, wearing a pair of wolf slippers that make a noise now and again when she steps on them. She's in a pair of Aerie pajama pants and a matching shirt with her hair tied up behind her in a messy bun. She looks tired, eyes dark but still functional as a human being. She's not a zombie yet. In her hands is a bowl of cereal and a notebook tucked in under her arm. As she spies the pair, she offers up a smile to them. "Hey guys. Burning the late night candle also, huh?" She asks as she heads to a comfy chair and flops down into it.

Vi has posed:
Vi fails to wake as Samuel comes in, but the noise from Andrea causes the petite teen to stir and come awake quickly. There is a moment of confused looks around the room before she remembers where she is. Vi sits up slowly, rubbing a hand across her eyes as she takes in the room more fully, noting Samuel lying there, and Andrea moving over towards the chair.

"Hello," she says quietly. Vi looks around a little sheepishly. "I guess I fell asleep," she comments needlessly. They both would have seen that after all.

Vi glances to Andrea, and then over to the television. "I was watching the animals they were showing," she says softly. Vi motions with her hands towards herself, near to her shoulders, and then moves her hands to point her index fingers upwards as if something tall and thin. "They showed animals with these really long necks. REALLY long," she says, a little awe coming back into her voice as she remembers the images. "Where is this Sara-Ghetti at?" she asks, butchering the name of the African plain.

Samuel Morgan has posed:
Bean lays there like a lump, one arm on the floor, the other stretched out along his body. He looks asleep, certainly has his eyes closed, but something must have woken him up. Something hard to define. Possibly something that goes 'arf' when walked on. "'s either burning the midnight oil, or burning the candle at both ends. No neologisms allowed..." he mumbles, somewhat indistinct, and without moving much at all. Certainly without opening his eyes. "Serengeti national park, Tanzania, near Lake Victoria, East coast of Africa, largest land mass south eastern hemisphere. You saw giraffes. Same amount of neck vertebrae as humans, just bigger and longer."

Rage has posed:
"Oh, those are -- yeah, what he said, just way more technical." Andrea says as she puts the bowl of cereal to the side, then slides the notebook into her lap as she opens it to a blank page, then starts to scribble into it. "I'm going to head into bed in a few minutes, but just wanted to get some thoughts down while I had some reserve brain power. You two doing okay?"

Vi has posed:
Unfortunately the description of where the preserve is doesn't mention any geography that Vi knows. But she does get the name corrected. "Yes, Serengeti," she says with a motion of her finger towards Samuel.

"Giraffes," she repeats as well. "Yes, that was it. I couldn't remember their name," she says, her eyes still a little big with the wonder of it. "So these are real? They are so huge. I could have never imagined an animal like that."

Vi rubs a bit more sleep from her eyes as she looks over to Andrea. "Yes, I'm ok. I'm Vi," she offers in greeting, not sure if she's met Andrea before or not.

Samuel Morgan has posed:
Indistinctly, Bean waves with his left hand at both Andrea and Vi. "Bed. Too soft. Can't sleep." Well, that's not a complaint often heard. Bowing to the inevitable, he sits up, yawning and stretching out, looking for all the world like any other sleep deprived 15 year old. There's enough hair on his head now to start looking haphazard, a far cry from his usual neat self. "If you like giraffes, wait until you see elephants. They're bigger." Gah, font of useless facts tonight, it's like someone forgot to engage their network to brain to mouth filter.

Rage has posed:
"Hi Vi. Andrea. We met briefly during the uh... thingy the other night when I came with Mister Guthrie to extract you from that building." Andrea says as she gives a wiggle of her feet. Her hand with the pen gives a few more scribbles along the paper. "That was brave and stupid at the same time what you guys did. I wish I coulda got some licks in on those assholes. I hope you guys broke a nose or two at least for all of us."

Magneto has posed:
Outside of the mansion, a portal opened, and out walked Magneto. His clothing was immaculate, dress shoes, slacks, and a burgundy button-up. His hair styled perfectly, of course. His reason for visiting the mansion was important, he had heard of Charles' return, and he had something that only his most trusted friend could help with.

His shoes clapped on the hard floor of the mansion foyer, click, click, click. The mostly dim mansion showed a flicker of the TV, it was a long shot, but he did figure he would try there first before trying the office. As those clicks got closer, they remained just as determined as he was. He turns to the rec room and looked over those present. "Ah, hello." Is all he says as he comes up short one Charles.

Vi has posed:
Vi stares over at Bean for a moment. "Too soft? You're crazy. I can't hardly make myself climb off of the bed in the morning," she tells him. There are definitely some things about the school that are better than where she came from.

Actually, everything about the school is better than where she came from.

Vi looks back to Andrea, not having got the best look at her in the car that night. Vi had been quiet the whole trip back as well, just sitting huddled in the backseat of the car.

"Right, I'm sorry I did not recognize you," Vi says to Andrea. She looks over to Bean at the mention of what they did. She doesn't offer any commentary on how she got there or the events. Though it does remind her, "Did you get rid of the... the two guns?" Vi asks Bean as she motions with her hands together as if forming something into a ball.

Vi glances up as Magneto enters. Someone she doesn't recall meeting. But then there are dozens and dozens of people for her to get to know, and so she is frequently overwhelmed remembering whether she has met someone before. "Hello," she says as she looks over at the man who from his age, is surely a teacher. "I'm Vi," she offers with a little wave hello.

Samuel Morgan has posed:
"Three noses, a jaw, one ulna, a radius and I believe two eye sockets. Depends on how hard the table was the first guy broke with his face." Because of course Bean kept track. And considering that's the tally, he must have been holding back quite a bit. "No, they're still in my room. Might keep them."

Upon seeing Magneto, Bean jumps to his feet, fatigue forgotten, first coming to attention and then giving a formal bow. "Your Highness. We weren't expecting you."

Rage has posed:
"Give the guns to Sam, please." Andrea says to Bean with a sigh as she pushes herself up to her feet, her slippers making another round of 'arfs'. She glances down at her phone as the screen lights up, her smile turning just as bright before she sobers up. "But, great job, seriously. Those guys deserved it." As she turns to arf her way out of the room, she gives a pause at the sight of Magneto stepping in, her eyes widening. "Hello, your highness. Sir." She says as she gives him a bit of a bow, then sweeps herself past him. "Welcome back to America. I hope all is well. Excuse me." She gives a brief smile and a wave to the two students, then shuffles her way out.

Arf.

Magneto has posed:
Magneto looks to the students with a nod of his head. Though as someone doesn't recognize him, it gives him chance to pause. He has not seen someone not know who he was in a very long time. "I am Erik." He comments, then looking to Samuel. "Yes, you didn't. Tell me, do you know where Charles is, currently?" He asks, only trying to get to Charles without more student interaction than necessary.

Vi has posed:
Not only does Vi not know who Erik is, but she seems surprised when Samuel jumps to his feet and reacts how he does. Hearing Magneto called Highness by both Andrea and Samuel doesn't seem to clue her in any further, either.

Though Andrea gave the bow, so finally Vi seems to decide this must be some kind of Commandant that something extra is required of. She stands up, the petite older teen wearing boxer shorts and a Henley shirt. "Hello. Erik. Highness..." she says, the last coming hesitantly as she looks to Samuel, obviously not knowing what she should be doing with the honorific. "I haven't seen him. Fell asleep watching... giraffes," she says, stumbling over the animal's name but getting it right this time.

Samuel Morgan has posed:
"I'm afraid I don't know. I haven't seen the Professor." At all. Ever. But Bean isn't admitting to that just now. He motions to Vi. "May I introduce the newest student to our school? She was held against her will by an organisation created by and still currently run by fascists bent on world domination. It's not something we're going to leave unanswered."

Then, he reverses the introduction. "May I introduce you to His Highness, the King of Genosha, Magneto." He'd use a more formal name but... well, he doesn't actually know any.

Magneto has posed:
"Giraffes...yes. They are quite...tall." Magneto himself was to say the least, feeling awkward now as it came to this interaction.

"King Magnus of Genosha, Protector of the Realm, Defender of Mutants." That at least was the most formal of formal titles he had given to him from the people of Genosha. "However, Erik works just fine for now." He did however, appreciate Samuel's enthusiasm.

Vi has posed:
Vi looks from Samuel to Erik during the introduction. She looks suitably impressed, not having ever heard anyone warrant such an introduction before. "Very long necks," Vi agrees emphatically. The TV behind her is on Animal Planet, and showing images at the moment of cheetahs in Africa.

"Ok then, Erik," Vi says, no sense of propriety giving her compunctions against using the simpler name. "It is nice to meet you, sir," she adds softly. Her eyes have a tendency to stay down, only peeking up at Magneto as she talks to him, checking his expression.

"I haven't seen him since the other day when he showed me a mountain," she adds on to Samuel's answer about the location of Charles Xavier. As Samuel mentions her upbringing, it is Vi's turn to look away self-consciously.

Samuel Morgan has posed:
Samuel doesn't really know how to handle this either. He was given instruction on how to handle himself in formal situations, but not once did anyone anticipate actual royalty just dropping by for a visit. He's at sixes and sevens... "Would you... like to join us? Can I offer you a drink?"

Magneto has posed:
Magneto knows plenty about fascism, and living under that kind of regime. "I am glad to hear you are away from that kind of oppression, Vi."

Magneto looks to Samuel and shakes his head. "No thank you. I must be on my way to find Charles." He comments, before nodding to Samuel and Vi. "I trust you two will not suffer the squabblings of Miss Munroe with being up this late." He warns, knowing full well how Storm ran things...and he thought he was a disciplinarian when it came to students.

Vi has posed:
Vi stands with her hands gently joined in front of her, fingers fidgeting against one another. "Thank you. I am too," she tells Erik softly, her tone a bit somber. "I... do not know. I haven't been up late outside of my room before. Is that something we're not supposed to do?" she says, looking to Samuel to get the answer to that.

Vi reaches down, picking up the Xavier's School sweatshirt she'd left beside where she was sleeping. She picks up the stack of thin books that it was resting atop. The title of the top one is visible. The Cat in the Hat.

Samuel Morgan has posed:
"I'm sure we'll be fine on that regard, sir. I've slept here before, some nights I can't sleep in a bed." Odd, but then that's Bean. He's no stranger to living under the fascist thumb either, except he has a different perspective on the matter that he suddenly realises he shouldn't share in present company. "I'm not used to sleeping soft beds. But please, don't let me keep you from your business with the Professor, sir. Thank you kindly for looking in on us."

Magneto has posed:
Magneto gives a soft nod to the two. "Yes, normally. But I would think you two could get a pass, tonight."

"I bid you good night." He comments softly, before turning and making his way to Charles' office.

Vi has posed:
Vi nods and watches Magneto depart. She looks back to Samuel. "There's so much I have to learn," she mumbles very quietly to herself. She looks around the room, trying to find the box that Lara Croft taught her controls the screen. She finds where she left it, picking it up and looking at it. After a few minutes she just shakes her head and sets it back down, rather than randomly hitting buttons trying to figure out which one turns it off. "I should probably go back to my room then, if it might get me in trouble," she says quietly.

Samuel Morgan has posed:
"Once the lights go out, we're not supposed to be out of our rooms." Bean explains, and wonders why nobody else has bothered to do so until now. But at least he's getting it in now. The TV gets a glance, and turns itself off. Technopath... never have to look for a remote. "C'mon. Let's get to bed." he could, after all, always just sleep on the floor next to his bed. He glances at the books and smiles. "It looks like some day soon you'll find out why people think I like green eggs and ham. Good night Vi."

And with that cryptic message, he's out the door, yawning as he drags himself along that entire route he took to come down here, but in reverse. Damn you gravity...
