Lorna needs a psychic and a safety net
Date of Scene: 04 November 2019
Location: Lorna's Room (North Halls); Xavier's School
Synopsis: Lorna makes Emma uncover memories with Kitty in tow and the white queen does her part.
Cast of Characters: Polaris, Shadowcat, Emma Frost

Polaris has posed:
Lorna had spent some time tracking down Emma Frost and Kitty Pryde in her hopes of finally getting answers. Jamie had done the footwork, he'd told her what had been found in the original findings regarding her mother's plane crash. Now she had two options, go to her father and hope he told her the truth (that either he killed her mother or she did) or ask a telepath to go poking into her mind.

Luckily the school provided ample telepaths to choose from, and while Lorna didn't necessarily //trust// Emma Frost with this information it was better (in her mind at least) to ask the blonde telepath to poke around in her head rather than ask the Professor. Who would doubtlessly try to turn it into a therapy session. Or Jean, who she was convinced had too much on her plate to begin with and didn't need anything else..

But the green haired woman didn't trust Emma fully, which is why she'd asked Kitty. Someone that she did trust, and knew would be a sympathetic ear regardless of the outcome of the situation at hand. The green haired mutant led the two into her rooms after text or snagging personally, each person in turn and settled into a spot by the fire in her wing backed chair. "So, if you wanted to view the files Jamie found I have them here, but it's all like I said.. either my father killed my mother.. Or something, somehow impacted my powers. Jamie wasn't able to track down any other magnokinetics that could've done similar damage twenty years ago, and he couldn't find some technological means to duplicate magnetic blasts on that level twenty years ago either.."

Shadowcat has posed:
If one wanted to find someone suspicious enough to watch Emma closely, yet still trusting enough of her to let her into her head to this degree, Kitty was a good choice. Though the last part was a bit of a stretch, a big ask, Lorna was a person Kitty would go to that length for.

Kitty came over to meet them, giving Lorna's back a gentle pat as she moved in, staying out of Emma's way for the moment so she can look at any of the materials she needs. "Thank you for doing this, Emma," Kitty says quietly. She's been second guessing herself a lot when it comes to second chances, and those she gives them to and those she doesn't. But the jury is still out on this one.

Emma Frost has posed:
Emma stands at the fireplace, her hand lifted up to rest on the mantle and she holds a crystal of scotch in her off hand with those piercing blue eyes lingering on the flickering flames. She lifts her drink and finishes the hard liquor before setting the glass on the shelf and turns towards Kitty and Lorna, "You want me to peek into your memories with Kitty here as a sort of security blanket in order to find out what really killed your mother?" Emma clarifies before she shrugs her shoulders and lifts her chin to stretch herself a bit and looks cooly at Kitty. "This is going to feel, weird." She warns the youngest.

The mind is a terrific, terrible, terrifying place, especially to those unfamiliar with it's physics or lack thereof. "Come to me Catherine." Emma says, urging Kitty's mind forward into the mindscape and helping the girl form her psychic self into something more familiar to the phasewalker. "Lorna dear. This will not be fun or comfortable." Emma says internally as she's pulling up the memories and trying to bring forth the consciousness of infant Lorna and her locked memories.

Polaris has posed:
Lorna exhaled a breath, "I don't know what else to do beyond this or confronting my father. The latter of which I don't trust him to tell me the truth necessarily. Either he killed my mother and lied about it.. or he didn't. And that's a risk I'm not willing to take just yet." She loved her father, she truly did, but the chance that he had killed her mother was too high.

Her green eyed gaze swung from the fire, a glance spared toward Kitty as her friend patted her shoulder and her focus returned toward Emma again. "I figured that much.." She offered at the comment that it wouldn't be 'fun' or 'comfortable'.

Emma was a skilled telepath and anyone lesser would've struggled with Lorna's mind. To seek out a specific time and memory that was long since lost. And moreover, to avoid the electrostatic of the magnetic fields that buzzed alive and strong in her mind, quite literally making the youngest of Magneto's children bipolar. Telepathy left a scar on the minds of those that were altered though, and that scar was vibrant in Lorna's mind. Emma would sense that she was not the first one to enter the green haired woman's mind, and that someone (beyond that of the Professor's helpful nudges) had manipulated Lorna's mind long, long ago.

Still, the trio of women found themselves in Lorna's mindscape. The simple white room and comfortable chairs, with the distant sound of waves crashing gave way to Emma's searching to a long ago plane crash. But to actually visit those memories would take effort on Emma's part. Someone had locked them away it would seem.

Shadowcat has posed:
Kitty moves to take a seat. Somewhere if she slumps over she's not going to bang her head on something. "Lorna, not that you haven't been thinking about this a lot. But are you sure this is an answer you're ready for?" Kitty asks. She reaches over to squeeze her friend's hand. But if it is, Kitty nods and then relaxes, as much as she's able knowing what is about to happen.

Kitty pushes a few thoughts from her head, working a math problem until they are far from her thoughts before finally opening herself up to Emma. It's done a little grudgingly, but it is done.

The room seems to form around her. Kitty glances about it only briefly, her eyes going first to Emma and then after to Lorna. Kitty reaches over, offering her hand to her friend, holding it just firmly enough if allowed to give Lorna that constant sense that she has friends with her on this journey. Wherever it takes them.

Emma Frost has posed:
Emma's no slouch, she's actually annoyed at the scaring of Lorna's mind. "Ametures." She says to herself as the telepathy of Emma's is on a whole different level. She is so potent she can actually do surgery on the mind like a surgeon healing the brain. She's powerful enough to affect the physical with the mental. Emma rolls her neck and steps forwards into the mindscape, dragging the two other consciousnesses with her into one of the subconsciousnesses. "Lorna, you're going to feel ill when we're done, but I'll be making sure to ease the nasuea enough that you wont. Or you shouldn't." Emma explains.

The white queen is wearing what looks like a lab coat over a corset and boots that go up over her thighs. She looks, mismatched but the white is pristine and clean. "And I'm going to do a better job of cleaning you up as well dear."

Emma's image reaches up to pull the room through Lorna's history, conscious memories skim and fly by before deeper, forgotten and even repressed memories show until they're at the forceibly removed pieces of thought. A flash of light from Emma's hand as a mental scalpel starts to sever the restraints.

Polaris has posed:
Lorna held onto Kitty's offered hand with a wan smile, the green haired woman obviously uncomfortable with the whole situation but definitely wanting answers. "How can I move forward Kitty without knowing? With the chance that my father might have killed my mother? Jamie said that something magnetic happened to that plane. That it might have been my father or ... or me.. Not that I think that's possible.. but still.."

Emma would recognize the handy work the deeper she probed into Lorna's mind. A subordinate of Magneto's twenty years ago, one Jason Wyngarde, Mastermind. Telepath the man was not, though he could definitely twist one's memory.

But the plane crash was before, past the manipulation.. It was inelegant work. Only possible because it was done when the magnokinetic had been so young.

Lorna tried to keep her mind open, to not fight Emma's mental pulls and digging, but she couldn't help the grimace that twisted her mental representation's features. There was a mental shudder, as Emma pulled at those strings of memory. A few seconds of shuddering that was rougher than expected... and they were through.

Shadowcat has posed:
Kitty Pryde clings to Lorna's hand, offering that support. As Emma is moving the room through Lorna's memories to approach the correct spot, Kitty points out one that flashes, a few seconds of it playing out around them.

"I think that was the prank we played on Piotr when he failed to dance with me at all at the Spring Dance," Kitty says of the brief image. She breaks out in a grin. "I just wish I could have seen his face the first time he got all metal with all those items you magnetized sitting around his room," she says with a soft laugh.

They continue on, until Emma hones in on the problem area. Kitty reaches over with her other hand, holding Lorna's in both of hers. "Hang on," Kitty says softly as Emma is undoing those locks on Lorna's memories.

Emma Frost has posed:
The scalpel does it's job superbly, clearly this isn't Emma's first instance of this work. The light severs all the locks, barriers and staples that had been planted in such a rudimentary manner. "This is disgusting work." Emma scoffs as the impossible memories of the plane crash wash past her and the others in the mindroom. It's like a tsunami of emotion, and recall washing over the three of them as the dam is burst, yet Emma stands against the tide as a brilliant white statue weathering the storm, anchoring the two with her very presense.

Polaris has posed:
Lorna flashed Kitty a grateful smile as her friend pointed out a memory of happier times as they passed it, and she squeezed Kitty's hand as her focus turned inward at Emma's scalpel like work of precision. As the mental blockage was released and cleared away, and memories, emotions all of the like, came rushing back Lorna gasped, her eyes going wide in shock.

"What was that? What just happened? What was all of that, Emma?" She arched a brow, glancing between Kitty and Emma.

But the trio was where they needed to be. The three stood in the back of a plane, small and privately owned. Not over the top with decor or trimmings. It was the kind of plane that could hold half a dozen people or so, but no more. It was small, and clearly made twenty years ago. On a seat slept a small child, with brown hair, bundled in a blanket and holding a stuffed animal.

Shadowcat has posed:
As much as Kitty's eyes want to stay on Lorna, they drift over to Emma, watching what she's doing. She knows this is a representation, but also knows it doesn't necessarily have to reflect what Emma is doing. Which only makes Kitty watch even more closely.

Though it seems to have the desired effect. Kitty glances about the plane cabin. The sound of the engine fills the air, Kitty looking out a window though it probably only shows what is in Lorna's memory, not much to be seen outside but a bit of blue sky. "Is this it?" Kitty asks, though the question is probably unneeded.

Emma Frost has posed:
"That, Lorna, was the feelings and repressed nature of this memory washing over you, and us in turn." Emma states as she dismisses the scalpel with a flick of her wrist and she looks over to Kitty, "Stay near by Catherine, this is where it gets the most dangerous for us, as we could be swallowed by Lorna's memories and lost in the subconscious of our princess here if we don't take care." Emma states and takes a single step in the plane and smirks, but doesn't voice her recognition of the plane.

Polaris has posed:
Lorna's eyebrows furrowed and she glanced sharply toward Emma. "What do you mean, repressed? I don't remember this.. any of this.. I mean.. I .." She trailed off as she glanced around, and the newly restored memories, ones without the protective barrier started to settle in her mind. It was strange, to both remember and not to remember at the same time. Slowly, the green haired woman stepped toward the small child that was asleep on a double seat, bundled in a blanket.

"That.. that's me?" She blinked, her eyebrows furrowing as she stepped further. The sounds of voices could be heard through the folding door that cut off the cabin. Angry voices. Ones raised in an argument.

"How long did you think you could cover it up? Huh? How long?" Came an angry, male voice from the cockpit.

"It was a mistake Arnold! I admit it! But it was years ago!" Came a higher, softer pitched voice.

The voices had to be Lorna's mother and step-father. The man that Lorna's mother had married. Lorna struggled to push forward, wanting to hear and see more. Desperate to see her mother reflected in her mind's eye.

"And when were you going to tell me about //her//?" The male voice responded. "When were you going to tell me that our daughter wasn't 'our' daughter?!"

Shadowcat has posed:
Kitty watches Lorna, but lets her go to the child, to herself, alone. She glances over to Emma, checking the woman for any signs of worry on how things are playing out as the argument starts up. Kitty doesn't know if Emma knows already what this memory is, or if she's seeing it for the first time now as well.

Kitty moves out of the aisle, leaving room for Lorna to be able to get to the door. Kitty listens as well, though her eyes go back to her friend. Watching for how she's handling this. Ready to support her in whatever way she can.

Emma Frost has posed:
"That's what repressed means princess." Emma states with a look over her shoulder towards Lorna who's nearing where her younger self would have been as the moment begins to move faster and faster, like a video being sped up to get to the good part. Emma calmly looks to Kitty and sighs softly. "Here comes the moment of truth..." Emma says as the green haired infant begins to cry loudly and the plane begins to shake when Lorna's mother screams violently and cry while running to her daughter to protect the girl.

The 'father' then reaches out from the cockpit with his hand shifting and appearing to turn green and then brown, like the trunk of a tree. Time slows now in the memory and Emma puts her hands on Lorna and Kitty, pulling the two to watch closer. "He was a mutant too." Emma whispers as the hand-branch grows longer and into a point as he was trying to attack Lorna's mother and the infant.

Lorna's mother is reaching for her daughter, and Babe-Lorna is reaching for her mother and as she watches her mother get hurt the mutation flares and the jet begins to rip like a piece of paper around the two trios. "She was trying to save her mother..." Emma whsipers gently.

Polaris has posed:
Lorna was leaning into the cockpit, desperate to listen, to hear what her mother had to say. To grab hold of the memory of what her mother looked like beyond a simple photograph. She leaned between the two seats, watching with rapt gaze the woman that had birthed her as Suzanna screamed a "No! That's not it! No!"

And Arnold's voice rose in pitch. "I had DNA tests done, Suzanna. After the weird stuff that's happened around her lately.. I got the results hours before we got on the plane." He snarled, and Suzanna's face twisted in Lorna's recollection and Lorna missed Emma's breathed words about the moment of truth. As her mother screamed about his plan being to bring them up there. To the plane. To murder them both.

The green haired princess backed away from the cockpit as the toddler version of her woke up at the scream and Emma pulled both her a Kitty back and close. A question on her lips before her younger self's powers burst forth and the whole of the plane broke apart all around them in a tangled mess of metal and screams.

The world went black, and the trio would find themselves standing on the ground in the middle of the wreckage of the plane. Burning bits all around them.

Shadowcat has posed:
Kitty Pryde moves over closer to Emma at the urging. If she wasn't going to trust Emma this far, now would probably have been a poor time to make that decision. Kitty's throat tightens as she watches the man try to kill Lorna's mother.

She reaches over, wrapping an arm about Lorna's shoulders. As they appear in the wreckage, Kitty stays there, offering her friend what support she can. "Her thoughts were of you, Lorna. And you tried to help her. It wasn't your fault, you were a babe," she says quietly, looking over to see Lorna is handling it.

Emma Frost has posed:
"Lorna." Emma repeats softly, as if she's sympathetic towards the princess's sudden knowledge that she killed her adoptive father while trying to protect herself and her mother. "You did your best." Emma explains and as they're on the ground, Emma taps Lorna's shoulder. "I think we should return." Emma is nearly, motherly, in her tone and support for the princess, and for Kitty. They can be friends, Emma has to be the one to guide and lead them all in ways that only she can. "We need to go home."

Polaris has posed:
Lorna squeezed her eyes shut, pressing her hands against her head as she tried to process the events that had happened. Jamie was wrong. On both options. She hadn't tried to kill anyone. Nor had her father... but he had been right that she'd caused the plane's failure. Her powers //had// awakened... but how? How was it possible that her powers just went dormant after they'd manifested...? Her step-father, her mother's husband... before he'd tried to ..to.. He'd said weird things had been happening around her.. Had she been //born// with her powers?!

Green eyes blinked at Kitty and Emma in return as Emma tried to softly pull her back to them both, and at Kitty's gentle embrace.

"What happened to my powers? How did they get shut down? I don't get it. Repression doesn't happen with powers. It's not.. that's not how any of this works. There's more, isn't there Emma?" She tried to pull away from Kitty, trying to push through the burning wreckage of the plane to find where she'd landed. Where little toddler Lorna had crashed to the ground.

Surrounded by a neat pile of metal debris, Lorna found herself, not awake, but not hurt either.

Shadowcat has posed:
Kitty gives Lorna another squeeze and then lets her go. She looks to Emma and then follows Lorna through the wreckage, not wanting to let her friend out of her sight, or be along as she deals with this.

Kitty walks up behind her. "I don't know. Every mutation can be different," Kitty says. "It's not usual, that's true," she offers quietly, as they move through the memory to where little Lorna can be found.

Emma Frost has posed:
"Acutally, it does happen. Not often, but some mutants have trouble using their powers a second time." Emma explains as she steps up behind Lorna who's watching her infant self get opened from the metal cocoon.

That's when Emma taps both shoulders, one of Kitty and one of Lorna and then points upwards. "You are different though." Emma says as the vision of Erik and Jason descend from the sky towards lil'Lorna's resting spot. "It seemed like Erik tried to save you from yourself." The telepath says with a hint of sorrow and a touch of true saddness.

Polaris has posed:
Lorna blinked repeatedly, her powers didn't work retroactively in her mind's eye. She couldn't sense herself, or her powers. So her current state was impossible to follow. Even as Kitty caught up to her, trying to soothe the confusion that Lorna dragged around her like a blanket, the green haired woman glanced back toward Emma. Her eyebrows knit together, her lips parting in askance.. Only to tilt her head up as Emma tapped her shoulder and pointed upward.

As Lorna caught sight of her father's descent, her eyes went round and she staggered backward. "He.. he was here?" She gaped, shock filtering through her mind as she watched her father's arrival.

"It's too late.." Came Jason's voice.

"A pity. Suzanna had so much potential beyond being the mother of my children. Why she could have--ah, well. No sense mourning what could have been." The Master of Magnetism approached the wreckage then, stepping through it in flickering shadows cast by the dying fire of the plane. "But you're wrong that there's nothing to be done." He passed the trio, moving to the fallen toddler and bending down.

"Hello child, I was drawn here by the magnetic pulse you unleashed. Your powers manifested far earlier than they should have. Unusual. But not unprecedented..." He grew silent for a moment, considering the toddler that was barely aware. "But you're not quite ready for those abilities or the life that I have to offer you. You require a 'normal' life.." Magneto stepped back a bit, giving space to Jason Wyngarde to approach and kneel over her, putting a hand upon her forehead.

"Jason here will rewrite your memories, via illusions.."

The memory started to fade into the background slowly then, darkened at the edges.

"You won't remember what happened here. You won't remember the truth about this day.. and with any luck.."

The fires faded away completely.

"You never will."
