Cast of Characters: Mellie Mortain, Mercy Thompson, Ivory, Doctor Strange, Scarlet Witch

Mellie Mortain has posed:
There is a mansion in Gotham city near the outskirts of town. It's on a hill and you can see the city lights from there. THe mansion is run down and anyone who has bought it has left in a hurry before renovations could be completed. Tonight it's raining and storming. There is, oddly enough, a faint light in the attic. It's more like a candle glow than anything but it is clearly visible since everything else is pitch black dark. The clouds overhead are moving in strange directions. Fortunately tornadoes are rare this far north. There have been reports of strange noises coming from the house and recently a ghost hunting crew had one of their members crash through the stairwell and into the basement, and becoming impaled on a broken metal rod. He was confirmed dead on arrival.

Mercy Thompson has posed:
Mercy's not worried about tornadoes. Or the fact her car she was testing rolled to a halt outside the mansion. And the fact her phone's dead with no reception or battery. She's decided to go into the house. Because sure, yeah, mercy.....that's a great idea. Go into a haunted house type placce. mercy looks over the house and takes a deep breath, then steps out of her car, and toward the house. She's pretty sure something freaky is going on. Then again with her hiritage, Mercy's able to deal with ghosts. Even if it's a friendly chat and asking 'em to please not ruin her deay

Ivory has posed:
Rain and storm are not the best weather for a tour to gotham city, but after all, they had went there for some discussion with a small boutique that might stock their goods if they could manage a consens. On the way back, they stop at the gate to that house which wsome prankster had marked with "Haunted House" some days ago for halloween, and nobody has torn it off yet. With a shrug, they turn up the path to the building. Better than getting totally drenched...

Mellie Mortain has posed:
The light in the round attic window suddenly flickers and disappears. Otherwise there is no activity coming from the house right now although for a brief nanosecond one might have seen the shadowy figure in that same attic window when the lightning flashed rather brightly. But just as quickly the figure vanishes.

Mercy Thompson has posed:
Mercy steps into the house and shakes her hair out. It's wet, and frizzy and dripping down her back. Mercy though has stepped inside the house and is peering around the mansion. It's definitely interesting. But. But.she steps in more if anyone wants to join her. Since, well, getting concusssed by doors isn't good. Instead she's peering around more as she steps toward the foyer. Mercy's not got any of her guns with her. Instead she's got her hands, and feet, and can step into being a coyote.

Ivory has posed:
Ivory seeing the light turn off, Ivory chuckles and starts to humm a little tune. In the velvet darkness... Of the blackest night... Burning bright... There's guiding Star... No matter what or who... who you are...
As they arrive at the door, they tilt the head, slowly opening the door and then looking a little disappointed as there is neither a Riff Raff standing in the door, nor a group of people in tuxedos, nor a casket with a clock in it. Just Mercy. "I don't think you're Patricia Quinn or Little Nell, and most definitly not Tim Curry or Richard O'Brian... What a shame."

Mellie Mortain has posed:
The house feels really cold. It's a bit chilly outside but inside the house it is freezing cold and there's a negative energy in the air. Electronics may start to misbehave. The mansion is indeed a mess and because it's huge, the mess is huge. There are signs that objects have been thrown across rooms, walls have holes, the floor has some holes, and the staircase has caved in. It is altogether a VERY unwelcoming place, not to mention the signs of drug addicts, and homeless people trying to take refuge.

Mercy Thompson has posed:
Mercy's phone is already dead, and her hair's on edge. Thanks to being Coyote's daughter, Mercy's got the knack of seeing ghosts. Yet she's taking a step forward. So much for getting up to the attic. Great. Well then, Mercy glances to Ivory, "You thinking what I'm thinking?" she asks quietly then decides 'screw it. I am exploring'. Besides, she's pretty much a demigod. Who can see and talk to ghosts. What could possibly go wrong? Mercy though does look around before she steps forward again. She's careful, at least.

Ivory has posed:
"That it's a shame that we missed the party?" Ivory responds at Mercy, eying her up carefully. "And that someone has a huge fridge open in this buildng." They lack super senses to see ghosts, or magic... but on the flipside, they pretty much reek of magic. Lots of magic.

Mellie Mortain has posed:
The floor is very old and it makes a sound every time you walk. There's no getting around the fact that there are rats and other critters running around. The noises are constant but subtle. The wind causes the house to make weird sounds too which can play with the mind for some. Then a cat screams and runs out of the basement towards the exit. Something clear scared the living daylights out of it.

Mercy Thompson has posed:
Mercy watches the cat as it leaves. "Okay, odd" Mercy muses and pricks her ears up, taking note of the house's strange quirks. Looking over to Ivory again, Mercy is trying to be as quiet as possible, looking around once more before she takes another step. "Oky..we need to figure out what's going on with this hous" Mercy adds. "And no, I'm just Mercy"

Ivory has posed:
Ivory eyes the cat as it dashes past, the face flinching. "You mean like in a bad horror movie? I really should have asked Mr. Thunder for his phone number... or Miss Danvers... Because this looks like a bad case of better have cavalry lined up... uhm... but sure... Let's investigate?"

Mellie Mortain has posed:
There are footsteps coming from the attic at this point. Nothing violent or dangerous sounding but no one SHOULD be in the house.. in theory? The wind causes the door to sway a bit and then shut behind you. Then the voice of a young woman can be heard briefly, "But there's no jam! I wanted jam!" Then there's... silence. The voice came from the kitchen. The footsteps in the attic have stopped for now.

Mercy Thompson has posed:
Mercy peeks around the corner, then loooks to Ivory. "Yeah. Cavalry" she whispers. "Hello?" she calls. "Anyone....anyone home?"

Corny. Sure. But Mercy's a little on edge now. Anything that can get Coyote's daughter on edge isn't good....at all.

Ivory has posed:
Ivory groans a little as Mercy starts to call out, following on the footsteps of her. "Ivory by the way... eh, just look where you're stepping..."

Mellie Mortain has posed:
The footsteps resume a bit later but there is no response from the kitchen. The attic door upstairs thumps a bit as if someone propped something against it. Rats begin to scurry back into the walls, squeaking in fear.

Mercy Thompson has posed:
Mercy's starting to get spooked too. She's not a fan of doors thudding....when she can't get to the attic. She looks to Ivory then to where the footsteps came from. She looks a little on edge. Maybe this wasn't such a good idea after all....but she's come this far really.

Ivory has posed:
Ivory shakes the head a little as she sees the look up and then to her, slowly following Mercy. "Not a smart idea..."

Mellie Mortain has posed:
The female voice calls out again after the thumping sound, "Tristan stop the noise! Mother said stay out of father's billard room!" This time the voice is coming from what WAS the reading room a long time ago.

Mercy Thompson has posed:
Mercy freezes hearing the voices. "Okay" she whispers. "Ghosts aren't listening to us. Okay, okay..shhi...." Mercy starts and stays put. Nope, she's not wanting to get ghosts mad at her. Or Ivory, either. Though Mercy's quiet, ears pricked. "You heard that....I don't want to know what's going on here, I just want to figure it out but this is freaking even me out....and I'm used to seeing and dealing with ghosts" Mercy whispers then lifts her head. "Show yourself, please ghosts. I don't mean any harm, I just want to know what's going on here" she calls out.

Ivory has posed:
Ivory shivers as she shakes the head slowly. "I... I heard it... but I think I decide to better not have heard it... for sanity, yes?" They mutter, pointing to the exit. "I... I think we should leave while we have the chance..."

The mansion is run down and anyone who has bought it has left in a hurry before renovations could be completed. Tonight it's raining and storming. There were two other visitors here tonight but they have likely left before you arrive.

Doctor Strange has posed:
Strange stands at the doorway with his cloak donned and the blue gi wrapped snuggly and tightly around his chest and arms with yellow wraps around his wrists and gloves over those to keep him warm in the chill of november.

The wizard looks to his left and gives the Avenger a subtle nod, a wash of pride flowing over the sorcerer as he finally gets a moment to work with his former apprentice but now she's taken her own path and the two are working together to solve this less that subtle mystery in Gotham.

Stephen reaches his glove out towards the door knob and takes a breath as he opens the door and prepares a simple light spell at the tip of his index finger and uses it as a torch to light the interior of the place.

Scarlet Witch has posed:
Behind Doctor Strange, a woman attired in red jacket and black tights walks slowly up the stairs onto the porch. She seems to be listening. Or maybe not listening. Sensing. Feeling for things that might be unseen and unheard, yet might be there for one with a third eye.

"Stephen, you know, if you wished to get together you didn't have to find me a haunted house. Steak and a potato would have worked as well," she kids, though the Transian woman's eyes are focused on the building rather than on the man she is jesting with.

"Well, you can't seem to get away from the cold, can you," she tells Stephen as she steps slowly forward to stand beside Doctor Strange in the entry way. She lets him handle the lighting for the moment, Wanda just gazing about the room. "Well, I guess that answers the question if it was just someone's imagination and some ill-timed coincidences," she says of the cold, wrapping her arms about herself for a moment.

Doctor Strange has posed:
"At least this cold is familiar." Stephen says, with a look of his grey eyes towards Wanda, not having found time to really make his personal achievements known to the world. Just yet.

Stephen steps into the foyer and keeps his finger raised so the white light can shine out and illuminate colors and shadows that only those that are mystically attuned can experience. "Any ideas my student?" Stephen asks as he looks back to Wanda's eyes and still curious what she might do now that she's gotten much experience as a solo mystic.

Mellie Mortain has posed:
Footsteps can be heard in the attic now. It's been happening all night in fact. Eerily the usual night critters seem to all be hiding. There are not rats, mice, bugs, or bats moving about. Then suddenly a young woman's voice can be heard coming from the basement, "Tristan that's my candy!" The voice is definitely not that of a child. The sound of glass falling follows, also coming from the basement, and then, "Father's going to get the switch! Tristan! Tristan! You broke mother's china!!" Then there's only silence.. nothing.

Scarlet Witch has posed:
Wanda's eyes, and other, more mystical senses, take in the interior of the building as she says, "So long as there isn't a Frost Giant hiding in the kitchen," Wanda replies back before slowly stepping inside.

Her fingers move in a slow, precise way, a red aura gathering about them. It flows away from her slowly like a mist, flowing across the room. "Cold could be any number of sources, though many would have a locus from which it is spreading-" Wanda is saying when the sounds come.

Her head tilts, listening to the voices and the sound of footsteps. "Well. Haven't had a proper séance in some time," Wanda says. "Shall we explore a bit and see if we can't divine something of the nature of the spirit, if that is what it is?" she asks, walking further in, being careful of her footing.

Doctor Strange has posed:
"I'm ready when you are." Stephen says with an almost playful smirk. A seance hasn't been on the menu in quite some time for the wizards it seems and yet it's always an interesting night at least. Stephen the starts to move deeper into the mansion, the cloak looking larger than life in this aura of confidence and familiarity, despite the bags under the wizard's eyes. "I'll take upset girl over a frost giant any day this week. This week." Stephen repeats as he begins to lead the way down into the basement without the slightly hint of concern.

Mellie Mortain has posed:
Not long after the cold feeling starts to grow and one single stomp can be heard at the top of the staircase. The young woman's voice can then be heard again, only this time a scream, the kind of scream when someone feeling abject terror. The sound of several objects banging and clanging around in the basement follows as well as the sound of footsteps frantically charging up the basement stairs. For a brief second a solid white apparition flickers into view near the kitchen and then flickers out of sight. If you are quick enough you might have seen her face.. she was horrified of something.

Scarlet Witch has posed:
Wanda's hands continue to glow with her chaos magic, mindful of the fate of the camera crew as they tried to traverse the house. "So above, and down below," she manages to say before the new set of sounds give them far more information to work with.

"Well, that kind of emotion could certainly lead to a spirit remaining behind," she comments after having indeed spotted the apparition's face. "It seems like the basement is playing a frequent role. Shall we start there and if needed, work our way up?" the Scarlet Witch asks in a calm voice. She looks about for the basement stairs, honing in on them after the sounds of the footsteps from before are able to guide the way.

Doctor Strange has posed:
"Seams as reasonable a place to start as any." Stephen notes and opens the door for Wanda to go down into the basement first, as he is a gentleman and the wizard is kind enough to at least send the ball of glowing light off his finger tip to rest above the bottom of the stairs, making sure to illuminate everything for Wanda's descent. "This seems like an awfully cut and dry haunting to me, or am I getting ahead of myself?" Stephen asks idly as he follows the crimson avenger.

Mellie Mortain has posed:
The night continues on. The spirit of a young woman briefly appeared and then vanished, she seemed to percieve a danger after fleeing the basement. Upstairs there are other noises, footsteps mostly, but a stomp at the base of the stairs as well. The mansion is absolutely cold, colder than outside. Shall you investigate the basement? Or upstairs? The attic door even further up above the second floor is red and ornate. It may stick out.

Scarlet Witch has posed:
Wanda pauses halfway down the stairs to look back at Stephen. "Did you just say this was too easy?" she asks him, voice half-joking and half-incredulous. "You know there's the equivalent of a swear jar at Avenger's Mansion for that," she half-jokingly scolds.

Though she does look about with a bit more wariness after the comment. Is she superstitious? Well, she is a witch after all. Wanda continues on down, moving slowly as if expecting the stairs to give way beneath her at any moment. "So have you finished repairing any damage to the Sanctum?" she asks, making typical ghost-hunting small talk.

Wanda steps down onto the floor of the basement to look around, eyeing the area for anything unusual, or anything that might seem connected to the haunting, or what they've seen and said heard from the spirit so far.

Doctor Strange has posed:
"Of course I said this was too easy." Stephen says with a smirk towards Wanda as they decend the steps towards the basement and he lowers the hand he had cast the light spell on and then looks at Wanda with a look of his eyebrow going up. "I believe it, but you also know I don't deal in with superstitions." The wizard says with a shrug of his shoulders.

Stephen steps on the landing and holds his hand up as if he had a cup in it. "To me ye creatures of the night..."

Mellie Mortain has posed:
As you descend the air grows colder still. In bloody capital letters on the far wall of the basement facing the stairs it is written, "SHE IS MINE. LEAVE." A large pile of dead rats, spiders, and insects is found at the base of said wall.

Scarlet Witch has posed:
Wanda watches as the light drifts across the basement, illuminating motes of dust that have been kicked up by even their cautious steps. Various bits of the normal sort of basement detritus lie about, in the same sort of state of disrepair as the rest of the house.

Wanda's eyes lift to the wall as the light drifts across, the red liquid of the lettering reflecting the ball of magical lighting. "And so this is what results," Wanda says with a nice Vanna White flourish towards the wall. She eyes the dead creatures as she moves closer. "So not just a spirit that won't move on. One that is being held here," she comments. "Seems we're meant to be discouraged by this," she says, turning away from the message to continue looking for things tied to the apparitions that might shed more light on the situation.

Doctor Strange has posed:
"You can have her, but I think we're gonna stay. Shall we Wanda?" STephen asks with a delicious smile on his lips as he turns to brazenly take a seat in the middle of the basement, turning his legs end over end to be seated cross legged on the ground. He's openly inviting this force to attack him and then yet Stephen gets an idea, "Why not trade places. Her and I. Surely I must be a sweater prize than some girl. no?"

Mellie Mortain has posed:
Strange's challenge elicits a response alright. The mansion shakes briefly, a gutteral male voice calling out loudly, " MY.. DOMAIN.. MY.. PREY.. MAKE.. A DEAL.." It doesn't even try to attack. Not long after that the white apparition appears, with a lot of static, but she's clearly trying, "Help.. he wants... <intelligible> ...killed me... <intelligible> ... MOMMY!!" She screams and it almost seems that she is ripped away from you and vanishes.

Scarlet Witch has posed:
Wanda continues her slow circuit of the room as Strange goes with a more direct tack towards the matter. She stops to observe the appearing spectral form of the girl. Her lips press into a line, anger wanting to form but Wanda Maximoff doesn't let the negative emotions form, doesn't make them available for the entity responsible.

"I'll prepare a circle to be able to keep her with us," Wanda suggests to Doctor Strange. She moves over and clears a space about the Sorcerer Supreme, and then begins slowly inscribing a circle with chalk. Four smaller circles are added at each point of the compass, these done with salt that she takes from a small container from her cloak. Then a candle is added to each. Wanda sets the candles aflame and then steps back, on the outside of the circle, letting Doctor Strange handle it from there.

Doctor Strange has posed:
"I believe that is a good idea dear Wanda." Stephen says before he closes his eyes once again and places his hands upon his knees and then smirks. "I've come to bargain... nameless creature." The wizard says and hopes that it will be enough to draw the thing forward, "At least give me your name, so this may be a conversation of equal footing. For I am the Doctor Strange." The title is left off on purpose, one that Wanda might catch onto quickly.

Mellie Mortain has posed:
The white apparition can sense that she is safe within the circle and appears within it. Static at first.. but then clearly. She presses her hands against the barrier, not allowing herself to penetrate it, "Help.. daddy.. mommy.. help me.." She breaks down in tears..

Meanwhile the gutteral male voice responds, "NAMELESS.. UNTIL.. YORGURUL..." That is likely its' first name, "GIVE ME.. HER.. THEN.. TERMS.."

Scarlet Witch has posed:
Wanda stays outside of the circle. She doesn't want to let her mystical senses be affected by the protection magic. Wanda moves to sit against a wall, her eyelids falling half-closed as she opens herself up to sense everything there is to be felt about the room. About the house. Trying to find any advantage on the spirit that has taken to haunting the house.

The candles flicker fitfully, the light they shed like a beacon to the girl's spirit, while it will prove a cautionary sensation for Yorgurul, the salt keeping him from the flames that will seem to feel hotter the nearer the spirit might draw to them.

Doctor Strange has posed:
"Lets be forward shall we." Stephen says with a lift of his chin towards the feeling of the demon with his eyes closed. "I would rather not stay in such a place with such a roommate as yourself. Bleeding walls are not easy to maintain. So I will offer you a chance to remain in this house further without the girl, or I will be forced to remove you and send you back to the, what level are you even from, two? Maybe..." Stephen sounds beyond sure of himself this night.

Mellie Mortain has posed:
The demon roars, "GIRL.. MINE.. NO.. DEBATE.."

Mellie cowers in fear, "Tristan.. NO!! Grandfather is angry.. don't tell him I broke mother's vase.." She covers her "eyes" and huddles in the center of the circle.

Scarlet Witch has posed:
Wanda Maximoff's sense expand, searching for any sense of the Tristan that the girl's spirit is speaking of. When finally she doesn't find him, she opens her eyes and rises slowly from where she'd sat. Dusting herself off she moves over to the wall opposite the bloody writing.

Wanda accesses her small cache of spell supplies she'd brought with her, having chosen a few things likely to be of use in a haunting such as this. A vial of special ink is brought forth, one infused with plants growing atop of the grave of Saint John Baptiste de la Salle, a patron saint of abuse victims.

Wanda brushes clear a section of the wall, removing any dust, and then dips a small brush into the potent ink. She begins inscribing a small hand-sized pentacle upon the center of the wall. A prayer is said over the finished holy symbol, and a section of the haunted house nearest will not feel quite unpleasant for a spirit that has had a hand in such abuses. Wanda turns slowly to regard the room, letting the feeling the symbol will cause be its own threat. There's enough ink for a lot more of those be drawn throughout the house.

Doctor Strange has posed:
"Then I will have to remove you from this plane Yorgurul." Stephen says as he stands up and dusts the mess of the back of his pants and the cloak seems to remain constantly clean. "Wanda, we may begin." Stephen says as he pops his neck by twisting his chin.

THe wizard twist his wrists and aims his palms down to the ground with a matrix being formed beneath him and the whole of the mansion begins to shake. "I summon the Yorgurul, bring yourself to me or face the ridicul that is your cowardice." Stephen demands.

Mellie Mortain has posed:
The demon roars again, having no choice but to appear, and it certainly spares no theatrical. The black, formless shape that appears before Strange would no doubt terrify most people, but the entity is not against its' usual adversary. The energy around the entity is sucked into what appears to be a hollow, imploded area of space. Anyone could see the air vaccumed into the oval shaped void, but those with other senses could see that by its' very nature, it draws in all life around it should they not be shielded. It is vampiric in nature and it is always hungry. A thick tendril lashes out at Strange in a desperate attempt to impale him. It exerts a mere three tons of force.

Mellie merely watches fully expecting her saviors to be vanquished, ignorant of their power.

Scarlet Witch has posed:
As Doctor Strange is forcing Yorgurul's appearance and the demon lashes out towards him, scintillating arcs of red appear on every side of the demonic being. The Scarlet Witch's arms are wreathed in red light that flows from her to each of the curved shields like segments of a sphere.

Each curved, segmented wall gleams like a ruby, and their collective brilliance is enough to light the room in a red light. Those segments start drawing towards each other, until it is quickly obvious they are slowly being turned into a cage. Drawing closer to each other around Yorgurul. The nearer they are to each other, red energy leaps across the gaps between them, as if the magical barriers are eager to snap into place with one another.

Doctor Strange has posed:
Stephen reacts before the thought even crosses his mind and a whole is opened up just in front of him and the tendril finds it's now reaching through a portal, a gateway to a hellish dimension, the realm of Satannish and Stephen is willing to allow these foes to meet on one term or another. Stephen closes the portal nearly as quickly as he activated it and he slowly opens his eyes. "Basic creature, lashing out instead of learning." Stephen whispers while shaking his head and looking to the cage. "Excellent Wanda."

Mellie Mortain has posed:
The demon throws all of its' power into that attack. It would have completely impaled Strange and passed through him had it succeeded. It does not realize that it is being sucked into another dimension until it is too late. A defiant roar its' last act here.

Mellie looks up only to find that her tormentor for over a century gone. She "stands" up again and looks at the two, "He will return.. he always does.. I cannot leave.."

Scarlet Witch has posed:
Wanda's magic barrier coalesces around the demon, the ruby segments of magic shielding joining together and slamming into place. As Doctor Strange opens the portal to capture the attacking tentacle, the scarlet prison surrounding the demon pulses and the entire thing begins to move. Drifting forward, taking Yorgurul with it through Doctor Strange's portal before he snaps it closed.

As the threat is removed, the Scarlet Witch relaxes, though her hands stay wreathed in her chaos magic as she moves forward toward Mellie's spirit. "How does he keep you here?" she asks Mellie. "Is it with his own power, or does he have one of your fetters to keep you bound here?" she asks.

Doctor Strange has posed:
"He seems to be a fear demon." Stephen says with a frown as he catches his breath and steps up beside Wanda and extends his hand towards the ghost of a girl. "I will take her to the sanctum where she will be safe from any further demons." The wizard offers with a kind smile, even for the sorcerer. "Would you like a new home dear?"

Mellie Mortain has posed:
Mellie frowns, "I.. cannot leave here. Mother said I cannot leave the yard." She points up and whispers, "Tristan left the yard.. he was struck in the road.." She frowns again, "But mother doesn't know that I still see him. He says he'll tell if I leave the yard. I lost my necklace.. the one that mother gave me. She says I cannot leave the yard to play on the swings until I find my necklace and clean up the attic."
