Midnight Snacking
Date of Scene: 08 November 2019
Location: Kitchen - Xavier's School
Synopsis: abd that was that
Cast of Characters: Dazzler, Colossus, Samuel Morgan, Beast, Nightingale, Triage, Vi, Cannonball

Dazzler has posed:
Cooking is not exactly something that she has much desire to be doing this late at night, but snacking is. Which might explain why Dazzler is standing in front of the kitchen island making herself a rather large ice cream sundae. Three flavors, whip cream, nuts, chocolate...even a cherry or two are getting piled into a bowl.

Colossus has posed:
Colossus arrives wearing sweatpants, lemon-yellow Crocs and a tank top that says "FERGUSON'S ART SUPPLIES". He takes up quite a bit of space, even in his human form, making his way towards the refrigerator, "Pardon," he says to Dazzler, opening up the fridge and reaching in to get out some bacon and eggs. "I find breakfast foods to be foods of comfort, da?"

Samuel Morgan has posed:
Late at night it might be, but Sam Morgan, Bean to his friends, is still dressed as if he's only just come back in from the cold. And considering the front door had opened not too long ago, that's probably exactly the case. The chill of the outside is still clinging to his jacket and beads of fog cling to his hoodie. As he enters, he freezes for a moment, seeing others already here (of which one a teacher), and the staff member that followed him in walks discreetly out again. "Evening guys... left some for me?"

Beast has posed:
Henry McCoy was working in the lab into the evening, so he still has a white coat on as he comes to get himself some food. Looking in, he sees others are already raiding stuff. "Good evening!"

Dazzler has posed:
"Bacon and eggs?" Because what other breakfast foods could it be? Alison moves to make room for Colossus, pointing the scoop in her hand towards her sundae, "I find this to be comforting." She then gives the newly arriving pair a smile and a wave, "Take your pick. Breakfast or dessert."

Colossus has posed:
Colossus cracks a few eggs, scrambling them rapidly with a fork and stirring them around in a buttered pan, laying strips of bacon in another and letting the sizzling smell of it rise up. He throws in cheese, salt and pepper with the eggs, cheerfully making extra as more people arrives. He tends to eat about six eggs and half a rasher of bacon on his own, so no use being skimpy.

"Everyone is welcome to have some," he adds simply.

Samuel Morgan has posed:
First and foremost, Bean takes off his jacket and hangs it up next to the door. Good manners cost nothing, and the kitchen is a space that is near enough to sacred to most people. Then he heads for the kitchen island and grabs himself a seat, nodding a grateful smile to Colossus. "Thank you, Mister Rasputin, I'm starving." But teenagers often are, so there is likely no more to his desire for food than hunger brought on by a fast metabolism. Dazzler and Hank both get a respectful nod, but it seems that for now the sizzling pan and the smell of bacon have his almost undivided attention.

Dazzler has posed:
There is a brief look towards the bacon, almost like she is reconsidering what her choice was, even if that bacon wasn't sizzling in the pan when she made the choice. Then Alison starts to clean up her own mess before sliding her bowl around towards one of the stools so that she can sit down as well, "What has you all up so late?"

Colossus has posed:
Colossus smiles as he gets down plates, enough for the others as well, beginning to serve up food casually. He gets the toaster out, too, and the bread, drawing jam and butter from the fridge as he moves around. "I am something of a night owl," he admits. "I try to claim it is my artistic temperament. But I think it is that my body never set again from Russian time. It put me 'out of whack', as Logan would say."

Samuel Morgan has posed:
"I... had an appointment, in the city." And for once, it was actually an official appointment too. Bean had, in fact, been excused from classes from the afternoon onwards. Exactly why hadn't been entirely explicit, except that it had been authorized for the good of his 'mental welfare'. "Only just got back." The plate is eyed with naked gratitude, but despite having been served and having cutlery, the boy waits. Seemingly until everyone else has theirs, before even starting to eat. "Working on anything in particular these days?"

Dazzler has posed:
The claim of artistic temperament, even if he then quickly points out that it is just general night owlness gets a laugh from her. Amusement quick, and then she turns her attention towards her ice cream, working at eating it before it can melt too much. There is a quick look at Bean, but she doesn't pry into the nature of his appointment, instead she looks towards Colossus at the question, "Yes...what have you been working on?"

Colossus has posed:
Colossus doesn't mind the inquiry, "A painting at the moment, a landscape. Where I grew up, it was mostly fields, flat land, but, in the distance, there was a mountain. I used to dream of going there, having adventures, meeting dwarves and elves and such, as in the books I read as a child. When I finally got there, it was just a mountain. I am drawing, instead, the mountain of my dreams, of my imagination. I will see where it takes me," he says.

"I believe there is hot sauce for anyone who wants it. Or ketchup for your eggs. My sister used to like ketchup with her eggs," he smiles.

Samuel Morgan has posed:
"Yearning for the horizon..." Bean smiles and then starts to eat. He still has a mental picture of a house in Virginia, a place that he might never again find, and probably wouldn't be welcome if he did, but it's a vivid mental image. An image of... peace. "It's not just a mountain if you're taking time to paint it, as you see it. That makes it inspiration, doesn't it? In your mind there were dwarves, there were stories, there were all sorts of adventures that you wouldn't have gone onto in your own mind if that mountain hadn't been there. That's a good mountain."

Dazzler has posed:
"That sounds beautiful." Dazzler points out after the description of the mountain and the painting he's working on is shared, a dreamy sort of smile flickering across her face for a moment before she settles the spoon in her bowl. There is a glance towards Bean, nodding faintly, but then she offers, "I think anything can be inspiration, yes. Which it souds like this mountain inspired the mountain of his dreams."

Colossus has posed:
Colossus nods, "It was the first time I looked beyond the farm. I wasn't like Illyana, I didn't...yearn to be elsewhere as much. I liked our simple life. But I am a mutant and mutants, in this world, do not have the luxury of simple lives. Not yet. Someday. That is what we fight for, da?" he says.

He heaps his own plate high and begins to eat politely but swiftly.

Samuel Morgan has posed:
Bean waits until his mouth is empty to reply, nodding in the meantime. "Inspiration is where you find it. I'm sorry you didn't get the simple life you were hoping for, Mister Rasputin."

Eggs and bacon are contemplated for a moment, possible phrases running through his mind on how to respond further. Blatantly so, even, the pause is quite unnatural. "The right to have a simple life, where what you are isn't important? That's something worth fighting for... yeah... yeah, I could fight for that."

Dazzler has posed:
Dazzler's smile slips just a bit when mention of a simple life not being possible yet is made. It's possibly a good thing most of the ice cream has already been eaten, because she slides the bowl away before nodding her agreement, "That is what we fight for, yes."

Beast has posed:
Henry McCoy had come in, but then his phone got him. That resolved, he tries again. "Let's try this again. Good evening. Do I smell bacon? Any left?" He starts by getting himself a coke, though, becuase that's a decent way to start.

Colossus has posed:
Colossus smiles, "Plenty left, Doctor," he says, having already prepared a plate for the blue-eyed Beast. "We were just speaking of inspiration. I am sure you have much of your own, in your work," he says.

"I do not mean to speak as if I am unhappy with my life. On the contrary. I find much satisfaction here at Xavier's. But it is not at all what I expected as a boy driving a plow."

Samuel Morgan has posed:
This is straying into territory where Bean finds it polite not to answer. He just does not have the life experience to either claim his life was utterly unlike what he had expected, or offer assurances that all is for the best, in the end. Luckily he has food left on his plate, so he can use it as an excuse not to say anything for a short while, instead plying knife and fork.

Dazzler has posed:
"I think there is plenty left." Especially since she doesn't seem to be taking part in the bacon eating, even if it does smell wonderful. Alison shakes her head, "No, I understand that the life and dreams of a child aren't always what you end up with, but that doesn't mean what you end up with is bad. Just different."

Beast has posed:
Henry McCoy snags the bacon with a rumbled "Thank you very much," and then finds himself a place to lean. "Inspiration. I would describe my work akin to how Thomas Edison described his work. One percent inspiration. Ninety Nine percent perspiration." And he begins to dig in. "Though sometimse scientific breakthroughs are themselves inspirational."

Colossus has posed:
Colossus nods, "So it is, also, with art. Executing my vision is far more difficult than simply dreaming it. Although at times it feels easy, as if I weren't even guiding my own hand. I suppose that is the sentimentalist in me, Doctor. I find myself moved by a spirit of creativity that I cannot define. But it is as real to me as the atoms and chemicals with which you work," he says.

He notices Samuel's quiet, but does not judge it, simply giving the boy a bit more food if he would like.

Samuel Morgan has posed:
More food? "Oh, yes please, thank you Mister Rasputin." Because you can never go wrong offering Bean food. And yet despite that, he doesn't look like he is even an ounce beyond ideal weight. "Didn't the helical form of DNA come about because a scientist was looking at a spiral staircase a few days before? Art and science can't be that far apart, when you think about it."

Dazzler has posed:
"Is that so?" Dazzler wonders as she gets to her feet, collecting her bowl to head towards the sink and rinse it out before she dries her hands off, "While I would very much love to continue to be part of this...I fear I should try to get myself to sleep. Good night you three."

Beast has posed:
Henry McCoy lifts a piece of bacon and salutes Dazzler with it. "Wise thinking, Good night!" Then eating the bacon, he turns toward Colossus and Bean. "Moods matter. Some moods you just get more done. I imagine that has to be as true of art as it is of anything else. And the doubl ehelix? PEople dolove to romanticize that. But that was years of research and incrementalism by many teams around the world. Sorry." He winks.

Samuel Morgan has posed:
"It's a story my father used to tell." The ghost of a smile flickers on Bean's face, before he digs into the eggs and bacon again. "He used to compose when he came home from work. Maybe it's something about people who like to think, that they can never think of just one thing?"

Beast has posed:
Henry McCoy starts eating bacon with more alacrity, as he is quite a bit hungry. "Composing after work. Must have been awfully relaxing for him." The coke starts to go quickly, too, so he grabs a second. "NEed anything?"

Samuel Morgan has posed:
The urge to say 'just some water' is strong, and as soon as Bean becomes aware of it, he quashes the impulse. "Any Mountain Dew left? Not the healthiest, I know, but... need a bit of sugar after today." Because today had started as usual before dawn, and still hadn't ended, with very few chances for rest in between.

"I used to listen to him, in the big living room where we had the piano. He always smiled."

Beast has posed:
Henry McCoy doesn't care about health when it comes to the caffeine. He grabs a coke for himself, and a Mountain Dew, and gently tosses the can over. "I'm sure it was wonderful," he nods to Samuel. "And with that I think I'm going to go read a bit. Long day. You take care now." He then heads out with his coke and a few remaining pieces of bacon.

Samuel Morgan has posed:
And then there was silence. Now Bean can eat in peace and quiet, devouring the rest of the bacon and eggs... nom.

Nightingale has posed:
Shannon ambles on into the kitchen, dazed, bemused, and definitely /not/ empty handed from what looks like a rather productive shopping trip. As she's coming in, Mr. McCoy seems to be going out, and for a moment, it's a dance in the doorway. With her rather awkward payload, it can easily be seen why. She's carrying a... guitar case?! "Oh, hey Bean!"

Triage has posed:
Chris is not far behind Shannon. He stops outside the door so that she can precede him. Then he sees Mr. McCoy and lingers outside until the biologist can exit. Finally, he strolls into the kitchen. Noting Bean's apparent focus on the food. "Did you want or need time alone, Bean?" he questions. "If so, we can grab something and leave."

Samuel Morgan has posed:
It seems that it's going to be a day for art and inspiration. Bean looks into the reflection of a large pan to see who comes in, a habit he still hasn't gotten over, although he does sit with his back mostly to the door for once. Baby steps... Of course his eyes fall on that guitar case for a moment, and then on towards Triage. "Nah, c'mon in guys. Plenty left, Mister Rasputin's cooking. I can get you some plates if you're hungry." Of course, Bean hadn't been around the school for most of the day, having been driven somewhere just before lunch and, it seems, having only just arrived back. "Good shopping trip?"

Nightingale has posed:
"Yeeeeeah, you could say that." Shannon just rolls her eyes and chuckles, saying no more on the matter, but instead finding a clear spot to lean the guitar case against. "What was cooking, just out of curiosity?" Quick change of subject, yes siree!

Triage has posed:
Chris heads for the cabinets to fetch plates and cutlery for Shannon and himself. Both seem perpetually hungry as a possible consequence of their gifts. "The crowd was a bit thicker than I'd expected, but it was good," he answers over his shoulder. "How was your day?"

Samuel Morgan has posed:
"Not too bad. Just had... something I had to do. Few tests. I think it went okay." And yes, Bean seems pretty evasive about that. "Guess I'll know tomorrow, or in a few days." Rather than elaborate, he answers Shannon, for now not asking about the guitar. "Eggs and bacon, toast. Simple stuff, but it's pretty good."

Nightingale has posed:
It looks for a moment as if Shannon might actually refuse the food, the winged girl actually hesitating. She glances between the guitar, the door, and Bean, debating for a long moment. She had just wanted a snack, not much else. "Actually..." she picks up the guitar case all over again, and starts for the door. "Maybe another day..."

Vi has posed:
Though Vi had been wearing her boots more, she forgot to don them when she left her room to head downstairs to the kitchen. Though she doesn't avoid people in the halls as she did at first, she still walks quietly over near the wall as if to stay out of people's way.

Her senses are heightened, and Vi pauses outside of the kitchen as she hears well the voices coming from it. A moment's hesitation, enough to let people talk and for her to see who is there before she decides whether to go in, or wait. It still feels odd to her taking food from the room, and so when she's able to get what she needs without others present, that has been her preference.

She finally continues on though, stepping into the room quiet as a mouse. Wearing jeans, bare feet, and a long-sleeve knit shirt that clings to her, the young woman glances around the room as she enters. Giving everyone space as she moves over quietly to the pantry to look inside.

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie comes walking in not to much after Vi, but he looks around nodding to the kids as he heads over to the cabinet and pulls out a cup of noodles filling it up and if none are using the microwave he puts it there and leans on the counter beside, seeing what the others are talking about.

Triage has posed:
Chris turns from the cabinets. "Breakfast for dinner sounds good," He answers Bean. Then Shannon, who had left the guitar case only a moment earlier, grabs it again and stalks toward the door. Chris frowns, glances to Bean, Vi, and then Sam. He sets the two plates on the counter. "That /sounded/ good, but I seem to have lost my appetite." He looks to Sam and Vi, gestures to the plates with cutlery ready, and invites, "You two might enjoy this. Please excuse me." Then he, too, heads for the door.

Samuel Morgan has posed:
Bean is halfway through chewing his next mouthful when both Shannon and Triage decide, together, that they're suddenly not hungry anymore. It's leaving the kid confused, utterly confused, and more than a bit concerned. So much so that he's even breaking a cardinal rule, and talks with his mouth still half full. "Guys? What's wrong?"

Under the circumstances, Vi and Sam only get a half hearted nod and wave in greeting.

Nightingale has posed:
Shannon stops for a moment and peers at Chris. "Your gifts need the food." She nearly runs right into Cannonball on her way through; once she regains her balance, though, she scoots out the door, her case catching on the entryway briefly. She's definitely not quite used to the thing yet, but hopefully time will solve that.

Vi has posed:
Vi looks over the pantry, taking a box of fruit rollups and peering at the front of the box. Her lips move slowly as she reads the box. She moves to the side to make way for Samuel Guthrie to get his coupe of noodles. When he puts it in the microwave and works the controls, she watches what buttons he hits.

The conversation by the others, and the abrupt decision to depart, brings Vi's attention back over. She looks to the plate that Chris had set out and is now offering towards herself and Samuel Guthrie. "Are you sure?" she asks in a quiet and hesitant voice. Her eyes dart between the others, as if sensing something going on but realizing she doesn't understand it, and doesn't seem to want to step into the middle of something.

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie 's brow raises a bit at the two moving to leave. He will lower his head as if to sniff at his arm pits. He does look over and seeing Vi reading smiles a bit to see she is making progress. His noodles ding, and he pulls the out to let them sit on the counter and seep for a moment. "Everything ok?"

Triage has posed:
Chris stops halfway toward the door and turns. "She had an unsettling experience at the mall," he answers Bean, but glances to Sam and then Vi. "It could have been worse, but we never know when danger might find us, even in Salem, where we are relatively free. I'm sure that she'll be okay but I should go and talk to her." He frowns again. "Please excuse me," he repeats and then heads for the door.

Nightingale has posed:
Shannon takes off through the door, without even so much as an apple in hand... where she could be heading, is anyone's guess...

Samuel Morgan has posed:
Slowly, Bean puts down his cutlery and sits up a bit straighter, scratching the back of his head with both hands. "Well... I hope she's okay. Look after her, alright?" There is not even a hope that his social skills are developed enough to know what just happened, why it happened, or what he could and indeed should have done about. All is simply confusion. "Man, I hope Bear got along with me. I so could have used him right now."

Vi has posed:
Vi gives Triage a little nod at his explanation, then watches as Shannon departs. Vi doesn't offer anything more, staying quiet rather than risking saying something that might unknowingly make matters worse.

She does take Bean up on the remains of the breakfast foods as she sees that no one else seems to be making a move for it. Though there are probably three timid looks around, giving time for someone to object before she finally transfers some of the food to the plate.

She takes the plate, setting the fruit rollups back into the pantry without taking one, and glances about the room. She'd intended to take whatever she got back to her room, but the plate of food isn't the best for a long trip. Instead she moves over to a corner, hopping up onto the counter and resting the plate in her lap as she eats.

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie looks over to Bean and says "Bear? have I missed a new arrival, seems like I missed quite a bit today." He does look over to where the others left and hmms. He looks over to Vi. "Your studies coming along well?

Samuel Morgan has posed:
Bean looks over towards Sam and blinks twice. "Hmm? Oh, no Bear's not a student. I mean, he might be moving in. I hope he's going to be moving in, but that's up to the people from the organisation. Everything went okay, I think, so... just depends on if he liked me or not." Yeah... a lot of information and probably nobody any the wiser. Techno had been excused classes for all of the afternoon, and had been driven to an appointment in New York proper just before lunch. For reasons of 'mental wellbeing', which is a pretty broad category.

He nods over to Vi with a smile, encouraging her to eat up, before starting back on his own plate which is by now nearly empty.

Vi has posed:
The smile from Bean is a welcome one after Vi wasn't quite sure what was going on earlier with the others. "Thank you," she tells him as she sees his gesture towards the food.

The young woman tucks into the food, eating quickly as she always does. "I met a chemistry teacher. Mr. Parker. He mentioned someone that might be able to help me with some of my power he would see about getting together with me," Vi says.

She gives Samuel Guthrie a quick nod. "I'm spending a lot of time on them. They told me I could work as fast as I like," she says. She's the only one in the fully remedial class at the moment, everyone else at least having moved past that point.

Vi does glance towards the pantry. "What is a fru-eet roll up?" she asks, mispronouncing the one word.

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie says, "Basicly dried fruit and a lot of sugar." He will tell her "Decent for a carriable snack, that will give ya a bit of a sugar rush. They are ok, you can take a couple up to yur room if ya want.""

Samuel Morgan has posed:
A slight clatter of cutlery and then Bean has finished with the remainders of his lunch and dinner, which he suspects is going to end up being breakfast as well considering the time. He's not someone who goes to bed very early, but the same time he does schedule a morning run at six every day... It pays not to be too late. "Help yourselves to what's left, but remember to thank Mister Rasputin for it later. And... ask him about the painting he's working on. I suspect he'll like that."

Vi has posed:
Vi gives a quick nod of her head back. "I will, though I don't know that I've met him yet," she says. Maybe she did and she's forgotten. So many names and faces to learn.

Vi takes her dishes over, loading them in the dishwasher as she was taught. She doesn't have much knowledge of the kitchen appliances other than the stove top. Vi moves over to get two of the fruit rollups. "I'm going to head back to my room," she says quietly. She smiles softly over to both Samuel's. "Thank you," she tells them both, before slipping out quietly.
