Date of Scene: 10 November 2019
Location: Legion Cruiser - Ship Interior
Synopsis: The Legion holds a tryout and induction for Alex Power and Drake!
Cast of Characters: Zero-G, Slipstream, Mon-El, Invisible Kid, Brainiac 5

Zero-G has posed:
It is the late hours of the Earth's evening cycle, though so far away from the planet on the Cruiser, it's practically impossible to tell. Luckily for Alex Power, it's the weekend, and he won't necessarily have to return home until tomorrow evening. This shouldn't take that long. He had met Drake, who extended a mostly informal invitation to the Legion and showed up accompanied by the other, dressed in the black and white Kymellian bodysuit of his younger years.

Baptized by fire in the black vastness of space, it's not the being here that impresses him but rather the actual cruiser. Friday is an advanced piece of work but ultimately pales in comparison to what 31st-century technology produces.

"Wow," He says to Drake, blue eyes wide. "And your teammates - they're all from the future?"

Slipstream has posed:
"Yup. They are all from the future." Drake says as he strolls through the ship with Alex, pointing out a few neat and interesting things. "It still blows my mind that I'm in space and that I get to hang out with them and do space stuff." Today he is wearing his usual uniform that makes up a pair of black jeans, a solid black shirt and an Overwatch bomber jacket. Snowball is following after him as well with her usual lazy sway.

Having pinged Lar ahead of time that he was bringing up a guest, he flops down into a chair and sags back comfortably. "Take a seat dude. I'm sure they'll be up soon once they finish whatever they are doing. "Are you nervous?" He asks curiously. "No way you're nervous, huh? You're a big time famous superhero on Earth."

Mon-El has posed:
It's not long before Lar does come out to greet Drake and the potential new recruit. He's also dressed casually tonight, as his human friend.

"Drake, it's good to see you." he says amicably, nodding and then extends a hand toward Alex. "You must be Alex Power. I'm Lar Gand. Welcome to the cruiser."

Invisible Kid has posed:
Nothing at all says a quite casual "Hi!"  This is accompanied by an equally casual meow.
First, a smallish black cat appears, hanging draped in mid-air about 1.5 meters in the air.  One presumes this is what meowed, but supers being what they are, that's not a certainty.
The owner of the original voice then appears, quite literally appears, just flicking into view.  It is around his neck that the cat is draped.  "Bringing a friend up, Drake?  Or a friend with benefits?"  He didn't get Drake's memo to Lar.  Or he did, and he's having fun.
He nods once towards Alex in greeting, after Lar provides an introduction.  "Invisible Kid.  Obviously," he says with a grin.

Zero-G has posed:
"Thanks for the sentiment, Drake," Alex starts, grinning faintly but going-over the complexities of the ship. Much bigger than his smartship, too. "but I'm not -that- famous. To answer your question, though, no. Well," He brings his hand up and makes an itty bitty space between his fingers. "Maybe a little. It's new, but new experiences are exciting."

Lar comes forward, and Alex shakes the hand. "Thanks. Happy to be here. Most people back home call me Zero-G," He smiles, noting both of their attires. "What, you guys don't wear the typical hero ensemble? Come on, it's tradition!" Maybe in the future, customs are different.

Okay, there's a quick yelp at the whole reappearing cat/boy act, and Alex's head spins. "Um..." He sheepishly brings a hand around his neck, maybe from the embarrassment at being startled or the implication of Lyle's words. "He's a friend! Alex, Zero-G, Gee. Hi."

Slipstream has posed:
"Hey Lar, Lyle." Drake says cooly as he bumps his shoulder against Alex's to give him a bit of confidence. "Yes, he's a friend. Alex is a big deal down on Earth. He and his siblings used to be in a group called Power Pack. They saved Earth a few times with the Fantastic Four and the Avengers."

As he gives Lar a fist bump, this time he doesn't get his hand broken! "He wants to try out for the Legion. He's a pro at space stuff. Has fought aliens and all that good shit."

Mon-El has posed:
Lar nods at the introduction. "A pleasure to meet you." He also nods in acknowledgment toward Lyle when he appears, although there is a little bit of a brow quirked at him. Is he -trying- startle people? Probably.

"Well, let's head on over to the simulators and you can show us what you can do, okay?" he suggests, and then starts heading in that direction.

Invisible Kid has posed:
Lyle has the infernal gall to not only look innocent, but to look innocent more or less plausibly.  "We have a fair number of non-Terrans in the Legion, so fighting aliens needs to be on a case by case basis."
He give the cat a friendly rub behind the ears.  "Of course, so does fighting other Terrans," he remarks with a smirk.  "Zero-G, huh?  I'm assuming some sort of gravity control, then?"  He falls in alongside Lar; the simulators are as good an idea as any.

Brainiac 5 has posed:
"I checked his Wikipedia article," Brainy says, arriving out of a doorway. "And some YouTube videos. He has the same powers at roughly the same level as Thom." Who's Thom?

"Which ought to give you an idea of where to start him out."

Zero-G has posed:
Alex doesn't mind Drake boasting on his behalf. He stands at little straighter, at the brief run-down of his accomplishments, but also gives a humble smile. "We didn't always fight them. Diplomacy stops war just as, if not more, frequently," He says easily. "I'm definitely not here to start any fights. Aliens are our friends." And then comes a green one (also the only person here that Alex can immediately tell is an alien) who has seen his stuff, and therefore proves his point.

"Oh, you guys have another gravity kid?" Alex nods at Lyle's assessment, taking an anti-gravity step towards wherever Lar leads them. "That'll make things interesting. Maybe we can synergize."

Slipstream has posed:
"We got another speedster too, so I'm hardly special on this boat." Drake says as he blurs back and forth a few times with a burst of blue light. He swings his arms about to loosen himself up. "You got this, Alex!" He calls out to his friend to boost his confidence and morale. "Hey Brainy!" He says as he blurs up to his seed, shoulder bumping him. "Who's Thom?"

Mon-El has posed:
Lar touches a control panel near the doors to the simulator, and they slide open to reveal a white and barren looking room. Plenty of space, though! "Yeah, I figured as much." He nods at Brainiac, then turns to Alex and Drake. "Thom Kallor, otherwise known as Star Boy. He's from Xanthu and has similar gravity-manipulation powers." he explains.

Then he briefly directs his attention to the control panel, and the simulation starts to take shape around them. Suddenly it looks like they're standing in a large valley surrounded by grey mountains, with a round, frozen lake in the middle.

Invisible Kid has posed:
Lyle deposits his cat on a button-free area of the control panel.  She's a good kitty, she won't bat buttons randomly.
    Maybe
"Diplomacy is a good thing, especially when you need it to distract an opponent from something underhanded you might be up to," he says.  The voice of experience?  He'll never tell.  "Thom is our usual go-to guy for gravity manipulation, but he doesn't seem to have been shunted back to this era, which is both a good thing and a bad thing.  Good for him for avoiding the whole mess that swept us up, bad for us because we could always use more teammates."  Lyle looks up from the control panel and smiles, and shrugs, and may have pressed a button without looking.  A Legionnaire should expect the unexpected.

Zero-G has posed:
The name makes it pretty obvious what Alex's powers are, and he wears the Kymellian symbol of gravity across his chest. "Dude, that is so cool," He bubbles up, lifting off the ground when the room changes shape. He sniffs, "Even the air smells different." That could just as well be a psychological thing. He gives Drake a thumbs up.

"So what do you want to see?" Alex asks, floating in front of Mon-El now. "I can do a lot of things. Fly, obviously. And, um," He makes a thinking face, fingers under chin, before stretching out a hand and negating the gravity around everyone, Drake and kitty included. It's a floaty feeling, typical no gravity stuff. He's being conservative, for now.

"I'm happy to fill in during his absence!" Is directed back to Lyle, while Zero-G floats aimlessly.

Mon-El has posed:
Lar isn't fazed at all by the floating of course, given he's someone who can fly. But when Lyle presses a button, suddenly what looks like a swirling vortex of purple energy appears over the frozen lake, and out of it comes a monstrous looking creature! It resembles a giant scorpion, with several massive armor plates across its back and tail. Without warning, it screeches and lunges at Alex, mandibles attempting to latch onto him!

Indeed, a Legionnaire -should- expect the unexpected...

Invisible Kid has posed:
"Gravity control is a pretty handy thing to have," Lyle remarks.  If he finds a giant purple vortex scorpion at all surprising, he doesn't show any more than the raising of one eyebrow... although his cat is less phlegmatic and leaps up onto his shoulder.

Zero-G has posed:
Scorpions are gross! Especially when they try to come at ya. It's all instincts the way Alex flips away and brings his fist down. With it, the slamming force of gravity over the creature's armored body above the frozen lake. The ice shatters. So might the scorpion, but Alex is neither looking to be lethal nor believes this thing to be real.

"Gee, that thing literally came from nowhere. Literally!" He looks at Lyle and Lar. "Is this part of the tryouts?"

Mon-El has posed:
The armor on the creature's back cracks, but doesn't quite give, though it gets slammed down onto the broken ice. Still, it manages to scrabble its way out of the freezing water, and brings its tail up. Something fires out of it at Alex, something filled with some kind of corrosive fluid!

Even as he looks down to where Lar and Lyle had been standing, they don't appear to be there any more. Looks like he's on his own for this one...

Zero-G has posed:
"Huh," Alex's shoulders slump slightly, at the disappearance of the others. Some tryouts! In the corner of his eye, he does manage to catch the scorpion thing squirting at him, and maneuvers around it. Gross.

"Gross," He says aloud, before touching down further away from it on the frozen lake. If it's sturdy enough to handle a giant monster thing, it can support his weight. "You know, you kinda look like a Zn'rx," They're sentient, though. Is this thing sentient?

Mon-El has posed:
The slime projectile misses Alex and hits a tree, nearly instantly disintegrating it into a pile of brown remains. The ice is cracked, and there is a hole where he'd slammed the thing down into it, though the rest of it seems intact--for now.

As for whether the creature is sentient or not, that question goes unanswered, though it would seem the latter is true. When Alex lands on the ice, the monster seems to grab its hind legs and roll up into a wheel-shaped thing, with its back armor plates on the outside. It crunches across the ice as it comes barreling toward him!

Zero-G has posed:
"Oh, wow, you guys are, like, hardcore," Alex notes, with raised brows, looking at the disintegrating tree. Did he almost die? Drake should have told him that recruitment could potentially be lethal. That would have been an important thing to mention. He has to remind himself that this is a simulation. A high-powered simulation but just some fancy tech.

"Right," He rubs his hands together and positions them in front of himself, knees bent, and feet grounded to the icy surface. Along the surface of his white sleeves, black gravitons appear, 'pixeling' his arms, and he 'pushes'. The ice dozens of feet before him collapses into the freezing lake. The creature's path is all water.

Mon-El has posed:
The ice cracks and crumbles under Alex's influence, breaking up and falling into the frigid water. With the momentum it has going, the monster isn't able to stop fast enough, and ends up falling into the subzero lake, where it becomes trapped in its current rolled up position.

It's not long before the surface of the hole Alex just created starts to re-freeze, albeit much less smooth than it was before. Then, the landscape shimmers and fades as a voice chimes "SCENARIO CLEARED." And he can once again see Lar standing there in the empty sim room. As to where Lyle got off to--well, who knows with him, really?

Zero-G has posed:
Standing straight, Alex watches expectantly as the creature falls into the frozen depths and the world fades away around him. Success. He lets out a woot in triumph and raises his fist in the air, "Whew! That was fun, this is sorta like a virtual reality game! Don't let Drake near the control panels. If he could find a way, he'd be playing Live Action Overwatch...or is that a thing he already does?"

Alex is clearly excited to have passed...or cleared. Did he pass? He frowns suddenly, looking at Lar, but his eyes are still bright. "Did I do okay?"

Mon-El has posed:
Lar chuckles, nodding. "Nice work, Alex. Good strategy there, using the environment to your advantage. I think you'll make a great addition to the team." he extends a hand of congratulations.

Zero-G has posed:
Alex beams from ear to ear. "Awesome!" He gives Lar's hand a hearty shake. "It's truly an honor to be a part of this." And for what it's worth, the young hero seems absolutely genuine in that.

Slipstream has posed:
Letting out a loud cheer, Drake gives his fist a pump. "Hell yeah, Alex! You kicked ass!" He says as he bounds at Lar's side like a hyper-active puppy. Even Snowball has a n.n across her faceplate, followed by: CONGRATS that follows after in LED lights.

Mon-El has posed:
"Well, I think all that's left is for you to recite the oath and get your ring." Lar says with a smile. "And you too, Drake. I think." he chuckles. "Unless Brainy already did yours?"

Zero-G has posed:
"Hey, thanks!" Alex wraps his arm around Drake in a brief but warm side hug, and then he pets (?) Snowball's rounded top. It's supposed to be affectionate. "A ring?" He looks at Lar, inquisitively. Also, the oath. What's this oath business.

Slipstream has posed:
Returning the side-hug, Drake grins at him, then holds up his hands to show no ring. "Brainy said that our fearless leader has to do it. He also may have said some other grumbly uncouth things at the time too. Something something responsibility something something he is far too busy to deal with this bullshit something something math." He looks amused. "But I am ready to take the oath!"

Mon-El has posed:
Lar chuckles. "Sounds about right for the green grump." he says teasingly. Don't tell Querl he referred to him like that, okay? "Right then, guess we'll get right to it. Just repeat after me:

"To the Legion of Superheroes I make this solemn pledge:

To use my powers for good.
To fight for justice and protect the innocent.
To aid my fellow Legionnaires in times of peril and to keep their secrets safe.
I choose a new name to honor the heroes of the past.
    I am...
"

"And then you say your hero name. Got it?"

Zero-G has posed:
Listening to the pledge, Alex smiles excitedly at Drake, before raising his hand to recite the words. They leave his lips, and he is quite solemn in his recitation, standing tall. He can be serious when he needs to be, and this is one of those times.

"...I chose a new name to honor the heroes of the past. I am Zero-G."

Technically, it is a new name. He only came up with it a few months ago. Gee was his OG name, but now it's Zero-G.

Slipstream has posed:
Waiting for Alex to finish, Drake raises his own hand upwards as if to pledge an allegiance, placing it over his heart. He recites the lyrics as well, chest out, shoulders squared.

"I chose a new name to honor the heroes of the past. I am Slipstream."

Maybe one day Brainy will prove him wrong and he will take the name Dynamite. But that day is not today. Not yet at least.

Mon-El has posed:
When the pledge is finished, Lar nods and pulls out two Legion Flight Rings, one for each of them, and holds them out in his palm for them to take. "These rings will allow you to both fly and communicate with the rest of team across vast distances. Though not across time." he winks. "Welcome aboard, both of you."
