Description:

This is a man dressed in a voluminous, inky black cloak. So encompassing, there's the impression he's more fabric than figure. The folds of the cloak form ghostly stripes, like a ghastly tiger prowling through the night with the broach clasping it together the beast's glowing eye. It seems to billow lightly with the hint of a frigid wind. Nothing can be seen when it gapes, save the impression of a body of shadow standing between the world and a void so deep and encompassing its like looking into the abyssal zone of the ocean - unimaginably cold and crushing. Only the man's face bears any real semblance of normalcy. African-American, young adult, jawline marked by evidence of a beard. However, even the facade of humanity is darkened by a haunted stare, with near black eyes more reminiscent of a shark than a man that leech away the emotion and replace it with the countenance of a predator.

History

History 1:
A poor kid from South Boston, Tyrone Johnson lived your average life of a young, urban black man in the struggling income bracket. He was a good student and a good ball player, but had difficulties expressing himself due to a persistent stutter for which resources to assist weren't available for a relative nobody in the public city school system. For all that, he tried to keep clean, wanting to get the chance to escape to a better life before the streets consumed him. It wasn't to be. A day spent out with his best friend, Billy, ended in a decision that would change his life. Accidentally framed for theft due to being in the wrong place at the wrong time, Tyrone wasn't able to force out the words to proclaim his panicking and running friend's innocence before Billy was shot down. Horrified, with the nightmares of police brutality made real and his own perceived guilt for failing to save his friend, Tyrone fled and didn't look back.

History 2:
His frantic escape from the life he knew brought him to New York City, where he ended up facing the street thug he hoped never to be. With nothing to his name but worn sneakers and clothes, he dreaded having to turn to theft in order to eat. But before he could strike his mark - another runaway named Tandy Bowen - someone else beat him to it. With his own sense of justice and protectiveness rising up, Tyrone intervenes and saved Tandy. From that day on, they were both friends and the other's lifeline in a cold, heartless world.

History 3:

It was this friendship and bond that helped them survive their greatest test. The two were kidnapped off the streets, prime targets for an experimental drug test to create an ultra-addictive new substance. For numerous others, the results proved fatal. For Tyrone and Tandy, it opened the (dubious) door to their destinies. They ultimately escaped the facility, but the two who returned to the world weren't the same as who left. Possessing of alien abilities and frightening new insight, they vowed to try and use these powers to protect those who had no one, and to rid the streets once and for all of the poison and menace dragging humanity to its death.

Personality

Personality:

Tyrone, as a mundane man, is a reserved and loyal individual. He believed once in the goodness of people and that there was a silver lining behind the ugliness of the world. As Cloak, he sees the only way to get to that is through force. The ones who claim to protect the world are failing. The innocent suffer. Children die. Women are sold into servitude. If peace wouln't resolve this, then it means war. Even if there is collateral damage in the process, the ends will justify the means. For those who create evil, there is no mercy from him. They chose their crimes, and so they can suffer their punishment. Everyone else can either help him or get out of the way. The sooner the cancer is cut away, the quicker everyone can heal.

Abilities

Darkforce Dimension:
Tyrone is able to access a pocket area of the Darkforce Dimension, through which he is able to pass freely and use it as a gateway between physical locations on Earth. Anyone else that enters or is pulled in - save Dagger and those protected by her light - finds themselves caught in an icy living nightmare. It is presumed anyone left there eventually perishes, though that may be a kindness as those released run a high plagued by madness by what they've experienced. However, it's possible those with a potent will or possessing of their own powers may be strong enough to resist these effects. Even contact with Tyrone may be enough to trigger horrifying visions of someone's worst fears and consuming guilt. This is due to the presence of the Predator, an eldritch being who resides there, and possesses an incessant hunger for living essence, or the 'light' of other beings. In his persona of Cloak, Tyrone is heavily influenced by the Predator who stalks through his psyche and spirit like a parasite, spreading its need to consume into him. Dagger's light can satisfy it temporarily, but it always comes back for more, leaving Tyrone struggling between retaining his humanity and devolving into a gleeful need to devour and destroy. (OOC Note: Consent is needed to go trying to nom a PC. For those who may get absorbed, the insanity effect is optional for them if they don't want to experience it, and they could also attempt to best the Predator to force an escape, either by wit or force. Forcing it into slumber by brute force or power would strip Cloak of his powers temporarily until the beast heals. For those more wily, it may be possible to find an exit protected by the Predator, a link between Cloak's pocket dimension and unknown places. A way home, or a way somewhere else?)

Physical Power:
As Cloak, Tyrone's body is intangible, though his face and features remain solidly visible, and thus cannot be harmed by physical objects. His body and limbs are shadow, but possessing of an inhumane strength. He's no Superman, but at least has displayed an animalistic strength one might better associate with a person full of adrenaline and anger, like a mother flinging a car off their trapped child. If his power can extend beyond this or for long periods of time is unknown. He is able to take on a mundane human form, at which point he is simple Tyrone. Physically fit and entirely mortal, complete with the stutter that's haunted him his whole life.

Shadowman:

Thanks to his ties with the Darkforce, Tyrone has a limited control of shadow. This is primarily an extension of the portal-like link between him and the void of the Dark, but he can extend its influence to darken an area around him as he absorbs the ambient light. With effort, this has extended to roughly the span of a warehouse. The effects of this are primarily harming only to sight unless someone is able to create light to see by or otherwise has a supernatural level of night vision, but losing control of this risks pulling anyone impacted into the dimension. So it takes a concentrated effort of will to prevent this, and so he can't take many actions if he's actively just trying to darken an area.

Skills

Sports:
Tyrone was a well accomplished basketball player in his youth, and he has the fitness, agility, and coordination one would expect from it.

Street Warfare:
Tyrone knows how to fight dirty. He doesn't subscribe to any particular discipline, he just knows how to brawl like he was on the streets. Similarly, he knows the basics of gun firing (pistol, rifle, shotgun primarily) and care as well as fighting with a knife. He doesn't tend to actively use those, because why bother when neither do harm and he can just absorb someone? But still, it's like riding a bike. He's also familiar with your improvised weapons and some ranged like molotovs.

Streetwise:

Tyrone may not have actively run on the streets, but he knows them. Now more than ever. As he's settled in New York City, he took his base knowledge of gangs, drugs, and the urban life and expanded on them. He knows the major groups at play within the city, what they're known for, territory, and where runners and sellers can usually be found. He's also got knowledge of the other common players, like pimps and trafficking rings. Any new information he gathers tends to be by force. He doesn't see a need to ask nicely when someone's peddling crack to kids. He'd likely known the level of detail of a resident beat cop or narcotics detective. Specialized, but he needs to dig to get real content.

Resources

Dagger:
Tandy Bowen, AKA Dagger, is Cloak's other half. To him, that's quite a literal concept. She keeps his hunger in check, and is his one trusted source in this world. Next to their mission, nothing in the world is more important to him.

Holy Ghost Church:

A decommissioned church looked after by the former pastor, Father Francis Delgado. It's the home base and literal home of Cloak as well as Dagger, a forgotten sanctuary run down by decreasing funds and dying faith in an increasingly cold and modernized world. While someday it may open again to parisioners, Father Delgado remains, watching over it and reaching out from the doorway to those in need. He also remains as a sentinel, keeping the secrets of the two vigilantes as he tries to turn them away from their cruel life and onto a more godly path. If he can cause a demon such as Cloak to repent, then maybe God will return to the church.

Weaknesses

Dependency:
Cloak needs Dagger. It's a relationship that transcends just friendship but isn't nearly so wholesome as love. It's as deep and as powerful as an addiction, going past a physical need and into an emotional and spiritual one. She is the only thing standing between his hunger and the innocents of the world. Her hand that wards contact with a figurative nuke launch button. She is his only source of goodness in the world, and while his remaining humanity grieves at the torment he puts her through, his driving need to continue with their mission keeps him firmly bound to her side. A lot would argue it's not a healthy relationship, but any who know their story could confirm that their lives together have been an ongoing struggle of pain. At least together, they can try to weather it.

Hunger:
Cloak's hunger is all consuming. The Predator's influence is toxic and pervasive, and it's bound to every fiber of his being. If he doesn't appease it, the hunger drives him mad to the point it's dangling a cocaine-dusted burger in front of a week's starved junkie. He becomes downright animalistic, and can be as dangerous to allies as he is an enemy. He'll consume anyone who comes close, and isn't likely to give them back.

Obsession:

Cloak believes he exists for one reason - to clear the streets and prevent others from suffering as he and Dagger have. Drugs, child abuse, prostitution, forced labor - if it is a job that derives means from human suffering, he will seek to eliminate it by any means necessary. Turning him away from something he believes must be done is like trying to turn a speeding train, and sometimes all someone can do is direct his fury versus stopping it. Nothing gets in his way. He doesn't care who you are, from cop to Avenger. If you try to keep him from eliminating a target, you are every bit as guilty as if you were directly enabling it. It makes him extremely difficult to work with, and makes him a very unlikely candidate for formal teams. Cloak doesn't play well with others.
