Piotr Nikolaievitch Rasputin was born and raised in the Russian Federation. He is an alumnus of Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters, where currently teaches Art, and he is an active member of the X-Men. Description:
At an even six and a half feet in height or around a full two meters, this young man towers above most people. No less impressive in other dimensions, his broad-shouldered and barrel-chested, solidly-built frame makes him seem just a little larger than life in every way. Around that iron frame he is powerfully muscular, his torso characterized by a prominent pectoral wall and defined abs, his arms by bulging deltoids and biceps, and legs by equally prominent quads and thick calves. While short of the over-defined look of a professional bodybuilder, he could readily be mistaken for an Olympic athlete. And yet apart from this impressive physique, his looks are, in a way, otherwise quite plain, or at least simple. His square-jawed face is clean shaven, with a straight-lined nose, strong chin, and light blue eyes that are somehow too soft, too calm and gentle for such a giant figure. Thick black eyebrows match the midnight colour of the man's hair, which is cut neat and short with a prominent widow's peak above his forehead, trimmed neatly over his ears, and across the nape of his neck. Overall, his features have a stereotypical Slavic look to them, and when he speaks, it is with the deep timbre of a noticeable Russian accent.

At the moment, he is dressed casually, wearing a pair of rugged denim blue jeans that fit well across the powerful muscles of his legs. The jeans appear to be fairly new, as the cuffs have yet to sport any white threads, and are held up on his waist by a narrow leather belt with a burnished bronze buckle. Tucked into the pants, the man wears a heavy-duty flannel over shirt, with a red and black checked design. The shirt is roomier than the jeans, if no less successful in hiding his impressive musculature. The sleeves of the over shirt are left unbuttoned and rolled halfway up his forearms, and a white crew neck t-shirt can be glimpsed under the neckline of the garment. The man's large feet are encased in pair of brown, heavy-duty work boots, scuffed about the toes and sides, and sporting a little mud along the soles. He presents the image of someone who may have just come in from working in the great outdoors, or is preparing to do so.

A metal giant in the shape of a man, this figure towers at some seven and a half feet in height, a colossus of glistening steel. No less massive in other dimensions, his shoulders are wide and his chest equally broad, giving him close to the breadth of two normal-sized people. And yet, for all his size, this 'thing' seems not a construct or robot, lacking the telltale marks of mechanical design, of even the most masterful engineering. While his 'skin' is marked with regular horizontal grooves, there are no rivets, no separate plates, interlocking joint-works, gears, ball-bearings or other such typical components. Indeed, instead of actuators and gearworks, his functionality seems wholly grounded in organic forms: the metal man has muscles. And while they huge and bulging even for his size, with exaggerated pecs, abs, deltoids, biceps, quads, and every other structure one would expect, the biomechanics are still familiar, natural-looking. Indeed, in every way beyond his size, beyond his metallic construction, he looks humanoid - or very nearly human.

Perhaps this is most evident of all in the giant's face. It is a man's face, there is no doubt, albeit square-jawed and solid. But this visage, like his body, comes with every human feature, a nose and lips, brows and ears, capable of the whole range of human expression. He even seems to have some recreation of a human hairstyle, black in contrast with his skin, and trimmed neatly with a visible widow's peak. His eyes, however, lack for the normal details of iris and pupil, and are only featureless silvery orbs.

The giant is clothed in what appears to be some sort of tight costume of stretchy material that clings to his hulking metallic musculature. Appearing vaguely like some sort of V-shaped leotard, it covers his groin and the center of his chest up to his shoulders while leaving some of his abdomen and all of his sides exposed. A belt is worn over it, this red with gold trim, with a prominent 'X' logo in the center of its large circular buckle. He also wears red boots up to his knees and bracers, though these are surely aesthetic choices rather than providing functional protection to the purely metal man.

History

History:

Piotr Nikolievitch Rasputin is the middle child of Alexandra and Nikolai Rasputin. He has an older brother named Mikhail, and a younger sister named Illyana. He was born in the the Russian Federation, near Lake Baikal, which is the large lake just north of Mongolia.

After saving a Russian nuclear submarine, he was invited by Charles Xavier to attend his school in America. Since then, Piotr has graduated high school, gone on to study university-level courses, though he never did earn a degree.

He had been teaching Art classes at Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters when his seven year old sister Illyana was kidnapped. Despite his best efforts, he proved unable to rescue her. Fortunately, she was able to rescue herself, but as a seventeen year old.

It has taken some time for him to accept this development. He did not take it well. It put burdens on many of his friendships, and may have even cost his relationship, such as it was, with Kitty Pryde. So much remains to be seen. But he is teaching once again, and has rejoined the X-Men as an active member. Life is returning to normal.

Personality:

Piotr Rasputin is a painfully shy, modest, self-effacing, and selfless sort of fellow. He would have been content to live out a rural existence as a farmer and painter back in the motherland. But Charles Xavier entrusted him with a great burden.

Piotr does not fight for himself. In fact, he would not consider himself to be worth fighting for. He fights for many reasons, for his friends, for the innocent, because it's the right thing to do, because he sees it as his responsibility to use his abilities, but never for himself. He considers himself to be a very small piece of a great cause. He would not be worth the trouble. But during his time here, he can do some good.

Outside of Xavier's cause, Piotr lacks direction. He knows no life besides it, and his humble beginnings. He does not need things. He is not concerned with the latest video game console, or celebrity trends. None of that matters to him. All he cares about is that he strives to be a decent, caring man, and seeks the reassurances of female affection.

He's somewhat backwards in that, almost as if he is a man out of time. He comes from a culture where a man provides for his family. He does hard work, and he is rewarded by the affection of his wife and children. It's a simple belief, but hard to come by in this modern world, and especially so in America.

He has a pure, untouchable soul, and he is an idealist. He has killed. It shocked those around him, but none were more shocked than he himself. He is a good man who has had to endure enormous hardship. Perhaps it is a Russian thing. But Piotr and hardship walk hand in hand.

Piotr is unusually formal, especially in his speaking pattern. He does not like to use contractions. When he talks, it can often come across as a speech. This is not by design, just how he is. He grew up in the Russian Federation. Perhaps it is a language issue, but he does not think so. There are Russians who are far less formal than him. It must be a Piotr thing.

Abilities

Durability:
Colossus' metal form is extremely resistant to harm. Essentially invulnerable to conventional weaponry and attacks, he can withstand artillery-scale armaments or direct fire from a main battle tank, and immediate explosions in the range of several kilotons without harm (and might well be able to survive significantly larger ones at any distance or with some degree of injury). He can survive extremes of temperature from barely above absolute zero (allowing him to survive in space in the vicinity of a star) to heats well above the melting points of known metals. His body can withstand blows from some of the most powerful superpowered individuals, and in some cases, has caused them harm in return due to the impact of striking his hardened metal-flesh. He is resistant to powerful energy attacks from other mutants (such as those of Cyclops or Havok), unaffected by electricity, and is even resistant to magic.

Iron Will:
Piotr Rasputin is a moral man. He possesses a pure, incorruptible soul. When he feels strongly about something, he cannot be easily dissuaded. He can be reasoned with, he can change his mind, but he cannot be stopped. Whether you call it obstinate or determined, he is resolute in his convictions. Add to that the emotional training he has received under Charles Xavier, and he can be nigh unshakable. He believes that doing what is right is of far greater importance than doing what is legal.

Organic Steel Form:
Piotr Rasputin is able to transform his body into an organic steel-like substance, created by psionically replacing the carbon in his cellular structure with osmium (the densest naturally occurring element) from an unknown dimensional source. The transformation to steel form is nearly instantaneous and always total. He cannot selectively transform a limb or other body part. In this form, both his size and mass increase, gaining a foot in height and doubling his natural weight. While transformed, he possesses significantly increased strength, durability, and stamina. He does not need to eat, sleep, or breathe while in this form, and although he has no known limit, the longest he has remained cautiously in this form was for five days. He did not suffer any ill effects.

Strength:

In human form, Piotr is an extremely athletic specimen of large build, with strength around the level of an Olympic weightlifter. When transformed, he can lift in the range of 70 to 100 tons, enough to lift the X-Men's Blackbird or similar.

Art:
Piotr Rasputin is a self-taught artist. He is an accomplished painter and sculptor. At first, it was simply a way to relieve the stress of his daily life, but he has since honed and developed his skills to the point where he could make a comfortable living as an artist. But, he prefers to make gifts of his work. He also possesses an excellent singing voice.

Fastball Special:
Piotr Rasputin is the master of the Fastball Special. It consists of him grabbing a trained comrade and hurling them at a target. Wolverine, due to his unbreakable bones, compact size, and razor-sharp claws, is the most common beneficiary of this move. But it can be performed on anyone. Besides Wolverine, it works best on acrobatic comrades who can catch themselves or roll to a safe stop. Control is the key. He can put them anywhere they want, but he can't do anything for them once he lets go.

Horticulture:
Piotr Rasputin has a green thumb. He grew up on a farm in Siberia, learning all about the science, technology, and business of plant cultivation. Since he immigrated to America, he has helped to keep the garden and flowers around the Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters.

Languages:
Piotr Rasputin's first language is Russian. Growing up Ust-Ordynski, he learned to speak a few phrases in Kazakh, Mandarin, and Mongolian. He has since become fluent in English, and is currently studying Hebrew.

Literature:
Piotr Rasputin is Russian, and they are known as "the world's most reading nation". Piotr is an expert on Russian literature in particular, having read the works of everyone from the classics by Vasily Zhukovsky, Alexander Pushkin, and Nikolai Gogol to postmodern works by Zakhar Prilepin and Alexander Karasyov, and everything in between.

Piloting:
Piotr Rasputin is a trained pilot. He can operate the Blackbird and most commercial aircraft. His size prevents him from piloting most military aircraft. His best bet would be a bomber or some helicopters, not that it's likely he'll ever find himself behind the controls. He can ride a motorcycle, drive a car or truck, but again, size can be an issue for him.

Studies:
Piotr Rasputin is educated, but unfocused. He has taken university-level courses on a wide range of subjects at Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters, but has yet to find his true calling. He does not have a degree, but his transcript indicates that he is close to qualifying for several.

Unarmed Combat:

Piotr Rasputin is a judoka. He was first introduced to Judo by Scott Summers and has since gone on to earn a black belt. He has trained in other forms of martial arts under Logan, but that has been informal training. He prefers to employ a "Whatever works" philosophy to combat.

In addition to this mixed bag of maneuvers and his intense Judo, Piotr is a pugilist. He is a Boxer. Boxing sharpens the reflexes, improves awareness, and provides power. It's blocks and using the 'armor' provided by muscles is an important part of his fighting style. The training regimen is also a good way to keep lean muscle in addition to the powerful body building he does for muscle mass.

Wealth:
Piotr Rasputin does not want for anything. He periodically takes construction jobs, usually offering his services in lieu of rented machinery. He can do things in less time and with greater finesse than a machine can, and that way he only costs one person one job on one project.

X-Men:
Piotr Rasputin is a current member of the X-Men. He resides at Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters and has access to the Blackbird, which he is certified to operate. The resources of the individual X-Men are extensive.

Xavier's School:

Piotr Rasputin is a senior faculty member of Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters, where he teaches Art. It is his main source of employment. He cares for his students, and does whatever he can for them. He is also a member of the Teachers Union. There is something strangely comforting for him to be in a union.

Family:
Piotr Rasputin is loyal to a fault where his family is concerned. Whether they are related to him by blood like his father Nikolai, mother Alexandra, sister Illyana, and brother Mikhail; or by friendship like Kitty Pryde and the rest of the X-Men. Piotr would do anything for them. His love and support is unconditional. He would at a moment's notice drop everything and go to one of them if he were needed. Losing a member of this extended family, either by death or betrayal, is always difficult for him, and a traumatic experience to say the least. They are part of his life.

Foreigner:
Piotr Rasputin is a Russian living and working in America. After all these years, he is still at his heart, a foreigner. Oh, there is the accent to be sure, but his English is excellent. No, he has a European outlook on life. He works so that he can live and enjoy life, while most Americans live so that they can continue working. He stands out in a crowd, physically, but also mentally. He has never quite assimilated into American life, although he does love his adopted country very much.

Katya:
Piotr Rasputin will always hold a special regard for Kitty "Katya" Pryde. She was his first love. He could not act upon it; he could not even admit he felt it. She was, and is, younger than him. It was an uncomfortable situation. Her crush, and his inability or unwillingness to quash it, was frowned upon by his fellow students and teachers alike. There were times it seemed as though Lockheed was the only one to approve. Naturally, just as things were beginning to progress, the situation with Illyana arose. He knows not what the future holds, but she will always hold a special place in his heart.

Little Snowflake:
Illyana Rasputina is, was, and ever shall be Piotr's "Little Snowflake". When she was kidnapped, it caused him anguish, grief, anger, and a whole host of other emotions. He lashed out at his fellow X-Men. He lost Katya. He had to take a sabbatical from teaching, and from being an X-Man. He is still going through these emotions. But what transpired has rocked him to the core. He may never be the same. She won't. And if it ever happened again... Piotr would feel a great swell of pity for the poor soul who tried.

Mutant:
Piotr Rasputin is a mutant. This is a matter of public record, ever since he rescued the Russian nuclear submarine that was trapped at the bottom of the ocean. As a mutant, there are those that hate and fear him. Some will act against him. He is an alumni of Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters and an X-Man. In his metal form, he is easily recognisable.

Organic Steel Form:
Piotr Rasputin needs to consciously decide to transform into his organic steel form. While in human form, he is as vulnerable as any man of his height, build, and physique. Being taken unaware is a major concern. Despite the resilience of his form, his osmium-alloy flesh can be cut by certain superior materials (notably adamantium), although it is still incredibly dense compared to normal flesh, requiring significant strength to cut deeply. He also has a particular weakness to vibranium, contact with which causes him to revert to his normal form.

Public Identity:
Piotr Rasputin is against superhuman registration of any kind. Not that he will ever have a choice in the matter. His identity became a matter of public record very early on in his career, when he saved a Russian nuclear submarine. He knows this has put his family at risk, but there is nothing he can do about it. Still, the very thought terrifies him that someone might use this against him. Going through his family would be the surest bet to get him to do something he did not want to do. There will be consequences.

Rage:

Piotr Rasputin is a kind and gentle person. He is selfless and knows no personal fear except that which is internal. If some people are made of nitroglycerin, able to explode at a moment's notice, then he is more like plastic explosive. Most of the time, he is stable. But when you add a detonator, like the thought that he might lose someone he cares about, he is capable of the most terrible, vicious, and bloodcurdling rage. You wouldn't like him when he's angry. He has a monster inside him.
