Scott Summers didn't have a home for much of his life until he came to Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters. Once he was there, he gave himself over to Charles Xavier's dream completely. Earnest, dedicated, and harder on himself than anyone else ever could be, Scott is a young man who believes whole-heartedly in the call to help mutants and show the world that mutants and humans can live together in peace...and just as fully in protecting his people if he has to.

Scott is a relatively young man, appearing to be somewhere in his twenties. His face is clean shaven, his well-defined jawline and chiseled cheek bones clearly visible. His hair is dark brown and medium in length, parted on one side and swept back on either side. The most prominent part of his appearance are the deep red ruby quartz sunglasses that conceal his eyes.

He wears a simple red t-shirt that matches the color of this sunglasses. The fabric hugs his athletic frame rather snugly but is mostly obscured by a dark leather jacket. A pair of dark blue jeans and dark brown boots completes the ensemble. While his clothes are casual, they are impeccable in their appearance, suggesting a lot of care has gone into their maintenance.

Scott Summers is the first born son of US Air Force Major Christopher Summers and his wife Katherine. Growing up in Alaska, Scott and his brother led relatively normal lives until returning from a family vacation, their plane went down. What Scott assumed was an accident turned out to be an attack by a ship from the extraterrestrial Sh'iar Empire. Before the plane hit the ground, Katherine Summers was able to strap her two children into the single parachute on board and push them to safety.

The two boys were found and while Scott remained in a coma for the next year, his brother was placed in foster care. Once he regained consciousness, Scott was placed in an orphanage in Omaha, Nebraska where he remained until his teenage years. It was then he was taken into foster care by a man, who also turned out to be a mutant criminal. Shortly after being taken in, Scott began suffering from extreme headaches that culminated in another life-changing accident. One day during an especially intense headache, a massive optic blast shot out from Scott's eyes and hit a crane, causing it to drop its payload towards a group of bystanders below. Fortunately for them, Scott was able to realize what happened and he was able to cause a second blast to eviscerate the payload before it landed on anyone. Terrified of what he had done and being persued by a mob of angry people, Scott fled.

Scott's foster guardian, recognizing a unique opportunity, demanded Scott's help with his criminal enterprise. While he initially refused, Scott eventually gave in as his guardian began to physically abuse him. Little did Scott know, however, that his accident with the crane had drawn the attention of one Charles Xavier, who eventually tracked him down and rescued him.

Xavier took Scott to his Institute and mentored him. Teaching him to control his powers and to use them for the betterment of humankind and mutantkind alike, he also instilled upon Scott the philosophy that humans and mutants could live together in harmony if given the chance. Scott, having lived a hectic and sometimes tormented life, bought into the ideals entirely and joined with Xavier and eventually helped form the X-Men to uphold Xavier's philosophy.

Scott is very serious. That's simplifying it, really. The thing is, Scott //takes// everything seriously, because almost everything is incredibly important to him. He lost everything - family and memories - at an early age and didn't find anything to replace it until he came to Xavier's. The school and its mission are his entire life, and he's spent every minute since his arrival trying to prove himself.

Unable to control his power, instead he tries to control his surroundings. Most of it comes from a place of fear and uncertainty, but he can't admit it - that would mean admitting that he isn't perfect, and deep down he's terribly worried about what people might think of him. He can handle being the jerk who makes the hard decisions, but he can't handle the idea that he might actually let people down.

He's precise, tactical, and detail-oriented. Whenever he makes a decision, it's because he's thought through every possible outcome and how he plans on reacting to it. It means he's almost always prepared for anything, but there's little that frustrates him more than finding out there's something he wasn't prepared for. And when it happens? He blames himself, and he's not happy until he's found a way to fix it.

Scott believes deeply and earnestly in the idea that someone should protect mutant-kind and that mutants and humanity should be able to live peacefully together. He hasn't lost the hopefulness of youth yet, but he's too smart to not see it coming - he just hopes that he can make everything right before he does.

Energy Resistance:
Since his power is fueled by absorbing energy, Scott is immune to the effects of his own power. He is also immune to blasts from his brother, Alex.

Optic Blasts:
Scott absorbs ambient energy and involuntarily metabolizes it to a generate powerful optic blasts by channeling forces from another dimension. Unhindered, these ruby-colored concussive beams generate more energy output than a large nuclear reactor. Due to his own psychological fears, his blasts are limited to lower limits that can rupture thick carbon steel plates. With his ruby quartz lenses, he is able to focus and narrow the energy from the width of a pencil up to ninety feet across. They also allow him to reduce the output of his blasts to non-lethal levels. Without them, however, he is unable to shut off the optic beams except by closing his eyes.

Spatial Awareness:

Scott has an enhanced sense of spatial awareness, allowing him to bank shots off of various and multiple surfaces with uncanny accuracy. Conveniently, this can help him navigate if he's without his visor and unable to see. It also helps him to see and comprehend the status of a field of combat, keeping track of combatants and threats.

Scott's sense of responsibility and his skills in tactics and strategy have meant that he's often taken a leadership position in class, training, and missions. He's not a charismatic, well-loved leader, but he's tough, fair, efficient, and effective. Even the people who don't like him will usually admit he's good at it.

Martial Arts:
Scott doesn't just rely on his powers in a fight. He's trained intensively in martial arts, particularly judo and aikido. He's an expert in both, and since there's a high chance that he may be fighting hand-to-hand because his visor or abilities have been compromised, he's capable of doing it with his eyes closed.

In his spare time, Scott likes to tinker. Usually it's on cars or motorcycles, but taking things apart and putting them back together helps him to focus and think things through. His unusual spatial awareness also means that he has a particular skill with how things fit together.

Scott is a skilled pilot despite his youth, using his spatial awareness skills to maneuver in the air and his skill as a mechanic to understand how the aircraft works.

Tactics and Strategy:

Scott has an excellent mind for tactics and strategy, and he's honed it in his years at Xavier's. He always thinks ahead, considers consequences, and weighs the possible results. He's been doing it so long about everything that it's second nature to him now.

Visor and Glasses:
Scott owns both a combat visor and more low-profile glasses of ruby quartz which allow him to control his powers.

Due to his being the leader of the X-Men, he has the resources of the X-Men at his disposal. He can gather the rest of the team, use the Blackbird as he needs, and access to the vast database the school has on the Brotherhood and other related mutant criminals. He is also a master of setting up Danger Room scenarios, often using it to train not only himself, but the rest of the team.

Xavier's School:

As a graduate in good standing at Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters, Scott can draw on the resources of the school for training, supplies, and support.

Power Regulation:
Scott is unable to stop the blasts from his eyes. Some of this has to do with damage from the place crash, but most of it has to do with his own mental issues about control and self-doubt.

Scott usually releases his blasts in short concussive bursts, but should he unleash their full power, it would require about thirty minutes to deplete his energy reserves. It would necessitate another 15 to 30 minutes to recharge his blasts to their maximum levels again.
