Profile

A broken and mourning man reforged into a weapon, Drax doesn't remember his life as a human. He remembers only the lies put in his head and the hate born of them, the hate that makes him crush and annihilate anything that gets in his path. Sometimes he has fun doing it.

Description:

Drax the Destroyer is a rather spectacular hunk of spaceman. He's massively built, broad shouldered and bald, with a huge dome and glowing red eyes. His skin has a dark greenish hue interlaced with runics smears of dark red that limn his body like dried blood. His features are brutish and rough, with a strong jaw and prominent nose. He doesn't smile easily or much but, when he does, he does it with every fiber of his being.

Drax isn't much for shirts, his broad chest generally exposed, muscle on top of muscle displayed on his inhuman frame. He wears dark trousers with a pair of matched daggers at his waist, the souvenir of an earlier battle in his life, along with boots. For all his size, he has great speed and athleticism and, in general, tends to take up a lot of space just by existing.

History

History:

Arthur Douglas lived as an ordinary man with an ordinary life on Earth. A resident of New Mexico, he worked as a tax accountant, played the saxophone and had a wife and a teenage daughter. And then a terrible starship crashed alongside the highway, wiping out his simple life. In death, he found the rage he had always repressed and his soul was harnessed as fuel for vengeance.

The Eternals of Titan, desperate to stop the most brutal of their number, Thanos, poured the spirit of the angry Arthur into an Eternal body of their own design. A living weapon, an engine of destruction, they called it Drax. Other called it The Destroyer. Drax's only purpose, at first, was to destroy Thanos. His soul was filled with hate and his mind with broken memories that never quite made sense. They didn't need to. As the years have gone on, Drax has died and been reborn a few times, each time a little different, put together a little more complexly. He doesn't really know his origins anymore or who he is. But he also feels the ability, for the first time, to really think for himself, to not be so utterly consumed by his mission. Of course, now he isn't really sure what to do with himself. Maybe he'll guard the galaxy.

Personality

Personality:

For many years, Drax barely had a personality at all. He was just a being of pure rage and vengeance, burning to destroy Thanos. Now that he's gained more sentience, his personality is decidedly...unusual. He seems to have lost his ability to grapple with metaphor or subtlety or nuance. He is direct, blunt and outspoken. He doesn't really understand fear or many other basic emotions. He finds himself constantly perplexed by the other beings around him, but usually decides it's their fault for being dumb or weird. He has a surprising amount of self-confidence and is very comfortable in his own skin, lacking shame or guilt or any of the emotional baggage that often holds people back.

Abilities

Energy Blasts:
Drax can manifest and unleash blasts of cosmic energy, usually through his hands or his eyes. He uses these abilities rarely, as they drain his personal battery much faster than physical exertion even at high levels. At their most powerful, he could punch a hole in the hull of a small spaceship. Still, he relies on these rarely and tends to use them as a last resort.

Invulnerability:
Drax is exceedingly resistant to injury. Most conventional weapons won't have that much effect on him. His resistance to injury is equivalent to his strength, enabling him to take survive powerful explosions, survive massive falls from a great height and trade punches with the most formidable of superhuman strikers. Nothing short of an adamantium or vibranium blade will punch through his skin with anything resembling ease, although some high level energy weapons can do more damage than blunt force.

Scenting:
Drax has a superhumanly sensitive nose. He can recognize and track people by smell alone. He can recognize hidden or invisible parties by catching their scent on the air. He does not think most people smell good.

Self-Sustaining:
Drax does not need to eat, sleep or breathe (although he does eat often, simply for the taste). He can exist in the vacuum of space safely and can exist essentially eternally under his own power without aging.

Strength:

Drax possesses a prodigious degree of superhuman strength. At base, he can generally lift/press around 85 tons, although he can push near 100 at the very limits of his capability and adrenaline. He can punch through solid rock, bend steel and generally is every bit the powerhouse tank of his reputation.

Skills

Destruction:
Drax has been programmed to be a formidable force of chaos. He has intensive fighting skills which, combined with his power, can make him as formidable as an entire brigade of soldiers all by himself. He's particularly adept with his fists, his chosen daggers and high-powered energy rifles of the kind favored by a variety of imperial fleets.

Insight:
Because he sees the world quite differently than most people, Drax can often have unexpected insights or offer novel solutions to difficulties. He's not burdened with a lot of preconceived notions and prejudices and can often make a clear judgment when others minds are clouded. That said, he can also be confused and completely misinterpret things, but sometimes things go his way.

Sax:
Of his human life as Arthur Douglas, the one skill that's remained from his mortal days is that Drax can play a mean jazz saxophone.

Wayfarer:

Drax has been around the universe quite a bit in the last fifteen to twenty years. He's travelled all over the place, visited many worlds and experienced many cultures. Does he remember all of it? No. But he's still good at finding his way in the universe and adjusting to the local norms and getting by. He doesn't get lost very much and, when he does, he can right himself with relative simplicity.

Resources

Daggers:
Drax wields a dual pair of daggers he took off an elite warrior in a gladiatorial fight. The blades are razor sharp and made of a meteorite metal of unknown origin. They are nigh-unbreakable and capable of piercing through even heavy armor plates, not to mention chopping through flesh and bone like butter.

Guardians:

Drax often allies himself with a group known as the Guardians of the Galaxy, a ragtag crew of so-and-sos who get into trouble, take jobs and occasionally save the universe. He's often on their ship and can call upon them for help. Mostly. If they feel like it. Okay, he doesn't rely on it much, but it's always a bonus when it happens.

Weaknesses

Cosmic Charge:
Drax's powers essentially come from him absorbing and storing ambient cosmic energy and converting it for his use. If his charge is drained or if he is deprived of access to such energy for long periods of time, he will grow weaker or even enter a dormant stasis state until he can be properly revived.

Memory:
Drax has been brainwashed a few times over. His mind is not particularly well put together. There are gaps, mistakes. He's forgotten people. Sometimes he still does. He doesn't always get the same benefit of experience as others.

Mentality:
Drax's mind is extremely literal and straightforward. He doesn't quite understand nuance or subtleties. Metaphors and similes pass him by pretty much entirely and he tends to take most statements quite literally. This can lead to mistakes and confusion in both combat and diplomacy.

Psychic Barriers:
Drax has very few to no psychic barriers. He's relatively easy to mind control and trick with psionic illusions. While he has great willpower, he simply has no particular discipline or talent in deploying it to protect his mind. The only exception to this is if he becomes consumed with pure rage and enters a berserker state, but he doesn't do that very much anymore (and even then they can still often point him in a direction, if not control his chaos).

Wanted:

Drax has caused a lot of chaos and has a price on his head in quite a few star systems. He's hunted by bounty hunters now and again (the brave and the stupid ones) and has a certain degree of notoriety. This can be worse if he doesn't happen to remember that he did terrible things in a place once.
