Safiya Ahmadi is a teenager from the Metropolis area. She's been running with gangs for awhile but she's looking to turn over a new leaf. For a start she'd like some help learning how to control her powers. She's the worst sort of empath. The kind that can't sense 'pleasant' emotions. What she can do is shape and control the less pleasant ones... Anger, fear, lust. In other people and as physical objects. Some people will recognize Darkforce when they see it. For Safiya the world is a uniquely dismal place. Maybe she'll find a teacher.

DARK EMPATHY

Safiya has the ability to sense 'dark' emotions, such as those associated with the seven deadly sins. She can utilize these powers on anyone within line of sight. Avarice, sloth, lust, wrath. Depression, anxiety, fear. She can create these in people or- with more effort- weaken these feelings by drawing on the energies implicit in them.
Draining someone completely can render them docile, unable to rouse the strength to oppose her but this is difficult to do with more than one or two people at at time and requires concentration. Three is the most she can handle at a time. This takes a few moments to recover from in most cases but can be shaken off when she loses concentration by someone with very strong willpower.
Powerful sources (such as someone in incredible distress) will draw her toward them from long distances (anywhere in a large city) to plot distance in an extreme case (millions of voices voiced suddenly cried out in terror and then were suddenly silenced).

DARK PSYCHOMETRY

When in locations where events inspiring extreme negative emotions (like murders or major fires) have occurred Safiya can sense this and get an idea of what happened simply by reaching out. Sometimes this will activate involuntarily and it can be overwhelming when she is unprepared.
The specific timeframe in which this is used depends on a variety of factors largely to do with her concentration and the size of the emotional resonance. If Safiya is looking for something specific she can get visions of major events (like murders) that can range as far back as twenty or thirty years.

Passively it would be restricted to things that happend in the last few months. Ghosts, visitors paying respects, or anything else that would add to the emotional resonance make this easier. In the most extreme cases, like certain events in WWII, going anywhere near the event even now could overwhelm her.

The specific details depend on the power of the source. For example, a murder conducted fifty years ago would probably be mostly impressions and tiny glimpses of events that may or may not have any utility. She might emotionally recognize a relevant person.

A murder last week can probably be felt in detail with moments rendered clearly. It will be useful to solving a crime but may or may not provide everything Safiya needs. Meeting the killer is likely to make her uneasy though she might not immediately be sure.

MENTAL RESILIENCE

Safiya is largely immune to powers that would affect her emotionally. She will feel the attempt but can dissociate herself as her own powers afford her a level of control over her mind, if not in a pleasant way.

Safi is also quite mentally tenacious and so difficult to mind control despite lacking a supernatural resistance to such powers.

SHADOW FORMS

The dark emotions Safiya senses (including her own) manifest as a sort of energy. This energy, when she releases it, takes the form of shadows. For her, these shadows are malleable and can be magically formed into simple constructs that are very resilient, difficult to cut apart with a blade (but it is possible for a determined person) and extremely resistant to bullets due to their lack of specific weaknesses. They may also be diffuse enough to pass through or act as normal patches of darkness. Blunt impacts can disorient them as they are quite light and a blow from, say, oncoming cars at street speeds can completely disincorporate them. Explosives and acid tend to be as effective on them as they are on people, and fire (like a torch) somewhat moreso.

Nothing may be made with moving parts (like a gun), but they can form simulacra that move and can lift things of their own - tentacles or arms, spikes. Darkness can be solidified in an attempt to crush people or block projectiles. Such constructs require constant maintenance and concentration.

Safiya can use the emotions of a person who is angry or frightened to make a construct. By herself she can manage to create one. Each construct requires a source of emotional power to keep it operational. If someone is noticeably angry or scared they are about as strong and the size of a person. As that emotion grows it can become stronger.

In general she can form one construct per person available up to ten. More than that and concentrating on them all becomes difficult or impossible. If people are in extreme distress or in sufficient number the constructs can scale up in strength and size to slightly above the capabilities of a human. A large crowd in utter panic might allow her to make a single particularly large and powerful monster able to lift and throw many tons, like large trucks (primarily as a plot device.)

The shapes are controlled by Safiya but tend to be whatever people in the crowd find scary, thus feeding the shadows' power.

ESOTERIC SKILLS

Safiya is particularly knowledgeable Violin, Acting, Mathematics (through high school), History knowledge, Literature (especially classics), television history, and other random trivia. Her favourite pass time is photography and she is also adept in the use of Photoshop.

PSYCHOLOGY

Spending so long in people's heads has given Safiya warped views on what people do but she is still extremly proficient in psychology and understanding others. She's particularly good at using it for social engineering, letting her actions convince others to act on her behalf.

STREETWISE

Safiya has spent enough time around unsavory sorts, particularly small-time gangs, that she knows who's who or how to find out as well as how to handle herself when she's in a dangerous spot. She's quite adept at manipulating these situations to her advantage.

CONCENTRATION

Attacking Safiya directly will make it difficult for her to concentrate which can disrupt her constructs or even disincorporate them and loosen her grip on people she has assaulted with her powers. If she can't focus she can't fight well, mostly limited to brute force waves of panic or anger and fleeing.

EMOTIONAL FEEDBACK

Safiya's powers enhance all sorts of negative emotions, including hers. When she is feeling bad she can get overwhelmed. When she's overwhelmed it can get out of control. When she is channeling the fear of dozens or hundreds of people (such as during a major supervillain attack) it can be difficult to keep control of all of the power coursing through her and separate her emotions from the feedback.

ENEMIES

Safiya's made enemies of a couple gangs in the Metropolis area and there are always people looking for someone 'villainous to vanquish.' Many assume her powers mean she's evil without even investigating.

IMPRECISE POWERS

Safiya's constructs and shadow tentacles, etc. are not fine tools. They can't make fine manipulations (like writing or typing). Constructs are, on their own initiative, quite clumsy as well, and an exceptionally nimble opponent (like an acrobat) can outperform or outrun individuals easily. This imprecision also extends to their actions. the constructs tend to be slow-witted in their actions. Safi can direct them personally but that takes a lot of concentration and will only work for up to two at a time.

OUT OF SHAPE

Safiya is not terribly athletic. She's an excellent swimmer and quite flexible but things like running, climbing, etc. do not come easily to her.

RUNAWAY

Safiya has no family support and until recently was legally a missing person. She also didn't finish highschool and while she is smart enough her paperwork won't reflect it.
