Profile

Jane Foster is an ordinary woman who lives among the extraordinary. Having come to New York City, the only challenges she faces as she takes up her doctor's residency is the looming threat of medical bills and making the subway on time. It's a lonely, boring, and honestly frightening life when lived under the shadows of gods and supermen. Maybe stitching someone up after a car accident isn't as glamorous as moving an entire falling building, but you work with the cards that you're given. If she can just save a few lives, then she'll have made a difference. Who knows, maybe those lives will go on to become the next heroes.

Description:

Jane Foster is a woman bordering on the tall, who's over all fit if flirting the line with a close relationship with coffee and frozen burritos. She's Caucasian in skin tone and doesn't look like she gets out in the sun as much as she'd like to, with long brown hair often pulled back in a bun or ponytail to keep it out of the way. Her dark blue eyes are set deep under long lashes, giving her a frequently pensive look that can still brighten with a smile.

During work hours, she's seen commonly seen in a doctor's white attire or hospital scrubs if she's assisting more messy procedures. When off the clock, she dressed like anyone else - in the most comfortable jeans and t-shirts she owns. Jewelry is usually very minimal. She doesn't seem like a woman who favors the glamorous or excessive.

History

History:

Jane Foster's early years were the typical American story. She had parents who loved each other and provided everything they could through tough work and occasional sacrifice. It was a modest life, but a good one, and she was happy. That life changed when she was nine and cancer stole her mother. From that point on, Jane knew she wanted to be a doctor and to someday help some other little girl's mom come home. Her father worked himself to the bone, sacrificing himself day and night working extra jobs and dutifully attending every extra curricular activity, scrap of homework, party, and day off that he could to make sure that there was enough money for her future and happiness for now. He never wavered, never complained, and gave his daughter everything with a smile. Shortly after she graduated from high school, he died of a heart attack.

Initially upon graduating from college she'd begun work as a nurse, and was lucky enough to get hired right away under an obscure but well-regarded Doctor Donald Blake. They worked well together, and she even assisted him on some field work, such as a call for additional support in San Diablo after a mass attack. They became close over a year of working together, but Jane ultimately broke off a burgeoning romance as she both wanted to attend medical school to become a doctor herself, but also the nagging feeling it probably wasn't acceptable to date your boss in this day and age. This wasn't the sixties, after all.

She attended John Hopkins University to obtain a Doctor of Medicine with additional focus in genetics and molecular biology as related to oncology. She graduated at the higher end of her class, and while not top of it, it was still a respectable run even if her social life suffered heavily for it. She all but dropped off the map during those years, focusing entirely on her studies to the detriment of emailing or even calling people she knew. She's since graduated medical school, and is beginning her first year of residency back in New York City, at Bellevue Hospital in Manhattan. Four more years. Four more until she's a free doctor who can make her own destiny.

Personality

Personality:

Jane is very much the same as the next woman in most regards. She loves her family, tries to love her neighbors, and be a good person when she can be. Time jades everyone's efforts. You grow up up idolizing heroes, only to come out into the real world and realize that doing so much good came with a lot of collateral damage. She still believes in right, but like many medical professionals she also abhors the cost of war and elects to remain as neutral as she can. It's the life that matters, and what someone can do with it if given the chance. This means she'll even treat a villain who just tried to bomb out a cafe, in the hopes that maybe if shown some compassion they may survive and change their ways. Realistically she knows it's as unlikely as a gangbanger becoming a preacher the next day, but it's a fragile dream she tries to keep alive - like a butterfly shielded from a storm. It isn't her place to judge who is worthy of life or death. She's got as many flaws as the next. All she can do is help ensure everyone is given the chance to make their life mean something.

Skills

Cricket Enthusiast:
It's an unusual selection for an American, but having had an Aussie-born neighbor who's kids she would play with, Jane developed an early liking for cricket that's persisted into adulthood. She may secretly break out her ACT Meteors' jersey when she can catch the games and still remembers how to play.

Home Economics Pro:
Having spent a good portion of her life with only one parent, Jane learned pretty early how to be self-sufficient to help ease the burden. She can cook respectably well. She can actually make her own clothes, and did make some of her own scrubs in the past. She knows how to do her own finances. She can even do some basic home repairs. While she has money to spend on luxuries now, she remembers the lean early years and making her way through college. It may not seem like much, but in an increasingly materialistic world, it's helpful to know how to take care of yourself.

Medically Trained:
Jane is a doctor, able to work in a hospital or clinic. Her specialty is oncology, her personal quest to contribute to the fight against the cancer that took her mother. She takes particularly interest in studying the genetic markers that may signal predispositions to cancer and other conditions. Being prepared to fight a battle means you're more likely to win it.

Professional Detachment:
To be a doctor, you need to be able to keep your head cool under pressure. When dealing with her patients or even those she cares about, Jane is able to set aside emotions to handle a situation with her wits clear and a steady hand. At least regarding normal circumstances. Drop a dragon on top of her and she might still panic, or at least scream loudly on the inside. She's a doctor, not a wizard.

Self Defense:

When you live and work in cities, as a single woman you need to know how to defend yourself. She's taken self defense courses, so she can probably handle herself in a mugging. She has a can of bear mace and knows how to use it!

Resources

Money:

Just kidding, most of her money goes towards the daunting cost of living in Manhattan. Thankfully, the inheritance of her mother was wisely invested by her father, who further added his own savings. So Jane was able to pay for most of her schooling between what her parents left plus some additional scholarships, leaving her with a substantially reduced bill. It leaves her able to afford a comfortable single apartment in the heart of the city as opposed to relying on roommates or being relegated to living well out of the city or in squalor.

Weaknesses

Curious:
Bright minds tend to be so because of an intense curiosity, and Jane is no different. For all she tries to be sensible, when it comes to the unusual and mysterious, she can't help but want to explore it. Even when such things are terrifying or outright dangerous, as it was once said, "magic is just science we can't yet explain", and she'll be pulled against her better judgement to try and reason it out.

Marked:
While Jane is as of yet unaware of just who she used to work for, those knowing that she has some importance to the God of Thunder may find her a useful bargaining chip or target to draw him out.

Mortal:
Jane's a normal human woman, and while she can be as feisty as the next, she's still subject to all the same fears, frets, and squishy status as the next.

You Will Listen:

When Jane feels she's got a point to make or feels she is in the right, she will dig in her heels and not move. Be it against man or (unknowingly) a god, she *will* be heard. She may not be able to force someone to understand, but she can certainly try. She gets particularly fiery when it involves her profession. Years of dealing with Google-expert patients have left her with little patience in that regard.
