John's followed the course his life was set on since he was young. School. Sports. College. Military. CIA. It helped that his father was a long time intelligence specialist. Helped him to have a son who could take on the tasks that were needed. Lately though things have gotten a bit rough.

Some people, at glance, give a feeling from afar. Just a slight feeling of unease. Not enough to hold them in mind beyond a few minutes of reflection, but when they're seen the initial impression tends to be a bit worrisome, or concerned. John's one of those people. He's handsome enough, in a somewhat unkempt way. Not that his clothes are pointedly cheap or ragged beyond say a blue collar worker's at times, but there is this feeling of a haze to him. As if he could use a shave with his beard being a little bit unkempt and his hair often seeming like it could benefit from a comb.
Getting past that, however, he has sandy blonde hair and dark blue eyes. He's just an inch over six foot but seems to slouch slightly at times. His brow is heavy, often furrowed, there's a soulful quality to his eyes. Usually he wears jeans and work boots on his days off. Sometimes paired with loose button up overshirts upon a t-shirt. When he has to, however, he cuts a decent silhouette in a suit.

John was born in Austin, Texas into a loving family with his father and mother both caring about him and his brother a great deal. His father encouraged the two to excel, though John always was a little more competent than his more shy brother, so he gained the lion's share of their father's regard and efforts to bring him in to work with him.
John's father was a long time intelligence specialist since the eighties. He worked within the CIA as a troubleshooter that was brought in to handle matters. Often times, to get his reputation as a miracle worker, John's father would go a few steps beyond what was entirely best/safest/legal. He succeeded more often than not and things only became better when he was able to bring his son John into the 'family' business.
John's first efforts working for the CIA came about after his third tour in the gulf while he was still attending Texas A&M while pursuing his engineering degree. He was brought in as a transporter, just to get a package from point A to B and during his efforts he showed a decent gift for the work. So much so that as soon as he finished getting his degree he joined the CIA officially, though for the most part continued working with his dad. While this was going on, John's brother Ed would also at times help their efforts by providing support options.
This continued until last year when an unapproved operation went south and John's father was left holding the bag. It was because of that operation that many facets of John's life fell apart. His wife divorced him. He's been set in front of a desk and forgotten by the agency. His brother was injured badly. And right now he has little positive going for him.

John's a typical Texan guy. Not the caricature that people think of often. Just a guy, a patriot, loves his country, loves his family. He's rather quiet, a bit low-key and tends to keep his thoughts to himself. His speech is often laconic, there's no accent in his words, and he tends to take a no-nonsense view to most of the things he deals with in life. But he does have an affection for music and playing the guitar. Other than that, it's hard to get a read on him.

ENGINEERING
John's focus in his studies while in college was in getting his engineering degree. Though, to be fair, he was a middling student at best. He's not one who would excel in a corporate environment beyond middle management, and when he's asked to crunch numbers for a task it takes him probably a bit longer than normal, though eventually he's able to come up with it.
ESPIONAGE
After his stint in the army, John had started doing some intelligence work for his father. Nothing too staggeringly out there, more him performing the roles needing to be done, just a cog in the greater scheme of things. He's not the kind of operative who would be comfortable just being thrown into a country and being told to destabilize it. He's much more comfortable where he's told to get something done or even better having a handler break down into bits and pieces what he needs to do.
That being said, however, he's got a certain amount of genius for improvisation and follow through. He focuses on a task with laser like precision and can make logic jumps needed to pursue a course of action that'll lead him towards success. He also has a great talent for reading people, and for realizing what is most likely to affect them. But he also has training in typical tradecraft, such as stealth, encryption/decryption, the tactics/techniques used in spycraft.
HAND TO HAND
There is nothing fancy in John's ability when it comes to fighting. He's trained in Krav Maga and close quarters techniques, to a degree that he is well capable in handling himself against multiple combatants that are also reasonably trained. But there is nothing elegant or refined in how he's learned to brawl. He tends to fight in the most abrupt and aggressive way he can, seeking to end it as quickly as he can.
MARKSMANSHIP
John's a crack shot. He's no Hawkeye, of course, but he's proficient with most small arms and has used US military weapons in the field. He's a competent sniper and spotter as well as a talented hunter when he's back home with his family.
MUSIC
John has a talent for playing guitar and singing folk music. In another life he very well could perhaps have made something of a living doing so, since he's reasonably creative. Through the years he's maintained his skill level, which is he can often get the attention of a coffee house or a bar or the like and entertain some people.
SURVIVAL
Partially from his upbringing and partially from his time in the military, John's talented with making do without in a survival situation. He's well capable of subsisting off the land in most environments save for the most severe and can provide food, water, and shelter for himself and others in cases where they're no longer connected to civilization.
TACTICAL DRIVING
Close support personnel often have to learn to handle a vehicle in bad circumstances. He is talented in high speed pursuit and evasion, as well as transferring and repelling hostile personnel when engaged. He is not practiced enough in it to be better than someone who has focused their life on this area of expertise, but he is better than even a gifted driver with no training.

Really, ultimately, John doesn't have many resources in his life right now. With his current status as having fallen out with the CIA and being placed on the backburner, probably with his career killed by the higher ups, he spends his days at a desk. He has an apartment that is provided by the agency, but it's not furnished and is pretty austere. He has some savings, more than someone his age does usually... but in the greater scheme of things that's not that great.
He does have access to a company car three days of the week, but that's it. He could possibly go back home and live with his mom. That'd be great.
