Profile

Lady Shiva is a known Grandmaster of martial arts. She started her life as a martial artist but after her sister was murdered at the hands of a League of Assassins member, she pursued. Only to find herself outclassed. She realized the assassin was right, her sister had been holding her back from her full potential. After making a deal with the devil, so to speak, she took the name Shiva and set a task for herself: Learn as much as possible about martial arts. She has spent all of her life pursuing this goal, becoming one of the best on the planet. Unfortunately, she does not use her powers for good. Instead she is for hire as a mercenary but her skills come at high cost. She sometimes works with the League of Assassins, the Hand, and others as a villain. She will sometimes choose to share her gifts, teaching others so they can one day perhaps reach a level they can challenge her. At rare times, she will even act as a hero. With Lady Shiva, everything depends on if something catches her interest. She continues her path, traveling the world, seeking those who are the best in their fields of martial arts expertise and challenging them to find out who is the best. She fully expects to die one day in her pursuit for that is just another step to enlightenment.

She carries herself with a level of confidence most can only hope to attain. She's completely sure of her every movement, carrying herself with her shoulders back and head held high more often than not. No shy flower although she is beautiful in the eyes of many. Her heritage seems to be mixed, a blend of American and Chinese features striking a perfect balance. Her eyes are the almond shape with the folds showing her eastern heritage, as do her facial features and her skin tone. But her height she gained from her American side, standing a full 5'8". Her body is a blend of both, toned muscles and shapely curves. She does not wear makeup or perfume to try and enhance her appearance in any way.

She often wears a red shirt in an Asian style with a high collar and decorative fastenings across the front. Her slacks are black, form fitting, allowing her complete freedom of movement. Over it all, she likes to wear a black leather trenchcoat that falls to mid calf. Simple slipper style shoes cover her feet.

History

Shiva was actually born as Sandra Wu-San in a small town in Thailand. Her father was American and her mother was native. She had a younger sister named Carolyn. While still in their single digits, they were learning martial arts. The family moved to Detroit where the sisters continued to excel both in their studies for martial arts and their schooling. They became a bit of a draw at the local dojo where they studied due to the level of skills and the speed they learned. They both learned at a phenomenal rate then took what they learned and turned it into their own martial art which seemed much like a dance in some ways. They both were able to read the body language of others almost instinctively.

During this time, a master assassin became interested in the pair. He realized that Sandra was lowering herself to her sister's level, holding herself back from being all she could be. The assassin killed her sister, intending to free Sandra to become better. When Sandra learned who killed her sister, she hunted him down only to be lured into a trap set by the League of Assassins. She lost but instead of being killed, the assassin made a deal with her. If she bore a child for him, and left the child, he would allow her to live. She realized that he had been right, that her sister was holding her back. She agreed to the deal and after the child was born, she walked away from her life as Sandra and became Shiva.

She began her journey of self improvement. She trained under many different masters. The more she learned, the more she wanted to know.

She helped heroes such as The Question, although their first meeting she had planned on him dying. But something about him caused her to save his life and take him to train with another master whom she had trained under at one time. To this day, they would be about as close to friends as Shiva comes.

She's helped train heroes and villains. She's built up her reputation, working with the League of Assassins and The Hand as suits her. She earns money by working as a mercenary and as her skills are legendary, she gets a high price when she's hired for a task.

Through her years on the Earth, she has amassed more knowledge about martial arts than most people even realize exists. That's to being a prodigy, she can master techniques when others would not be able to learn all of them in a single lifetime.

She has many who would see her as a villain which she is in a lot of ways since she kills for money and her own personal advancement. She also has helped train heroes or helped them when it suited her.

She continues her life of wandering, trying to find the next level of enlightenment and beginning to wonder if there is any more to learn. It may be time to find someone to pass all her knowledge to, so there is a legacy when she dies.

Shiva has a very zen outlook on life. She is at peace with the world and her place in it. What is...is. Life, death, good, evil. They are all part of the world. She is completely at peace with who and what she is. She is not one to lose her temper often. It can happen, mainly when she feels disrespected, but mostly she doesn't let her anger be known. She may laugh something off then kill the person who said it. Or she may just go on her way without caring one whit.

She is driven to reach the ultimate level of enlightenment through martial arts. She is always challenging herself to learn more, grow in her skills, get better and eventually to reach the final apex of true understanding of the world.

Shiva is amoral. Some would say she's a sociopath. She doesn't see anything wrong with killing people. Sometimes she does it for the right reasons when she's being a hero, sometimes she does it for pay as a mercenary, and sometimes she does it just because she wants to. It's all whatever strikes her fancy and how she feels.

Respect is a big thing for Shiva. She will show respect to opponents many times but only if she gets respect in turn. If she shows up and is attacked? Then consequences will be what they are. If she is spoken to and treated properly? She may just go on her way without any problems. It's not always the case but with her respect goes a long way.

Despite being a killer of repute, Shiva can be charismatic when she chooses to be. She has an odd sense of humor in there somewhere that shows up at times (sadly usually when she's killing someone but still!). She even has a handful of people who would almost be friends. Maybe. But she wouldn't admit that.

CHI MANIPULATION
Chi is the life force that flows through the body. Martial artists tap into their chi in order to focus their strikes more precisely and manipulate their own bodies. This is a skill Shiva has mastered. She is able to utilize her chi to increase her reflexes, speed, strength, and resistance to harm. Her strength is more like that of someone much larger and physically stronger than her. It was said she can hit as hard as Ra's al Ghul (per Batman). She's as fast and agile as Sensei, a respected master of martial arts. She can take a beating and keep going, even showing no damage from it often, by hardenening her body so it is like steel. Each of these things she does automatically when she's in a fight. She is also able to sense the chi of others, which helps lead her to those who may have knowledge she wants to learn. It isn't like a beacon from a distance but if she sees someone, she will be able to read their chi and get an idea of their skills such as martial arts or healing through the use of chi. With this focus, she can punch through steel or dodge a bullet although she uses other abilities in conjunction with it.

HEALING
Through manipulation of her Chi, Shiva is actually able to heal the body as easily as she can damage it with her martial arts or life energy manipulation. She can use this on herself or others. Using her knowledge of chi and Eastern healing techniques, even a broken bone can be healed in a week instead of months. She can heal a fracture in moments. She can control bleeding with the use of meditation and chi manipulation. this is not an unlimited ability and life threatening injuries would be possible for her to heal but this would leave her drained and needing to recover.MEDITATION
In Shiva's case, meditation is something that allows her to focus her chi more precisely. She has also been shown being able to slip into a meditative state while she was under attack. She can use it to control her emotions and her physical form. Through the use of meditation, she can shut off her emotions entirely, to the point they cannot be manipulated or read by an empath. Telepaths will find it impossible to read her mind although mental attacks may have an effect depending on the skill level of the psychic and if Shiva knows the attack is coming or not. She can control her physical form, able to stop bleeding through force of will, controlling her heart rate and her breathing. This is mentioned in several traits because it is a combination of chi manipulation and meditation that allows her such feats.

PRODIGY
Shiva is able to learn things almost instantaneously. If she experiences it once, she has it down. She was considered a prodigy when it came to martial arts due to her ability to catch on to the training so quickly even as a child. This has continued through her life and is why she often only needs to fight someone once to learn their abilities and use them in the future. This has led to her becoming one of, if not the, most deadly Grandmaster of martial arts on the planet.

BODY LANGUAGE
Shiva is an expert at reading body language. In combat, she can read the tiniest of muscle movements to anticipate what her opponent is going to do. This allows her an advantage as she already can be reacting, which makes it seem like she may be clairvoyant when that isn't the case. This is something other assassins in the world have tried to learn and/or teach others, wondering if it is a learned skill from birth would it make a deadlier fighter. For Shiva it is a learned skill but it is one she can teach as well should she choose. She can actually tell when someone is going to pull the trigger on a gun, allowing her to be dodging before they fire.

HEALING
Shiva has extensive knowledge of healing practices from many Eastern cultures. These can be used to help treat injuries and illnesses. When combined with her ability to manipulate life energy (chi), she can perform tasks that medical professionals would envy. She does not have to tap into her chi to be an effective healer, it just helps speed processes if she does.

LANGUAGES
Shiva is skilled in many languages, speaking fluently in each. She speaks them without obvious accent that would mark her as a foreigner. English, Spanish, Portuguese, Russian, Italian, Greek, all Eastern languages and several obscure dialects through the Far East.

MARTIAL ARTS
Shiva is considered by many to be the most skilled martial artist on the planet. She would be considered on par with Shang-Chi. She has studied many forms of martial arts, new and ancient, combining them into a lethal ability that fits her strengths perfectly. She is considereding a Grandmaster, having conquered all levels of training in multiple arts. If a new form of martial arts appears, she will find those who teach it and add their knowledge to her already formidable skill set. Pretty much if it exists, she's studied it. This includes but isn't limited to Karate, Kung Fu, Taekwondo, Judo, Stick Fighting, Kokusho, Caoeira, Lerdrit. She knows delayed kill techniques. This means she has certain strikes she knows which she can perform, but the death of the person struck is delayed up to 90 minutes after the hit happens. She has such fine control she can literally shatter a bone, have the shards embed in nerve clusters of her choosing, and cause a limb to become useless and unable to be healed by Western medicine. Her strikes can be that surgical in nature.

PHILOSOPHY
Shiva has studdied various philosophies, both Eastern and Wester, in her search for enlightenment. While there are none she truly follows to the letter, she does cherry pick aspects that she likes from a variety of sources and applies them to her life.

TEACHING
Although Shiva is not really known for it, she has quite often chosen to share her skills with others. The Question was one of the primary examples. Other heroes have also benefited from her skills, learning martial arts or specific weapons that have helped them in their own pursuits. This training is not limited to heroes. She has also trained mercenaries and soldiers when it suits her, generally when she is wanting to add to her bank account. There is no telling what is going to catch her attention, causing her to share her knowledge. It's completely on if she feels the person is worthy of gaining the knowledge. With as much as she knows in regards to combat, she hopes some day to find someone to share all her knowledge with so there is a legacy when she is gone.

WEAPONS
Shiva has trained with basically any weapon that might be found in martial arts as well as swords, axes and others. If it's bladed, she knows how to use it. If it's a firearm, she probably could use it but she couldn't care less about those. They are beneath her but it's good to have the knowledge. Blunt weapons such as tonfas and bo staffs are also something she excels at the use of. In her early years, she often used a sword but later has preferred to use only her body as a weapon. It doesn't mean she can't, or won't, use a weapon when it suits her.

LEAGUE OF ASSASSINS
From time to time, Shiva has worked for the League of Assassins. Amongst them, she is known as the Paper Monkey. This gives her access to their resources to a limited degree due to being only a part-time member so to speak. She can get information, weapons, assistance perhaps, and has had access to the Lazarus Pit in the past.

REPUTATION
Shiva is a well known martial artist in specific circles. This reputation gives a certain amount of respect at times. It also can come in hanydy to avoid confrontations if a possible opponent ralizes who they are about to start a fight with and the likely results. This reputation also makes her a sought after mercenary, her skills renowned and prices high. If one wants to hire the best, Shiva is often at the top of the list.

THE HAND
An equal opportunity mercenary, Lady Shiva has also worked with The Hand in the past. This gives her limited access to their resources due to her part-time status with them. This can include information, weapons, and people perhaps.

WEALTH
Shiva has enough money she can travel the world and afford to stay wherever she goes. This is kept in a variety of accounts around the globe, under a variety of names. She would likely be considered wealthy but she won't be flying around on private jets or the like. She can afford her weapons, homes, hotels, travel expenses and the like with no real dent in the money she keeps tucked away. She can always add to it by taking a mercenary job or three when it is convenient for her.

DEATH WISH
If asked, Shiva would deny she has a death wish. In truth, death holds a certain appeal for her. It will answers more questions about life and afterlife. She doesn't fear death and with her search for those with more knowledge to learn from, she may one day find someone who can and will kill her. When/if it happens, it will be the ultimate step for her.

EASILY BORED
Shiva gets bored with things very quickly. People, things and places rarely keep her interested for long. If there is something new to learn, she will remain until she feels she has conquered the task. As with everything, her focus can change on a whim. One moment she's interested, the next she's heading for another place to see out new experiences. It's all about holding her attention.

INFAMY
Shiva is infamous in certain circles. Where she goes, death often follows. If she challenged someone, more often than not, it is believed that she will kill her opponent. This is not always what she will do. If she feels someone is worthy, no matter if they are master or novice, she will let them live. Unfortunately, it's just anyone's guess if she will feel they are worthy or not. This can affect people's reactions to her at times.

KILLER
Shiva is a killer and would likely be considered a murderer if things were looked at closely. While she isn't officially on anyone's radar in law enforcement, she is known amongst many heroes and villains as someone who will take a life if it suits her. It isn't cold blooded, in her mind. Some people might disagree with that point when she does it just because someone insulted her. She has been both villain and hero and really falls somewhere in between but she is not hesitant to take someone's life no matter which role she is filling.
