Description:

Lucifer is a tall man with an athletic, but not muscular, physique. He has a regal, or noble look to him. Whether he is dressed to the nines, or casual, which is incredibly rare, it is always with a certain bearing of sophistication and grace. His hair, sometimes blond, other times black, is always combed to perfection. His jaw is prominent when clean shaven, and softened when he grows a light, but well kept beard.

As one gets closer to him, the perfect symmetry of his face will become clear. The man is handsome in the thousands upon thousands of dollars worth of cosmetic surgery kind of way. He might well be the most beautiful man one has ever encountered in real life. As he returns your gaze, his eyes seem to shimmer. Even those can vary, sometimes appearing blue, most often when paired with blond hair, or brown to go with the black hair.

However he presents himself, he is always impeccably dressed, favouring tailored suits that pull in areas that benefit, and soften others. From the top of his head, right on down to the souls of his shoes, he always looks like he just stepped off of a fashion runway.

History

History:

Lucifer began life as Samael, the Lightbringer, though he later settled on Lucifer Morningstar. Several other names have been applied to him, but Lucifer Morningstar is the one he chooses to be. He was created with a sense of wonder, creativity, and most importantly, the ability to question. When he and his kind were ordered to love and protect humans, he understood the ramifications. He alone seemed to hear the whispers, the stirrings, and the ill will that had be born of this edict. And he gave voice to those concerns.

Rebellions do not rise over night, nor are they ended that way, no matter what the history books would have you believe. It was a process. There were steps, a chain of events. But, there is one thing that all history books have in common. They are written by the victors. Lucifer Morningstar gave voice to the concerns of many, he played his part, he questioned, and he suffered the ultimate consequence.

Cast out of the Silver City, he was charged with ruling over Hell, a nightmarish place where many deceased humans spend an eternity, punishing themselves. Lucifer, and his underlings might assist in carrying out those punishments, but they play no part in a human going to Hell, or remaining there. They are free to leave at any time. It is their own guilt, conscience, and souls that trap them there.

Ruling over Hell is not something that Lucifer sought, but he does it as best he can, for as long as he can, but even he has his limits. He enjoys a good torture as much as the next person, but it does grow old. Every once in a while, he decides to take an extended vacation, clear his head, sow his oats, have some fun, before getting back to his work, if you can call it that. Hell continues well enough without him. It is the humans who punish themselves, after all.

He is currently on one of these vacations, having appeared about five years ago in Connecticut. Since then, he has built a life, set up a nightclub called Lux, and is enjoying himself for once. He doesn't know how long he'll remain, but for now, he's recharging his batteries and getting back in touch with Lucifer, who he is, and who he wants to be.

Personality

Personality:

Lucifer does not harry while in pursuit. He knows that the lifespan of a single human being is inconsequential (with a few notable exceptions) in the grand scheme of things. As an immortal, he has time to appreciate the journey. He would no more run across the Earth than a human would run across a department store.

Lucifer carries himself with an air of supreme confidence. He is charming, charismatic, handsome, intelligent, and witty. Lucifer is sure of success in whatever he does. No matter what obstacles are placed before him, he knows that he will overcome them.

During those exceedingly rare occasions where he fails to achieve whatever goal he's set, he demonstrates a remarkable calmness, showing more quiet amusement and curiosity, than frustration. It is a rare gift to his spirit when he gets to experience failure. He enjoys and tries to savour those moments.

Rarer still is when he unleashes his full fury. It takes a great personal attack upon himself, someone, or something he cares greatly about, to bring out the terror within. Scariest of all is the smile he shows during those events. His eyes will blaze a bright red, and he may reveal his devil face. He can be rather sadistic when brought to this stage.

As an immortal, Lucifer makes little effort to grasp the societal norms of humans. They change too frequently for him. He can be brutal in his honesty. He can be inappropriate in the extreme. To the uninitiated, he will come across as a boorish, insensitive, and arrogant man, and yet, most feel compelled to tell him their deepest and darkest secrets, which only add to their annoyance with him.

Despite his flaws, Lucifer is as loyal a companion as one is likely to find. When he chooses to care about someone, they enjoy his full protection. He is not good, per say, but he is fair. He can come across as malevolent one moment, and just another. In actuality, he is just acting based on the particulars of the situation, showing his true fairness. In that way, he is a mirror, reflecting whatever a person deserves.

And yet, deep down, way beneath his armour of confidence, Lucifer is insecure, has abandonment issues, and is especially annoyed when people blame him should something go wrong, or suggest that he made them do it. Furthermore, being accused of lying will really set him off, as he may use hyperbole while joking, whenever he says something in earnest, it is the truth. He is rather proud of this.

Another of his better traits is that he is absolutely fearless. He stood up to his father and never once showed an ounce of trepidation. If he can stand up to him, he can stand up to anyone. If he has a fear, it is that someone he cares for might be hurt in his absence. You may hurt those around him, but dad himself could not hurt him, which of course couldn't be further from the truth, as dad inflicted horrendous wounds upon his psyche.

Abilities

Angelic Physiology:
Lucifer is not human. He has the strength to effortlessly throw a large man through a brick wall, or at least 30 metres, with a one handed push. His body is indestructible, capable of withstanding explosions, poisons, and point-blank gunshots, which he describes as tickling him. His skin is unbreakable and impenetrable. He can imbibe alcohol, but cannot get drunk from it. When he is hurt by some means, usually the result of a conflict with another angelic being, he will heal incredibly fast, usually taking a day or less to be back to his lively self. He seems to have some level of super speed, able to appear and disappear in the blink of an eye. He can use this, along with his reflexes, to catch hurled objects in mid flight. When he has wings, he can fly and travel to Hell and back, though he is specifically barred from entering Heaven. He is immortal and he is an Angel.

Desire Exhibition:
Lucifer is able to lower the inhibitions of those around him, inducing them to reveal their true nature, sharing their deepest and darkest secrets, whether they want to or not. He has conscious control over this ability and he must have the subject's attention, maintaining eye contact throughout for it to be successful. Thus, he would have no effect on the blind, such as Matt Murdock.

Note: This ability shall only be used with the consent and fully fledged support of the subject in question.

Healing:
Lucifer's feathers, whether attached to him, or removed, possess great healing power. Each feather is a single use heal, but can restore someone from near death to total recovery in seconds. Should he feel bad about himself and have demonic red wings, he has no feathers to heal. However, if a feather were removed during a period where he thought well about himself, and stored in case of emergencies, it would retain its healing potential indefinitely.

Omnilingualism:
Lucifer has the ability to speak and understand all spoken human languages. This does not extend to written languages or sign languages. Dad didn't account for them when deciding what he could and could not do.

Shape-Shifting:
Lucifer usually presents himself to humans as a handsome young man with a model-like physique and facial structure. Alternatively, he can reveal his, for want of a better term, celestial self. How he appears when showing that second form depends entirely on his current opinion of himself. When he considers himself a monster, he will have a devil face, red skin, with burns and scars all over his body.

His wings may even appear to be demonic. When he feels better about himself, he will appear more in keeping with the popular cultural view of Angels, white feathery wings, and a certain glow about him. He has from time to time removed these wings, and they can be restored. It's complicated, like all daddy issues.

When he does have wings, they enable him to fly, both on the Earthly plane, and to and from Hell. While in Hell, he can bring back a soul and place it into a recently deceased body. That soul will continue to inhabit that body until said body dies once more.

Telekinesis:

Lucifer seems to have limited telekinesis. This may be the result of his nature as an angel, or simple magic. He most frequently uses it to levitate and spin a coin with the gesture of a hand or finger. It does not appear to have much use beyond that of a simple parlour trick.

Skills

Bartending:
Lucifer is an accomplished mixologist and a good listener. He serves as a secondary bartender at Lux, since he rather enjoys mixing cocktails, pouring drinks, and offering a friendly ear. He doesn't make a habit of it, rarely taking actual shifts. But he has no problem telling whoever's on duty to take an early break, especially during the club's quieter moments.

Combat:
Lucifer is an accomplished fighter. Few can stand against one such as him, but even if he were mortal, a mere human, he would still be an accomplished fighter. His enemies, by and large, are like him, beings of greater power, and so fighting prowess continues to play a major role in his existence. His moves are predominantly quick and subtle, almost as if he were not fighting at all. Rather than go for the flashy moves, he would prefer to pinpoint his opponent's weaknesses and use them to press his advantage. Prolonging a conflict is reserved for those he truly despises. In most instances, he will seek to end hostilities as quickly as possible. However, he prefers not to end their lives in most instances.

Deductive Analysis:
Lucifer may not have started out as one, but through his civilian consultation, others experiences, and innate skills, has become a highly skilled detective. He had all the tools before; he just had to have a reason to put it together. Being creative, intelligent, and observant can take one a long way in the world of deductive analysis.

Escapism:
Lucifer cannot easily be restrained. He can get out of, or into, locked places, escape handcuffs, and virtually any restraint. He achieves this through a variety of methods, from practical skill - he has a lot of experience with restraints - to simply using his powers. However he does it, he's good, and he's quick at it.

Flight:
Lucifer has been able to fly since his creation, but over time, he has become incredibly adept at it. When he has his wings, which isn't as often as one would think, he is a nimble, impressive flier, able to fight in the air, or just have fun with it. Carrying a passenger does nothing to negate his skill in this regard, though it does add something more to concentrate on, depending on how many and how he might be carrying them. Carrying someone in his arms is a lot easier than holding two people up, each with one hand. It's also a lot more comfortable for the person to be in his arms.

Intellectus:
Lucifer is not omniscient, but he is well versed on a wide variety of subjects. He cares not for human sciences, beakers, microscopes, swabs, and other such things are amusing curiosities to him, but when it comes to knowledge, experience, and wisdom, he is profoundly capable. If anything, his problem is that he lacks direction. He pursues whatever catches his fancy. And over his life, a great many things have caught his fancy.

Manipulation:
Lucifer is a master of deception and manipulation. Long ago he learned that he could be honest, at all times, and still convince others to do whatever it was he wanted them to, through the careful application of word choice, or otherwise coercion. He is a great judge of character, able to use his brilliance to size them up, and use whatever technique, while still remaining truthful, it takes to get them to do what he wants. In some cases, he will manipulate people by convincing them that he wants the opposite of what he actually desires. In that way, he can be highly unpredictable.

Occult:
Lucifer can be explained as an occult being. He is sufficiently advanced that there really is no other way for a human to describe him. He is also skilled in its use. While not his main interest, if anything, he holds great disinterest for the subject, but he can, has, and will make use of his experience and talent should the need arise. Given sufficient time, resources, and above all, inclination, he can replicate virtually magical effect that a human sorcerer could. What he can't do is replicate it in a pinch. He is sorely out of practice. It just doesn't interest him at this point.

Performance:

Lucifer is a master pianist and a gifted singer. He can play other instruments, but he rarely does so. There is just something to the piano that sets it apart from all other instruments. Had he the desire, he could become a concert pianist, or a rock star. He has the abilities, and certainly enjoys the adulation, but that's not what he wants to do with his existence. It would be too regimented anyway. He plays, and or sings, when he wants, where he wants, and for as long as he wants. He's free.

Esoterica:
Lucifer cares not for material things. He does not seek out magic tomes, relics, weapons, or armours, but in his long existence, he has come to possess many such items. Some he has destroyed, as they were too dangerous to fall into mortal, or immortal, hands. Some he has used. Most end up on bookshelves, as paperweights, or locked away in some vault. When he can remember that he has these things, they can prove invaluable. But most of the time they are merely trinkets to hand out to the worthy.

Favours:
Lucifer often performs favours with no expectation of anything in return. Few believe him when he says that there are no strings attached to these favours. They will invariably assign debts of their own making, and endeavour to repay him out of their own guilt. But this is not something he binds them to. These contracts, if you will, are entirely of their own making, and enforced only by their moral fibre. They feel compelled to repay him, and so attempt to do so, often at great cost to themselves. But it is neither requested, nor required.

Fortune:
For one such as Lucifer Morningstar, amassing wealth is simplicity itself. People hand over money and valuables in exchange for favours, not that either is required. Sometimes a favour can be a well placed word in the right ear, sound advice, or simply a smile to brighten ones day. Other times they are far more involved. But money is easy for Lucifer to acquire, and once he has it, he can make it grow. There is no trick to it, nothing supernatural, just one very skilled, very smooth, and very sophisticated man, using the system to its fullest.

Hell:
The devil has a very strong connection to Hell, it's an extension of him in a way. When he is present there, it responds innately to his every whim. There are other gods that have power in pieces of it, or have sections of souls that are under their purview: that is absolutely the case. Lucifer has never minded that, and encourages it. The nature of demons and death gods is to fight over the scraps and draw territory lines. Hell itself, the specific location, though, does follow Lucifer's design. It is similar to humans conquering a piece of land, and splitting up who owns which part, but there's still a higher power that COULD put all of that under sea level. Lucifer is that thing, though he doesn't generally showcase it. It's better to have the others busy among themselves. It does mean that he can overrule in certain areas, and is entirely impervious to any attacks in Hell itself. Outside of Hell is another story entirely. Additionally, he doesn't 'rule' hell when he isn't there. Whoever is top demon or god, when Lucifer is away, can do what they want: except, of course, to actually keep the crown if Lucifer comes back.

Lux:
Lucifer owns an upscale nightclub called Lux after the scientific measurement of illuminance and luminous emittance, a tongue in cheek reference to himself. During each prolonged visit to the mortal plane, he establishes a Lux, or something equivalent to the era. No matter where he sets one up, the beautiful people flock to it, as it is always stocked with the best alcohols, music, entertainment, and atmosphere. It is a safe place for all manner of beings to eat, drink, and otherwise relax in relative security. It can be a hotspot for professional mercenaries and criminal contractors, providing they behave themselves. Jobs can be solicited in person, or posted anonymously. Lucifer is good at pairing 'challenges' with 'opportunities', as it were.

Occult:
Lucifer Morningstar is, by human understanding, a magical being. His mere presence carries tremendous weight in the mystical world, and his reputation in this one instance, actually benefits him greatly. No matter what they may think of him, his name carries weight, it opens doors, or gets them bolted shut, but it creates a reaction. More than that, he has power that he rarely calls upon. It would not be sporting of him.

Sword:

Once upon a time, Lucifer used a sword to rain fire and brimstone down upon his enemies. Constructed of divine energy, it can absorb energy blasts into itself, store them, and unleash them at a time of his choosing, sometimes immediately, other times significantly later. It can slice through virtually any material, but is especially effective against celestial and infernal beings, behaving similarly to the Ghost Rider's Chain in that way. The sword does have one significant drawback. It can only affect those who deserve it. For that, and simply because he's largely outgrown it, he rarely makes use of his sword. They're so 19th century.

Weaknesses

Blessed:
Humans that have been blessed by divine hands are insensitive to Lucifer's preternatural charms and negate his invulnerability. Some examples would be the Black Panther, Chloe Decker, Shazam, the Slayer, and Thunderstrike. Curiously, his charms are negated, but not his invulnerability, when in the vicinity of a divine being. For whatever reason, dad decided that only ordinary humans that had been blessed by himself, Odin, Zeus, and other Pantheon leaders, would have this effect on him. Lucifer is currently unaware of this, and once he is, will need quite a bit of trial and error to figure it out.

Demonic Blades:
Lucifer cannot be harmed by the weapons of man, but those forged by demons (and Angels for that matter) can harm him, ranging from a simple prick to fatal injury. Demonic blades are few and far between on Earth, just as actual demons are. Many demonic beings, such as vampires and werewolves, exist on Earth, but they are not truly demonic, instead only sharing a small taste of what an actual demon's power is.

Discord:
Lucifer led a rebellion against dad, and many followed him. More did not. It failed. A lot of beings on both sides bear him a grudge for his role as the instigator. History is written by the victors, and cause of the rebellion was placed solely at his feet. Even the fallen who have chosen to follow him, resent him. He occupies a unique position within the Pantheon Assembly.

Down To Your Level:
Lucifer is a higher being. When interacting with mere mortals, he must collapse himself, everything that he is, into a corporeal body, so that he can be perceived as one of them. He is not and he never will be. But it must be done in order to experience Earth, Midgard, the mortal plane, or whatever you wish to call it. While there, he limits himself. Speaking honestly is one thing, but revealing his true power is another matter entirely. They say the greatest trick he ever pulled was convincing the world that he doesn't exist. The truth is he's never done that. They convinced themselves. He'll happily explain to anyone who asks. They rarely ask.

Exorcism:
There exists a ritual whereby a being such as Lucifer can be sent back to Hell. The ritual has almost been lost to time, but there still exits a scant few with knowledge of how to perform it. How long the being must remain in Hell depends upon the power of the being in question, the person performing the exorcism, and how well they actually perform it, what location it takes place, and what resources were used. As is often the case, he is in the details.

Maverick:
Lucifer marches to the beat of a different drum. He's never been content to follow the rules, to submit to authority figures, and he will passionately argue for free will until he's red in the face, unless of course he starts the conversation that way. He has no interest in the people who worship him. He has a scant few friends, whom he cherishes, so long as they do not try to press him into service. That never ends well. He does what he wants, when he wants, for as long as he wants.

Notorious:
Many of the Earth's religions are based upon tales of him and his family, committed to words, translated and transcribed, again and again. After playing telephone for a few millennia, it's a wonder anything in those books resembles actual events. While everyone has heard some variation of him, those with religious fervour are far more likely to react less than favourably towards him. Disbelief may be common, but given any kind of demonstration, reactions are rarely what one could describe as subtle.

Pantheon Assembly:
Many members of the Pantheon Assembly can harm Lucifer, such as the Gods of Asgard, Mount Olympus, his fellow Angels, and an assortment of others. Lesser beings, Frost Giants for example, are treated in much the same way as demons like Mazikeen.

Reputation:
Lucifer is both biblical and a pop culture reference. His reputation, however misguided it may be, precedes him. His name is synonymous with evil. While most do not believe he is who claims to be, innumerable atrocities, both great and small, are attributed to him. Those who do know him may not like him for actions he genuinely committed. He has enemies. Any being of sufficient age will accumulate them, no matter what their disposition. But most of the time, he is a victim of his reputation. It's become rather irksome for him. By all means, blame him for his actions, but don't blame him for yours.

Self Actualisation:
Lucifer is subject to his own judgement, just as mortals are. He is capable of psychosomatically altering his own state based on his own opinion of himself. After he was cast out of the Silver City, his self-loathing caused him to develop a monstrous form. Should he no longer consider himself a monster, he would lose the ability to show his devil face and regain his wings. Because of his innate power, his psychosomatic judgement is powerful enough to affect everyone in his vicinity should he feel too strongly in either direction.

Truthful:
Lucifer does not lie. Whether it is by habit or design, Lucifer does not lie. He can obfuscate, bewilder, and confuse someone with his wordplay, he rather enjoys toying with certain people, but his words are never factually incorrect, unless of course he was operating under a false impression. He is not infallible, that's dad's job. Lucifer can only be as truthful as his understanding is at the time.

Word of Honour:

When Lucifer reaches a verbal agreement with someone, he treats it as a solemn promise, and he is, despite all of his innumerable faults, a being of his word. He stands by what he says. It may not be exactly what the other party thought or expected, he is in the details after all, but he will live up to the letter of any agreement, no matter how demanding it may be.
