Profile

Hailing from northern Connecticut, the daughter of a wildly sucsessful surgeon, Madeline "Madge" Calhoun is a clever girl with a bright future ahead of her. After skipping a couple grades and graduating early, she arrived in Metropolis to do two things: work Museums and go to college... and she's got two years left of college to contend with. Generally warm, caring, and brightly funny (if very geeky), she's the perfect companion for pub trivia night -- or if you have a "special project" that might require extra access to the Global History Museum.

Description

Description:

A young woman either wearing casual jeans, sneakers and a sweatshirt, or in her work clothes -- often a dark colored skirt, gray shirt and dark vest with her credentials on it, wearing pumps. She has blonde, slightly curly hair that hangs to her shoulders. Beneath finely arched brows, blue eyes the color of washed-out denim peer out. She has an upturned, button nose, rounded cheeks, and lips that always seem to want to curl up into a smile.

She's not a model; she has a thickness about her middle of someone who appreciates food, but keeps fit.

History

History I:

The sixth child of Dr. Peter Calhoun and originally hailing from northern coastal Connecticut, Madeline Calhoun was considered quite bright for her age. She was a relatively spoiled girl -- had horseriding lessons, developed a love of roller skating and spent her time patronizing one of the last roller rinks in the area. She skipped third and sixth grade and ended up being a freshman at twelve in a prestigious private highschool in the area, excelling in History and English before graduating early (thanks to summer courses), and pursuing education at a small college in Metropolis.

Living in Metropolis has its perks (it has some great views, pretty clean city, the whole 'Superman' thing), and some bad parts (... the whole 'Superman' thing...), but she gets along. As a favor to her father, the board of the Global History Museum (with the help of a generous donation) created a position for Madge, gave her an office with some servers, and began the Digital Museum Network for the purposes of sharing research materials with schools, universities and other Museum Research departments.

Personality

Personality:

Madge is a free-spirited (if slightly naive) young woman who enjoys research, working with computers, and videogames. She has a love of history and is knowledgable on various historical subjects, enjoys researching history and writing scholarly papers -- all skills that helped her skip two grades in school, graduate early, and progress from her small town outside of Hartford to Metropolis, where she enjoys the Big City Life like 'taking the metro' and 'biking to the market'. And hasn't gotten mugged *once* since she got there.

She is generally the helpful, friendly sort, loves color and fun fashion, and strongly dislikes bad hygene.

She will generally put up with an awful lot of people talking themselves into a corner, with a smile, and is the type to agree with the person just to get them to leave her alone.

Skills

Languages:
With her interest in ancient tongues and comfort level working in the Global History museum, Madge is capable of reading Ancient Egyptian Heiroglyphs, ancient Greek and Latin, and speaks English, Spanish and French -- for 'not quite dead' languages.

Research:
Are you looking for a tablet on ancient Sumerian fertility gods? An instruction book on 15th century cookery from the North of Spain? The *entire* catalogue of rare musical manuscripts on a thumb drive? You've come to the right person. If Madge doesn't know where it is, he's bound to have an idea on where to find it in the cross-museum networks.

Roller Skating:
You would never know it, but Madge used to be a 1980's enthusiast, loves 80's beats and ridiculous Nu Wave, 80's movies -- and Rollerskating. She participated in rollerskating tournements in her area, and has taken home silver and bronze medals for regional competitions. She's got a grand sense of balance and can do a lot of tricks on her skates.

Technologic Curation:

As the technological curator for the museum, Madge also maintains her own server cluster and redundancies for storage of the digital curation, accessable like a library for Museum members, schools, and people who ask really nicely for a password.

Resources

Ass't Curator:
Madge is the assistant digital curator for the Metropolis Global History Museum (which ultimately means she does an awful lot of scanning of documents, handling of old books, and taking pictures). She is largely the handler of their digital archive system and handles requests from afar for photos of various items for study. There is a modest salary that enables her to go to school part-time and maintain a small apartment.

Cross-Museum Networking:
A project for digital curators is the scanning and online cataloguing of various non-exhibitable pieces for museums, be it scans of manuscrips that are too decayed and not important enough for display but could contribute to reconstructing other projects. As an assistant curator, Madge has access to all areas of the museum.

Family Resources:
She might not have Stark or Snow money, but in a pinch if the ends aren't meeting or there is something she considers a 'need', Madge can tap her family connections (and trust fund) to the tune of $10K in emergencies.

Loft Apartment:

Madge lives in a revitalized urban commercial loft, with tons of light. The apartment has a security system at the front door, a big space broken up by dividers, a kitchenette and a claw-foot tub.

Weaknesses

Allergy:
Madge is allergic to poison ivy, mangos and cashews. The former will result in an emergency room visit and rounds of medication, and if she breathes in the oil from it her lungs can blister. The latter two will cause distinct discomfort and an unpleasant, itchy rash along her stomach.

Near-Sighted:
Anything further than her outstretched hand, Madge can't see very well. She needs glasses to drive or see distances.

Only Human:

Madge is a human. There is a limited amount of temperature range she can thrive in, she only capable of lifting about a hundred pounds (straining), can only run so fast -- is vaguely fragile, in a sense.
