Description:

Before you is a towering green skinned male humanoid with an obvious alien appearance. His face is oddly proportioned, with a heavy brow, and deep set eyes. His eyes glow crimson in color, no iris or pupil evident, an inner light that brings an intensity to his gaze. First glance it is easy to notice the bald feature of his head, but a second glance shows that he is completely hairless. His face is flat with no sharpness to the bones on the brow or cheek, and the nose, wide and flat is framed by a square and strong jaw. Enormous shoulders and neck similar to a prized bull hint at great physical strength. His limbs are similarly heavy with muscle, his hands and wrists are large and thick even for his size. The clear blue eyes carry a mirth, and joy for life that is hard to miss.

His costume is primarily black, with red accents, and a large red belt. There are x-shaped straps that run up from his belt to cross his chest. He has two shoulder guards that run to midway down his arm. There is also a blue cape that is fastened by gold clips.

History

History:

Billions of years in the past an extremely dangerous race of beings called "the Burning" caused large fires to help themselves reproduce asexually. In order to prevent the Burning from destroying much of the universe, the Guardians of the Universe split the species into the Green Martians and the White Martians, changed their reproductive behavior, and instilled in them a fear of fire.'

Roughly one million years ago, Mars (called Ma'aleca'andra by the inhabitants) was a living world, populated by a race of humanoids divided by skin color. The Green Martians known as M'yrnn and Sha'sheen gave birth to twin sons. The bearing of twins was uncommon among the Martian culture, and as such, the first of the twins was named J'onn J'onzz, whose name means "Light to the Light." J'onn's brother, however, was born a mutant, bereft of a Martian's innate ability to communicate telepathically. He was named Ma'alefa'ak, whose name means "Darkness in the Heart."

Years passed, and J'onn's brother Ma'alefa'ak grew to despise everything about Martian culture. In an ambitious endeavor to commit full-scale genocide against his own people, as well as make it look like his brother caused it, he engineered a contagious virus known as H'ronmeer's Curse. The virus would react to telepathic energy and carried from one Martian to the next whenever they elected to use their psionic powers. However, before he could implement his plan, the populace received a psychic warning, which the government perceived as a threat and recruited several of its people, including a young newly trained Manhunter J'onn J'onzz to investigate.

While on their mission, his Ma'alefa'ak unveiled a double-cross, killing all of the Manhunters except J'onzz and then used their blood for a magic ritual that super-empowered J'onn - permanently, against his will. Ma'alefa'ak disappeared after the ceremony, disappointed that his ritual did not cause the havoc he had hoped for, but ultimately would lead to his own demise. J'onn would continue hunting for his brother Ma'alefa'ak, and discovered a monster - the cause of the psychic warning that had sent him on the mission in the first place. Taking the shape of J'onn J'onzz's, the monster explained that it was the embodiment of the dying Martian biosphere, trying to warn the populace to help it. However, the embodiment decreed that what he had seen of the populace, specifically his brother, showed they were unworthy, and Mars and the Martians died were sentenced to death.

A plague responded to the Martian's innate fear of fire, causing them psychosomatic stress so intense, that their bodies and minds would literally burst into flame. J'onn was anguished as he watched his family burning to death before his very eyes. The trauma of the event shattered his psyche, and nearly drove him mad. The entity ended up throwing J'onn to Earth, where he lost himself in an infinity of identities before finally, one million years later, he attempted to rebuild his shattered psyche to become a hero once again.

The last two decades on Earth J'onn has spent familiarizing himself with the new planet he was on. He had vague memories of his past, but given the psychic shock he experienced there were vast gaps in what he remembered. He learned about these people, watching them change, and watching them adjust to the changes through time. Not long ago, to him at least, he met another alien on Earth known as Superman. Between Kal-El, and other Heroes they created a League to help protect the new Planet they called home.

Personality:

J'onn appears to have a cold and alien personality on first interacting with most humans. Over time people learn that it is more a stoic demeanor. He has very restricted emotional expressions. J'onn typically acts as the voice of reason, and is one of the wisest leaders within the hero community, along with Batman and Superman.

Despite his cold exterior, J'onn is one of the kindest and most noble heroes operating on earth. J'onn has demonstrated enormous willpower, as evidenced by his ability to retain his sanity after the death of his race. He has a subtle sense of humor and an affinity for Oreo cookies.

Extra Sensory Perception:
J'onn possesses nine different senses from his Martian physiology. He has increased standard senses of Smell, Sight, Tough, Hearing, and Taste. One of his addition senses function as a type of precognitive ability, warning him of danger or the intent of danger on him. He is capable of sensing motion in an area around him out to half a mile. He is able to sense the emotional state of individuals via a form of empathy. He can sense the presence of various radiations out to a mile.

Flight:
J'onn flies by manipulation of gravitons manipulation of magnetic fields and complete control of his molecular movement via his telekinetic ability. These combine to give him the ability to fly great distances with almost no fatigue and at incredible speeds. J'onn can fly in space with no difficulty, and in space he can fly at speeds approaching lightspeed. It is possible with further refinement of his psionic powers he could develop the ability to create wormholes to further enhance his space travel capability. J'onn can fly at speeds exceeding the escape velocity of earth (7 miles per second) under his own power with almost no fatigue.

Invisibility:
J'onn can cause the biopolymers in his body to lose their ability to reflect light, rendering him invisible to normal light and human sight. With more increased concentration, he can render himself completely invisible along the electromagnetic spectrum, including the infrared, thermal, and the ranges of the spectrum. This invisibility does not affect any other sense and he could still be detected by touch, smell, or hearing.

Martian Physiology:
J'onn's powers come from his alien physiology. Born on Mars over at least a millennium ago, from a super advanced civilization, boasting advanced technology and genetic modifications over its people, J'onn is a genetically modified being, as well as a mystical ceremony that enhanced his capabilities, with incredible powers stemming from the changes made in his body. The Martian's physiology is composed of a complex molecular chain that resembles polymer bonds but with the ability to be altered at will. J'onn can change his mass, color, relative shape, imitating even clothing if desired. The biopolymer is extremely flexible, durable, incredibly strong for a biological material and self-sustaining. J'onn doesn't actually need to eat or drink, but he has been seen consuming food, particularly Oreos a brand of cookies.

Martian Vision:
J'onn's special physiology also provides various modifications to his sight. J'onn has the ability to see into other spectrums of light, including electro-magnetic, infrared, ultraviolet, and thermal. He also has the ability not just to telescope his vision for long range, but to see down to the sub-atomic level.

Mayavana:
One of the most prized abilities of the Martians is Mayavana. It is the ability to reach into another mind and create a mental reality as real as any normal reality. The strain of Mayavana is such that it can only be used once in a lifetime, and so is normally used on the one that a Martian loves the most.

Phasing:
J'onn can phase through most types of solid matter. An aspect of his density control is shifting his mass out of vibrational phase with other objects. J'onn does this by altering the density of his biopolymers, by decreasing the molecular density of his body to such a degree that he loosens the bonds within his biopolymers, and making him less substantial than solid matter. Since this is in-part tied to his psionic abilities it will also work against other psioinic fields, but requires a significant amount of concentration. This will work for all Earth, Extraterrestrial, and Magical materials. It has yet to be tested against magical force fields, or multidimensional fields.

Regeneration:
J'onn has developed amazing regenerative capabilities with us unique physiology. As long as there is some component molecules left of the Martian, given enough time, it is possible for him to reconstruct his entire physiology. Small wounds up to minor missing part body parts (hands, eyes, feet, etc) can be regrown in seconds. Larger missing body parts or significant organs (arms, legs, lungs, etc) will take minutes.

Shape Shifting:
Arguably one of the most versatile powers possessed by J'onn is the ability to shape-shift. He is able to control the molecular structure of his body's biopolymers and manipulate them into any construct he desires. He can form clothing and weapons with non-moving or non-functioning parts. There does not seem to be any limit to the physical changes in representing people that J'onn can imitate. His ability to imitate people and their mannerisms is tied to his telepathic abilities, and total control of his nervous system. He is capable of changing his size and shape from something similar in size to a common house fly and as large as a skyscraper.

Super Durability:
The biomorphic structure of J'onn's body allows him to absorb almost all kinetic energies such as high caliber bullets, shrapnel, or flying debris easily. He can harden his biopolymers by rebinding them, increasing their density, and increase their durability to the point where he is stronger than any known Earth material. His unique Martian physiology allow him to traverse the harsh environment of space with no ill effect. His shape shifting allows him to deal with radiations of all kind (See Weakness on Fire). In addition, J'onn's unique immune system protects him from all toxins and diseases (meaning he is unable to succumb to any earthly poison, disease or infection).

Super Senses:
J'onn possesses vastly enhanced senses. He is able to hear almost any sound at any decibel, pitch, and frequency. He has enough control to block out ambient sounds to focus on a specific source/frequency. The range of his eyesight is also far greater than that of a human being. He is able to detect a single person from hundreds of miles in the air and above cloud level. His sense of smell is greatly increased with the ability to determine the component ingredients in food, and identifying creatures by scent alone.

Super Speed:
Either through flight or natural movement, J'onn can maintain speed and demonstrates reflexes far in excess to that of most metahumans, and for indefinite periods. Like the power of flight, this is accomplished by manipulating the magnetic fields of energy surrounding his body, as well as ambient gravitational particles. Traditionally, J'onn only uses his superhuman speed while flying. He can process thoughts, move, and react at super speed as well. J'onn has also is fast enough to comfortably catch bullets and other exceedingly fast projectiles with his hands or his telekinetic capabilities.

Super Stamina:
J'onn's endurance is just as formidable as his strength and durability. He can operate under extreme conditions for an indeterminate period of time without showing signs of fatigue. This is apparent in his lack of need for eating or drinking. His biomorphic ability allows him to easily remove any toxins in the body that build up in response to fatigue.

Super Strength:
J'onn is one of the strongest beings currently known. The Martian's superhuman strength comes from his biomorphic structure formed from immensely strong and complex molecular chains, augmented with his psionic and telekinetic abilities allowing him to lift incredible weights without these weights crumbling under the stress. J'onn is capable of lifting incredibly large and awkward objects because of this unique mix of capabilities. By modifying the density of these biopolymers, J'onn can make himself stronger by forcing them into tighter bundles, and he can increase his mass/size to provide himself better leverage as necessary. While at a resting state he can lift 100 tons without much effort.

Telekinesis:
J'onn is capable of psychokinetically projecting force and manipulating matter, both in large quantities and in minute detail. He can manipulate over 100 tons of mass with almost no fatigue, and strike with similar levels of force without significant strain. His fine control aspect allows him to manipulate at the sub-atomic level. J'onn can also shield himself and others from attacks with the same level of power. However each individual he shields lowers the overall durability of each shield. J'onn also can propel others in flight, protecting them from the gravitational forces, and providing a safe environment for travel in extreme environments.

Telepathy:

J'onn is one of the most powerful telepaths on the planet, and is one of the strongest telepathic beings in the Universe. He is capable of reading the subconscious mind. He is able to read minds over great distances and is capable of scanning the mind of every person on Earth in a short period of time. This telepathy extends to distances as far away as the moon. J'onn currently does not know whether there is any limit to the number of people he can be attuned. In addition to reading minds, J'onn has a multitude of other telepathic capabilities, one of which allows him to literally reprogram the mind of a subject into believing whatever he wants them to. He can use this ability to help subjects forget things that he does not want them to remember as well as set up post-hypnotic suggestions.

Illusion - Sometimes called "illusion projection", is the ability J'onn uses to create illusions in reality with no visual boundaries. These illusions can be generated from the J'onn's mind or from the target's. These illusions can affect more than just sight, they can resemble touch, smell taste and hearing.

Possession - The ability for J'onn to take physical and mental control over another living being. Unlike Mind Control, this power displaces J'onn's own consciousness into a target body. The affected individual's actual consciousness is subsumed in favor of the more dominant mind or spirit.

Astral Projection - This ability allows J'onn to bring their "astral body" out of their "physical body" in order to do a number of things. J'onn uses this body to interact with Astral Entities, or perform activities on the Astral Dimension. The Astral Body itself, sometimes called the soul, can do a number of different abilities to include possession, flight and dimensional travel. J'onn has yet to fully explore this particular ability.

Mind Control - J'onn can control other beings mind's. Insane minds or Strong Telepaths seem to be the only minds he has some trouble controlling. When he controls the mind he's capable of implanting suggestions, perform activities, or remove recent events. With a greater degree of concentration, he can remove or suppress older memories.

Telepathic Relay - Otherwise known as a telepathic link. J'onn is able to use his telepathic prowess as a relay station for a group of minds, who can then "speak" to each other through him. This relaying ability is limited to the same range as the J'onn's normal telepathic range.

Telepathic Assault - J'onn can also use his telepathic abilities in an offensive manner. He has the ability to cause mental shutdown in a target using his psionic powers. J'onn does not use this power often due to the invasive nature and harshness of such a telepathic attack.

Telepathic Detection - J'onn can use the mental signature of a being to track it, and can detect life forms by their empathic as well as telepathic signatures. He can detect whether a being is intelligent or not, and can communicate with it empathically if it does not have a communication-driven frame of reference with which normal telepathy may function.

Genius Intellect:
Jâonn possesses highly advanced reasoning and logic capabilities, as well as immense information retention, and uses them to great effect. His mental acuity allows him to pick up languages, subjects, perform scientific research, and present these new subjects with amazing speed. Jâonnâs particularly astute reasoning capabilities and telepathic powers allow gives him an edge in dealing with humans of diverse governments, cultures and religions.

Investigation:
J'onn has been trained and developed the ability to perform Investigation and Analysis. J'onn has the ability to use deductive reasoning to come to a conclusion. In most cases, this skill is applied to the arena of criminal investigation.

Martian Martial Arts:
J'onn has been formally trained in the Martian form of Hand to Hand combat. This is a combination of using his physical abilities, telekinetic power, and their shape shifting ability. He is considered well trained in this Art, capable of performing unarmed as well as with bladed or blunt weapons, which he can shift from his own body.

Meditation:
J'onn practices an Ancient Martian tradition of focusing his mind. He uses this to refresh his mental state, much like sleep does for Humans, and quick way to replenish is psionic energy. J'onn also uses the meditation to relax and give control to his stress, anger or settle his psychological state. Finally, J'onn reflects on important thoughts and memories, deliberate plans and strategies, and review his experiences on a philosophical level.

Multilingual:

J'onn possesses the ability to quickly learn to speak, read, and write languages at a lightning pace. This is a combination of his Genius Intellect and Telepathic abilities. For Human languages he's capable of learning it in a matter of minutes to the degree of a local. More complex alien languages may take him hours or days to pick up. More complex machine driven entities language will take longer for him to comprehend. At this point he is considered capable of speaking all the major languages on Earth.

Justice League:
As a founding member of the Justice League, J'onn can call upon the members and the resources of one metahumans most powerful organizations. There is the advanced technology he's helped build in the Watchtower, and the Hall of Justice. The public respect of the World for the good that the Justice League has done.

Kuru Pendant:

A Kuru pendant represents a Martian's most intimate connection with his or her heritage. When a young Martian passes a rite of passage known as the Journey of Souls, a Martian elder awards them a Kuru pendant. The pendant maintains the genealogical memory of all who came before, and the recipient telepathically interacts with the medallion in order to develop a greater understanding of Martian lore and culture.

The Kuru pendant maintains comprehensive information relating to the longstanding oral Martian tradition. By using telepathy, a Martian can interface with the pendant and gain access to all of its store knowledge. As such, the Martian can also telepathically add information into the stored database. J'onn has been using this over the last two decades to help rebuild his knowledge of his Heritage, Species, and try to put together what happened to his Planet.

Alien Appearance:
J'onn's true form would be absolutely horrific to the Human populace. His Martian form would induce fear in any human that see's it, and would cause an impact on his view from the Human World. Even in his disguised human form he has not been able to build the same repertoire with the World as other aliens that look similar to humans.

Amnesia:
J'onn currently has a severe form of amnesia based on an incredible shock to his psyche. The trauma of the event that shattered his psyche nearly drove him mad. J'onn he lost himself in an infinity of identities, and has attempted to rebuild his shattered psyche. He has vague memories of his past, but vast gaps remain that he's trying to rebuild.

Enemies:
With powerful friends comes just as powerful Enemies. J'onn has supported the Justice League as a founding member, and during that time has developed a friendship with the other founding members. Their enemies has become his enemies, and he never hesitates to come to their aid. He has crossed some of the most powerful people on the Earth and in the Universe.

Fear of Fire:
J'onn has a psychosomatic fear of fire. The Guardians of the Universe have built in a fear of fire when they first confronted the Burned (the original Martians). Exposure to fire causes him to mentally lose control of his powers. In the case of extreme or magical fire, he will likely even lose control over his biomorphic form. When he loses control of his powers or his form he becomes more vulnerable to damage. Over prolonged exposure this could cause significant damage to Jâonn. It should be understood that the actual exposure to Fire induces the immense fear, and not exposure to Great Heat or Plasma or similar Energy/Radiation that have similar effects to Fire.

Oreo Addiction:

Something within J'onn's physiology makes him addicted to the chemicals used in the Earth snack Oreos. J'onn is capable of holding back his need for Oreos most of the time, but when under high levels of stress he won't be able to control his needs. If he eats more than a pack of Oreos in one sitting he will have a hard time resisting any cookies in sight. Withdrawal symptoms include violent bursts of rage and loss of intellect until he has at least one Oreo.
