From United Heroes MUSH
Jump to navigation Jump to search

Earth-1999 bears many features of our reality. It is populated by the same countries, personalities, and historical events. However, it also contains many fictional additions that have shaped this world historically, and developmentally. Super-advanced technology, and the interference of non-human races, set the stage for a science fiction environment. A multinational policing agency in the form of S.H.I.E.L.D. was been created as a result of these additions. A select few people have also appeared who are more than human, creating the world of United Heroes.

We draw inspiration from a variety of sources, both in terms of publishers; such as Dark Horse, DC, IDW, Marvel, among others; and the means, be it animation, book, comic, film, television, video game, or anything else that comes to mind. To put it simply, Superman has appeared in a lot of works. Generally speaking, they all have their own universe, though many things overlap. We are neither beholden to any of these, while at the same time we do not ignore them.

We are inspired by the previous depictions. We are a new universe, specifically Earth-1999, where many things that transpired in the source materials happened, while others did not. We have no set game canon except that which is entailed in our timeline, sheets, and role-play.

As with any new adaptation of an existing source material, we expect that people will take the core of that character, keeping to that which makes it great, while allowing some freedom to grow and change. Sometimes this will mean changing the Vietnam War as an origin for Iron Man to a conflict in the Middle East, Mazikhandar in this case, while other times it may be putting characters in situations that could never arise in their respective source materials, like having Aquaman and the Sub-Mariner vie for control of Earth's oceans.

What's important is that the character remains recognisable - we do not expect to see a gun-toting Batman, an Irish Bullseye, a top hat and tails wearing Deadshot, a green skinned Mandarin, or other portrayals vastly different to the bulk of the source material. It can be difficult to define, but like all great art, you will know it when you see it.
