Description:

Standing at 5'8" this taller than average young woman cuts a striking appearance. Ashen white-blonde hair would fall past her shoulders and perhaps her mid back were she to let it down. Other than a few wisps about her face, however, it is often pulled up into a loose bun at the nape of her neck. Her complexion is pale. It is, however, the healthy tone of one who has been in the sun, earning many light freckles across the slender bridge of her nose and across her cheeks, while still not bringing much of a tan at all to her coloring. Expressive brows arch over vibrant emerald green eyes often alight with emotion of some kind. Just below her left eye is a deep slash of a scar that follows the underside of the cheek bone and curves slight back toward her ear. As wide as a sword blade, the scar has healed but not yet whitened or faded as if it were not many years old. Soft rose colored lips glisten with only a hint of gloss to protect them from the weather.

Her form is lithe but strong. Sturdy shoulders are straight and lead to strong arms and slender dexterous hands. The body of a dancer certainly, or perhaps a gymnast were she not as tall as she is. Her figure and waist still curve and dips in undeniably feminine form before swelling back out to equally feminine hips and long legs toned from many hours of physical exercise.

History

History 1:

To say Petra's history was complicated would be a wild understatement, even before it had grown by many centuries. Born in the year 1252, the daughter of a noble in a time when kingdoms and warlords were ever in flux. An heiress to a powerful bloodline of sorcery long lapsed into little more than story and myth, her world was shattered as a child when a conquering army swept through her home and she was forced to flee. Travelling and barely surviving, fate intersected her life with that of a hunter of monsters, a man on the fringes of society who himself had been trained and changed by ancient ways for the sole purpose of hunting monsters.

Taking the child back to the keep where his fellow hunters lived and trained, the hunter and his kin was far more knowledgeable in the ways of slaying horrors and lifting curses than raising a child. While they were never unkind to Petra and indeed she grew to see them as her family, the hunters could think of naught to do but train them as one of their own. Though she began to develop their skills, the rituals and enhancements that turned the hunters into beings superhuman and strong enough to hunt the monsters that lurked in the shadows had been designed to work on the male body. Even the attempt for Petra to undergo them was almost certainly going to be fatal.

Fate and destiny however had other plans once more. A training accident, dangerous enough to have been almost deadly to the girl, brought forth the first hints of her power in a wild burst that could have easily endangered Petra and those around her. The hunter, realising the girl was more than simply an unfortunate orphan, sent for his paramour, a sorceress of great skill...and almost as great a temper.

Only now was Petra's bloodline and potential revealed to her, her tutelage in magic beginning under the sorceress watchful eye. Though she'd grow to see the sorceress as much an adoptive parent as the hunter, this never saved her from the strictness of instruction.

Through time, trial and adventure, eventually Petra would grow into a young woman, a trained hunter (or huntress) and a skilled sorceress. Inevitably driven by the values and skills instilled in her to set out on the same path of protecting those in need from the dangerous 'monsters' that lurked in the world.

Time however, begins to move on for everyone. Mankind rose, science became norm and magic became myth to most. Monsters that had once stalked woods were often driven back by this progress, to skulk in shadow and fade from the mind of the average citizen. Centuries passed, nations rose and over time the hunters and sorceress' alike faded into obscurity and unknown even for Petra.

While the time she was raised in faded, purpose never did for Petra. Promises of neutrality and a duty to protect humans drove her to keep out of the wars of men, trails and fears of witchcraft lead her to concealing her existence and never staying in one place for too long. Yet even as towers of steel and glass rose or the world was rocked by the emergence of the public 'super-beings' and mutants, Petra continued on her path. Monsters would always remain after all, and so there always needed to be a hunter to find them. The world had it's heroes, but occasionally it required a professional.

Personality:

Petra is incredibly protective of the people she cares for, particularly as many of them in the past have gone their separate ways or passed on. She also caries a drive of duty that spurs her to seek out monsters and protect the population from those that are dangerous to them. Petra enjoys brief dalliances of a normal life with people where she can, especially those who find kindness in their hearts to help her in some way. She is most assuredly kind to those who are outcasts or not normal, to degrees of mutants or even simply those on the fringes of society. By extending her kindness to those who are more likely to accept her, she tries to form lasting friendships and acquaintances that she can help. Her kindness, too, extends towards most children, as they don't know any better and lack the malice and spite of typical closed-minded adults.

Ageless:
A benefit and byproduct of a sorceress' ability to change themselves to form their ideal physical form, Petra's body is unaffected by the ravages of time and disease. While this immortality has allowed her to live for a very long time, it offers no protections from physical trauma or factors such as starvation.

Air Magics:
'Air' magics contain both the manipulation of air and currents of wind. Petra's Air spells include:

Feathered Wind: Effectively creating an upward gust and shaping wind around herself, Petra can utilize this spell to create a simple glide path and slow herself when falling. While she can't use this magic to fly, it has helped her avoid abrupt gravity-related death!

The shelter: This spell allows Petra to create a pocket of about 4m in radius (around 10 feet) that shelters her from smoke, poison or otherwise tainted air.

Telekinesis: By basically shaping magical currents around an object, Petra can hold, lift and otherwise move objects weighing up to 500 kilograms before overdrawing this spell (to painful results).

Chaos Magic:
The fundamental power wielded by Petra and those who trained her is a force referred to as "Primordial Chaos". It is drawn from the base forces of existence, but without being given a more material form it is wildly unstable. Due to this, Chaos is best channeled by being shaped into four main elements. Coming from an impressive magical pedigree, Petra can wield these magics with impressive potency.

Complex Chaos Magics:
As the 'elemental' magics are spells that channel Chaos into physical forms, these magics channels Chaos energy into more complex forms, allowing for more complex spells beyond the elements. They are also far more complex to manage. Those that Petra has mastered include:

Glamour: A cosmetic spell that allows one to change their physical appearance. As Petra's white hair and scar on her cheek is particularly recognizable, she uses this magic to obscure the wound or look more 'normal'. Her standard 'disguise' is that with dark hair and almost violet eyes very similar to that of her instructor in magics.

Dispelling: More of a trained response rather than a spell itself, this magic is used to defend against hostile magics in the fashion of a shield, rediverting mystical energy and disrupting spells. More powerful magics, curses and complex enchantments may take considerable effort or be downright impossible, but it serves as a means to defend herself from aggressive magics.

Teleportation: One of the more complex magics Petra knows, this spell allows Petra to teleport to a known location instantaneously. If the location is unknown, it -is- possible but extremely more complex, requiring an object from that place to even be attempted. This 'blind' teleporting, or indeed teleporting into a space that is occupied can result in a rebounding, causing Petra to reappear in a random location up to 10 miles away. With all the modern dangers of potentially appearing in the middle of traffic, even attempting this is something she is extremely hesitant about.

Earth Magics:
'Earth' magics are conducted by the channeling of chaos magic into the manipulation of stone and the enhancement of simple plantlife. Petra's Earth spells include:

'Stone Arrow': A spell for creating and propelling sharp stone projectiles at a target, similar in force and shape to arrows. A variation of this spell also allows her to focus this shaping into a single 'earthen spike' and create an angled stalagmite to stab up at her target.

'Earthen Barrier': This spell allows Petra to create a 2m by 3m (6.6 by 9.8 foot) wall of rock as a barrier. While magically summoned, the rock wall is still only as strong as normal solid stone.

Nurturing Earth: A more utilitarian spell, this magic can grow a small plant from seed to maturity in moments. While effective for growing herbs, flowers or smaller alchemical plants it cannot be used to grow larger plants such as trees.

Fire Magics:
'Fire' magics contain the manipulation of chaos energy into the form of fire, heat and often light. Petra's Fire spells include:

Fire bolt: A standard spell for most sorceress. This spell allows Petra to throw a ball of pure fire at an opponent, hitting with some concussive force and bursting enough to hit a single target.

Erupting flames: A larger version of the fire bolt spell that is deliberately less stable and thus less precise, this spell creates a 2m x 2m explosion of fire, similar to if a significant amount of gasoline had suddenly been ignited. While not concussive, it still can be quite dangerous.

Pocket Starlight: A very simple spell, this magic creates a bright light and functions like a torch for lighting ones surroundings. Useful...but less so with the age of electricity.

Due to the unpredictable nature of fire spells, Petra also possesses magics for controlling the spread of flames and lowering their intensity, but these require active concentration and are utilized primarily to 'fix' mistakes rather than any useful offense.

Water Magics:

'Water' magics contain the manipulation of chaos energy into the form and shape of water and Ice. Due to the 'adaptable' nature of water, it is considered one of the easier magics to keep control of. Petra's Water spells include:

Piercing Hail: This spell hurls insanely cold pellets of icy energy at a target, pelting them and potentially even freezing them in a binding of ice.

Cloaking Fog: This spell creates an area of a 10m radius blanketed in thick obscuring fog, a magical 'smoke bomb' without the use of smoke.

Downpour: This particular spell is a variation on Dormyn's fog, condensing it into a few moments of falling rain note intense enough to really be dangerous, but useful when in need of something to assist in putting out a small blaze.

Frosted Grasp: This spell creates a blast of icy magic, creating either a 2m square ice slick or wrapping her target in constricting ice to keep them immobilized.

Athletics:
While Petra lacks the physical enhancements of the engineered monster hunters that raised her, she was raised and trained to as close to their standards as she could physically get. Graceful and acrobatic enough to pull of impressive world-class feats, Petra may not be able to enhance herself past the limits of peak physical fitness, but between training and and exercise (with a little magic thrown in) she can maintain that level.

Monster Hunting:
Although she was raised and trained a few centuries ago in the 'Middle Ages' when plate armor was still one of the best 'modern developments' of warfare, Petra was raised among a sect of trained monster slayers and taught their ways. While their combat arts are impressive, the skills in researching and understanding supernatural threats, curses and the means of disrupting, destroying them or lifting them are some of the most important lessons she's learned in her long life.

Swordsmanship:

Petra is adept with most modern weapons, many of which such as firearms are deliberately designed to be 'user friendly'. However, she was trained in the use of blades and a longsword in particular. Her 'father' was considered to be the greatest swordsman of the age according to some and Petra has taken his training to heart. While the weapon is anachronistic at best, it Petra is trained to face not only dangerous monsters but multiple similarly armed opponents. With the weapon so uncommonly practiced by the general population of the world, she may well be one of the best practitioners out there!

A Comfortable Space:
While some immortals might amass a fortune to own mega-corporations and grand castles, Petra's life has only really allowed enough to maintain a decent apartment or hotel suit and privacy to operate.

Research:
In ancient times, libraries and tomes were some of the greatest treasures. While Petra still holds some of these precious diagrams, texts and records, the modern age has made storing this information a little easier. With her experience, she has collected a considerable 'bestiary' of monstrous creatures and the skills to try and sort fact from fiction when faced with something new to add to it if she has the time.

Srebrna Dama:

A sword gifted to her when she set out on her own in the 14th century as a hunter, this sword was forged with silver-plating around an enchanted metal core. Covered in glyphs and runes of enchantment, the sword is magically protected from wear and warping, keeping its edge impossibly sharp despite centuries of use and removing the issues of softness that a silver blade might otherwise experience. While the weapon is otherwise no more dangerous and a similarly sharp metal blade, it is extremely sentimental to Petra and can be exceptionally dangerous to creatures vulnerable to silver.

Weaknesses

Dampening:
Materials, wards and metals exist that can either interfere, drain or otherwise pull magic away from those who would wield it. Such things can lower the effectiveness and even completely suppress Petra's use of magics for a time.

Dangers of Magic:
While Petra's bloodline carries an impressive potency in her potential for wielding magic, she still has to abide by the 'rules' for those who wield Primordial Chaos; pulling magic for these realms means using one's own body as a conduit. Pulling too much causes excruciating pain (and often painful side effects) as the magic bleeds out of her.

Earth magic rocks the earth around Petra and locks up her joints temporarily.

Air magic explodes outwards to throw her from her feet (likely to a hard landing).

Water magic causes her to begin to freeze, forming ice crystals on skin and clothing.
Fire magic can rather dramatically ignite her, potentially turning her into a painful pyre of colored flame.

'Mixed-element' spells that form more complex magics can blow out more unpredictably, but often one of the effects above comes to the forefront.

Focus:
Petra's magic is will imposed on Chaos, as such it requires just that: will and focus. Maintaining that focus means only one spell can really be wielded at a single time. Trying to focus on a new one means the other one lapses, even if it's as simple as trying to cast a spell while hold disguising herself with glamour.

Limits of the Body:
While the ravages of time and disease do not effect Petra, she is by no means an immortal. She is as susceptible to physical trauma, poisons and other mortal perils as any other. In a path that frequently pits one against extremely dangerous beings and situations, the threat of death is the same to her as any other 'normal' human.

Reckless Duty:
Petra's upbringing combined with a desperate connection to the one thing that still remains from her time leads her to seek out and hunt the monsters. This often comes at the risks to personal safety, along with the rendering 'normal' life or social connections impossible. This is complicated by the fact that with all that has come out into the world are far beyond her power and skill, but she may well be driven to face them on regardless.

Paired with the fact that she'd been walking this path alone for a very long time and she's less prone to seeking the support she needs to avoid walking into something in over her head.

Traditionalist:

There are far better modern solutions in the world, even for hunting monsters. There are those out there who achieve the same tasks with more modern edges and much safer means, but Petra still relies often on swords and sorcery. Some of the more intelligent and equally insidious monsters have no such qualms about taking every advantage the modern world can give them.
