Profile

Quinn's a musically inclined part-time college student who at times augments his income in a various ways. Some of them legal, some of them not entirely so. He comes from a decent home, makes a fair wage, and has a small apartment that still costs entirely too much since it's New York.

Description

Quinn's a young man in his twenties with dirty blonde hair and severe features. His jawline is sharp and angular as are his eyebrows. The eyes that they offer cover to are a light shade of blue that lends a subtle distance to the man upon introspection, but it's his mouth that can curve wry to give him a look of something like a rogue or trickster.

Currently he's wearing a pair of blue jeans whose cuffs cover the tops of his Chuck Taylor sneakers. A brown leather belt is through the waist of those jeans and partially hidden when his white over-sized Bob Ross t-shirt comes untucked. A brown leather jacket gives him shelter from the cold and of late he's started to wear a black knit wool beanie winter cap, and can often be seen sporting black ear buds on his shoulders or in his ears.

History

Quinn Alexander was born to loving doting parents who were wonderful people though they did have a tendency to enjoy alternative approaches to recreation involving pharmaceuticals while listening to music from past decades. Marcus Alexander and his wife of twenty five years, Jennifer, are both aging hipsters who have spent most of their life in search of something beyond what they perceive. It would tickle them to no end that they were finally able to create something so entirely out of the ordinary in the fact that their child is a mutant. Which probably explains why he still hasn't told them.

Quinn's parents would exult happily in the fact of their child having powers, but not just that. They'd be exceptionally happy that by having a mutant child they would instantly move up several notches in the esteem of their friends. For in today's climate a mutant child is terribly oppressed.

So Quinn's been told at least.

He went to school, learned he was different in high school when he got entirely bored during an afternoon detention and found himself abruptly outside while he was staring out the window. Then he went on to college. He didn't see anything out of the ordinary. People kept treating him normally for the most part. Being a mutant wasn't so bad. Of course his mutation is fairly benign compared to some mutants. Still.

So he used his talent at times to help him resolve some budgeting issues. Not that big of a deal. And alright he did get in trouble with a loan shark at one point after his father, a man with a penchant for get rich quick schemes, got behind the eight ball. But really, not that many people know about him. He's far from the flashiest mutant in the world.

Personality

Quinn has it all figured out. How can people have a hard time with life? He's twenty years old and he has the answers to everything and he loves to tell people about it. But really he's fairly personable, if at times a bit laconic. He can get along with most anyone and tends to be the fellow who makes peace when it's needed, or gets between two grumpy people about to throw down.

Abilities

TELEPORTATION
Quinn has the ability to teleport roughly eight feet in the direction he's looking. He is able to carry with him whatever he is touching at the time but as the amount of mass exceeds his own the difficulty of the teleportation increases by an order of magnitude equivalent to the ratio between his own mass and the object/individual's mass.

When he teleports if the space he would reach is not open then the teleport fails and simply advances him however far forwards he possibly can go safely. He is also able to teleport in a rapid successive series, up to approximately five times with no delay between the teleportation. However if he does so those 5 or so times, then he has to recover for a period of approximately 5 seconds. If he takes a brief pause between teleportation, a half second to a second worth of delay, then he can maintain repeated teleportation indefinitely until physically exhausted.

His side effect of his teleporting he is kinetically charged the brief tenth of a second upon emerging from the effect, giving greater impact to the first object he connects with should he be lashing out or landing.

Skills

BRAWLING
Perhaps it's a side-effect of his ability, an awareness of angles and spatial matter. Or perhaps he just has a talent for when he gets into a fight doing pretty well. In those rare times his diplomatic manners fail him, he doesn't have too much of a problem diving in and getting into a brawl. He seems to do well, no actual technique to him, no real training. He just launches himself as if he were leaping into a mosh pit. Of course, if he had to fight someone who knew what he was doing and if he wasn't able to use his ability then he would most likely lose pretty messily.

CAMPING
With parental units that were very into nature, and the hugging of trees, Quinn grew up learning all sorts of nifty little bits of information that will help a person survive in the wilderness. He knows how to forage for food, how to hunt, how to create shelter, how to start a fire, and how to navigate his way all with nominal effort.

DIPLOMACY
Way back when Quinn was just a five year old kid he was the one on the playground trying to make peace when Bobby would push Sally off of the teeter totter. He has a natural talent for getting folks to see the side of the other people involved in an argument, does his best to try and negotiate peace, and just has a general amiable outlook that seems to go over well with most people. But then again there is a drawback to it in that some people think his manner is a cover for something, and take an instant dislike to him.

FREE-RUNNING
Not quite Parkour since that sort of carries connotations in his mind, Quinn has indulged in the fun of running around and leaping about like a maniac and become decently talented at it, ever since he met a few people who took it more seriously than he did. It also didn't harm him in that he also used to skateboard when he was a teenager oh so long ago, but together it's added up that he's decently capable getting around in an unorthodox manner should he need to do so.

Resources

COMMUNE
Mom and Dad live in a commune in Oregon. No seriously. They bought a chunk of land, had a bunch of family friends come and live with them, everyone shares the chores and the upkeep, everyone farms and commits to self-sustenance. It's all super lovely and super hippie. Not Quinn's cup of tea, but it is at least a place he can go to if he has to get away from the world.

RENT-CONTROLLED APARTMENT
Quinn actually got the lease from his great aunt who had a small apartment in Manhattan that was rent-controlled from the 50s and a price he can actually afford decently so. Sure it still costs a good chunk of money, and sure it's just one bedroom one bath. But it stays warm in the winter and cool in the summer. So there's that.

Weaknesses

RHYTHM
Quinn used to have a hard time of it with his teleportation power. He'd teleport a few times in rapid succession and lose his breath as it'd quickly run him ragged. But eventually he realized that if he was listening to music, in the world or on his headphones, then he'd be able to time his teleportation to the beat of the music and keep himself going. This has had an added drawback, however, in that if he doesn't have music to listen to then he finds it much harder to keep up that steady pace.

WANTED
He hasn't been booked yet, and he's been caught a few times from the cops but got away fairly quickly. But the police on his beat know his face and consider him a thorn in their side. If they get a chance they'll try and capture him, though they're not at the point of using lethal force.

The Maggia, however, that he owes money to might very well use lethal force if he pushes them too far or stops being useful to them and their efforts.
