Profile

One of (at least) 5 teenaged victims of either a rogue intelligence agency or group of bored plutocrats, Sarah Rainmaker was one of the unwilling subjects of the Gen13 project, having been kidnapped from her home on the Western Apache reservation at San Carlos, Arizona to be experimented on. Luckily for her, when a group of other Gen13 kids led by Caitlin Fairchild staged a breakout, they freed her on the way out. While her good looks are natural, her control over air and water is due to her Gen-factor, and completely matches her name. She's since been on the run with the other kids, trying to help them stay below the radar, but having a hard time keeping her activist personality from putting her out at the front of the latest protests. She can still often be found trying to make a difference, though she has a much harder time being as strident about her personal life, particularly her preferences when it comes to significant others...especially Amazonian redheads she may live with.

This girl is tall for a woman, standing close to six feet in height, most of which is natural legginess that gives her the looks of a model. She has the slender but athletic figure of a climber or martial artist, her copper skin showing toned but not overly defined muscles. Warm brown eyes, a straight nose, sensual lips and high, defined cheekbones mixed with a strong chin highlight the natural beauty of her Native American features, her face framed by long black braids, while a rich fall of the same raven hair falls down to the small of her back. She wears a handmade necklace around her slender neck, a black leather cord with several copper shields of varying sizes, with stylized animals etched on each, all hanging down to her cleavage. A shorter double braided cord of turquoise beads hangs more closely around her throat above it. She wears a simple white tank top that hangs loosely, revealing the upper curves of her full chest, but only an inch or so of midriff, below which are comfortably worn cut-off jean shorts, the bottoms of the pockets poking out just slightly where they end at the lower curve of her hips. Otherwise, her long legs are bare all the way down to the hiking style boots she wears, laced up the front and worn over dark tan socks.

History

Sarah Rainmaker was born on the San Carlos Apache reservation in Arizona. Her father was a member of Team 7, a Gen-Active special ops solder named Stephen Callahan and her mother Rebecca Rainmaker. Unfortunately, while Stephen Callahan was away, a covert black ops kidnapped Rebecca and her young daughter as part of their experiments into creating a new generation of metahumans, the Gen13 project, while Callahan was a way, faking their deaths. Rebecca was able to escape from the facility by punching out a doctor and stealing a jeep, heading back to the reservation to hide in the desert where they wouldn't be able to find her. Unfortunately, this meant Callahan never knew his family had survived, and after getting over his grief, he went on to marry his second wife, Rachel, with whom he had two children, before the same unit attempted to kidnap the children, killing Callahan and his new wife and stealing away her half-brother Mathew and half-sister Nicole to be part of the program.

Sarah and her mother were able to stay on the run for years, with some help from some of her father's old Team 7 teammates, by hiding out on Apache reservations where it was difficult for them to be tracked. This lasted until Rachel's Gen-Factor activated at puberty. Rumors of a young girl who could control the weather to help crops on various reservations spread, until another team was sent to find her. Sarah, however, had been practicing mastering her talents, and was no longer a helpless girl. After a brief fight she was able to elude them and flee into the desert, where she was found by a fellow Apache metahuman named Ripclaw, who successfully helped her fight off her pursuers and saw that she was returned to her mother safely. Sadly, before they could flee again, another team was able to successfully capture Sarah and take her back to Project Genesis, where they began experimenting on her to determine the extend of her Gen-Active abilities.

Lucky for Sarah, she was freed from her imprisonment by fellow Gen13 teens making their own breakout from the facility, led by Caitlin Fairchild, along with a fortuitous assault by legitimate government forces that had learned of the illegal experiments being performed. She fled with the other teens, with their "Keepers" in close pursuit. After many attempts they've successfully managed to shake their pursuers, but still are trying to stay on the down low to avoid tempting fate, at least until they have a better idea if they're really free...or if this is just an attempt to lull them into a false sense of security. Until then, they've secured an old house in New York and taken some local jobs to pay the bills, while they continue working out how best to use their abilities...and simply with how to adapt to their new powers.

Personality

Sarah has a very confident personality for most things. She strongly believes in standing up for what she believes is right and calling out injustices when she sees them, and is particularly aware of many of the inequalities that are part of being a Native American and a minority woman in American society. She can be positively fiery about it, in fact, and this is the source and the strength of her activism. She is not willing to stay silent or to be told to sit back down.

This can, however, be a bit irritating for friends and acquaintances when they don't meet her standards for political correctness and inspire a lecture from her, which can be either a source of annoyance or amusement depending. She really has a hard time holding in snarky comments at times. Luckily for her friendships and general social life, she's dedicated to being a peacemaker and finding common ground to explain her views, and is patient enough to understand that change does not happen overnight or through violence, but through understanding and awareness. She has often ended up being the diplomat of the Gen13 teens, and is generally willing to compromise - but only to a point. It's also an outgrowth of her sense of unfairness over the loss of her father and the hole he left in her life, when Sarah and her mother were forced to go on the run. She is willing and able to fight when pushed, and is very much a warrior in that sense, even when it's more physical than just a war of words.

Because of the need to stay hidden and prepare for the worst, she also is very disciplined, and willing to work hard to get what she wants. She's used to being self-sufficient and not having much help to accomplish her goals. For example, she's trained hard in the martial arts since her mother and her escaped capture the first time, to learn to protect herself, and works every day to keep herself in top physical condition. She applies the same dogged determination to mastering her powers, so she can be ready if the Keepers come again, which is why she's one of the most advanced of the other Gen13 teens with her Gen-Active abilities.

Oddly, it's her sexuality where she's both very confident and very self-conscious at the same time. She's very aware of her body and has no shame in how she looks; for example, she has no problem dressing in more skimpy clothing or even walking around nude, to go swimming for example. It's not that she's a tease, it's that she has no self consciousness or shame there about being in a natural state (possibly because she is in top physical condition and knows it).

When it comes to her heart, however, she's more shy. She's attracted to women over men, but has a hard time actually approaching a girl she's interested in, due to previous missteps and disasters (in particular clueless redhead teammates). This can frustrate her, more at herself and her inability to overcome her hesitation and fear of rejection to simply talk with the current focus of her affections, rather than the other person themselves. Part of this is likely an outgrowth of her feelings of loss over her father; part of it is simply a clear knowledge of how a lesbian can be treated in modern society. Either way, she does have a fear of losing a friend because she makes them uncomfortable or, worse, offends them by her interest, and tends to keep that part of her life private from people she doesn't know well.

Abilities

AEROKINESIS
Rainmaker is capable of using her mind to control wind strength and direction of air currents, allowing her to create powerful gusts of wind. She can use this ability to stir up dust, sand, and other ambient materials to create blinding sand storms or dust devils. She lacks the ability for fine control of air molecules, meaning she cannot create a vacuum or separate individual gases.

FLIGHT
Rainmaker can use her ability to control air to fly via riding air currents, or even to carry others along with her, up to three people beside herself before it gets too difficult to focus on all of them. Because she can control air to limit friction when she flies, she can travel up to 500 MPH, as well as preventing damage to herself and passengers from the wind. However, she can only manipulate air where it exists, and is limited to the upper levels of Earth's atmosphere, and then only with some means of breathing considering she cannot increase the oxygen in the air at that height.

HYDROKINESIS
Rainmaker can control water with her elemental abilities. She can use this power to evaporate existing water into the air, or to pull moisture out of the air to create precipitation or fog, which she often does when controlling storms. However, she can also use it to directly control the movement of water. The larger the body of water, the harder it is to manipulate, just as it's easier to control a current that already exists. For example, she is capable of shifting the flow of a river to overflow its banks, or creating huge waves along a coastline, especially if she augments them with her ability to intensify wind currents.

LIGHTNING
Rainmaker's control over air and water allow her to artificially stimulate the natural electrical charge created when raindrops bump together to create lightning. More importantly, she can then direct that lightning from her hands at a target, though without precise targeting control due to the nature of lightning unless she physically touches a target. However, she has been given high tech metal gauntlets by one of her father's friends at Team 7 that enhance her lightning attacks and allow her to target them more accurately when she wears them. She can also scale down her lightning into taser-like shocks she can deliver by touch as a non-lethal alternative to knock opponents out, or to short out their equipment. She has also demonstrated the ability to manipulate electricity directly to convert it into lightning blasts, though their strength is dependent on the power of the source she is tapping into.

WEATHER CONTROL
Rainmaker has the power to combine her ability to control air and to control water with her mind, to create, control, and dismiss storms, or to intensify or weaken them. This allows her to create a variety of effects, from fog and rain, to powerful twisters or hurricanes. However, her power only allows her to manipulate air and water, not temperature - thus, she cannot summon snow in the middle of july or let it rain in arctic conditions, she can only work with what already exists in the local environment. It also means that the effects she creates are only sustained as long as she concentrates on them, unless the environment was already ripe for those conditions. A storm will disappate if it would not have already existed, and will reform if it was disappated when it was natural for it to form.

WILLPOWER
Having enduring being hunted for most of her life and being experimented on and tormenting during her imprisonment by Project Genesis, Rainmaker has developed both formidable mental discipline and the ability to resist those who would try to force her to do anything against her will.

ACTIVISM
Activism over a variety of topics is near and dear to Sarah's heart: feminism, civil rights, Native American rights, and minority politics, among others. She's an experienced debater on these topics and knows the arguments for and against that are commonly used, as well as the philosophies behind the arguments.

APACHE
Rainmaker is proud of her Apache heritage, and knows a great deal about her people's heritage and customs. She speaks the Western Apache dialect of the Athabaskan language fluently. She follows many of her people's customs when she can, including some of the Apache taboos concerning sickness and death.

COMBAT TRAINING
Rainmaker has received a good amount of combat training, both through studying martial arts as a girl and from some of her father's friends in Team 7. She has honed these skills through experience with the rest of the Gen13 team, and is a formidable hand-to-hand fighter.

NATURAL TACTICIAN
Rainmaker has a natural talent for combat tactics that she's honed through training and practice, both on her own and from training by some of her father's friends who were part of Team 7.

PEACEMAKER
Rainmaker has a gift for seeing both sides of an argument, and for either finding a compromise or convincing the other side of the rightness of the other side's cause. This makes her a fair abitrator and an excellent debater.

FAMILY
Rainmaker still has plenty of family left back home at the San Carlos reservation. In addition to her mother Jenny Rainmaker, she has a pair of uncles named John Two-Raven and Billy Rainmaker, all of which are Apache and willing to protect a fellow tribe member.

GEN13
Rainmaker is friends with the rest of the Gen13 team that escaped from Project Genesis: Caitlin Fairchild, Roxy "Freefall" Spaulding, Edmung "Grunge" Chang, and Bobby "Burnout" Lane. She knows she can depend on them to help her if she's in trouble, and would do the same for them.

TEAM 7
While Sarah was never a member of Team 7, her father Steve Callahan was. While he was murdered years ago, his friends still remember him, and are willing to help out his daughter when they can. Since they are often still in the covert anti-metahuman operations business, that assistance can be helpful indeed.

BLOODLINES
Rainmaker is related by blood through her father to her half-brother Matthew and her half-sister Nicole, who were not as lucky as she was in avoiding being turned into weapons by the Project Genesis program. They are now the villains Threshold and Bliss, and resent and hate Rainmaker being able to avoid the torment that twisted them into the monsters they are today.

HUNTED
Rainmaker, like the rest of Gen13, is the product of countless years and billions of dollars worth of research and highly illegal human experimentation within the intelligence community. This means that, having escaped their clutches, they are very unlikely to give up hunting her and her friends. This means Rainmaker must be careful about how visible she is, especially in terms of her electronic footprint.
