Sean is a low-key citizen of Gotham. His family has tended to a used book store for the last forty years and he has inherited its stewardship. Though the neighborhood has changed over the years, his family has remained mostly decent citizens throughout that timespan.

Description:

The first word that likely springs to mind when one considers Sean Reilly is 'Bookish'. For he portrays that theme rather well with his casual manner and his choice in clothing. He has the glasses, the beard, the posture of a man much more used to spending time in the comfort of lamp-light surrounded by shelves that contain the things one imagines when the word bookish comes up. Leatherbound tomes, pale yellow sources of illumination, wooden walls and furniture.

But it's when one gets past that initial impression they might see the small tell-tale bits that give the lie to that image he so easily presents. At a glance he looks what thirty-ish? But when those glasses come off or when he smiles or his features animate with warmth, his hidden youth comes to the fore. And when he takes off his jacket, or undoes his scarf, or even takes some time for an athletic effor now and again one can see that he is not unfit or unwise in the training of one's body. Not entirely at least.

Though currently his choice in clothes do not help. For he wears jeans that are perhaps a little too tight. He wears brown leather shoes that seem like they're better for Sunday dinner, and his t-shirt is often obscured by an overshirt that is rather comfortable and seemingly worn in. All he would need to be pushed over the edge into middle-age would be a sweater with padded elbows.

History:

Sean was born into the Reilly clan some twenty six years ago give or take. At first it was his mother and father and him, as well as his grand parentals. All living in Gotham. Life advanced and they added a brother Ryan. The two brothers grew up in downtown Gotham, spending the occasional weekends with their grandfather and helping him with the book store. Everyone got along for the most part. Oh sure they fought, but what Irish family didn't?

Then Sean wandered off to college, he was the more bookish of the two brothers but they still got along mostly well. Unfortunately in his absence Ryan was less supervised than he might be which led to him running with a rather unfriendly crowd. He spent his teenage years close to getting in trouble, surrounded by some shady characters. It wasn't until Sean came home from college that he could see what was happening.

Sean intervened, trying to get Ryan clear of the gang of people that Ryan admired, real bad guys really. Gangsters maybe, criminals for sure. The brothers fought and argued, until one night a brawl broke out between two gangs and the Reilly brothers were stuck in the middle. They fled from the scene of the brawl, but unfortunately were attacked by a vigilante during the escape. Ryan was able to get away, but Sean was struck and knocked from a third story rooftop to land in an alleyway and was severely injured.

For three years, Sean has been recovering, going to physical therapy and training as he can to get himself going back to his old level of health. It's been tough and he's focused on helping his family, tending to his grandfather's store, and sometimes playing some games online.

Personality:

Sean's personality is staggeringly polite with strangers. In public he is quiet, calm, gentle. He feels that manners are important. But when he gets to know people or is comfortable with them, well that's another matter entirely. For then he snarks and snarks often. He enjoys making wry comments and hearing people laugh. Sometimes he uses that humor to deflect from difficult topics or uncomfortableness. It's his go to mode of interaction when at ease.

Computers:
A gifted amateur, Sean has a talent with computers on the level of someone who has not studied them actively, but keeps himself abreast of developments and has a good knowledge of working with them. Primarily this has been gained through osmosis over time and less a trained thing, but he could feasibly fix computers for a living if he needed to.

Diplomacy:
Sean's family has had bad tempers historically. How he's dealt with this is primarily in learning how to negotiate with people politely. Very politely. To such a degree that he clings to the form of manners and politeness needed to have a good back and forth dialogue with someone. The application of a mental system to something like that has kept him able to order his thoughts and keep his temper from fraying.

History:
With a minor in the Classical era, Sean has a reasonably well formed opinion of how the world progressed to modern era. He likely couldn't teach a class about such, but he could definitely hold his own in a conversation over coffee.

Jiu-Jitsu:
One of the ways that Ryan and Sean were able to bond was when they both went through a rough time at school and had difficulty controlling their tempers. They each got into a fight within days of each other, which led to their father taking them first to study boxing but their interest was quickly grabbed from that course of study and transitioned over toward the weirder jiu-jitsu. Both of them trained for a good seven years regularly, and off and on afterwards. Though Sean was the only one of the two with the stick-to-itness to get his black belt.

Literature:

One of his areas of study in school, Sean has focused a good bit of effort learning about the great works of the world and has a strong familiarity with them. If he returned to school for a graduate degree he likely would pick this field as one to excel in.

Book Store:

Though his grandfather is still alive, Sean has become the manager and acting owner in his elder's stead. He currently handles the day to day and all future plans for the book store, Reilly's Used Books, though he does not plan to make any changes down the line, seemingly at ease with this as his lot in life.

Weaknesses

Injury:
Several years ago, Sean fell three stories and injured his back badly. Over time he's been able to regain function and can walk, though his doctor insists he carry with him a cane for when he gets tired or if he develops a twinge or pain. He's able to conduct himself normally, but there are times when it flares up and he still must be careful with it for the next year.

Temper:

The Reilly's are known for being people capable of building up a head of steam. It's a familial curse but one that his father and his grandfather have been able to handle each in their own way. Sean is no different and his technique for handling his temper has been learning at length about diplomacy and negotiation. However, if that fails him, he can get very angry and even violent with someone he perceives as a threat.
