Profile

Her public profile suggests she was some sort of Paratrooper with the Polish Army, who at some point suffered an unspecified training accident. Supposedly some sort of security person for the Polish Embassy in NYC, but she might as well be a ghost. Secretly she's an elite counter terrorist operator, sniper instructor and all around dangerous woman. A member of JW GROM's Unit-C, she's been heavily augmented following a near death experience. These days she's best known in the diplomatic arena for her love of Electric vehicles, and naked admiration of American super heroes.

Description:

The riding gear is what folks tend to notice first, which is the point of course. A neat dark brown textile jacket cut like the bellstaffs of old, complete with brass buttons and all. Shoulders and spine reinforced clearly, and home to some sort of sewn in armor. Her trousers are black and decidedly both fitted and reinforced in the saddle, and knees with yet more armor.
It's the accessories that sell the thing, but of course. A pair of almost knee high brown leather motocross boots with worn brass buckles.Heavy leather riding gloves shoved in one jacket pocket, jet black silk scarf left wound around her neck. Some sort of fancy rolltop backpack, with her jet black motorcycle helmet strapped to it.
The woman wearing all that, well she's relatively mild by comparison. Physically at least she's lean and lithe, built more like a rock climber than anything by all appearances. Dirty blonde hair left in a lazy ponytail, though not even that can fully tame the helmet hair.

History

History1:
Nobody remembers Berna in her home town of Lublin, even from a young age she kept a low profile. Following the death of her mother at age three, she was raised exclusively by her father Jan Wieczorek. Jan was a professional hunter with the forestry service, policing poachers and tracking down problem animals in the forests around Lublin.
Berna was very much her father's daughter, and he frequently brought her out into the wilds with him when schooling allowed. Her earliest memories were made in dark Polish forests, of cold early morning fog and long treks through the scrub. In school she was exactly average, so much so that many of her teachers suspected she was far more intelligent than she let on. Instead it seemed she worked exactly as hard as was necessary to escape any particular attention.
She had few childhood friends, and had no criminal record to speak of. When she came of age she volunteered for the army, as service made getting a job with the Forestry service all the easier. Only to her surprise, she found the entire affair fairly easy. A lifetime out in the wilderness had made her hardy, and basic training was hardly the first time she had fired a gun.

History2:
She was selected for GROM before she'd even finished basic, and proceeded from one school into the next without delay. She would go on to train with the SEALS and Sweden's Special forces command. She graduated third in her class, and was immediately passed to the Sniper course for training.
At twenty-two she was the youngest graduate of the sniper course, and it's third highest scoring recruit. She would go on to serve with distinction across the middle east and Northern Africa.
October 2020 she was deployed to the Ukraine, tasked with tracking down a duo of Russian snipers working the region known simply as "The Hyena and the Vulture". By January she'd killed five other Russian snipers, before finally catching "The Hyena". UAV footage confirmed the kill on the Hyena at three thousand meters, and the follow up which crippled his spotter for interrogation.

History3:

When Berna and her spotter went forward to capture the crippled spotter, they were engaged from across the border by "The Vulture". After two days the duel between the two sniper teams was finally brought to a close with a salvo of Russian artillery, killing Berna's spotter outright. Berna faired only slightly better, and had she not been able to key her mic in morse for another ten hours she'd have been left for dead herself.
Faced with a horrific prognosis, she was offered an opportunity to undergo an experimental treatment presuming she consented to mandatory service to the unit. Without hesitation she agreed, and was transported back to Warsaw for treatment followed by a transfer over to GROM's secretive C-squad. Her brain and what remained of her nervous system were removed, and implanted into a new vat grown, cybernetically enhanced body.
She'd spend three years relearning how to make the best of her new gifts, before being placed back into active circulation. From there she'd spend another two years serving as GROM's senior counter-sniper, before being reassigned yet again. Worries over Future Russian aggression undertaken by meta-human actors, saw C-squad dispersed to serve amongst Poland's NATO allies. Berna was chosen for the American post.

Personality

Personality:

Outwardly she exudes an aura of calm, the sort've cold clinical professional you'd expect in a sniper. She's distant in the extreme, socially something of a ghost. Inwardly she's far less ordered most of the time. She's not even always sure if she's real at all, and not some elaborate program designed to think it's people. She's not always certain everything she does is done out of free will, or if theres some army code running in her brain somewhere. Combined with her penchant for self isolation, and a lifetime spent behind a high power rifle? In her profession mental health problems are of course not handled well, and her condition is one she finds deeply shameful to boot. So now faced with the desire to form some measure of connection with those around her, she finds forging real authentic connections all the more difficult. Thusfar at least it's not impacted her performance on the battlefield, but that may not be true forever with her starting trajectory.

Abilities

Aux Port:
Berna's capable of plugging peripherals directly into her nervous system, things like radios, night vision, Thermal cameras and so fourth can be plugged directly in. This works both ways of course, allowing her to pipe out sensory information. In practice this means she can use fused vision systems with far greater ease than normal people, and control drones through a radio she's plugged into. Note, this does not make her some sort of hacker by default of course.

Combat Cyborg:

A cloned body reinforced with biomechanical wizardry. She can nearly rival an olympic sprinter's speed, and keep that pace for five miles. She's stronger than her outward appearance would suggest as well, capable of bench pressing approximately three hundred pounds. Her vision is approximately twice as sharp as peak human, and her optic nerves plumbed for additional extrasensory input when she's wired up.

Skills

Master Sniper:
A master of her craft with many years of front line service in addition to extensive formal training, and an accredited senior sniper instructor. She can push a rifle to the limit of it's absolute ballistic envelope, work up loads, build dope sheets, read wind and range read with the best of them. She's an expert in camouflage and concealment, observation, counter sniper operations and field craft.

Motorcycles:
She's been riding Mopeds, scooters and motorcycles since she was a little girl, though not seriously until she was posted with GROM. With a dirtbike she's capable of more than holding her own at informal track days, but she's hardly got the skills to go pro. She's also not too bad at fixing common stuff when it goes sideways.

Tier One:
Berna is a GROM special forces operator and has been professionally trained and qualified internationally. She's a veteran with deployments across the globe, and has had the opportunity to work beside many other NATO special forces. She's got trigger time with virtually every small arm in circulation, is an expert with land nav, explosives, hand to hand, counter terrorism and small unit tactics, and all the other typical SF skills you'd expect from a tier one operator type.

Wilderness:

Her dad's a forest ranger, and she grew up in the woods. She can track men or game as well as anyone with eyes as sharp as hers. She knows how to hunt and fish, has taken game with a spear before. With just a knife she's quite capable of surviving anywhere but the most extreme of environments.

Resources

Czarny:

It's a Drone, designed to look and fly like a raven. Czarny is a high endurance, short range observation drone to be specific. Equipped with a very rudimentary (bird brain) AI, thermal, Night Vision, TV cameras and a particularly precise GPS receiver. Granted if you get any closer than about twenty five feet, Czarny's disguise doesn't quite pass muster. At altitude, or perched on a high branch though it's more than enough disguise to fool the casual observer.

Grom:
She's a Polish special forces operator, and like all GROM she's trained abroad with a wide range of NATO allies. She knows many individuals within the international special forces community on a first name basis, and they know her. She can use this informal network to get places on the downlow, secure basic equipment, get some general intelligence and so fourth. Her own unit is no exception of course, nor even the greater Polish army generally speaking. GROM are rock stars. Granted if she's gone rogue, these same people are going to be the ones called upon to track her down and they know her tricks.

Group C:
Poland's premier Meta-human unit, distilled from within Poland's premier special forces unit. She can rely on her supply chain to keep her unique body well supplied with spares and technicians when appropriate. They can also source her the occasional big ticket or exotic piece of hardware, provided it's for an official operation and available on the open market. Poland doesn't have DARPA or the US defense budget, so they can't afford to whip up things on the fancy.

Hazard Pay:
She's essentially a Staff Sergeant in the Polish army, with a mountain of bonuses for her various qualifications, hazardous duty postings and so fourth. So she brings down alright money in addition to her living stipend while in the US. Back home she's got a lovely remote cabin in the woods, and a barn full of old motorcycles, a few nice sporting rifles and such. In the US she's got an ok apartment in NYC and a hand built electric dirt bike which is mostly legal.

Personal Kit:

She's got a collection of sniper rifles built to suit her particular tastes, a few P90s setup the way she likes, a few different handguns and an extremely sturdy knife that are assigned to her personally. There's also a suit of lightweight body armor capable of stopping pistol rounds, and rifle rounds at the chest and head. Hyperspectral goggles, and a "Chameleon cloth" poncho which alters its color and temperature to mimic ambient over about five minutes.

Weaknesses

Bingo Book:
The Russians don't know exactly who she is, but they know the poles have at least one augmented sniper at their disposal. She's a tactical HVT, and they will absolutely kill her if they can get away with it. Russian intelligence has a whole office devoted just to GROM, and whilst they don't even have her photo yet? Well she does have some trademark techniques which can be used to identify her. Also, how many female GROM snipers are there really?

Delicate:
Whilst Berna can heal some minor injuries just like anyone else, major injuries are going to require spare parts and probably a technician to repair. She can't rely on regular doctors, or standard emergency medical care if she gets really beat up. Until she can get to a secure facility and get fixed, she's going to stay damaged. Amongst all her augmentations she's also not been heavily reinforced, so she's not dramatically tougher than a baseline human either.

Nuts:
She isn't really, but mental health issues are not handled well in the military world. A lifetime spent behind the rifle, a near death experience, followed by being "reborn" into a new body. Berna suffers from Depersonalization disorder and exhibits symptoms of PTSD, all of which is thus far well managed. The shame of her "Defect" is deep however, and her therapist has been adamant that she needs to spend more time in the company of others. Prolonged isolation and stress however, is not great for her long term health.

Soldier:
Berna's amazing cyborg body cost the Polish tax payers an enormous chunk of change, never mind the training and logistical costs she's inflicted on the national budget. Her current contract is for fifty years, and considering how technologically valuable she is they're not going to release her early. She is obliged to act in the best interests of Poland, even if they conflict with her host nation's wishes. She is likewise obliged to follow orders, and uphold a standard of conduct befitting a Polish soldier.

The Vulture:
Berna killed the Vulture's spotter, her husband, her husband's spotter and almost got the Vulture during and engagement on the Russian/Ukrainian border. In return the Vulture killed Berna's spotter, Called Artillery on her and nearly killed her. These two have a profound score to settle, and both are liable to stop whatever else they're doing to settle things. The Vulture is currently working as a Mercenary after departing Russian service, and they could very well run into each other at any time. These two women don't even know what the other looks like incidentally.

Uncanney Valley:

Berna's new body doesn't come without a few oddities. She has trouble with intonation, and has a particularly flat affect to her speech. Her facial expressions are also not entirely automatic anymore either, and it's not as if she was ever a good liar or actress so this hasn't made her any more capable of deceit. Spend any time with her and it becomes obvious something is up with her, most just find her deeply unsettling.
