Superboy appeared a couple years in Metropolis in a moment many people thought Superman was dead. He tried to claim the name, and bore a striking resemblance to a young Superman, both in appearance and super-powers. People called him Superboy, and it stuck. There is are rumors he is a clone, but most likely he is a little brother. No one could clone a Kryptonian, right?
