Profile

Shortly after Nazi Germany's defeat in WWII, HYDRA shifted the focus of its experimental operations to multiple locations in the Soviet Union. The Super Soldier program tested candidates from a variety of backgrounds, ranging from soldiers to athletes.

Svetlana Kuznetsov was a promising figure skater when she was selected for the program at age 18. The initial serum process went well, but there were side effects. Some subjects demonstrated uncontrolled aggression during the conditioning and programming process. Svetlana, or Subject 6, responded better than most.

Then there was an 'incident' at one of the other facilities. Five test Subjects nearly destroyed the facility before they were detained. The orders were clear and simple: shut the project down. All Subjects at all facilities were put into cryogenic suspension and hidden away. That was 1950.

Description:

Standing midway between five and six feet tall, this woman isn't exactly imposing at first glance. Her build is solid and athletic, toned and efficient rather than bulky. Dark brown hair is pulled back tight to keep it out of her face, twisted and braided with nothing straying below the collar. Her face is oval and her features are soft, with a strong nose and full lips. Dark brows arch over large, caramel-colored eyes that show no emotion. She carries herself with confidence and purpose.

History:

Shortly after Nazi Germany's defeat in WWII, HYDRA shifted the focus of its experimental operations to multiple locations in the Soviet Union. The Super Soldier program was one such operation that survived the end of the war and relocation. It tested candidates from a variety of backgrounds, ranging from soldiers to athletes to artists.

Svetlana Kuznetsov grew up in a small village outside of Moscow. She was a promising figure skater, and moved to Moscow in her mid-teens to focus on her skating. Svetlana was selected for the Super Soldier program at age 18 instead. The initial serum process went well, but there were side effects. Some subjects demonstrated uncontrolled aggression during the conditioning and programming process. Svetlana, or Subject 6, responded better than most.

After the administration of the serum, the Subjects were programmed and conditioned using accelerated learning techniques that used more of the mind's full potential. Combat maneuvers were reduced to rote muscle memory. It was a promising approach that initially yielded good results.

About two years into Svetlana's training there was an 'incident' at one of the other facilities. Five test Subjects nearly destroyed the facility before they were detained. The orders were clear and simple: shut the project down. All Subjects at all facilities were put into cryogenic suspension and hidden away in 1950. Since that time the Iron Curtain came down and the Soviet Union dissolved. Scientists moved on to other projects and old facilities were forgotten. Some test Subjects perished as their cryo units failed.

But at least one did not.

Personality

Personality:

Before her indoctrination as Subject 6, Svetlana was like any Russian teenager. She was passionate about her skating, of course, but also curious about the Soviet Union's newest ally-turned-adversary: the United States. Even in the late 1940's Soviet kids were getting their hands on swing records, learning to dance, and even stealing whatever magazines they could find to learn about American fashion.

Svetlana's group in the Super Soldier program was made up of athletes, as a test to try and build upon natural abilities and competitive drive. So becoming Subject 6 didn't wipe her personality so much as augment it. Her competitive drive remained, but she focused on objectives related to killing people instead of throwing triple-axels on the rink. The program was shut down when she was 18, so she can still be drawn back to that wide-eyed teenager. At least until she puts on her 'game face'.

Abilities

Enhanced Physique:

Subject 6 was given the super soldier serum as part of her conditioning by the Soviet branch of Hydra. The serum elevated her physically to match peak human capability. So she had the stamina to run for days at a time, sprinting in bursts up to 40 mph. She was durable enough to shrug off small caliber bullets and tough enough to walk away from a beating that would be fatal to normal humans. Even with her unimpressive size, Subject 6 could lift about 500 lbs. Her reflexes were quicker than the eye could follow, and she was agile enough to dodge most incoming attacks.

Skills

Education:
Much like her physical programming, Svetlana was subjected to experimental accelerated learning techniques. While her knowledge is extensive, it is entirely 'book' knowledge with little to no practical experience to back it up.

Expert Soldier:
Subject 6 was programmed to be an expert soldier, at least by standards of the era. She is a precision marksman with firearms and weapons available to the Soviet military before 1950. This includes pistols, rifles, submachine guns, machineguns, bazookas, and the venerable AK-47. Svetlana can drive and operate any Soviet-era military vehicles and tanks up to and including the T-44 model. In addition, she can fly tactical and ground support aircraft that would have been state of the art in 1950. She is also an expert in military tactics, based on the 1950's Soviet military model.

Figure Skating:
Svetlana was a promising figure skater before being selected by Hydra for the Super Soldier program. It's quite likely that she could have made the Olympic team, with the right training. She is still quite good, and if given the opportunity she would be very capable of impressive jumps and turns.

Hand Combat:
Svetlana was programmed with the most up to date hand combat protocols available to the Soviet Union, both armed and unarmed. The overall result incorporates elements of Sambo, a softer style which is less strength-dependent and Systema, which includes harder strikes, firearms, and knives.

While her fighting skills are cutting edge, that is only as of 1949. Techniques introduced later would be completely foreign to her. And due to the nature of her programming, it's difficult for her to improvise in adverse situations.

Multilingual:
Svetlana's native language is Russian. She is fluent in English, French, Italian, German, Japanese, Spanish, Korean, Chinese and a few other languages due to her uploaded education, although her speech would mark her clearly as a non-native speaker.

Operations Knowledge:
Subject 6 received a tremendous amount of tactical and operations knowledge during her accelerated programming. This includes espionage techniques, codes and ciphers used through 1950, radio operation, and unconventional warfare. She has the equivalent theoretical training of Spetsnaz GRU operative, just lacking the practical experience.

Programming:

Svetlana received most of her special combat and operations training via an experimental 'sensory saturation' programming technique. Essentially an 'accelerated-rote' method followed by real-time practical demonstration, the advantage was that a tremendous amount of information has been reduced to muscle memory and reflex in a relatively short period of time.

Resources

Contacts:
Lana worked as a mercenary for a while after being away from SHIELD. She made a name for herself as a skilled, capable soldier and she still has a decent list of names to call.

Income:
Since leaving the SHIELD compound, Lana has been working as a mercenary. She mostly takes security jobs requiring military expertise, and after being in the business for even a short time she has made a pretty good name for herself. Lana's income is enough to maintain a modest apartment in a low profile neighborhood, as well as keep her suitably stocked in weapons and ammunition.

Shield:

After working as a mercenary, Svetlana has returned to SHIELD to begin working as a field agent. She can check out SHIELD resources appropriate for her mission, as well as tap into intel appropriate for her clearance level. Lana receives the usual stipend appropriate to an Agent of her level.

Weaknesses

Aggressive:
One of the side-effects of Subject 6's batch of serum was unusual aggression in some subjects. Svetlana showed an increase in aggression during her programming and training, although her time in cryo tempered that somewhat. She still tends to choose violent solutions as first recourse to solve problems.

Displaced:
Subject 6 has been in cryo freeze since 1950. Finding herself awake now, she is in a very unfamiliar world. Cell phones, the internet, and pop culture are but a few things she won't understand. Not to mention needing to catch up on decades of world history.

Hydra:
Subject 6 is a HYDRA asset. Just because they put her in cryo-freeze, cancelled her project, and abandoned the base doesn't mean they won't want her back. If she's spotted out in public and positively identified, she'll be back on their radar again.

Inexperienced:

Svetlana received her full programming download before being put in cryo, but she had less than two actual years of training. And she has no field experience. So she's well-versed in theory, but hasn't put her training to actual use in real-world situations.
