Quote
"You know, the border between Canada and the United States is a terribly hodge-podged mess. The survey crews spent much of their time drunk, and following poorly compiled data and directions. When the marks didn't line up, they merely joined the two and carried on. Sometimes I think that's a lovely metaphor for how it should be. When the lines don't meet up, you find a way to the middle and carry on."

Profile

Heather McNeil was born in Calgary, Alberta, to an influential family. They later married. Using her political connections, she helped found Department H's Alpha Flight program after Mac discovered Zor-Don's crashed space ship. Since then, she has donned the Vindictor battle suit, becoming a hero in her own right.

Description

Description:

Slender, toned, and of average height for a woman, how you see her depends on where you meet her. At the Alpha Flight mansion, kicking back and relaxing, Heather is most often dressed casually in jeans and whatever else she happens to throw on. Meet her in a business meeting, and she's all professional, sporting a blazer and suit pants or a well fitted skirt. Of course, if you happen to find her out on mission, that's a whole other story: Vindicator wearing her classic superhero uniform of a well fitted full body leotard, striped green and white, with the white striped down the middle of her torso, and an oversized green maple leaf perched over her heart.

History

History:

Heather MacNeil Hudson was born in Calgary, Alberta, Canada to parents who were influential on both the political and economics scenes. Despite her leg up in life, Heather chose not to depend upon her family's influence to make her way in the world. Attending the prestigious McGill University as a double major in Political Science and Chemical Engineering, Heather worked her way through both an undergraduate and postgraduate degree, taking up a position as a corporate secretary in the Roxxon Energy Corporation, where she eventually met her husband, James Hudson.

While at Roxxon, she and James stole the power suit he had helped to develop in order to keep it from being weaponized and sold to Hydra, taking it to the Canadian government instead, working to form Department H, and gather together the superheroes that would later become Alpha Flight, and other such notables as Wolverine.

It was here, that between the two of them, they created the suits that would allow them to become Guardian (Mac), and Vindicator (Heather).

It was also during this period that the couple married.

Under the oversight of Department H, Heather and Mac gathered the disparate members of the Project H team and formed Alpha Flight proper, taking over the mansion on Tamarind Island that would become their headquarters.

It is there that this story begins.

Personality

Personality:

Despite being a red, with green eyes to match, Heather is generally an easy going woman with an even temper. But don't let that fool you into thinking she's not got fire behind all that, because she does. When passionate about a subject, she can stand toe to toe with the best of them to argue her point, get the job done, or simply finish a fight. And then, when it's all over, shake it all off and settle back on the porch, bare foot, with a cup of tea, and watch the sun set. Balanced, thoughtful, and secure, she's a good ear when you need it. Is it any wonder she's the mom of the group?

Abilities

The Guardian Battle-Suit:

While wearing the Guardian Battle-Suit, Vindicator has the following abilities:

Supersonic Speed/Flight - The Guardian Suit is able to reach Mach 3 for sustained speed and flight, and Mach 5 (escape velocity) for short bursts.

Super Strength - While wearing the suit, Vindicator is in possession of super strength. She might not be able to beat Superman at an arm wrestling contest, but she'd give him a run for his money.

Personal Force Field - Vindicator's suit is able to absorb heat into its power cells and provide a personal force field that protects against heat, cold, and other attacks (such as ballistics). The field emitted by the suit allows it to operate in the upper atmosphere; the cold of the Arctic; the depths of the sea; and the vacuum of space without harm to the user.

Weapons systems - Tapping into a different source of energy than Guardian's suit, Vindicator's suit controls geothermal energy, allowing her to melt rock and manipulate the resulting lava and lava jets, as well as create and control hot and cold jets of water and steam.

Sensors - The suit allows the wearer to see infrared and ultraviolet light, as well as magnifies ambient light as night vision. In addition, the suit's visor acts as a heads-up display and ties into the com system.

Computer Interface - The suit can connect by wire or wirelessly with any computing device in range. However, it is up to the user to be able to manipulate the device once it is connected.

Skills

Administration:
While working for Roxxon, Heather held a fairly high profile corporate secretary job, with an eye towards both advancing in rank and a possible future career in politics. As such, she's more than familiar with the ins and outs of administration and logistics, a skill she's had more than ample opportunity to put to use in her sojourns at Department H, and Alpha Flight.

Bilingual:
You don't get far in Canadian politics or governmental offices without being fluent in both official languages. Heather is fluent in both, able to pass as a native French speaker.

Chemical Engineering:
One of Heather's majors in her undergraduate degree was in Chemical Engineering. Coming from Alberta it was almost a no brainer, especially if you wanted to get into the energy business. While she didn't pursue this for her postgraduate work, it did allow her to help design the Vindicator suit, and has come in more than handy in her work with Department H. Her specialty is geothermal forces.

Combat:
Her time at Department H, and later, working with Alpha Flight, has helped refine Heather's combat skills. While she is not the stronger of the fighters in the Guardian/Vindicator pair, she is a very skilled combat strategist, making her the perfect partner for a more skilled fighter, or helping to coordinate missions from command central.

Public Relations:

Heather's background in PoliSci, as well as her subsequent jobs, have honed her skills in public relations to a "T". She has worked as the face of Alpha Flight, both past and present, and while at home in the mansion often serves as the de facto "mom" of the group.

Resources

Alpha Flight:
As one of the founding forces behind Alpha Flight, Heather has ample access to the team's resources, as well as being a resource to the team in return, both as a leading team member, and as a mothering figure.

Department H:
Alpha Flight maintains close connections with Department H, the overseeing body that allowed them to get off the ground. Their expertise and resources are a valuable asset.

Family Connections:

Although Heather does not like to trade on her family's wealth and political connections, sometimes having them is a good thing. She's used their leverage in the past to help get Department H approved and off the ground. While she hasn't had to lean on them recently, knowing that they're there, with both money and political clout, is a nice advantage to have.

Weaknesses

Battlesuit:
Outside of her suit, Heather is just another average, everyday human being. Albeit a very smart, well educated human being with a lot of moxie - just one without any superpowers. You really don't want to be meeting any enemies without your suit on when that's the case.

Roxxon:
Following Mac in his departure from Roxxon with the stolen Groundhog Exploration Suit burned more than a few bridges for Heather, and quite possibly destroyed any future political plans given Roxxon's strong presence in the background of Canadian economics and politics. Corporations like Roxxon dont forgive and forget easily, and while they've not made any overt moves (yet) against Guardian and Vindicator, or Alpha Flight itself, it doesn't mean they aren't plotting and planning something for the future. Revenge really is a dish best served cold.

The Team:
She's not the mom of the team for nothing. Alpha Flight has come to be near and dear to Heather's heart. It also makes her a little shortsighted where they're concerned, and slightly prone to overprotectiveness - especially when they're in danger. If it comes to putting herself or her team first, it's not a contest. Heather loses.

True Love:
The heart wants what the heart wants. Heather has already shown that she's more than willing and able to pack up her goods and follow Mac to the ends of the earth without thinking of the consequences first. It's already cost her some standing in political circles, and most certainly could be used against her.

Unrequited Love:

It breaks Heather's heart just a little bit to know that she's the object of affection that she can't return in kind. She knows Logan loves her, but she just doesn't love him that way. It makes for some awkward and bittersweet moments, especially at times when they have no choice but to work with one another.
