Description:

-His physical look is put out plainly on his @desc. For convenience's sake, here it is!

With features smoothly defined and clean-cut, Drake has a youthful appearance suggesting his age to be somewhere in the range of late teens and early twenties. Striking emerald eyes are likely the first feature to stand out to an observer, both wide and expressive, complementing unblemished skin of a middling complexion. His ebon black hair could be described as stylishly comfortable, trimmed neatly if a little unkempt up top. His bangs have been allowed to grow out a bit, hanging near his right eye in rakish frame.
At 5'10" and with a light frame, Drake isn't likely to strike an imposing figure. Though his body is toned and lean, he isn't bulging with muscles or bulk. Rather, Drake's physique is far more on the trim side, lacking in any excess weight, favoring the body of a runner.

-As he progresses with a group, ideally Xavier-related stuff, he'll likely tone up a bit more physically. But he'll always have a more sleek build than powerhouse.
-Upon arrival, his wardrobe's basically drab, forgettable junk that'll likely be discarded at earliest convenience.
-Future attires will be a little more fashion-forward, if a touch 90s - buttonup overshirts, cargo pants, so on.
-When he should happen to get a costume, it'll be a black bodysuit with a green streak, boots, gloves, and eyemask. Nothing too outlandish.

History

History:

The Rileys had a decent life; it wasn't flush with riches and excitement, it wasn't marked in poverty and misfortune. It was decent. When Frank finally married Sandra, he had only just graduated police academy. He insisted she could pursue her dreams as an artist without worrying about work, and he would take care of them both. And before the year was out, they were expecting. Their decent life continued after Drake was born.

They raised him to be conscientious and kind. They wanted him to be a good person. And for a while, he was their angel. And then Drake became a teenager and something went wrong.

The life of a cop had taken its toll on Frank's nerves. He gradually distanced himself from the family. On the other hand, Sandra's art had started to flourish. Both parents were heavily engrossed in their own developing situations, which left Drake in the lurch for guidance or connection. He began to rebel, and neither parent had the inclination to correct course. He began to spend more and more time with a rougher, more delinquent crowd. And where he had been an honor student, his grades took a gradual decline. By age sixteen, Drake was barely passing classes and continued to grow rebellious all the tune of crickets from his parents.

In truth, Drake felt abandoned, isolated, and unimportant. The friends he made were few, but of a similar vein - those who felt kicked to the curb. Though they numbered only five altogether, they considered their group a gang and engaged in criminal mischief; petty theft, vandalism, and eventually breaking and entering. Though they'd get into fights, they never muggings and murders were never a part of their M.O., and escaping irate police and property owners was becoming second nature. The passive parenting he'd been receiving would escalate into yelling matches in the family, if not trying to determine who was to blame, it was anger at Drake for embarrassing the family.

Things took a turn for the worst that same year. He and his hoodlum friends had wandered into the territory of an actual street gang and had the audacity to spray their own tag on a wall. The actual, much larger, much more dangerous criminals decided that was the line and took off after them. Drake got separated from his group and had the bad luck of running into a dead-ending alley. Cornered and facing down a thug with a knife he had no logical chance of beating, Drake threw out his hands to ward back his attacker. Much to his surprise, a torrent of electricity arced from his hands onto the thug, blasting him down and rendering him motionless. Horrified and confused, he fled the scene.

Mutants were a known thing to him, as they were with most of America by this point. Drake was quite certain at this point that he was one. Moreover, he was also dealing with the idea that he had likely just killed someone. He kept it hidden and became a recluse for a short while, struggling with this new information and dread. But thanks to the imagery of superheroics in the media, he began to warm up to the idea of his abilities and started to experiment with them, testing their potential. Learning to control the power output was his top priority; finer control and variants came after.

Drake spent the better part of the year honing his ability on his own in seclusion. His grades remained at the bare minimum, his parents continued to ignore him, and he began giving his friends vague excuses to duck them.

One night, however, things seemed to change. Frank's nerves had finally gotten the better of him, and he began seeing the precinct counselor. The ultimate result saw Frank entering Drake's room and actually talking to him about how things had been, and how things should be. He gave a promise that things would change, and that he wasn't going to give up on the family. That marked an upswing in their relationship.

It was doomed for failure. The family relationship was on the mend, Drake rebelled less, and they were more open with each other. Despite the pride he'd begun taking in the development of his powers, it took some time for him to finally confide in his father about them. It didn't go the way he'd hoped. After the demonstration, Frank was silent for several seconds before saying firmly that Drake was never to do it again, and that they were going to find a way to fix him. Later that night, Drake decided to sneak out and get some air. On his way out the door, Frank made his presence known simply by saying, "Don't come back."

Heartbroken, Drake did just that. He left it all behind with nothing more than the money in his pockets, the clothes on his back, and the determination to find people he could actually fit in with - people who would accept him. The plan was simple and desperate: ditch Los Angeles for New York and commit small-scale crimes with his powers to attract superhuman attention.

Personality

Personality:

True to his mutation, Drake is an energetic being. Though he may not be in constant motion and is good with chilling, he's an expressive, vibrant individual with a bright personality. His natural state is upbeat and optimistic.

The life of a criminal, small scale or otherwise, never quite suited him. He's too personable, too affable by nature. His shenanigans were born more from a need to belong to something, and a need to be noticed - if even in a negative light. A troubled home and the follies of youth aside, he actually has a reasonable sense of right and wrong, and lines he has an extremely hard time justifying crossing - particularly when it comes to murder. The idea that he had killed someone all but shut him down for a time, and it still haunts him to this day. It's for that reason that learning to control the power output of his electricity was his first priority.

Drake used to be weirded out by the idea of mutants, but he didn't give them much thought. He had enough going on in his own life to really engage in it. Since realizing he's most likely one of them, he's trying to figure out his place in the world. The idea that mutants are a higher being is appealing, but at the same time, it seems a philosophy prone to cruelty and oppression. Using it to help others as a sort of superhero would be his dream, but the general hatred towards mutants ensures he keeps the nature of his true identity under wraps. Even in his efforts to be noticed, he takes precautions to not leave any personally identifying evidence at any scene.

That said, Drake can be a bit of a risk-taker. He's daring, perhaps a little more than could be attributed to simple youth, but not at a suicidal level. He's also, in a word, sassy - quick with quips and remarks, teases and jabs, it's usually aimed to keep the mood light but is just as quickly turned into taunts and insults on an enemy. His gutsy attitude and taunts sometimes mix in ways that could make matters worse.

Drake is absolutely a people person. Life has dealt him a raw hand, and though his genetics may put him at odds with society in general, he cares about people. But it comes at the tradeoff of not liking being alone, and being very open with others. He has a preference for honesty, but is fortunately capable of keeping secrets. Confidence in others is a treasured thing.

Abilities

Aura:
Drake is capable of surrounding himself with either a burst or steady stream of electricity. Depending on the fine, granular manipulation of his power output, this could be as subtle as an EMP radius or as drastic as a lightning sheath. The current maximum range of his auras are 5' and can only be centered on himself. Maintaining any aura will steadily drain his energy, moreso depending on the power output.

Cascade:
Via contact, Drake can discharge a stream of electrical energy over a surface, rendering it between stunning and deadly to traverse unprepared. The span of the surface, conductivity, and power output all factor into how long he can maintain the use of this mode. At this time, he can only stream over a single surface - i.e., floor only, wall only, not multiple simultaneously.

Electrokinesis:
Drake's mutation has made him into an electrical being, intrinsically connected to it. His body is a wellspring of electrical energy which he draws upon to achieve various "modes" of effect. Though his reserves are vast, it's possible to over-extend himself, leading to physical repercussion. Like a muscle, it'll grow stronger with training and use over time.

Elemental:
Drake is naturally extremely resistant to electrical energy. However, as his mutation is like a muscle, it isn't absolute. It would take a supernaturally tremendous force of electricity to effect him, but it's still possible. Though at that level, it would likely be more the force of the energy behind it rather than the electricity itself.

Flow:
Being innately connected to electrical energy allows him to redirect its flow, either by draining power from an object and absorbing it into himself, or feeding power from himself into an object to power it. At this time, touching the object is required to perform this, and being struck with electricity doesn't allow him to absorb it.

-Special: AMP
Absorbing electricity can give him more power to work with without fear of draining himself, or supercharging his other abilities. It's a fleeting amplification, however, and excess energy bleeds off after a maximum of five minutes. It's also possible to over-amp, which can also result in 'straining' his mutation.

Project:

The most obvious application of his mutant powers is the ability to project electricity onto a target. Though it can be sustained, his most typical use are 'strikes'. A bolt can be projected up to a maximum distance of 100' at present, with a power output ranging in effect from stunning to lethal.

-Special: CHAIN
Through the fine manipulation of electrical currents, Drake can use a single bolt to chain up to three targets. Each successive target weakens the bolt, however.

Skills

Parkour:
His experience at escaping authorities has given him an edge when it comes to maneuverability. Drake has a basic level of parkour, capable of using terrain and daring to cut down on travel time, put more distance between himself and someone else, or alternatively, close in on a target.

Scrappy:
What Drake lacks in mass and training, he more than makes up for in tenacity. He's not a stranger to fighting, though he lacks extensive training. He's a brawler with an inventive resourcefulness to back him up. To his credit, he's also tougher than he looks, capable of taking a beating before finally caving.

Stealthy:
By making use of his surroundings or simply minimizing his presence through subtle body language cues, Drake is capable of hiding, blending with crowds, or drawing little attention to himself. And thanks to more practice than any law-abiding citizen should rightfully have, he's skillful with moving silently without sacrificing too much speed. He's no ninja, however.

Thief:

Thanks to a colored past with less-than-reputable friends, Drake has developed certain skills more befitting a crook. And though he lacks actual training, he has a real talent for them. He's a fair pickpocket and capable of some feats of sleight-of-hand. His greatest hand-feat, however, lies with picking and disabling mechanical locks. Electronic locks are another story, however. This also comes with identifying and avoiding security, be it with personnel, cameras, or alarm systems.

Resources

Opportunism:

The only resources Drake can claim are the clothes on his back and an intrepid spirit. His only source of income is the deftness of his hands. It's a meager living.

Weaknesses

Anxiety:
Drake doesn't like feeling alone or isolated. It strikes a little too close to his life at home, and has in the past lead him to make questionable friends for the sake of being included. Even now, it can fuzz his judgment.

Chill Out:
Being hit with ice powers at 0' Fahrenheit or below cause Drake's mutation to lock up, preventing him from using his projections or absorption. This effect persists for a short time, depending on the severity and ambient temperature, but recovery can be sped up with warmth.

Similar to torrential downpours, particularly heavy snowfall can also cause his projections to be haphazard and difficult to control.

Daring:
Forethought doesn't always precede action with Drake, especially when it comes to certain situations. If an enemy sets him up for a snarky remark or sass, he has a very hard time resisting and potentially worsening a situation. And while the need for his life to have meaning can inspire positive results, it can also spur him to take risks. Though it may lend to a fearless image, it could also put him in danger, even manipulated under the right circumstances.

Mutation:
Unlike many other mutations or powers, Drake's is like a muscle. While this means that it will eventually strengthen over time and use, it also means that misuse - such as over-extending - can have physical ramifications. Furthermore, not 'exercising' it can leave it to weaken over time.

Water:

Due to the nature of his mutation, water can be a very tricky thing for him. Using his powers while soaked won't do much beyond causing additional sparks and miniature arcs of electricity. But during a torrential downpour, his powers can become haphazard and extremely difficult to control.

It gets worse, should he actually be submerged in water. Depending on the level of submersion and amount of surrounding water, the use of any ability rapidly, if not instantly, 'strains' his mutation - as if he'd absorbed too much electricity, but without the benefit of having extra power to output. To make matters worse, any ability used while submerged results in the same chaotic, uncontrollable, extremely dangerous electrical discharge. The range of the discharge varies depending on the power output, up to a current maximum 100' radius.

Drake will typically go to great lengths to avoid using his powers in the water or under downpours.
