Profile

As he likes to say, he's the best there is at what he does, but what he does best isn't very nice. Logan is a mutant with an extraordinary long life span. He has fought in many wars, was a member of the Weapon Plus program, and he is a hero. Meanwhile, the Wolverine is a legend. His story has been told around the campfires. The earliest of these dates back to early 20th century British Columbia. Since then, his name has popped up around the globe. No one knows for sure how much of it is true, but if even a tenth is, he's one scary son of a bitch.

Description:

This is not what most would consider a 'tall' man. Or, hell, even average in height. Still, he makes up for his stature with a standoffish demeanor and a seemingly constant glare and resting Murderface. Some folks are into rough men, though, and they might be drawn to his raw charisma and roughness. His hair is dark and shaggy, rarely combed but seeming to settle into a slightly peaked hairstyle. Muttonchops outline his features, along with some stubble.

He's only 5'5", putting him below the average height of a man in this 21st century. He has wide shoulders, however. He has the wrong hands of a laborer, with thick fingers. He seems to be a bit hairy, with dark hair running down his arms, at least. He is powerfully built, with thick and firm muscle.

The man tends towards sturdy jeans and either heavy work boots or hiking boots. Flannel is worn over various faded t-shirts or plan shirts. The sleeves are often rolled up to the elbows of his muscled arms.

History

Sometime in the 1820's, Elizabeth Howlett (nee Hudson) began a torrid affair with Thomas Logan, the groundskeeper for her husband's estate. This infidelity gave birth to a son, James, who was passed off as the son of John Howlett, Sr. After the death of his elder brother John Jr., the young James became the sole heir to the Howlett's considerable estate in what was then called the North-Western Territory. Today, it is known as the Canadian province of Alberta.

A frail boy from the start, James suffered from a number of allergies, and was often bedridden. His only friends were Rose O'Hara, an Irish girl, and Dog, Thomas Logan's legitimate son, and secretly half-brother to James. As the three of them matured, Dog became infatuated with Rose, but she did not reciprocate. This led to the expulsion of Dog and his father from the estate.

Later that night, Thomas came back for Elizabeth, and he brought a shotgun. He murdered John Sr. in cold blood, and James retaliated. It was the first time that James' claws had emerged. In short order, he killed Thomas and scarred Dog's face. Elizabeth banished him, and she took her own life shortly thereafter. James and Rose went on the run, as Dog had reported them to the authorities and James' grandfather.

James and Rose first fled to what is now the Yukon, before finally settling in what would eventually become British Columbia. James found work in a stone quarry. He quickly grew to resemble Thomas in build and stature, even taking his name, though that was more out of necessity than anything else. Rose O'Hara and James Howlett were still being hunted by his grandfather's men, but nobody cared about "Rose Logan" and her cousin, "James Logan".

While Rose kept her given name, James adopted "Logan" in most matters. He became popular in the quarry for his hard work and strong ethics. Smitty, the foreman, even became a surrogate father to him. But the feeling was not shared by all. Cookie Malone, Smitty's former favourite, took an immediate dislike to him. Everything he did, every step he took to discredit Logan, ultimately backfired. He sabotaged the mine. Logan survived and saved their co-workers. Cookie cut Rose and Logan's rations, so Logan hunted in the wild, giving whatever Rose and he didn't need to his co-workers, and they loved him for it.

When Cookie challenged Logan to a cage match, Logan fought with the ferocity and savagery of a wild animal. It was there that he earned the nickname that has stayed with him to this day: Wolverine. As Logan had been growing into a man under Smitty's tutelage, so too had Rose become a woman. Logan had feelings for her, but he could not act on them without sacrificing the life they had built as "cousins". Much to Logan's dismay, Rose ended up marrying Smitty, who in the end had Logan's begrudged blessing. Smitty made Rose happy.

During this time, Logan's grandfather, in law if not in blood, asked Dog to find Rose and his "grandson". And where the authorities had failed, Dog succeeded. Only, not as he had hoped. Dog found Logan, and planned to kill him out of revenge, but Logan proved too strong. As Logan was about to deliver the killing blow, Rose rushed to Dog's side, and was accidentally impaled by Logan's claws. Having been seen using his claws in the middle of the town's street, and killing his first love, Logan fled, disappearing into the wild.

And there he lived in a self-imposed exile. Was it a matter of months or years, who can say? During his time as mountain man, he met and fell in love with a Blackfoot woman. They built a cabin together, and might have lived happily ever after. But fate had other plans. On Logan's birthday, a man attacked, raped, and left his love for dead. Logan tracked the man down and fought, losing. The man did not take Logan's life. He was far crueller. He had already taken the only thing in the world that still mattered to Logan. But now his love was replaced with pain. He was left him with nothing but pain.

When the Great War broke out in Europe, Logan was among the 600,000 Canadian volunteers. He served dutifully, and he was a good soldier. But his commanding officer was scum. He would be sentenced to death by firing squad for a long list of crimes. After that, Logan fought in the Second Battle of Ypres. Six years later, Logan found himself blindfolded, tied to a post, and waiting for his own firing squad. But his was in Mexico. He heard a woman's voice call out to him, asking if he was a murderer. He replied, "... worse, a horse thief".

He survived, freed himself of the now bullet ridden ropes, and dispatched his would be executioners. It was only then that he discovered the woman had somehow slipped free of her own ropes, and was blue! She asked him how he survived, and he smiled, "I didn't". Together, they travelled to Kansas City, where she wanted him to meet some friends of hers. But when she started talking about a bank robbery, he informed the authorities of her plans.

A few years after Black Tuesday, which was the Stock Market Crash of 1929, Logan found himself in the Principality of Madripoor, where he first began using the alias of Patch. There, he learned to become an assassin. This marked the start of his globetrotting. He would travel to Japan, studying under a Master, before heading west, where he would fight in the Spanish Civil War.

When Canada declared war on Germany, he returned to the Devil's Brigade. During the course of the war, he would fight alongside some true heroes, legends really. Sometime after the war, Logan returned to Japan, where he would find the first true peace in some time. He married a Japanese woman.

But she was murdered and he was forced to leave. He had been banned from the village for accidentally killing a villager. From there, Logan returned home, returned to Canada, where he became a freelance intelligence agent. Embracing his nickname, he took Wolverine as his codename while working for the Royal Canadian Mounted Police Security Service (now known as the Canadian Security Intelligence Service), and later for America's Central Intelligence Agency.

In the 1960s, Logan became part of the Weapon Plus program, and was assigned to Team X. Before this, he had compartmentalised his memories, repressing the pain and anguish he had endured over the past several decades. But the Weapon Plus program took this to all new levels. Because of them, he can't be sure of any memory he has from before he signed up. He was given an experimental combination of drugs, telepathy, staged scenarios, and a host of other psychological conditioning. He became the Wolverine, a soldier, and nothing more. He forgot who he was, but he never stopped acting like he was. They may have made him into a killer, but he never stopped being a good person.

He travelled the globe with Team X, performing black operations, and remembering none of them. Because he would regain his memories from time to time, they had to be suppressed, distorted, and replaced with new ones. As a result, he doesn't know which memories are genuine, and which ones were implanted. His overseers found that it was usually best to ground their lies in some truth, however distorted. After Team X disbanded, he was assigned to Department K, an off the books Canadian Defence Ministry. It was there that he was given an adamantium skeleton. He underwent intense mental conditioning.

His superiors were tired of dealing with a man. They wanted a machine. And so they devised a test of their conditioning. The Wolverine was sent to slaughter the inhabitants of Roanoke, Virginia. And he did. Every man, woman, and child was put to his claws. But despite their vaulted programming, their careful manipulation and conditioning, the Wolverine proved too difficult to control. He would eventually break free and escape to the wild. In a way, he returned home, for his wandering through the Canadian Rockies brought him close to the Howlett Estate, or at least their former lands. The manor had long since disappeared.

There he would remain until he was discovered by a young couple. They helped him became a founding member of Alpha Flight, where he served openly as a hero. But it was not to last. Nothing ever does. There was a woman, a married woman, who reminded of Rose. After a time, he would leave them, and leave Canada. He had to. If he had stayed, he would have hurt another trusted friend?

Personality

Personality:

Logan has a wild, untamed personality. He lives life to its fullest, enjoying his Cuban cigars, Canadian beer, gambling, fighting, women, you name it, and he enjoys it. He is a product of his environment. He started working in the mines when he was just thirteen years old. He became a man in the frontier.

He does not shy away from trouble. He actively seeks it out. When he's in the mood for a card game, he usually starts by looking for the worst people he can find. He has no problem socialising with lowlifes because they're the most fun. There's no point in doing it if there isn't a chance to get hurt.

There is a wild and savage animal lurking just beneath the surface. When he gives in to that animal, he is capable of terrible things. But over time, he has recognised this part of him, and made efforts to subdue it. He has buried it in meditation and the adoption of Bushido. He lives by the warrior's code.

He is an honourable man. He has a sense of justice. It has become as much a part of him as the adamantium that coats his very bones. It is his fondest wish that he could become a samurai. But that will never be. He is too rash, too impatient, and too angry. He is a failed samurai, a ronin, destined to roam.

He must travel the world in search of a purpose. Occasionally, he will find one, and he will know happiness for a time. But such things are fleeting. They never last. Eventually, all things must wither and die, but he remains.

He is a rock, unflinching, and unchanging. The world may remake itself around him, but he will always be the rock. He will always be alone. And yet, in spite of himself, the rough exterior he presents, he has the soul of a poet.

He may be a loner, destined to walk the Earth forever, or until his regenerative healing factor wears out, but he has left his mark in this world. He has taken in students, imparting his knowledge and wisdom. He cares about people. He may not be able to move the river, but he can pick out some things that drift along the water, helping them to right their course.

Abilities

Acute Senses:
Logan's sense of sight, smell, sound, taste, and touch are finely honed instruments. He can see farther than is possible by an ordinary human unassisted by technology. He can see in the dark without needing time to adjust his eyes, and it mimics the effects of night vision goggles. He is able to recognise people and other objects by scent alone. He can differentiate these smells in a crowded room. He can hear noises from adjacent rooms, and distinguish them.

He knows the hum of a refrigerator, the noise of a curling iron, the sound of a gun being cocked: he knows them all. He can instantly tell the contents of a drink by the taste of it. He can pick out ingredients if he's had them before and figure out how to make it given a large enough sample. And he knows the tactile feel of an object. He knows its tensile strength, malleability, and density. He knows which parts of a car should be hot after it's been running for several hours. He knows what different animal hides feel like when made into cloth, and he knows blends. All of his senses are superhumanly acute, and he uses them to hunt or track.

Agility:
Logan may carry around 47.6 kg of extra weight inside his body, but it's distributed evenly throughout, which has allowed him to maintain his agility, balance, and coordination. It took a little bit of getting used to, but he's had decades to hone it. Because of his regenerative healing factor, his tendons and other internal organs function at their physical peak, and when combined with his other superhuman abilities, allows him to dodge bullets, jump great distances, bend, twist, contort, or perform similar agile feats.

Claws:
Logan's characteristic claws are actually part of his natural physiology, with a musculature system to govern their use. They are exceedingly sharp, made from bone, and are now laced with adamantium, just like the rest of his skeletal structure. His six adamantium laced bone claws, three on each wrist, measure 0.048 cm by 2.16 cm by 31.8 cm. When his muscles trigger their release, they tear slits in his hands, which are painful, though over decades of use, Logan has become accustomed to that pain. The slits immediately heal around the claws thanks to his regenerative healing factor, leaving no scar, and no blood. The act of drawing, or drawing and then retracting them, happens in an instant, a quick draw if you will, acting similar to a spring loaded weapon.

Contaminants:
Logan is a heavy drinker. As strange as it sounds, he enjoys beer for the taste. But the intoxicating effects do not overcome him as easily as they do ordinary people. His immune system, supported by his healing factor, affords him virtual immunity to all poisons and toxins. He is difficult to sedate, intoxicate, poison, drug, tranquillise, or induce other chemical effects.

Delayed Ageing:
For a supercentenarian, Logan is in remarkable physical condition. He's gruff and unkempt, making it hard to tie down his exact age, but he looks no younger than 31, and no older than 47. And it's all thanks to that regenerative healing factor of his. Physically, he is in the prime of life.

Disease Immunity:
Logan does not get sick. Long ago, his body fought off most known diseases, and he is now immune to their effects. When a new disease is introduced, which is exceedingly rare given his globetrotting, it is quickly fought off. It depends on how virulent the disease is. His blood could probably be used to create a cure for all known human diseases. But it would come at a cost. He has thought about this and the world is better off with life being short. At a certain point, you stop living. You exist, but you've lost something.

Durability:
A side effect of having an adamantium laced skeleton is that the subject becomes incredibly durable. Blunt force trauma is often redistributed from the source and diffuses inside him. Hitting him in the chest is like hitting a brick. By itself, it can be smashed. As part of a wall, it becomes much harder. Even before he gained the adamantium, his skeleton was unusually thick and healthy, thanks to the regenerative healing factor. He's tough.

Healing Factor:
Logan has immense regenerative properties, which have only gotten better with age. Muscles are built by breaking down, letting it heal, breaking it down again, and it comes back stronger than before. His regenerative healing factor works the same way. He has been shot, sliced, decapitated, drowned, blown up, thrown out of moving vehicles, thrown through windows, thrown out of planes, and hit by just about anything you could think of.

His healing factor has closed off damaged portions of his psyche after horrific events and shocks to his mind, repairing it as best it could. But the mind is a tricky thing. Brain cells can recover, but memories are more difficult than that. His healing factor makes it so he can function, but it has caused him pain by removing some memories from his consciousness.

His healing factor works in proportion to his injuries and is automatic, Logan has no control over it. And it has increased exponentially. Just a few decades ago, it took him weeks to recover from when his torso was sliced open. But since then, he has recovered from far more severe injuries in significantly less time. His healing factor can reconnect tissue, replenish his blood, restore damaged or lost organs, and any other ailment you might think of.

Logan has survived some of the worst punishment imaginable...and honestly, not even Logan knows if he can die.

Indomitable Will:
Determined doesn't even begin to cover the Wolverine. Those who wrong him or his friends can rest assured that there is nowhere they can go where he won't find them. He never gives up and never surrenders. He fights on to the bitter end; it's what he does. Some are stronger than him, some are faster, a lot are bigger, but few can match his iron will. It's like the old joke, you cannot defeat him; you can only kill him. And he's hard to kill. In a fight, he will push onward, through the pain. If you stick a sword into his knee, bend it so he can't pull or cut it out with his claws, and he'll still limp for kilometres, days if he has to. He will persevere. He is the Wolverine.

Psionic Resistance:
Logan's mind is incredibly difficult to mess with. It can and has been done, but it is no easy feat. With the right combination of drugs - a huge amount are needed - props, and telepathy, the Weapon Plus program was able to create a number of false memories, often largely based on his true past experiences. Because of his regenerative healing factor, and what was done to him, his mind no longer functions as normally. It can be very confusing for telepaths.

Reflexes:
Logan's reflexes are better than the finest human specimen. His regenerative healing factor puts him on par with them, and his superhumanly acute senses put him over the top. He can often see, hear, smell, or tell by some other sense that something is coming, and that early warning, combined with his physique, gives him just enough that he might fool people into thinking he was precognisant. However, much of the time doesn't even bother to evade.

Skeleton:
Thanks to the ministrations of the good people at the Weapon Plus project, Logan's entire skeletal structure has been laced with adamantium. His flesh was injected with the molten formula, coating his bones. While his healing factor was working on repairing or at least mitigating the damage, liquid adamantium coursed through his body. By the time his healing factor had repaired the damaged flesh, tendons, and musculature, the adamantium had already set. It was an exhaustive procedure that took years of planning to accomplish. Every bone in his body was treated in this manner. That's 212 bones. The three additional bones located in each forearm account for the extra six. If his bones were exposed today, it would appear to be solid metal. There are strategically placed holes, which allow his bones to function normally, but they are almost entirely coated in adamantium, making them virtually impossible to break. In all, the adamantium weighs 47.6 kg.

Speed:
Logan may not seem like your typical speedster, but over short bursts, he is capable of moving at phenomenal speeds. He can grab an object out of someone's open palm faster than they can close it, and he's quick enough to replace the object. When he charges at someone with a gun, he does so knowing that he might be able to reach them before they pull the trigger, and even if he doesn't, his regenerative healing factor will take care of it anyway.

Stamina:
Logan does not tire easily; his system can continue to pump adrenaline indefinitely. His healing factor grants him high immunity against lactic acid and other fatigue toxins generated by his muscles during physical activity. He can sustain himself, remaining awake, alert, and active for several days. He has even fought continuously for over 24 hours. His lung capacity is at peak human level enabling him to remain still while holding his breath underwater for 22 minutes. While swimming, or at a greater depth, that number decreases. When his lungs stop working, he will lose consciousness, but can remain alive through a form of cutaneous respiration. He doesn't have gills, but can extract oxygen from water through his pores. It's a good thing too, since the 47.6 kilograms of adamantium he carries makes him a poor swimmer.

Strength:
Logan's constant cellular regeneration has helped him build muscle tissue beyond the normal limits of a human being, and the additional weight and tensile strength of his adamantium laced skeleton has given him a low level of superhuman strength. When power lifting, his personal best was 1,000 kg, though he usually sets the bar to 900 kg. When thrusting his claws at someone or something, rather than just slashing, he usually exerts around 365 kg of force. He can exert more, but harder thrusts require more energy and can't be repeated as quickly.

Weather Adaption:

Another of Logan's mutant powers is that his body is insulated against elemental extremes. Some, but not all of these features are tied to his regenerative healing factor. In dry, desert-like conditions, he does not need as much water as he should, and in colder environments, he could sleep in the nude. Once, he survived for six months trapped under a glacier by eating strips off his own arm, with his healing factor re-growing it back each time.

Skills

Acrobat:
Logan prefers to fight low to the ground because he has an unusually low centre of gravity, but he is capable of aerial acrobatics, featuring complex gymnastic moves. He is highly flexible, and able to execute movements on par with Olympic gymnasts, or what you might see performed by Cirque du Soleil.

Animal Empathy:
Logan has always had a feral, bestial streak about him. He can tap into it, and use his superhumanly acute senses to read the emotional state of most animals, such as anger, fear, happiness, or pain. He can communicate with them on a basic level to make them aware of his actions and his intentions. Unless they are overly hungry or scared, most animals will not attack him.

Bartender:
Bartending is one of the best skills a vagabond like Logan could ever hope for. When he needs cash, he can dress the part, get a few shifts at some nightclub, and earn some cash, with most of it under the table. Bartenders make good money, and Logan is a very good one. He knows how to make any drink you could name, and even more you couldn't. He's also good at drinks like juggling bottles and creating glass pyramids. He's also a good listener.

Charisma:
Logan has a certain charisma about him. He's a loner at heart, but he's also a born leader. He's the kind of person who can give you a backhanded compliment, or insult you to your face, and still make you smile. People just seem to like him. He has gravitas. He can be charming or he can be intimidating, but he is never boring. He just has a certain presence. He goes out of his way to distance himself from others, and yet, he has friends.

Covert Ops:
Logan has travelled the world, and worked for a number of government agencies. He's worked for a number of governments too. He is a trained expert in multiple types of assassination, computer systems, espionage, explosives, vehicles, weapons, and has many other skills associated with covert ops.

Cultured:
Logan may play the part of the rough and tumble Canadian, drinking Molson, wearing bomber jackets, flannel shirts, blue jeans, and generally being ill mannered. But he is well-read and well-travelled. He speaks a number of languages and he can speak intelligently about a wide variety of subjects. When he wants to, he cleans up very nicely. He may not share his insights, but hidden away, just under the surface, Logan is both cultured and refined.

Escape Artist:
Logan has a funny way of escaping from restraints. Whether he has to use brute force, his claws, dislocate body parts, which is easier said than done when your skeleton is laced with adamantium, Logan always seems to find a way to break free. He's faced many a death trap, but not one has got him yet.

Groundskeeping:
Logan is the groundskeeper and handyman at the School. He isn't a scientist, but he knows how to fix a sink or repair a table. He also tends the garden, lawns, paints the walls and everything else. He's good at what he does, and the work gives him a sort of peace. He also sometimes handles detention, which kids live in fear of!

Historian:
Logan is not so much a student of history, as he was a witness to it. He has lived for longer than anyone has a right to, and he's lived it through the eyes of a man in his prime. He read about the Olympic Games, the Wright brother's flight, and the Model T as they happened. They were front page news. He fought in the Great War, Spanish Civil War, Second World War, Korean War, suffice it to say, he's fought in a lot of wars. When he speaks about the Great Depression or any other modern historical event, he speaks from memory.

Marksman:
Logan is an expert marksman. He has uncanny hand-eye coordination, and is able to use throwing weapons and firearms in equal measure. As he once said, "I can put six shots into a quarter... an' get change for the gum-machine". Which also betrays his age, as when he was younger, there were gum-machines.

Martial Artist:
Logan has been a soldier, a covert operative, a samurai, and an adventurer. He is an exceptional fighter, with a particular expertise in the Japanese martial arts. He has mastered more than a dozen different forms. In terms of just skill, he is one of the finest hand-to-hand combatants on Earth. He has fought people with greater power than his own and matched them with skill. He has also taken on a number of students, imparting some of what he's learned.

Mechanic:
Logan knows machines, especially ones with moving parts. After all, he was already 76 years old when Henry Ford unveiled the Model T. But he's never really been much of a car guy. They're just too big, too clunky. Motorcycles are more his style and his favourite is the 1948 Harley Davidson Panhead. He knows something about Helicopters, Planes, and some of the newer Jets. He can repair him, he can maintain them, and he can drive them. But except for the old stuff, he can't build them. He's more of a grease monkey than a designer.

Miner:
Logan's first job was in the mines, and back then, they didn't have the same kind of safety standards or equipment that they do nowadays. He knows enough to get an honourary degree in geology. Throw him into a hole, anywhere in the world, and he'll find his way. He also knows some great old mining songs.

Multilingual:
Logan is a polyglot. He is fluent in Arabic, Blackfoot, Cheyenne, Chinese (Cantonese and Mandarin), Doopese, English, Farsi, French, German, Greek, Japanese, Lakota, Nowek, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, Thai, Tibetan, and Vietnamese. He easily picks up new languages. After a few hours to a few days, he has conversational level. After a few weeks, he'll be fluent.

Pilot:
Logan didn't always take to flying. He was a late adopter. But once he got used to it, he really took a shine. He learned how they worked, how to repair, maintain, and fly all manner of aircraft. He's even flown combat missions. Put him into a helicopter, plane, or jet, and he'll figure it out.

Stunt Driver:
Logan is a master behind the steering wheel of a car or the handlebars of a motorcycle. He can weave in and out of traffic, direct a motorcycle into a controlled skid under a closing door, or helicopter blade, as the case may be. He can drive a car on two wheels. He may ruin the vehicle doing it, but that's a problem for later. He'll cross that bridge when he gets to it.

Swordsman:
Logan is an expert in the use of daggers, knives, and most especially, the traditional swords of the samurai class, the katana and wakizashi. Together, they are known as the daisho, which means "big-little". He studied under a master. He uses a different technique with his claws, but it is similar.

Tactician:
Logan enjoys a good brawl, but he is a surprisingly sophisticated combatant. He may allow himself to be hit, knowing full well that his regenerative healing factor will take care of it. To him, it is an unorthodox tactical advantage. Once, when his vitals were measured during a training exercise, the doctor reported that his physical and mental state was "equivalent to an Olympic-level gymnast performing a Gold-medal-winning routine whilst simultaneously beating four chess computers in his head". While in combat, he absorbs and processes a wealth of information and uses it as Sun Tzu would.

Thief:
Logan is an out of practice master thief. He knows how to take things that don't belong to him, whether he has to take it from their person, or some a location. He used to be better at it, but like any skill, it requires practice to keep it. He still remembers it, but he's lost a step over time.

Tracker:

Tracking someone or something is not just about the senses. Logan can smell people and follow them that way. But when he can't rely on his senses, he has to put his mind to use. Noticing a broken twig isn't just about having good eye sight, you have to know why and how it was broken, which way they were going. He's at his best when in the wild, but even in the city, Logan can pick up clues, using them in tandem with his superhumanly acute senses to follow someone, either tailing them, or picking up a track that's long since gone cold. To him, it's not just simply tracking. To him, it's a hunt.

Resources

Brownstone:
Logan owns a brownstone on the Upper West Side of New York. Today, it's worth millions, but when he bought it, they were practically giving them away. It's become the one true home he has. He may travel the world, but he always seems to find his way back, and there, or in a storage facility nearby, he keeps his relics, his trinkets, mementos, and artefacts. He rarely entertains.

Connections:
Logan has the kind of connections that can only be amassed through an extraordinary long life. He's saved people who have since gone on to have children, grandchildren, generations have passed. But sometimes the family legend about him endures. He knows more experts in more fields than the guy from Pawn Stars. He gets around. He has friends in lots of different places.

Fear Factor:
The Wolverine is a savage beast that walks like a man. He can't be killed. He can't be stopped. When he comes for you, he will hold your life in the palm of his hands. If you live, it will be because he spared you. For a man who walks around wearing canary yellow, the Wolverine is a fearsome proposition for the criminal element. For some, all they need to see is him standing there, claws unsheathed, breathing, for them to beg for his mercy.

Identification:
Logan has documents, some fake, some legitimate, that would stand up to most scrutiny. They include driver's licences, passports, social security, and other forms of identification. He's memorised the cover identifications that go along with them. They usually involve some combination of James, Jimmy, Jim, Logan, and Hudson, though he does have Emilio Garra and Peter Richards.

Influence:
Logan is a legend. Those who know him, respect, admire, and probably fear him too. When he speaks, people, the right people, listen. He has a history. He is a force to be reckoned with. His voice carries weight, and when he gets into trouble with the authorities, he can count on a friend to get him out.

Jim Logan:
Logan is unaware that he was born James Howlett. As far back as he can remember, he has been known as Logan. But some time ago, he joined the Nassau Police Department. The alias he used was Jim Logan. Officially he's been on extended leave, but he's still on the books and still has his badge. Because he doesn't collect a paycheque, no one's noticed how old his file is. The Detective Jim Logan identity can be very useful to have from time to time.

Katana:
Logan's katana is an ancient blade that was forged from the ore of a meteorite, and combined with terrestrial materials. The blade is magnetic, drawn to the magnetic poles, but it is so subtle that it takes Logan's superhumanly acute senses to notice it. Logan considers it an honour to borrow the blade. For he knows, as long lived as he is, the blade does not belong to him. He is only borrowing it for a time. It resides at a place of honour in his brownstone, and he only brings it out for special occasions.

Motorcycle:
Logan's pride and joy is a stock 1948 Harley Davidson Panhead motorcycle. He's built and rebuilt that thing so many times, but every time, he makes look just the way it did, back in 1948. Whenever he loses it entirely, he just makes a new one. But it's getting harder and harder to find the parts.

Patch:
Logan developed the alias of Patch during an earlier period of his life where he was recovering from having an eye carved out of its socket. He wore a Patch, and that is what they called him. The name stuck. Decades later, the name Patch is a feared and respected one in the island nation of Madripoor. It is also known throughout Southeast Asia. The name is synonymous with terror, torture, and triumph over any and all comers. Madripoor is not for the faint of heart, and this was a bad time in Logan's life. He did some things he's not proud of, but it set him up for life. He'll still make infrequent use of his Patch persona when the Wolverine or Logan won't do.

Safe Houses:
When Logan worked as a covert operative, he had to establish his own network. It was off the books and needed to be funded by outside sources. This led him to make arrangements with the locals, some of which have been long since forgotten, or the group he made the deal with has disappeared. But a few of them have continued, and are used to this day. Part and parcel of these arrangements is that he has a network of safe houses around the world. There are probably even a few that are still available, but he's forgotten about.

Students:
Logan has trained a number of people. He's taught covert ops, martial arts, and helped a lot of superheroes. Some of the people he's helped decided to go the other way, but no matter what course they chose, the relationship between the master and the apprentice is a special one. It never truly goes away.

Teams:
Logan currently serves on a large number of teams, and has served on an even larger number in the past. Name a team of superheroes and he's fought alongside them, or probably will someday soon. He's also worked for a long list of government agencies, police forces, armies, and organised crime.

Uniforms:
Logan has a number of uniforms. His favourite is his classic yellow and blue one. He also has a brown and yellow one that he sometimes wears. It's a little less showy. He also has a black one he wears as Patch. His costumes are durable, but they are made from conventional materials. He's been meaning to get them re-imagined in unstable molecules, but he hasn't done that yet.

Wealth:

Logan hasn't saved as much as he should have, but he does have assets. He has bank accounts that he hasn't touched in decades. Some of the banks have closed, others have accumulated enormous interest. The problem with that is he has to concoct a story about his being a relative. Since everything went digital, it's become harder. But Logan has money. He could live comfortably.

Weaknesses

Acute Senses:
Logan's senses are as much vulnerability as they are an asset. Bright lights, intense sounds, strong odours, and even foul tastes could bother him at best, and prove near fatal at worst. Every one of his senses could be taken advantage of if someone knew enough to try. He can differentiate what he senses, like picking out a sound in a crowded room, but he can't turn it off. He hears it all, and if it were loud enough, it could temporarily deafen or kill him if not for his healing factor.

Authority:
Logan has a problem with authority. When he respects the authority figure, it's not too bad. He can be a good teammate. The problem is when he feels that the authority figure is his junior, less experienced, or less talented. He goes where he wants and when he wants. Trust does not come easily for him. When working for an inexperienced or ineffective leader, he can be nightmare.

Berserker:
Closer to the surface than most men, Logan has a berserker lurking within his psyche, just waiting for the opportunity to break free. He plays things fast and loose, going close to the line, but he tries not to cross it too often or too much. When he does, he becomes more animal than man. It makes him a very effective warrior, but he loses all ability to control his actions. When in this state, there's little that can cut through. Logan's still in there, but he can't get out until someone snaps him out of it or he calms down, which usually means there are lot of dead, dying, or unconscious people around.

Bushido:
Logan first travelled to Japan in the early half of the 20th Century. Ever since then, he has followed Bushido. It is far more than just a code of honour, but that is all that most Westerners can take from it. It is a philosophy, a way of life. Its teachings help him to understand, bring solace, and understanding, to his confusion. It gives him a sense of justice, of what is right and wrong. He does not follow any government's law, but respects them whenever he can.

He does what's right by him. He does not like hurting innocent or unarmed people. He doesn't like killing. And he doesn't like stealing. He can overcome these, in some cases he's very good at it, but that doesn't mean he's happy about it. He will make his penance as he sees fits. Following the path of Bushido may sound like it's a good thing, but in truth, it only restricts. Logan would have a lot of trouble with someone who got to their knees and threw away their weapon. It's also part of the reason he's had so much trouble working with members of the Weapon Plus program.

Carbonadium:
Logan's regenerative healing factor can be neutralised by the radiation given off by carbonadium. If he were shot by a bullet made from carbonadium, it would take double, triple, or even quadruple the time to heal. It depends on the wound. If the bullet were to get stuck, lodged inside him, his healing factor would be unable to repair the damage. He would have to heal naturally.

Children:
Logan has children out there. He doesn't know much about them, hasn't played a part in their upbringing, but he does have them. When he meets them, he may face an enemy, a friend, or perhaps a mixture of both.

Killer:
Logan is a killer. He has no qualms about it. He's done it before, and he'll do it again. He's crossed a line from which he can never go back. He feels justified in the deaths he's caused; most of them anyway. Either way, there's something different about those who are willing to kill. He often says he's the best there is at what he does, but what he does best isn't very nice.

Loner:
Logan works best when he works alone. He keeps to himself. He would be quite happy to live out his life in a cabin somewhere, and he has. But it's not a very exciting existence. Eventually, he always returns to what passes for civilisation. He can work within a team environment, but he has a reputation for wandering off without warning. In that sense, he's a bit unreliable.

Memory:
Indirectly, Logan's marvellous healing factor has caused him some troubles. He has endured a great deal of pain and suffering in his lifetime. He has seen much, endured much, and hurt much. It took him a long time to come to grips with being a mutant. And every pain, real or imagined, was 'cured' by his healing factor. This includes emotional instability. When he could not accept what he had seen or done, his mind closed off that part, walled it up and tried to forget. Memories were implanted, rearranged, and manipulated during his time with the Weapon Plus program.

To this day, Logan does not remember his real name or where he's from. He remembers faces, images, sounds, scents, but none of it is organised. He has nightmares, reliving the horrors he has endured. People have used his state of amnesia against him. He has not known a peaceful night's sleep in many years, but he'd like to give it a try.

Mutant:
Logan is a mutant. It's in his DNA. He will appear positive on any test for the mutant gene. There are devices that are capable of recognising mutants from afar, and he will show up. In addition to that, there is a lot of mistrust towards mutants. There are groups dedicating to eradicating them. He lives in a world that hates and fears him. But it's a burden he must bear.

Poisoning:
Logan's regenerative healing factor prevents him from being poisoned by the adamantium within his body. If his healing factor were ever neutralised, by carbonadium or some other means, he would begin to suffer from its effects. Even with the healing factor, its effectiveness is hampered by the poison.

Public Identity:
Logan has a uniform. He has a codename. But he's not too concerned about protecting his identity. He'll throw down with or without the uniform. There are a lot of people who know him as Logan and the Wolverine. Anyone who got close to him, friends, teammates, or something more, would be put in jeopardy by his lack of secrecy. This makes it that much harder to protect them.

Reduced Buoyancy:
Logan does not float. The 47.6 kg of adamantium lying under his skin makes it hard for him to swim. With great effort, he can overcome this. If he were ever stranded in the middle of a large body of water, he'd be in big trouble.

Rogues' Gallery:
In the last decade, a host of psychopaths with super powers have appeared. Several of them were around before that, but most didn't wear uniforms or use cheap - and sometimes expensive - gimmicks. Ever since Wolverine adopted his uniform, he seems to have accumulated more enemies by the day. Some he knew long before he donned the yellow and blue. Others became his enemy before he even met them, or remembers meeting them. It's fuzzy. He has come up against organisations and his own government. Logan does not play well with others.

Self-Loathing:
Logan's favourite line is that he is the best there is at what he does, but what he does best isn't very nice. There's a certain degree of self-loathing in that statement. He does not like himself, or the role he's carved out for himself in this world. But as they say, you can't teach an old dog new tricks. For better or worse, he is who he is, and he'll have accept that.

Skeleton:
Logan has 47.6 kilograms worth of adamantium inside his body. He's very susceptible to high-powered magnets, metal detectors, and people with magnetic powers. His entire skeletal structure, including his bone claws, has been coated with adamantium. There are people out there who could turn him into a human marionette on a whim, and someone with enough financial clout could arrange for a magnet to be built to keep him in his place. There's not much to it, but there doesn't have to be. It also weighs him down and even with his veteran's card; it's usually a nuisance at the airport.

Temperamental:
Logan can succumb to a berserker rage, but long before that, he has a temper. He will act on impulse, taking rash decisions, provoking conflicts. His experiences in Japan have helped to centre him, to calm him, to allow him to sometimes be the voice of reason, but at his core, he's still a hothead. He's full of anger. It can and will seep to the surface at a moment's notice.

Tragic:
Wolverine is as old as dirt. In the world he lives in, where there are mutants, people bitten by radioactive spiders, bombarded by radioactive particles, and fanatics who train themselves to be the best, his age isn't as advanced as one might think, but he is up there. There are only a few hundred, maybe a few thousand people as old or older, but when you consider that there are over seven billion people, it is still impressive. The damn thing is he doesn't know his past. His memories are cut off from him. He remembers how to do things he has learned, he remembers languages, but his memories are far from perfect.

He has a lot of past, and it does catch up to him. He makes enemies he has forgotten. He has to live with the knowledge that those people around him, those he takes comfort in, friends, allies, even his enemies, will die on him. Everyone he cares about is only transitory, except those he hates most. They have a habit of staying alive for some reason. There was a time he was a religious man, perhaps now he is being punished for it. But that faith he enjoyed, is long since forgotten.

Wanted:

Logan is probably wanted for a variety of crimes. They're either very old cases, or there's extenuating circumstances, but until he's cleared, those unsolved crimes will remain on the books. He never knows when someone will recognise him from a wanted poster. He does have somewhat distinctive hair.
