Conner This area of Queen is considered pretty safe for New York standards, and a Sunday afternoon the streets are pretty full of people going and coming from restaurants or enjoying the warm (or suffering the heat - depending how they see the situation).

Conner definitely likes the sun and the heat. The Savage Land was fun (sorta, kind off) but the lack of sunlight in the Antarctic spring means he needs to recharge a lot. Which he is doing by flying low. 'Patrolling' over an area where nothing every happens. Mostly people-watching.

And then there is a screech of failing brakes as an overloaded delivery van going too fast tries to avoid a sleepy bicyclist invades the sidewalk and slams on an ice-cream cart, sending if flying into a terrace full of people. There are some screams, but Conner moves very quickly, stopping the cart before it cruses a table full of Chinese tourists. There are many screams of panic and a few of wonder.

The out of control van is still running down the sidewalk, though, the brakes failing completely. It is a question of seconds before someone gets run over.
Koriand'r "Oh, yes please. I will take two more of that!"

Handing over about twenty dollars, Koriand'r was standing in front of one of the booths, holding a pizza in both hands. A whole, large looking pizza. The two more she was talking about? Breadsticks, stacked high atop the pizza box. Snatching one up, she takes a big bite from the end, and gives the slightly bewildered looking vendor a smile before stepping outside, manuevering around people as she goes.

Her growling stomach heralded the way, when...

The screeching of failing brakes draws her attention upward, Kori taking another big bite of food. She gasps, though, with full mouth (don't try that at home) when she realizes that the van was still out of control. Handing off her pizza to a child standing with mouth agape up at her, Kori takes another breadstick from atop the stack. "Hold this please!" she says, before giving a brilliant smile.

And Kori was off - leaving food behind. Sticking as much of the bread in her mouth as one can allow, she brings up her hands, catching the sides of the truck - she was hovering, and this was for a purpose. So she could go along with the momentum at first, and sloooooowly come to a stop, letting the van slow down with her. Breadstick still poking out of the side of her mouth, she winks at the driver.

But her eyes go to Conner, and she lifts a hand, and waves it.
Conner Superboy leaves the battered cart on the floor of the terrace quickly to try to get the van before anything else happens. Only to find a orange-skinned girl holding it easily and making it slow down to nothing. Oh, and waving, the waving is important!

So he flies to her side quickly and grin. "Nice catch. Hello! I am Conner. People call me Superboy," he peers at the driver. "Hey, you okay? Man, you need to check the brakes more often. Wait for the cops, willya?"

Quickly said, since he found a more interesting person to talk to. He returns his attention to the Tamaranean. "So, er... who are you?"
Koriand'r Kori brings up a hand, pointing to her own nose. "Me? Oh! Greetings!" she says, adding a wide smile to that. "I am Koriand'r - um..." she pauses a moment, considering. "My name here is 'Starfire'," she adds with a little further interest. Around the breadstick in her mouth. Standing up straighter now, she lets her boots rest on the ground, and takes another bite of the breadstick, as a crowd was starting to gather around them.

Smile grows wider.

"Who are you though, friend? And thank you for saving the life of that cart - it would have surely crashed into someone, and hurt them very badly," she says, her tone of voice upbeat.
Conner The life of the cart? This girl has an odd way of talking. Or maybe carts are people too where she is from? Definitely not from Kansas. "Conner, I am Conner," he repeats. "From Metropolis, I just go to New York a few weeks ago. I guess you are not a native, either?"

Yes, a crowd is gathering, smartphones are taking pictures. Which is fine for Conner, he likes the fame. But soon the police is going to start asking questions and that is not fun.
Koriand'r Star pauses a moment. It was mostly just an odd artifact of a language she is still getting more or less used to. "I... yes. I have just arrived on this world just a couple weeks ago, myself. And I have already found some wonderful friends," she says, her smile brightening again. "Um... excuse me," she says.

Floating over towards the boy from before, Kori offers him a breadstick and a hair pat, before taking pizza and remains of the breadsticks away, having to float up and over the gathering crowd - looking down towards Conner unless he flies too. "So, Conner, from Metropolis - what are you doing in this area?" she asks. "I am looking for food! Would you like to partake in the pizza?!" she offers, holding out the box in front of herself.
Conner Conner watches the flying girl, but before he can follow he is asked for autograph. He idly signs up something and before more fans come floats up to meet Kori. "I never say no to pizza," he points out with a very sincere grin. "I was just catching some sunlight. 'Cause I am part Kryptonian and that is good for me. But... food sounds good."
Koriand'r "You are Kryptonian?" says Kori, her eyes widening. "I did not think..." Kori's eyes go skyward then. She considers, even as she opens up the box and presents it to Conner. "I am Tamaranean. Have you heard of those?" she asks. A beat. "But if you have not, we like the sunlight very much as well. It is a good source of energy - when one does not have delicious pepperoni pizza!" says Kori, beaming a wider smile at that.
Conner "No, actually I am from Metropolis," the young man takes a slice of pizza, "thanks," he adds, munching the delicious, delicious stuff. Then looks for a place they can go sit without being bothered by crowds. "There..." a rooftop, of course, but it is a tall, new building and it seems clean and sunny.
Koriand'r It was easy enough to change the flight path from where they were, to the rooftop. Kori does a little twist in the air, closing the pizza box as she does so - smiling and waving down to the crowd they pass overhead. Some of the crowd was looking in awe - but no doubt there were one or two in that lot that feared the strange aliens from above.

"...oh," says Kori, glancing back towards the young man. Breadsticks were what Kori was gnoshing on for the most part, for now, but they find a lovely rooftop terrance, complete with a little table and chairs. Kori sets the pizza atop it.

"Well, I am actually from Tamaran - escaped, really," she says. "I was hoping you would be actually from Krypton, so you might know the story before it was said - but even though you are not, that is just fine!" she enthuses.

"So what is it like, growing up on Earth?" she asks, munching away on breadsticks.
Conner Conner, of course, has no idea where or how is Tamaran. Galactic geography was not covered in VR Smallville High School. In fact, Kori's question is not an easy one to respond without telling too much about himself to a girl he just met.

"Earth is... oh well, there is a lot of variety. So I really don't know. Metropolis was great and Hawaii was great. I made some really good friends, but having powers makes one a kind of weirdness magnet. Not that I mind much, it makes life more interesting." Pause for a second slice of pizza. "I don't know much about Krypton, I have not talked to Kal-El in months and... eh, older kind-off relatives are annoying sometimes."
Koriand'r And Star herself was triyng to wrap her head around what Conner was precisely. Yes, she knew what and who Kryptonians were (as a princess at one point in her life - perhaps even still - knowing the other species was basically required), but... she has less understanding of Earth, except that it was full of humans.

So Star's glowing green eyes focus on Conner's face, and she nods her head slowly.

"So you felt different from all of the other Earth boys, because your powers put you apart. And you have an older brother, Kal-El - who is very annoying to you," Star says. She wasn't quite talking about her own siblings - but that was a can of worms that she likewise did not wish to depress a new friend with.

Unless he would ask. She did enjoy talking.
Conner "Short of..." Conner looks a little bemused. "No, Kal is great. I mean, he is Superman! The greatest hero of the world. Just he can be... a little too much." He shrugs, leaning back on his chair. "As for the other things. Yes, being different makes some things different. Not sure worse, though. I get along with most anyone. How about you? Do you have friends in New York?"
Koriand'r Kori pauses a few moments. "I do - in fact, I probably should get back to them," says Star, giving a smile. "I promised to share the pizza with them, you see," she says, leaning in to whisper that to Conner as if sharing a conspiratorial secret. Star's nose crinkles. "It was very good to meet you, Conner. And I have heard of Superman - he is very famous, and you sound a bit proud." A beat further. "Farewell for now!" With a wave, Kori was off!
