Megan Gwynn It's a fairy mild New Year's Eve's Eve, and perhaps a perfect day for flying as Megan sits on the rooftop of the school, peering over the edge at the city below. It's probably a perfect spot for watching fireworks too, which she will likely do tomorrow night, but for now, she is sitting on the edge, sipping on a cup of hot cocoa and marshmallows. Of course she managed to deliver most of her gifts so far, but there were a few she had trouble shopping for, speficially Shannon among a few others. Either she was too busy, or she misplaced the gift or it simply arrived late. Who knows? Hopefully Shannon will have received her text message to meet her on the rooftop as well. It's a nice night for flying, among other things..
Shannon Shannon does indeed receive the text message, her phone doing its little buzzing dance in her pocket, as she's inside her dorm packing for an overnight trip home for New Year's. The packing could wait a little while, she mused to herself, as she slips her phone from her pocket to see who had messaged her. Smiling, she taps out a quick reply.

<<Understood. ETA 5 minutes.>>

Of course, her text messages tended to have a very short, clipped tone for the most part, but she had been out in the field enough times where this habit had formed and seemed to stick like Velcro. Putting her phone back in her pocket, she grabs one wrapped wooden box, which had a tag marking it for Megan. She slips on her red and white striped 'Where's Waldo' hat, leaving her little blue braid hanging loose on the left side of her face, three silver beads and all. Too, she puts on her caramel suede boots, having been wearing just her dark blue jeans and cream tunic sweater. The weather was decidedly nippy, but a sweater should do for the roof tower.

Sure enough, about 5 minutes later, she's climbing her way up to the roof tower to join Megan, smiling. "Hey you. Don't get to see as much of you these days... how's everything going?" She giggles softly, very gently nudging the other girl on the shoulder. "When you're not rolling yourself off the rec room couch in your sleep, that is."
Megan Gwynn Megan Gwynn smirks and shrugs, waiting with her own box of fair size and weight, wrapped up in golden holographic paper and a white bow, for Shannon, "Hiii Shannon! How have you been?" she waves towards her, smiling warmly, "Here, I saved you a cup of cocoa.." she nods towards one of the nearby seats, a pair of them, with a folding table between them and a tray on it, carrying a second mug of hot cocoa and a plate of gingerbread cookies.

"I guess it's a bit late for a gift, not that I forgot, but it arrived rather late in the mail.." she makes a face. "I hope you had a good Christmas..Guess we're not really in a lot of the same classes this semester.." that, and she probably took a quick break from her classes to visit her grandparents back in Wales. Maybe that would explain why she hasn't been seen on a lot of missions lately either.
Shannon Shannon smiles and offers Megan a hug, and nods. "Yeah, I'm taking some extra biology classes, trying to work in a little extra training in the DR with the weather being so foul recently... also picked up a part time job over at Evolution bussing tables for a little extra cash. Thinking of trying snowboarding, but the equipment isn't going to be cheap and that's way past student allowances." She holds out the simply wrapped box, which is in plain gold paper with a silver ribbon in classic style. "It's kind of late, but Merry Christmas."
Megan Gwynn Megan Gwynn giggles and hugs Shannon back. "Thanks, that looks super cute!" she beams, grabbing the giftie, but hesitates to open it until Shannon has taken her gift in turn. "Ooh, it's soo pretty.." very carefully she picks at the cute silver ribbon, fearful of damaging the box, but she's always been pretty impatient and soon attempts to rip it open piece by piece.

"Ooh, biology, sounds fun! I've been taking a lot of drama, music, english. I should try for science but it's never been my strong suit. Always figured I'd go into show business, maybe art or music. I should really pick up a part time job though, grandparent's allowance isn't what it used to be..Ooh and Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you! I cant wait to see the fireworks from up here!"
Gwendolyn Fairly mild for those used to it, but freezing for those unused to it. Still, the tower is the best place Gwendolyn has found to look at the stars so, despite the cool weather, the girl has bundled herself up tight in jacket, scarf, and warm hat with mittens to complete the ensemble. The door to the rooftop tower swings open and Gwendolyn appears with, of all things, a telescope carried in both arms that's already attached to a tripod. It might be recognized as the one from the Physics classroom being liberated for a time so she could see the stars that much clearer. At the sound of voices she pauses but, recognizing both of them, she decides that it's worth the risk. "Hey there, you two." she calls, peering out from behind the door, sapphire blue eyes glinting in the pale light. It's so dark up here she doesn't need the goggles, it seems. "I hope I'm not interrupting anything?"
Shannon Shannon nods, and smiles. "Yeah, I've been doing drama club, too, and hopefully I can get in on some of Alexis' music classes, potentially ballet as well. You'd be surprised how physically demanding that really is!" When Megan removes the wrapping paper, she finds a nice little mahogany tea chest, containing a wide assortment of teas both herbal, black, and green. "You liked chamomile so much, figured I'd get you one of the same tea chests my mom gets me for Christmas."

Now it's her turn to be opening the present Megan gave her! Unlike the other girl, however, she is not nearly so careful about the ribbon and wrapping paper, ripping into it with childish glee and an impish little giggle, opening the box to reveal....?

Just as she's about to look at her gift, Shannon turns at the sound of Gwendolyn's voice. She waves and grins, nodding towards the cookies. "Just a belated exchange of Christmas presents. Megan and I haven't seen much of each other since late September." The sight of the telescope gets her attention, and her eyes go wide. "Oooooo..."
Megan Gwynn Megan Gwynn oohs, letting go of Shannon as she peers at her giftie. "Ooi! A tea set! Superb! How did you know I love tea?" she giggles as she toys with her new tea set, but sets it down long enough for shannon to unwrap her's..

And then of course she notices Gwen and she smiles and waves her over. "Hiii! Merry Christmas! How you been, Gwen?" of course she did manage to send her present closer to Christmas (A mini holographic astronomy planetarium starlight projector thingy), which she hopefully enjoyed.

"Didja like your gift? Oooh, are you doing some stargazing? It sure is a clear night tonight..NO, you didn't interrupt us, why don'tcha join us for cookies and hot cocoa?" she nods towards the table and lawn chairs that are already set up. She'd only pulled up two, but likely there are more hanging around on the popular rooftop.
Gwendolyn It takes Gwen a few moments to get the telescope set up properly on the parapet where it's safe from tumbling over the edge, with the rubber feet placed just so and the legs locked so it won't wobble when it's focused. Once that's done she turns to the pair and smiles at the sight of gifts being exchanged and the cocoa and cookies that are beckoning. "I'll have a little of that, thank you." she says with a smile in regards to the cocoa and snacks, stepping over to pluck one of the cookies from the plate along with a cup for herself. "Merry christmas to you both. I've been okay. a little down, I guess. First christmas away from home is always a little sad but, considering where I came from, probably not /too/ sad." She giggles and tapes a sip.

"I really did. Spent the night with it on since I got it. It's why I'm up here." The telescope gets a smack and she grins before looking back at the pink-haired girl. "How about yours? I wasn't there for the big exchange - too many people - but I was hoping you liked it. Same for you, Shannon." Pixie got a stylized cross-stitch of a geometric Pixie, in pink of course, in a small frame. Hand-made as much as she could from wood found around the place. Shannon got a hand-written cookbook of Cajun recipes. All of Gwen's gifts were handmade.
Shannon Shannon grins and pulls out one of the myriad lawn chairs for Gwendolyn. "Joyeux Noel, mon amie! Come on, take a load off for a few minutes. Sure looks like you'll be on your feet for a while tonight anyways!" She chortles to herself, and glances back over Megan's way. "Well, you mentioned liking chamomile, so I figured maybe a variety pack of teas couldn't hurt, give you a few different ones to try." She hugs both girls in turn, and smiles at Megan. "Thank you! I'll have to design something pretty to wear around these!"
Megan Gwynn Megan Gwynn awwes and gently pats Gwen on the shoulder, if allowed. "I'm sorry to hear that, I know how lonely it can be away from home..But the kids and teachers here are super nice! You'll see!" seh smiles, "I'm really glad you liked it! And that telescope looks tidy! How far can you see with it? I've never used one b efore.." of course she loved the pixie and she giggles, "Loved it, it was great, it's hanging on my wall in my dorm! I'm sooo happy I got so many cute gifties this year! Didja make it too?" she does nibble on some more cookies as she speaks, although once's she's done her cocoa, she'll be only too eager to try out her teas.
Gwendolyn It's allowed. Gwen even reaches up to Squeeze the hand patting her on the shoulder, giving the pink-haired girl a smile. "Yeah, I know. I've made a lot of friends since coming here, and Samuel's dragged me downstairs to try and teach me how to punch things harder and fly around faster. Even gave me the yellow and white training uniform so...that's kind of cool." Gwendolyn grins. "Got made a part of the group without even knowing I was. Stumbled into a family of my own. S'nice." She takes another sip of the cocoa to hide her blush and looks to the telescope.

"I don't know, to be honest. It focuses the light. We should be able to see a few planets if you don't mind a little squinting. Definitely the moon because it's..." Gwendolyn gestures over there where the moon is hanging high in the sky, as if to say 'right there!' "Yeah, the moon." She giggles. "I made it. Good thing about having the insect stuff is that I can use needles without needing a thimble."
Shannon Shannon grins, remembering that DR session with Gwen and Sam, having been duly impressed by the girl's gifts, and sharing the pride of the 'bumblebees' with her; that had been a particularly proud day, being able to pass that along to her. For her own part, she's enjoying some of the cocoa and a gingerbread cookie--hey, who could say no to gingerbread? "Yeah, this place is pretty much one big extended family, even to those of us who have kith and kin of our own." There's a quick glance given to the sky and she shrugs, smiling. "Not going to be seeing the fireworks here tomorrow, though. I promised my family I'd visit them New Year's to make up for having stayed Thanksgiving and Christmas here."
Gwendolyn "You have fun, okay. Drink a lot of champagne or whatever it is you do up her for new year's." Gwendolyn grins and focuses the telescope on the moon, aiming it so it's in the general direction and then slowly focusing in on it, leaving it for Megan to look through when she's good and ready.
Megan Gwynn Megan Gwynn oooohs, "Well it looks lke fuuun! Let's see some stars and planets! Ooo do you think there are UFOs and aliens and stuff out there too? That would be cool!" she beams, munching on more cookies and hot choco. "Hmmm that's too bad Shannon, I'm sure it'll be fun, maybe you can see 'em from your family's place?"
Shannon Shannon laughs, and shakes her head. "Knowing my folks, they'll probably get something like sparkling apple cider, which is fine by me. I won't be here, I'll be back in Connecticut for the night. Really do miss them a lot." Grinning a bit at both girls, she nudges them pointedly. "The Captain might be my #2 hero, but my folks share the #1 spot." A wink is given to Gwendolyn, and she giggles. "Maybe next time you'll believe me." To Megan, she smiles, and shrugs. "Doubtful. I'll be cooking up some finger foods for us, and we'll be watching the ball drop inside where it's nice and cozy."
Gwendolyn Gwendolyn is /still/ mortified from that. Meeting Captain America in her pajamas? She nearly /died/ from embarrasment when she retreated to her room and realized what had happened. Sinking down to one of the seats after brushing off the snow, Gwendolyn hangs her head. "At least I was wearing the cute pajamas. God, if I was wearing my lazy ones, I don't think I'd ever live it down."
Shannon Shannon giggles softly. "At least you didn't run smack into him outside the Salem Center music shop. I wonder if they ever fixed the dent in the sidewalk where my jaw dropped that day!" Shrugging, she smiles. "Sure hope that quilt went over well. And if it helps any, we were /all/ in our PJ's. And I was in my lazy ones, too. OH, that reminds me. I do need to get your present to you too, Gwen."
Gwendolyn "There's no rush." Gwendolyn is focusing on the moon now, t hrough her telescope, stepping away so Shannon can look if she wants before the search for a planet will begin. "You'll just have to deal with the whole 'i wanted this last year!' type jokes. it's not like you don't know where to find me, after all."
Megan Gwynn Megan Gwynn blinks, "Captain? Ya mean, Captain America?" She does blush a bit when seh says that, because, damn he was Hot!! "You two seem to be on a first name basis..How'd that happen?" She just giggles at Gwen, "Don't worry, you weren't the only one dressed in pjs when an important famous, super cool hero walks in on you.." she does continue to eye Shannon a bit questioningly still, because she always happens to be in the right place at the right time for big things to happen.
Shannon Shannon rolls her eyes and smiles. "Okay, had that one coming. And if I manage to snag ya before I head down to Connecticut, you won't be able to make too many of those jokes." Megan gets a raised eyebrow, and shakes her head. "Wouldn't say a first name basis. That's his rank, not name. I haven't earned that privelege yet." She smiles and shrugs, peering through the telescope for a minute or two at the moon.

"He's actually pretty chill. Damn near went all fangirl on him that day in Salem Center, and that was pure chance. But I remembered the way miss Munroe treated me the first day I got here. Sure, there was the wings and the powers and all that stuff, but that wasn't what she cared about right then. She just wanted to know the person, not the powers. So... when I ran into him, I tried to treat him the same way, without going all fangirl. Seems to have worked." Bit of a lesson there?
Megan Gwynn Megan Gwynn smiles, "That's cool, I don't know Miss Ororo very well, but I do have a class or two with her. I'd like to get to know her a little better on a personal level really..I'd like to get to know everyone a bit better, but I always feel like I'm watching everything from the outskirts, spending most of my time cramming for classes but missing all the action. I wanna do cool, fun stuff, like when we protected the school and helped Miss Wanda to fight demons." Because literally, that's the ONLY cool thing she's ever done. Of course they are primarily students and only secondarily superheroes as far as New Mutants allows them to be, but...

"Sooo, less crazy fangirl, more knowing the person. Okay, I can do that.." she smiles, "It must be hard, being that famous, having people going nuts on you all the time. I wonder if Dazzler has the same problem..?"
Shannon Shannon nods, and smiles. "That's exactly what I was thinking in that moment, actually. So, I just talked to him like I am to you now. You could pretty well apply the same to anyone, really, doesn't matter if they're famous or not." She smiles and settles down in one of the other chairs, chomping the head off of a gingerbread man with considerable gusto. "She might. So, just talk to her like we are."

Megan gets a frown of concern, and she sighs softly. "There's times I feel like I'm on the outskirts of things. Sure, there's some pretty memorable things I've had a hand in. But when it comes to people, I've always tended to get along better with people either a lot older or a lot younger than me. For me to get along with people my own age is pretty rare. Not even sure why that is."
Megan Gwynn Megan Gwynn smiles softly and shrugs, "That's cool. I hope I can meet him again sometime. So did he teach you to fight with a staff or something? That's cool, I wish I could learn some new techniques..I know Illy's been teaching me some magic, but lately I guess she's busy with other things.." she glances thoughtfully towards the sky and shrugs, "But hey, one of these days, I hope I can do heroic things and do things the right way, cuz getting chewed out by Iceman, and cannonball wasn't much fun.." As for that other thing, she just shrugs some more, "Yeaah, I came from a quiet small town, lots of retirees, so didn't really get to mingle much. But there are nice people here, just gotta try harder I guess!" whatever that means. Megan's not about to just give up though on a life of adventure and heroics, and maybe squeeze in some homework here or there!
