Owner Pose
Drake Winters There's a knocking on the door from outside as Drake has decided to come visit one of his best friends while he was on shoreleave. The video game hotshot turned superhero is wearing his Overwatch bomber jacket with numerous patches upon it from sponsors and teams, torn jeans and a solid black shirt. He even has a wrapped package of some sorts with left over Christmas wrapping paper and a red bow. As usual, there is a bit of a bounce in his posture, having slammed four Energy drinks on the trip over.

"Kaaaaara! I hope you're home." He calls through the door. "I got you something!"
Kara Danvers Kara's parents know Drake by now and have no problem letting him have the run of the house. He is one of the few people she is close to that knows her secret. They greated him, offered him a drink then pointed up to Kara's room.

As he knocks on the door, Kara glances over from where she is sprawled out on her bed. Superman has been dead for some time. She has been doing everything in her power to fill his boots. Without as much success as she would've liked.

"Drake? Come on in," she calls out, pushing herself up to a sitting position and swinging her legs over the side to rest her bare feet on the floor. She's dressed comfortably in a t-shirt and a pair of shorts.
Drake Winters Having snuck a few hugs in to 'Mom', Drake makes his way to her room and peeks inside once he is sure she is decent. "Hey, Kara!" He says with a happy grin on his face as he makes his way in. He hips the door shut, then steps out of his shoes so not to track any dirt along the carpet. Speedsters are not always the most perceptive of what they may step in.

"I got you something!" He flops down on the bed next to her, leaning in to wrap an arm about and smooches her cheek. Mwah! "I got these from New York. " He hands the package over to her.

"Are you doing okay? If you need me to sidekick with you a bit, just let me know. I've been watching the news and you're probably burning out."
Kara Danvers There are slight dark circles under her eyes but other than that, it's the Kara he knows so well. She gives him a quick hug (carefully as always!) then looks at the package in his hands. "You didn't have to do that. I mean, I appreciate it. Who doesn't like presents?"

She starts to open even, not even trying to peek through the package. Where is the fun in that, after all? "I mean you can help if you want. There are a lot of heroes doing it, helping cover Metropolis as much as they can. I know you are busy with the Legion though. How are they doing?" she asks as she gets the wrapping paper offer and starts to open the box.
Drake Winters Under the wrapping paper is a box from /the/ exclusive Macraon Cafe in Manhattan. Expensive. Lots of different flavors. "The Legion are doing fine. Right now we're investigating these large robots that can turn into cars, or toasters, or whatever." Shrugging out of his jacket, he folds it up and puts it to the side.

"They are called Cybertronians or something. I'm calling them Transformers. You know, because they can transform into whatever they want. It's kinda cool. One of them turns into a freaking muscle car. If I didn't think he was a bad guy, I'd fall in love." He flops backwards on the bed, tucking his arms under his head.

"But if you want me to hang out with you for a few nights, I'm free! I'm always eager to punch a car jacker in the face or something."
Kara Danvers "Really?" The question was to the robots, not the goodies. The goodies in the box get an "Ooooh." Of appreciation as she begins to pick through. She even offers one Drake his pick of yummies out of the goodie box.

Back to the conversation at hand. "I've heard of a lot of species but not familiar with Cybertronians. I could go see if there is anything about them in the Fortress archives, if you think it would help. Are they like intelligent machines or something? You said they turn into anything they want? That's...disturbing."

She eyes her stereo system like it's a suspect now.
Drake Winters "We got a database on them up on the cruiser. Looks like Lar and the crew or at least aware of them from you know.. the future. They're from a planet called Cybertron. They love to beat the shit out of each other to the point they've wrecked a few planets. They're a bunch of assholes, really. So, we got a guy who calls himself Lockdown, who's a bounty hunter, chasing another called Blurr. " Drake plucks a cookie out, a red one and takes a bite.

"They're highly intelligent, yeah. Lockdown is like a seventeen foot robot with laser canons for arms. He has an empathy score of zero. Dude's a dick."

There's a glance over to her stereo as well, then gives a wry grin. "Can you imagine if they started turning into more personal objects? Like.. your blow dryer ...." His brows lift upwards higher, trying not to let a laugh slip out.
Kara Danvers "Thankfully it sounds like we are safe from that if this guy is 17 feet tall. That means they are all likely in that sort of size range. Makes sense if they can turn into a car. So no worries about my dryer. Or stereo."

She takes a cookie and settles in, munching a bit and looking over at Drake curiously.
Drake Winters "I hope not. I don't know what limits they have." Drake says as he takes another bite of his cookie, giving her another amused grin. "So .... Lar is still ... having confidence issues a little bit." He says with a furrow of his brow. "He really takes everything so perosnally if something doesn't go right. He's so afraid of making a mistake."

"Maaay not hurt if you gave him a visit and hung out for a bit. I know he misses you. Also, it's a real sausage party on the cruise ship some days you know." His brows waggle a bit playfully.
Kara Danvers "Ewww." Kara is not thrilled with that level of bluntness sometimes. But she does get what he's saying. "You have female members though. It's just all you guys are hanging out together, I'm betting."

She frowns a little at the explanation about Lar. "He really needs to get it together. We can't be scared of making mistakes. It's what makes us human. Er, well, humanity. Or you know what I mean!"
Drake Winters "Yeah but he's not human. You're not human either technically. I'm sorta the only human on the ship... well... Alex is also but he lives with his family." Drake says as he wiggles his toes a few times behind his socks. "I think he's putting a lot of pressure on himself because he's our leader and you know.. I've got hurt a few times and that weighs on him because I'm fragile."

"I just think it'd be good if maybe you and him could hang out for a night. Go fly around Metropolis, park him in front of Supes statue and give him a good speech about being amazing. We've had a few times and I think it's helping, but you know.. I think it'd sound a lot stronger if it came from one of his peers." Obviously Drake doesn't think he's in their league.
Kara Danvers "You are one of his peers," Kara points out. "You're his teammate. Whether he is leading them or just a member, you are equals." She shifts to lean against her headboard, finishing off her cookie and pulling out a second one. Then she puts the box over on the bed between them so he can take more if he would like to.

"I'll talk to him, sure. Just not sure he'll really want to hear from me. Things sometimes get awkward."
Drake Winters "Guys are always awkward around beautiful girls who can throw school buses into the sun." Drake says with a grin up at her. "And I'm his best friend, but you are his real peer. You are both 'Super' men slash women. I'm just a guy that can play hopscotch really fast and I google Spiderman's craziest one liners for comedic effect. What I am, is someone that stresses him out, because when we go into the field together, he's too worried about me getting shit on rather than him taking out the bad guy."

"It's why he needs to hear from someone that can /actually/ walk in his shoes, or at least fly in his cape." With that, he hops up to his feet and blinks with a blast of blue light to the closet, peeking inside of it. "Ha. Here." He throws her red cape over himself, tucking it into his shirt. "See, I look silly like this. It's why it has to be you."
Kara Danvers "Put that back!" Kara demands, giggling despite herself. He does look a little silly in the cape. Speedsters are better more streamlined. "And stay out of my closet. Well after you put it back since you have to go in it to put it up but yes, put my cape back!"

She considers what he said a moment and shakes her head. "That's the thing, Drake. He is the same with everyone. He worries about all of us, even if we can throw a bus in to the sun and take a blast from pretty much most of the beings on Earth." Not all. Just most.
Drake Winters Making swishing noises as he bounces around the room, Drake tries to make the cape fly behind him. He puts a bit of speed on it. Blink! Blink! "Whoosh! Check me out, I'm Super Girrrrrrl! Hey, I saw your skirt in there, I wonder if that'll fit me too."

He opens the closet again, taking the cape off and hanging it up, and not putting the skirt on, but he made it dramatic to see if she'd panic. "He is like that with a lot of people, yeah, but that's because he can sneeze and break most of them in half."
Kara Danvers "So can I. And I swear to Rao, if you put on my skirt, I will throw /you/ into the sun instead!" Kara is laughing though, shaking her head as she scrambles off the bed and throws herself physically between him and the closet.

"Shoo. Go. Sit. Get away from my clothes. Anyone that has powers worries about others. If they are good guys. Villains, not so much. They worry about those without powers. Or with. Doesn't matter. It's why we are heroes. He just needs to embrace who he is, what is is, and stop worrying so much. I..." She nibbles her bottom lip a moment. "Was having some doubts about being enough to fill in for Superman. I made a simulation of him at the Fortress, to talk to. And something happened. He told me he was proud of me. And that I was enough. That I was even more than he would ever be. I know it was just computer programming but it helped me."
Drake Winters "If you threw me into the sun, that'd be /super/ mean, Super Girl." Drake says as he hangs the cape back up, though his brows lift upwards. "Check out those boots though. Those are clubbing boots." He calls out teasingly to her, then closes the door. He flops back down on to the bed next to her, landing his head on her shoulder.

"You don't need a fake Superman AI to tell you how amazing you are, Kara. I tell you that all the time when I text you. Don't worry about trying be the next Superman. Just focus on being the most amazing You. The You that other young super girls will want to be like. That's Superman's legacy you know? Being that gold standard hero that others look up to."

"Because of him, and Captain America, I look up to heroes like you and Lar. I always have, back when I was a normie. Maybe one day someone will look up to me, you know.. for something outside of being great at video games."
Kara Danvers "They already look up to you for the video games. Being a star gamer. That's a big deal. I mean you are one o fthe best in the world. I have pointed that out a lot of times and never understood why you had any confusion about it. Why you doubted yourself either."

She considers a moment, frowning. "I guess all of us have doubts. Maybe I should talk to Lar. Give him that insight that I've gotten from you. And Superman."
Drake Winters "Yeah, other Gamers look up to me, but that's not the same thing as a superhero. I just mash buttons and go pew pew a lot and whatever. But it's funny, because I can walk around New York City and more people recognize me for being on a billboard during the Overwatch League, rather than being an Avenger." Drake laughs as he shrugs his shoulders upwards.

"But to be honest, I'm just happy to help out and do whatever I can with what power I do have. I'd rather be invisible and still save lives rather than be visible and just mentally checked out and doing nothing with my life."
Kara Danvers Kara settles in against the pillows, wrapping an arm around his shoulders as he gets comfy next to her. "But that's just it. You aren't doing nothing. You might be gaming but you do it professionally. While it is enjoyable on some levels it is also work. You have to do it. Even if you wanted to play on Angry Birds or something instead, you have to be there putting in the hours on Overwatch instead. Or watching a movie. Or hanging with friends. It's work and you get paid. Quite well. For doing something you love."

Kara smiles. "A lot of people would love to get paid for doing what they love. Instead they grind away at things that are just sucking out their souls."
Drake Winters "Yeah, yeah. Overwatch is lucky I love their game. Even if I diiiiid quit the team a few months ago. I still do promotional events, but it's really hard scrimming for eight to ten hours a day and then trying to make time for the Legion. The Legion is more important right now. " Drake says as he curls up against her arm with a smile. "There is always a new Dynamite Rave to step in and take my place. Video game champions come and go. But I found something that I love even more than playing games, and that's saving lives. I'm doing it for free."

Plucking another cookie out of the box, he holds it up to her, wiggling it back and forth. "Though I do miss the Avenger's salary I was on. Full benefits and hazard pay."
Kara Danvers "I don't get paid either. I didn't even go to college like I was supposed to. Lost the scholarship I was offered," Kara says as she glances down a moment. The teasing with the cookie brings back her smile as she makes a move to take the treat.

"With Superman gone, I had to put this first. I know he always said we needed a secret identity, a life outside the cape. But with him gone, I have no idea how he did it. It is all I can do to try and keep up, and that is with others helping me." She shakes her head a little.

"College will come later. When I save up. Thankfully, I have my parents so I have all the needs for life. For now. Eventually, will have to move on and stop taking from them. THey've given so much already, to a girl that isn't even theirs."
Drake Winters "You can take online classes. I did and I got my degree that way in video game design. I just made sure to take at least two to three hours a day for school. You can do it too." Drake assures her. "It's not the most social of ways to get a degree but at least I got it, and maybe one day I can make some cool games for kids to play."

After handing her the cookie, or placing it between her teeth, he takes another for himself. "Why don't we all do a superhero teammate situation? We can get a few members of the Legion and we can go crusading through Metropolis and clear out some hotspots for you, then you can get a break in."
Kara Danvers She nibbles at the cookie once he hands it to her. Kara's smile is there but it is a little sad now. "I would love to say yes. To take that time to sit down and just relax for a little while. But I don't get that privilege now. Superman was able to have a life somehow. He was better than me though, more experienced. Someday. For now, I don't feel like I should. I have to be there. Have to be seen. There is a legacy at work too."

She motions toward the closet with the partially eaten cookie. "That symbol is needed and so I'm needed. I appreciate it though."
Drake Winters "It's needed, but it's not 'demanding'. Metropolis is a huge city, lots of heroes. You also need to take a deep breath and give yourself some time, or else you will be totally depleted and burned out, then you won't be too good for anyone. Superman knew when to take breaks so he could be the best he could be. Same for you." Drake points out. "Even if it's just one day, a weekend trip. The smart thing to do is make sure that you are taken care of mentally as well. Mental and emotional health is important for us. We'll make less mitakes."

Rubbing his chin with his hand, he gives her a grin. "So, come on, hang out with us for a bit? Tonight? We can all just hit up dinner somewhere and be normal for a few hours."
