Alexis Carr     When picturing Italy, most people would picture Rome with her rotundas and classical archetecture, or Venice with its canals and gondolas. Most people don't picture the Italian Alps, abrupt changes in the hilly terrain and looming towers of black stone over pastoral country sides.

Alexis had procured the rental of a motorcycle, which had just enough get-up-and-go to make it up the hills, shouting directions to the place she spent idyllic summers as a child. They pass by farms, coralls of sheep with wooly ears and dark faces, and finally they began to see groves of olive trees.

And finally, with excitement, Alexis had instructed Sam to turn down a dirt road with deep wagon ruts and rustic fences to either side, leading to a villa.

The house was modest, tucked between boulders and rock faces with a veranda looking out over the valley below, a terraced vegetable garden and herb spiral, and a large pond where a variety of ducks are paddling about.

Alexis keeps her full-face helmet on, almot shy in spite of the fact that these are her treasured grandparents.

THe house is made of tan stone, with the occasional blue of shale peering out. Its front door is arched on top, split in two and nestled into gray stone, and on the clay tile rooftops atop the villa's entrance a marbled cat yawns and stretches out, looking at the two.
Samuel Guthrie Samuel Guthrie finds a place to park and makes sure it is not in the herb or flower garden, he is smart enough not to start off bad. He lets her climb off the bike and then he does. He pulls the helmet off and fastens it to the bike looking over at her "Ah thought Ah might have to get out and push on that last hill." He jokes with her. He looks around the place and says "Some beautiful country out here hon."
Alexis Carr     "Yes. This is where I'd spent many a summer, my father fretting over me taking off down the cliffside and my uncle teaching me the finer points of riding donkeys through the countryside." Alexis replies, "... and colorful language." she teases, and she pauses as a man comes out of the door, and leans against the railing on the porch. He eyeballs Sam with his friendly, dark eyes, his wrinkled, suntanned face and straw-like hair sticking out all over the place was a far, far cry from the ridgid manliness of Filipe Caradenza.

"Ciao, ti sei perso? Mm?" he asks, his tone one of curiosity.
Samuel Guthrie Samuel Guthrie looks over to Alexis and says "Ok, Ah got Hi, but not sure what he is asking there ." He hmms and looks over to the man and says "Lei parla inglese?" he hmmms and says "If not gonna have to get my translator to say everything." He will step aside so Alexis can take the helmet off and be seen "What ya think Love?" He asks Alexis.
Alexis Carr     "Inglese? This Itallia. Go England." the old man laughs a moment, jollily as he looks between the two, and Alexis draws off the helmet, shaking out her head of thick hair, and she breathes out nervously.

And instantly, the man raises his arms up, looking to the heavens, and shouts out "MI CARA!" before turning back and shouting into the house. A dog barks, and he draws down the stiars -- he's about halfway down when an even shorter woman draws out of the house. She has dark hair, and Alexis's darker skin and dark eyes, and she gives a shout in rapid Italian, clapping her hands and bustling her own way as a small black dog comes out like grased lightning out of the house, barking at all the commotion.

Over to the side, a couple donkies bray, wanting to get in on the action, Alexis calls out "Papa! Nonna!" -- and the grouping is utterly unlike the calm welcome of the school, or the embrace of her mother.

This was unadulterated joy. Papa kissed Alexis's cheeks, then Nonna kissed her cheeks, and then the rotund woman makes her way to Sam, and grasps his hands, saying 'grazi, grazi!' and pulls down on his shoulder to kiss HIS cheeks, and the rapid-fire Italian questions start in.
Samuel Guthrie Samuel Guthrie smiles and will go with the flow letting the lady man handle him a bit, and he grins at the reunion. He may not speak the language but this feels like going home is supposed to the farm boy. He knew he should have grabbed a translator but that would be cheating. He looks over to Alexis and says "Ah do believe that they might be happy to see ya." He decides to add to the talking with one of the words he knows in Italian and calls Alexis "Amore."
Alexis Carr     "/Amore?/" The ol dman questions, and both grandparents stop, and then they switch, "AH! A *Boyfriend!*" Nonna gleefully replies, and then reaches up and pinches at Samuel's cheeks, and begins to speak in rapid-fire Italian again as the old man just grins and laughs.

Nonna walks around Sam, critically inspecting the lad as she remarks to herself, speaking in mumbled Italian, commenting on his height, and then she clasps her hand against his upper arm and exclaims:

    "Strong boy! Farm?"
Samuel Guthrie Samuel Guthrie looks to the woman and smiles, he does stand up and lets her give him the once over. As she asks the question he smiles a bit and says "Si, and Mountains of Kentucky." He aint sure how much she will understand but he tries. He looks over to Alexis smiling a bit and looks around the place. Yea Sam may have plans for around here in the future.
Alexis Carr     "Aaah, farm, Keen-tuck-ee. Horse?" the old woman asks, and then comments to Allegra: "È forte come un toro! Ma è COSTRUITO come un toro? Aaah?" she grins,

And Alexis just flat out turns red from embarrassment, including her ears -- which turn more red than usual.

Alexis Carr     And Papa laughs, and reaches up to shake Sam's hand. "Guiseppe, but, you can call me Papa too. My wife, Lucia."
Samuel Guthrie Samuel Guthrie shakes his head, and says "No ma'am farm for food.. " He points to himself and says "My pa worked in the coal mine." He mimics working a pick axe. He looks over at the turning red and says "What did she ask you hon?"
Samuel Guthrie Samuel Guthrie smiles and says "A pleasure Papa, and Ma'am, I am Samuel, but please call me Sam."
Alexis Carr     "She commented that you look to be strong as a bull." comes a voice from the side, "And asked a personal question regarding size."

And down off one of the hills comes a man who looks much like Filipe, though he has the look of someone who's worked with his hands, and he translates easily about the coal mine and food farm, and then reaches for Sam's hand.

"Lorenzo Caradenza, Allegras uncle." he grins easily, and reaches over to give a single-armed hug over Allegra's shoulders as she gives a slight squeak, her ears still far too red for normal.

"Nonna! Nonna Nonna, not 'ma'am'! Do I look old!"
Samuel Guthrie Samuel Guthrie will actually blush some and shakes the hands that were offered to his first Papa. and then Lorenzo, and says "Sorry Nonna, habit was taught to show respect for a lady." He will say." He grins and says "Ah am glad we could come out and visit here, this place it feels a lot like going home." He admits. He will look over to Alexis and says "He will smile and says "Ah do hope we did not take you away from something that needs done to much."
Alexis Carr     "Mama, be nice to the boy! He's an American!" Zio rolls his for effect, and kisses Allegra on the cheek, clasping Sam on the shoulder before he laughs: "Devi amare il ragazzo, le tue orecchie sono luminose, nipote!"

Allegra immediately covers her ears, perhaps even more embarrassed as she translates what Sam said for her grandparents.

"No, no you're not taking us away from anything, we have workers in the field for now tending to some of the pruning, but I trust my hires. Come! If you've come from the city you must have been riding for hours on that thing, and I'm sure you have questions while the two grandparents fuss over their granddaughter being brought back, Nonna with tears in her eyes as she laments loudly and dramatically about how Allegra is already a woman and they missed five Epiphanies without their granddaughter's presence.

Zio Lorenzo, on the other hand, since he doesn't need translation easily walks with Sam.

"Besides, I know the grapes aren't ripe yet, and the sprinker will distribute water as needed."
Samuel Guthrie Samuel Guthrie nods, and says "Allegra" He has taken to calling her that the whole time here in Europe trying to not call her Alexis so she does not have to explain that. "Told me much about the place, a bigger place than I am used to, we had a decent sized plot of land back home, but it was all for food, as there was quite a few of us to keep fed and caning for." He looks to the man, and says "Ah am just glad we got to come back here, and see the family, you all are very important to her."
Alexis Carr     "We know. More than she realizes, maybe, we know." Lorenzo states, and clapping Sam over the shoulder again as he guides the lad to the house. "So, a coal miner in Kentucky and farm boy, eh? Are you still mining, or have you set your sights on other things?" he asks.

The foyer of the home is rustic. There's hand-made chairs with comfortable cushions, exposed beams overhead with white painted stucco ceilings. A big fireplace with stone and a heavy, gnarled mantle of old wood. Nonna fusses over Alexis as the two work in the kitchen a moment, the younger woman giving a slight sigh as the dog circles her, looking for attention. Papa sets himself down in one chair with a creak, giving a soft huff of breath.

He mutters something half under his breath, and looks to Sam, pointing at Sam, he states something sternly.

Lorenzo translates: "He says, 'if you see my other son, you have my permision to shame him.' -- did... something happen between Allegra and my brother?"
Samuel Guthrie Samuel Guthrie will looks to them and says "Allegra and I are both teachers at a private school, she teaches music and dance, Ah am more a physical ed, advisor and general advisor." When the question is asked about her dad he will nod a bit and says "Allegra and Ah are both mutants." He will tell them. He admits about himself as well. "Her father refuses to claim her as family over it." While Allegra is out of the room he will look to both men and says "If you can keep an eye on her mom Ah would appreciate it, with the way your brother seems to think Ah am pretty sure he will be blaming her for Allegra being a mutant, blaming her heritage."
Alexis Carr     "Well. That'd be quietly awful of him." Lorenzo states as he stands. He reaches around, and withdraws three glasses, and pours a small amount of yellow liquid into each. It smells very, very lemony.

"After all, the gene for it is passed through the father's side, most of the time, isn't it? That's what the latest research said, last I read. Wouldn't make sense to blame the Florin side." Lorenzo states, offering one glass to Sam.

Papa looks confused a moment, and then Lorenzo translates, and the old man pauses, and makes a sign of the cross before he mutters something very cross, rubbing the back of his neck, then he gives a slight shrug.
Samuel Guthrie Samuel Guthrie looks to the man and says "Ah have seen it through both sides, but yea it can be both." He looks over to Papa making the sign of the cross, and says "The powers are like anything else, more what a person does with them, not good or evil, more like being a tool to be used. Ah can fly like a rocket, and punch holes through things like a wrecking ball. without being hurt." He tells them "It saved me and another man when the mine was collapsing on us." He tells the. And Ah don't know what caused Filipe's hatred for mutants, perhaps you do or perhaps it was something that was not around the family, but hatred like that seldom bends to the facts, it is a hard lesson but one Ah and friends have had to learn.
Alexis Carr     "No, he made the sign of the cross because it is pretty much a cardinal sin to eject a family member. The last time that happened in the Caradenzas, is because my great grandfather supported the Facists, and my grandfather told him to go to Hell and smuggled Jews and sheltered Allied soldiers." Lorenzo explains, and he frowns a moment, before glancing to Papa, and then looking to Sam.

"This is perhaps something better spoken of after dinner, with my niece, but to think that Filipe would do such a thing --" he frown sa moment, and taps his fingers against his glass.

"Well. Nothing to be done about my brother in this moment. He can tend his own gardens." Lorenzo states darkly, and downs the rest of the cold yellow limoncello, before Nonna and Alexis return with a spread of cold, smoked meats, cheeses, sliced fruits and cold fruity drinks.

Allegra sits next to Sam, looking livened as she hands him a bright, sparkling red-violet drink.
Samuel Guthrie Samuel Guthrie would have drank the first drink given to him while the men talked, and then takes the new drink that is given to him. He puts an arms around Allegra and says "Hey hon, you and Nana have a good time talking while putting things together?" He asks her knowing that even chores can be fun with family one has not seen in a while.
Alexis Carr     "Yes, apparently we're to wed before leaving Italy and have three children by the time we get back to New York. She's also so very proud of the leap from coal miner and farm boy to teacher and educator, jut in case your own grandmother isn't proud of you." Allegra gives a smile, leaning against Sam -- with the Caradenzas here, it seemed so much less formal than Filipe would have made it out to be. "Zio mio didn't tease you too much did he?" she grins. The fizzy drink is some sort of juice and soda, but it isn't overly sweet.

The limoncello on the other hand was a very strong alcohol.
Samuel Guthrie Samuel Guthrie smiles, and says "You tell her I was the oldest of ten?" He asks as he sips the drink and says "And as for the wedding, Ah think we would need a bit more time to plan as Ma would skin me if we did it without her. When we are ready, Ah want all the family there both blood and chosen." He grins and said when not if. He grins and says "Na, no one gave me any grief, Ah think Ah may have a couple hours grace period before that happens." He jokes
Alexis Carr     "Eh, I'd say about ten more minutes, giovanotto." Lorenzo replies with a grin over his glass.

Nonna leans forward, inquiring something to Allegra, who answers back in Italian, and then she pauses, and he turns to Sam, gives a wince, and then back to Nonna.

Who frrroooowwns... then gives a sigh, throwing her hands up into the air and shakes her head a m oment before giving a shrug, and when Allegra adds something on -- the old woman laughs.

"Ah... she asked if you were Catholic. I said you were not, but you come from a big family."

Lorenzo tacks on:"She's hoping for six great-grandchildren before she goes to the grave, but if you ever want to sit through a two hour mass in Latin twice a week, you're welcome to join our church."
Samuel Guthrie Samuel Guthrie smiles and says "Ah have set through a couple with Berto, but not very often to tell the truth." He will pull his wallet out and pulls a pic of him and his brothers and sisters "This is my family." He shows Nonna, thinking that should help with her worries about grandchildren. He looks over to Lorenzo, and smirks "Just remember you give you open yourself up to receive in return." He was respectful in England, and not to stressed there, but here he seems comfortable.
Alexis Carr     "I have several decades of unrepentant Italian insults Sam, and you're dating my niece." Lorenzo quips, and raises another glass of Limoncello up.

Nonna looks at the picture, and fusses a bit over all the children, Allegra pointing them out, one at a time, saying their names and ages, and a quick little bit about each.

"She says you're a good big brother, looking out for all those wee ones. She's the youngest of Thirteen, and there's only two left in the family -- her and my great uncle Gio, who lives in a nursing home in Milan." Allegra explains with a slight smile.
Samuel Guthrie Samuel Guthrie nods a bit to this and says "Ah think it may have helped with the whole teaching thing to be honest." He admits , and looks over to Lorenzo, and I grew up with six sisters." He jokes back to the man. He looks to the family smiling a bit, and leans over to Alexis "How far away is Milan?"
Alexis Carr     "To the North, about.... five hours by train from the lower station, I think?" she considers, rubbing the back of her head a moment before she gives a slight shrug. "I didn't think to visit him. He's... much older. Over a hundred, and he's.... well. Not responsive. He used to be a designer, for men's clothing. Lorenzo modeled for him for a while, as did my father, before he got involed with professional ballet."
Samuel Guthrie Samuel Guthrie hmms and nods his head a bit to this and says "Times like this I sorta wish could call Clarice and get het to give us a shortcut, would offer to fly Nonna out, but Ah remember your first reaction to flying he teases a bit "Also if not responsive not sure if she would want to head there or not."
Alexis Carr     "Best not to talk about your elders when they're in earshot, cara." Lorenzo states, and gives a wry smile.

"We do visit, from time to time."

Nonna and Papa look confuse, giving each other looks before Allegra translates, partially, and they give a soft 'ooh' sound, and nod.

Nonna then stands and announces something that sounds fairly important, then she laughs, and she and Papa head to the kitchen.

"She said, 'it's proper enough that my little granddaughter's returned that it's like Christmas, so then we must make something to celibrate. So that may be porchetta... either way, we've now got a couple of hours. Do you want to see the vinyards or stables?"
Samuel Guthrie Samuel Guthrie hmmms and gives Alexis a look that she may realize is a bit mischievous "Maybe start at the stables, and see where it leads to." He grins a bit and says "Maybe we can do the vineyards a little later don't want to be in peoples way."
Alexis Carr     Allegra narrows her eyes a momet at Sam's expression, her lips pursing a moment before her uncle pipes up:

"Well. /I/ am not preparing any dinner, I could escort you two to ensure no brigands make off with my niece. In the safety of my family vinyard and olive grove. Terribly risky, you know."
Samuel Guthrie Samuel Guthrie chuckles a bit at the uncle's reaction a bit and says "Well ah will ask one of the questions Ah was considering asking now. Would it be ok if we flew over the area to see the whole vineyard from the air?"
Alexis Carr     "... well. That was a conversation I was not quite ready to have." Allegra mutters, until Lorenzo leans back in his chair, and gives a shrug.

"Nor I. Seems it's supposed to skip a generation, now and again." Another sip of limoncello. "Skipped Papa and my brother."
Samuel Guthrie Samuel Guthrie looks over to Allegra, and says "Oh sorry hon, they knew how ya dad reacted to you I thought they knew.." He pauses and looks over to Lorenzo, and it seems gears are clicking together "So, what abilities do you have Lorenzo?" He will ask the man.
Alexis Carr     Allegra blinks, and she looks at Lorenzo. It appears she had no idea.

Lorenzo finishes his limoncello, and reaching down grabs a bit of meat and cheese, and motions with a shoulder out to wards the back porch.

The back of the house was open, set with fragrant flowers and the shade of grapevines growing over arbors.

If they follow, Lorenzo will look quietly out over the valley.

    "So. Mutants."
Samuel Guthrie Samuel Guthrie he nods a bit to this and says "It does run in families, Ah am the first of my family to show it, but seems there are a large number in my own family, and know a few other family lines it runs in as well." He hmms a bit at this and believes he may have figured out some more about why her dad hates mutants.

    "So. Mutants."

The sun is setting now over the valley, the smell of garlic and basil is hanging over the area as Nonna works in the kitchen, and Lorenzo leans backwards against the hand-hewn railing over the veranda, looking at Allegra and Sam as he scratches his chin.

"I will prephrase with in Abruzzo, it is a sin to deny your family as my brother has. Undeniably, our Allegra here is a Caradenza, through and through. She is as spirited as any of us." he states, and then sadly give a smile.

"So... my brother, Filipe, regards mutants as creatures of the devil, and among them he hates those who can peer into the mind the worst." he states, tapping his temple with two fingers.
Samuel Guthrie Samuel Guthrie ahs and nods his head a bit to this and says "So, if I maybe blunt, something happen while you two were growing up, or jealousy of why you and not him?" He will ask, he does move to keep Alexis close to him rubbing her back softly.
Alexis Carr     "Direct and to the point." Lorenzo states, "I influence other's thoughts. That's how I recovered my uncle's fashion business, and impressed upon him to make us 'Rustic boys' models. How the winery grew and began to be marketed

Allegra seems to falter, just a little bit, leaning against Sam a moment.

"Once I insinuated it's how Filipe got into the ballet, and that was the end of our friendly brotherhood."
Samuel Guthrie Samuel Guthrie hmms and frowns a bit to this and says "Well, Ah will be honest still, not a fan of how you used your powers. Ah have always been taught telepaths should be very ... careful with their abilities, Ah have seen good and bad uses both, but Ah have to ask, he was ok with the use of abilities, until then?
Alexis Carr     "I influence. I don't make them do anything they didn't already consider. Just... hedge the bets. It enabled me to save my family from poverty, from losing our ancestral lands." Lorenzo gives a wry little smile. "... and he didn't know. Our grandfather was a strongman. He was able to lift full wine barrels with one arm, and walk away with them. Before him, we had a great aunt who glowed in the dark and could see in the darkest of caves." he gives a shrug.

"We called them 'gifted', or 'witches', Strega, but to call them mutants now, would probably be correct."
Samuel Guthrie Samuel Guthrie hmms and nods a bit and says "Well actually him not knowing you were doing that does give him a bit of redemption in my eyes, I mean still hateful, possibly jealous, and truly not a way to treat family but at least he was not ok with it till you questioned his ability, if that makes sense." He hmmms, a bit in thought. "Ah will admit, Ah wonder if he has ever tested himself, some abilities can be hard to detect." He looks to the other man and says "Does make hating him harder though, he is a jack ass, but he did create the most wonderful thing ever.
Alexis Carr     "Well, Sam, you're a brother, you might not be old enough to have had a couple of rounds with a sibling and to rib them. I never used my power for the good of *one* person." Lorenzo states dryly.

"I save my uncle's company, and two hundred employees. I saved my family's vinyard, and with it the fortune that will pass on to the next generation. Never have I used my power to influence thoughts and hedge them to one side of the consideration for *personal* gain. My brother's skill is his own. His insecurity is his own as well."

Though at the comment that Filipe Caradenza created the most wonderful thing ever, he gives a snort, and pours himself another drink.
Samuel Guthrie Samuel Guthrie looks to the man and says "Oh Ah have had a few go arounds specially with Josh, Ah can under stand it, and Ah aint saying what ya did with ya powers is wrong. Maybe at times a bit on the fence, but truth be told totally under stand doing it for family." He looks at the other man and will wonder something but will wait till they are alone to ask the other question that comes to mind. "So Filipe cut off connections with you as well, or was he trying to ignore it till it hit him again, that Alexis.. err Allegra is a mutant?
Alexis Carr     "To say that my brother and I do not see eye to eye is not just a statement upon his height." Lorenzo replies wryly, and he gives a small laugh. "Yes, he cut connections with me, but not our parents. I tended to find myself other places to sleep if he was visiting. The upper loft in the donkey barn, for instance." he gives a laugh. "I don't mind the company there; they're much better tempered and not quite as stubborn." he explains.

Allegra opens her mouth, and then closes it, and she sits down a moment in one of the cushioned chairs, and looks down.

"Zio Lorenzo... why didn't you say anything?"
Samuel Guthrie Samuel Guthrie will rub a hand across Alexis's shoulders, and says "Well Ah would guess, as he said, expected it to skip either from the generation thing or the whole fact ya dad did not seem to be a mutant." He rubs her shoulders a bit more "Also if Ah am guessing, he did not want to give ya dad reason to not let you come and see him and your grandparents."
Alexis Carr     "... because your father had already poisoned your mind against mutants, and I refused to be the cause of your nightmares, passerotta." Lorenzo replies, and he gives a small, sad smile. "I should have known something had happened when your grandmother didn't want you to visit without her anymore. "My brother would never say a word, because of what it had done for the family. For our family. After all, if he suspecte I would use my powers for his benefit, then it would come to reason I would use them for my unique benefit. Which may have happened, once or twice, as a teenager."

He pulls a new bottle out from behin the mantle of the exterior fireplace, and pours.

This is not limoncello. This smells distinctly medicinal and herby, and he offers the bottle to Sam.
Samuel Guthrie Samuel Guthrie will smell it and pout himself some in the smaller glass used for the limoncello. " He looks to Alexis and says "Sorry Ah told them before you were ready hon, I thought they knew from the conversation earlier." He will hand the bottle back to Lorenzo, and takes a sip of the new booze. "It does seem everyone here cares alot for ya hon.""
Alexis Carr     It tastes just like it smells. Medicinal and herby and *STRONG*. It kicks like a mule.

Allegra wisely does not accept any, but sits with her fizzy drink long having lost its fizz, and breathes out quietly.

"I spent five years of my life convinced my family would hate me for what I was because of my father, because of what he would sya about mutants... I... I just..." she whispers, and she brings her palm t o her eye, wiping a hand accross it.

"I need some time." she replies, standing up sudenly and running back towards the driveway.

"Let her go. It'll take time to process." Lorenzo states, leaning back and drinking more.
Samuel Guthrie Samuel Guthrie does want to chase after her. He stood, and looks out after her "It took me some doing to get her to come out and see both sides of the family. She was hiding from her ma's side as well." He looks to the other man, and says "Can Ah ask ya something no insult ment but trying to make sure of something?"
Alexis Carr     "You can ask anything you would like, giovantto," the man replies, giving a grin as he brings the glass to his lips again, "There's never any promise of an answer."
Samuel Guthrie Samuel Guthrie looks over to the man and says "Do you think Gio might be able to be helped if had a full fledged telepath have a look at him? I am not trying to say your powers had anything to do with his state but if you have mental connections you might have a feel for it.
Alexis Carr     "My uncle Gio is what you would call Catatonic, a level-four Alzhimer's patient." the man gives a smile, and claps Sam on the shoulder. "But thank you. He rests peacefully and we have been ready for some time to send him back to God."
Samuel Guthrie Samuel Guthrie nods his head a bit to this and says "Ah guess is one of my things Ah want to help folks. "Another question, when Ah am ready, since I know her dad would no approve, would it be considered all right to ask Papa for her hand?"
Alexis Carr     "I'd say you had better ask her for her hand." Lorenzo replies ruefully, "But yes. Asking the patriarch of the family would mean a lot, you would go to him and say, 'Guiseppe, your granddaughter is beautiful and graceful, and has blessed me with her heart. Would you allow me to ask her to bless me with her hand in Holy Matrimony?' and then you have to go through three years of Catholic School to be married in a Catholic Church, at least four confessions and learn Italian."
Samuel Guthrie Samuel Guthrie nods, and says "Oh I would make sure she was ready and going to say yes before I did it, and not sure about the church part, but Sto imparando a parlare italiano lentamente ma sto imparando." He finishes looking over to the other man, at one of the sentences he has practiced.
Alexis Carr     ""Il tuo italiano non è poi così male, ma il tuo accento è orribile, giovanotto!" Lorenzo laughs gleefully, and raises a glass to the lad before he leans back more.

"So, this school that you two teach at -- mutant friendly, then?" he inquires. "Should be a place here like that."
Samuel Guthrie Samuel Guthrie 's brow raises a bit as he thinks he got at least most of it, "I don't think you told me my apricot was smelly." He grins a bit and says "Problem is need to be somewhat quiet about them to keep people from targeting them. Might need to figure out a hogworts for Europe.
Alexis Carr     "I said your accent was horrible, giovanotto." Lorenzo gives a grin, and toasts Sam a moment before he considers.

"It would have been nice, perhaps, especially with so many being born now, coming into their own. Look out over her, in Abruzzo, this province gives shelter to the grapes we grow, and have grown, since before the Romans founded their Eternal City." he remarks. "it has seen its share of woes, but its share of hopes and miracles too."
Samuel Guthrie Samuel Guthrie nods, and says "Right now, our school can not take as many students as wished but we do get some from around the world. I do wonder if part of the goal with us is us spreading the knowledge and hope back to where we came from." He looks over to Alexis still.
Alexis Carr     "Mmn. Must be expensive, keeping up with a school like that. But it's agreeable to Allegra?" he questions, turning his gaze back to Sam as he weighs options.
Samuel Guthrie Samuel Guthrie 's brow raises "The school there or her and me, or what, sorry think I lost myself in thought a moment
Alexis Carr     "Ah, I was not clear. She enjoys teaching, yes?" Lorenzo questions with a little smile as he leans back in his chair. "And you as well, I suppose, she agrees with you."
Samuel Guthrie Samuel Guthrie nods a bit and says "Yea, I believe she does, I do hope though she maybe able to get to play some, I have been looking into maybe some smaller classical venues, I think she would enjoy it.
Alexis Carr     "She would probably enjoy it very much. She is like her mother in that way -- loves the performance. To command an audience, but oh, such brilliant women they are. I once had the opportunity to see them perform together, and you can see the love and pride in her mother's eyes with every note grow. So-- ... I have not heard the tale of how you came to know my little sparrow. You did not know she was weathly?"
Samuel Guthrie Samuel Guthrie shakes his head a bit and says "No, to be honest at the time the only wealth she had was the love in her heart and soul. We actually first ran into one another with her admiring a motorcycle Ah had restored, and started talking and the more Ah got to know her the more Ah liked her. When Ah heard her play it was familiar and actually figured out who she was before she told me."
Alexis Carr     "And the fact that she raised money, unknowingly albeit, against mutant kind does not weigh on you?" Lorenzo questions, pursing his lips a moment as he gives a smile. "Ah, well. a pretty girl attracted by some fine machinery. Truly, an American love story." Lorenzo teases.
Samuel Guthrie Samuel Guthrie shakes his head a bit and says "No, cause I know her, and what's in her heart to be honest, I think it bothers her than it bothers me, but I was used once by someone who hated mutants as well, he was not kin and not as long but it did happen
Alexis Carr     "I imagine it does bother her quite a bit, in fact." Lorenzo replies with a smile, and he straightens. "Well. Nonna would be getting dinner ready, in the mean time I can at least show you to your room."
Samuel Guthrie Samuel Guthrie looks over and says "Well let me go grab our bags." He tells the man and heads towards the bike to unpack it and yea check on Alexis.
Alexis Carr     Alexis is out there, her jacket on the bike, her back to the house as she sat, in a gnarled tree, about ten feet up and off the ground, her legs dangling as she looked out over the valley. Her fingers were curled in her lap, and it appeared she had been crying.

A couple of sheep bleat, though one angry looking ram may be sizing Sam up as an enemy.
Samuel Guthrie Samuel Guthrie keeps an eye on the Ram, ready to let it realize ramming him might be a bad idea. He walks over to the tree, and will reach up to take Alexis' ankle in hand "Hey you." He will say looking up to her.
Alexis Carr     "Hullo, Sam." she replies quietly, not looking down at him as she sits in the tree.

"I used to climb this tree all the time, when my father wasn't looking. The end of the branch hangs out over a cliffside, and he was always concerned I would fall into the valley below. He would not let me try anything he wasn't sure I could find sucsess in... but Zio, and Nonna and Papa would always let me run about with scratched-up knees and broken nails and let me climb. They were not afraid to see me fail, and try again." she frowns a moment.

"... do you think he ever loved me, Sam?"
Samuel Guthrie Samuel Guthrie nods his head and says "Yea, I think there is probably even some part that still does. The over protectiveness kept ya from getting hurt, but also kept you needing him. I think he wanted to keep his little girl, was scared of loosing you to mutanthood, womanhood, rock and roll, all of it. Right now his fear and anger mask that love but maybe one day..
Alexis Carr     "... thank you Sam. I needed that." Alexis replies, and she smiles slightly, turning and leaning over to look down at sam's smiling face and blonde hair, and she eases herelf down, hanging from the tree for a moment as she regards him.

"At least now I have someone who I know will leap after me should I fall."
Samuel Guthrie Samuel Guthrie will look at her, and reach for her, and says "I would leap after you to save you, even if I could not fly love." He grins at her, and says "Fixing to be shown to rom, not sure if we are bedding together or not, not sure which is winning properity or nonna's want for great grand children." He jokes
Alexis Carr     "Propriety." Lorenzo's voice rings out. "Your room is off the veranda, giovantto. Passerotta, your room is the same it has been."

"Si, grazi Zio." Alexis gives a smile, and drops into Sam's waiting arms, holding against him quietly, and she gives a small blush.

"My bed's too short for you regardless."
Samuel Guthrie Samuel Guthrie grins and will say nothing about Alexis coming to his, but will hold her close, and kisses the top of her head and rubs her back for a bit, and says "Well lets get things put up, Ah got a feeling being late for dinner or not eating at least three helpings might get us in trouble." He grins at Alexis, and gets the things off the bike.
Alexis Carr     "A fate worse than death!" Lorenzo confirms with a laugh, and reaches to help with the bags. "I certainly hope you're hungry. You know what they say about Italian cooking!"
Samuel Guthrie Samuel Guthrie 's brow raises a bit and says "Besides it is good?"
Alexis Carr     "Nonna cooks for twenty." Allegra gives a small smile, and reaches up to brush her fingers against Sam's cheek.

    "So, yeah, hope you're hungry."
Samuel Guthrie Samuel Guthrie will smile and as the head to the rooms where he can store stuff, he asks "Should I change for dinner or is this ok?" He asks, wanting to present the best he can for the family.
Alexis Carr     "Well. If you were to wear nothing then Nonna would get her answer on if you are built like a bull." Lorenzo sing-songs.

"ZIO!!" Allegra scandalizes, as Nonna's voice rings out from another room in the house.
