Jean Grey It was a busy day yesterday with shopping, and then swinging over to Logan's right after in order to help with repairing the cabin. Jean hadn't had a chance to actually put much away. There are several bags on her bed - American Eagle, Oscar De La Renta, Bottega Veneta. The price tag increased rapidly. Laid out on her bed is an ivory mid-length dress decorated with an assortment of tastefully done flowers in rose and blue, and a dramatic shift in the black boots next to them with golden metal heels that look like subtle flames.

She'd recently showered and gotten dressed in a simple, long black shift dress. Hanging on her dresser is a professor's robe, waiting for the ceremony later in the morning. Heavy black velvet and satin, with a draping three foot hood lined with gold for the degree in psychology she'd recently (finally) finished. The inside satin is in the expected Xavier's blue and gold with subtle X's embroidered on either sleeve, and she's still got her honors tassels from when she graduated so many years past.

She's sitting at a makeshift dressing table, working out the snags in her hair that's been trimmed up from a long lion's made to just past her shoulders, adorned with new subtle highlights of brighter gold and darker red among her natural gingerness. She's got some make up laid out, nothing too dramatic, and some jewelry she must intend to wear.
Scott Summers They arrived late from Logan's cabin last night and Scott was exhaused. He went straight to bed instead of spending the night for a change. At least the X-Men's fuzzy warrior is no longer looking to take off, /again/. Having woke up and took a quick shower to rinse the day away, he heads to her door and knocks on it lightly. "Hey Jean, it's Scott." He's wearing a pair of sleep pants and a white t-shirt, with his hair still a bit wet but at least brushed neatly. He'll throw on more proper clothes later the closer the ceremonies approach.

Nudging the door open, he steps inside and takes a look at all the bags and clothes, his eyes widening from behind his red glasses. "Huh. Do a little .. shopping last night?" He asks with a bemused expression. As he spies some of the bags, he sputters out. "Jean? Some of these .. cost as much as mortgage payments! Either I need to ask The Professor for a raise, or you stole someone's credit card. How can you afford this?"

He isn't angry, he's just surprised. He's never known Jean to go out and make these types of purchases.
Jean Grey "I love how you still announce yourself." Jean teases him gently as she looks over her shoulder while she works just a bit of cream in her hair to tame some of the wild frizz. "Full well knowing that I know you're there, but that's why I love you."

She watches his expressions shift as he reviews the bags, and she at least has the decency to flush and clear her throat quietly as she says, "We may have gone a little overboard. Alexis was along for a bit of it, but it was mostly Andrea and I. I'd invited her out for a break since I was looking to refresh my clothes some, and she got the itch to stretch her business card limit." Thankfully, it's only the floral dress, boots, and a belt that look to be the bank breakers. "But that's rude, assuming that I of all people would steal a credit card."
Scott Summers "I.. you .. you went shopping with a student and you let her buy you.." Scott plucks up a price tag and peers down at it. "This dress is almost three grand." He rubs a hand along his face, then lets out a heavy sigh.

"Jean, I don't know if .. you know what? I don't even care anymore." He says with an amused noise in his throat. "The two of you together is like fire and fire. There's no holding either of you back once you get a task set. You going to miss her?" He asks as he puts the dress back down, /carefully/. "I know I am. Going to miss all of them. The years are just whizzing by almost too quickly for us these days."

His eyes roam along the boots appreciatively, chuckling.
Jean Grey "She insisted. And technically, she wasn't a student any longer." Jean points out. "The ceremony itself is just a little later with everything that had been going on, but classes are done. She... felt she needed to get me something, to thank me for everything. We's going to be donating all of our old clothes to the school's stash, rebuild that some."

She sets down her brush as she leans back into her chair, glancing away from Scott and to the mirror in front of her. "I always miss them. We're sending out kids out into the world to fend for themselves, to make their way. I hate not having them here to protect them, and it's killing me to hear ones like Shannon and Andrea be.... so ready to... *die* for the dream, to see mutants be open and free. It just makes me want to scream, to know that that innocence has been lost. We were raised to be soldiers. I just wish they didn't have to be."
Scott Summers "She insisted? Jean Grey. Are you telling me that you let an eighteen year old girl have their way with you?" Scott's lips turn upwards into another grin. Shaking his head, he starts to fold and put some of the clothes to the side for later.

"I think we know that Andrea is cut from a different cloth than most of the other students. She has gone through a lot in her short life. She grew up quick. It will also be nice to have someone like out there with such a public image representing us in a positive way. But you know, when we were their age, we wanted to die for the dream also. I was the plucky and obedient boyscout and you were headstrong student who wanted to barrel through everything. We live in a world of Supermen, Avengers and X-Men now. Of course these kids with their great power wants to make a difference with it, once they are shown that they /can/ be great. It's what Xavier's does. It emboldens young minds."

Sliding his arms around her from behind, he leans down and kisses the top of her head. "We just have to make sure to set realistic expectations with all of them, of course. And .. keep track of them once they leave to make sure they don't get too cheeky and blow up a building trying to get a cat out of a tree."
Jean Grey "Hey, it's nice to just feel like a normal girl once in awhile and... forget." Jean says in mock defensiveness, though it falters as she lets out a long breath. She leans her head back, resting it against him and half closing her eyes with the kiss.

"You're still the boyscout and I'm still the stubborn one. But I know. I know they want to be heroes and make a change. It's different when *we* want to go save the world, but when its our figurative kids then I just want to mama bear the entire situation. But, I can't. Of course we'll watch over them, and I've told them all countless times that our doors are always open, but... I gotta let them spread their wings. Ugh!"

She huffs noisily as she reaches up to lay her arms over his, giving him a makeshift hug as she opens her eyes to look up at him. "Sorry, I get all emotional on graduation days. All I see is all of us and everything that's happened and just stew on what their futures will hold. But you're right, like always. All we can do is make sure they know we're there for them."
