Owner Pose
Ted Kord Sometimes one has to take the reigns if they want something done the way they want it. For the most part, Ted has kept his hands off the high-stakes day-to-day running of his business where /actual/ business is involved and left it in the hands of those better suited than him.

But finding a new building, or should we say an OLD building, that he can refurbish into the new KORD Headquarters? Nope, thats all on him. And he wouldn't have it any other way. Why? Because he has a vision.. Well, sort of. He doesn't want to build some NEW hi-tech wonder like Stark or Luthor. HE wants to show people that his designs, and those of his company, can /reinvigorate/ something.. fix it... Not to /destroy/ something but to /revitalize/ it.

So now he stands at the base of the olf Fordham Tower (completely fictional, btw). 52 stories tall of cheap residential building. Technically taller than Tracey Towers, the top 12 stories have never been habitable and the building has been mostly 'abandoned' for a decade.

LEaning back against a two-tone blue high-tech car that looks like it should belong in a Sci-Fi movie, Ted looks up at the building.. then at the surroundings... tapping his chin. He does stand out somewhat, being dressed in a business power-suit that matches the car, though no tie... No security, though, as one would expect for someone of his tax-bracket.
Joan Not long after Ted gets here, a Taxi pulls up, dropping off a woman in her mid-twenties. Dressed in jeans, a work shirt, boots, and gloves, the brown haired woman looks ready for some construction. All that's needed is the ha- Oh, there are a couple in her hands.

To help Ted with his decision making process, his assistant Tess looked around for an available consultant who has a knowledge of buildings. Joan fits the bill! And the budget. By the time she was booked Kord was already on the way out which led to her having to show up by other means. Hopefully she can hitch a ride back.

She walks over, looking to the suit. "Mr. Kord?"
Ted Kord A little lost in his musings, Ted didn't notice the cab puill up behind him. So when Joan speaks he releases a 'Gah!' and quickly turns around, hand on his chest.

"YES?!?" he gets out, his voice cracking a bit. Then he straightens down his coat, clearing his throat and tries again. "Yes. I'm Ted Kord. And you must be Ms Wright?" he asks, flashing her a smile, hoping to cover up his momentary and embarrasing startlement. He watches the cab pull away and frowns a bit. "And if so, I hope you send us an invoice for you transport as well. I'm surprised TEss didn't send a car for you..." then thinks a moment. "Though.. that may be my fault.. I think most of the cars are undergoing maintainence.. "
Joan As Ted spins around, Joan's eyes widen as she stumbles back in surprise. "A-!" One arm waves back, trying to regain her balance as she teeters back into place. "Ah yes. Joan Wright." She glances over to the vehicle he's referencing. "Oh she offered but she said you were already heading to the location and it seemed more efficient to grab the taxi."

She glances down to the helmets in hand and takes the larger one, offering it over to Ted. "I'd recommend wearing one of these as a precaution considering how long it has been since this building was in use. If you have one already fitted for yourself, I'd recommend you'd use that one instead. I don't know your size."
Ted Kord Looking down at the helmet she offers, he frowns.. then OHS and facepalms. "Right, right. Helmets. God, I'd lose my head if it wasn't screwed on.." he says. "I /do/ have a fitted one.. gimme a sec.."

He walks behind the pretty awesome car and just taps the trunk.. a display appears /on the surface/, and he sets his hand down on it. After a moment, presumably a palmprint scan, the trunk /unfolds/ and reaches into pull out a cerulean blue hardhat with the KORDlogo and a metallic briefcase (also blue).

Case in hand and helmet on, he motions to the building. "Shall we?" he asks, and walks along side her.

"Tess tells me you had some very great reviews. Usually I do this sort of thing myself since I am an engineer by trade.. But her and the rest of the staff are trying to break me of the habit of trying to do everything myself.."
Joan "You could say buildings are in my blood." Joan replies, holding on to the helmets, giving a slight smirk, tucking her short locks behind the ears before putting her own helmet on before reaching into her pocket. "Did you bring safety glasses too?" She asks, tugging out her own pair, slinging it open before sliding them onto her face.
Ted Kord Ted doesn't have locks. He has an unrily mop of brown hair that is sort of at odds with his business man chiq. Then again, so is the lack of a tie. He reaches into his jacket and pulls out a pair of 1980's style aviator sun glasses, though they have yellow-tinted lenses instead of darkened one. "Never leave home without them!" he says, and if one looks close they can see small words and screens reflected in them.

"I hope you don't mind it I'm recoding this.." he tells her as they enter the building and he leads her to the service elevator. "I try to keep things documented... The glasses make that easier.. and are rated a sbulletproof as well.
Joan "Ok good. So Shatterproof as well." Joan assesses, walking alongside Ted as she uses her free hand to fish out a pair of interlocked caribiners. Clipping one onto the inner strap of the spare helmet and clipping the other to a belt loop. Freeing up her hands to retrieve a small notepad and pen from another pocket. Man that's a lot of pockets in use. Looks like someone else is channeling their inner 90s.

"Recording is fine. Just, don't put my helmet hair online." That last part might have been a joke.

Maybe?
Ted Kord Ted grins a rather impish grin. "No promises..." he tells her as they take the elevator down to the lowest sublevel as the doors open it reveals that the lighting has gone out down here and the inventor sighs. "I wanted to check out the supporting struts.." he murmurs and takes a knee, flipping open the briefcase.

"SO you said you have buildings in the blood.. Family thing?" he asks as he pulls out four.. well.. they look like a cross small half domed insects robots. They are industrial yellow. (https://tinyurl.com/yygunzwo). They suddenly open their carapace and flitter up into the air on quickly flapping transluscent wings... and project beams of light, like mobile spot lights.
Joan "My mother is an architect. Moment I started showing interest in building things, both my parents went out of their way to encourage it." Joan replies, bending down slightly to undo the flap of another pocket to fish out her phone, with two harsh shakes, the camera light shines brightly as she starts to look around. "My father's a history professor, which... probably led to my appreciation for older structures and restoration."

She pauses as the flying bugs start getting to work. Two more shakes and the phone shuts off its own light. Eh, might as well save the battery for later and keep her hands free as well. "Well those are nice."

She continues walking around. "So, how long have you been an engineer?"
Ted Kord Ted closes the briefcase and stands, not bothering to pick it up since.. it unfolds legs as well.. like a flatter much larger version of the other drones.. "Designed them myself.. Initially for search and rescue but these are the construction inspection models." he tells her. "Radar. Sonr. Ladar. Passive X-Ray. Passive /T/-Ray.. the works..."

As the 'bugs' lead them into the depths of the building he smiles. "I got my degree when I was 15.. that was a year after my first degree for technical engioneering at MIT." he tells her. "My dad was a businessman but his brother was the engineer. I took after him more." he admits.
Joan "Hmm. My formal education was not on as advanced a rate as that. I stopped at the Masters degree level. Although, I did spend a lot of time at sites and building homes when I was legally old enough to take part."

Joan looks to the bugs curiously but glances around on her own as well, pausing as she looks to an electrical outlet and then glances arIound for the one nearest to it.

She glances along the ceiling of the basement. "Do they also have a constantly updated listing of regulations for new and renovated building structures based off of geographical location and building function category?" She asks.
Ted Kord Ted stops at one of the supports, kneeling bside it as two of the flying 'bugs' start to scan it slowly.. the technical specs highlighting on his glasses. "I was just /lucky/ to be that 'advanced'. I also had a lot of privailedge where many didn't. Doesn't make their accomplishments any less than mine. In fact it makes /their's/ better." he tells her, then looks over with a grin. "And unless you're gonna /teach/, a masters more than sufficient and something to be damned proud of. Besides, you probably have more hands on experience than any other dozen in your field."

At her question he stands up and nods. "And yes, they do. Well, the master unit does." he tells her, motioning to the briefcase-bot. "At some point I am going to bring in an entuire swarm and do the most comprehensive scan of the building that can be done. But it still needs that /human/ factor.. Thats where you and I and others come in." he says.. then ohs and pulls out a second pair of glasses. "Here.. so you can see the data."
Joan Joan looks to the offered glasses, blinking at them before she relents, taking the offered glasses and replacing hers with them. "Thank you."

She pauses, looking to the displays going through. "These might be better suited for the upper levels where there are questionable patches of floor to walk on."
Ted Kord Ted nods as he leads her aling to trhe next support.. and the next.. "They will be used for that as well.." he says. "THe plan is to see if this ol' girls bones are still good. Because thats the most important thing. I don't want to tear down a part fo the community. I'm trying to ADD to the community. Thats why I chose The Bronx and not downtown. I plan to hire, and train, locals to rebuild this building and then with their new skills, and tools provided by KORD, help them to revitalize the entire Bronx area. Thats why I chose this building. It's in one of the most distressed parts, racially and culturally diverse parts of area, as well as on the edge of Mutant Town.
Joan As Kord mentions not wanting to tear down the building, her expression brightens up. "I'm glad to hear that you prefer to keep as much of the building intact as possible." She admits, "There will likely be some stuff that will need to be replaced but I have a sizable contact list of local persons who can easily recreate what can't be tracked down."

She pauses, "How many other buildings are you considering?"
Ted Kord Ted Kord stops for a moment, thinking. "Well of course for now, the one. This is a pilot project. After that there are two others I am thinking of." he admits. "And while I am wiling to keep a lot of the structure, there will be a LOT of upgrading as well. This building is goingh to be one of the greenest footprints in the city, as well as providing jobs."
Joan Joan nods. "One at a time is good. It is hard to do a good job if you're stretched too thin." She pauses, glancing over to Ted, "Which, brings us back to why your staff wants you to use other people to perform these tasks in a way." As they venture towards the end of the floor, "Well, one floor down. Several more to go. But the foundation seems promising at least. But... definitely some changes to get it up to code by today's standards."
Ted Kord Ted Kord hehs and looks embarrased, rubbing the back of his head. "I'm told I have a complex.. where I need to take the problems of the world on my shoulders and try and solve them all at once.. and by myself. It's probably why the company took such a hit after I took over. ASO a few years ago I decided to.. try and heed other's advice. And ask for help. And I've learned since then that working as a team really does make things better."

He starts leading them bck towatrds the elevator. "I don't want it just up to code, Ms. Wright. I want it to SURPASS code. And, I want /your/ ideas on how I can do that with the tools available to me.. Which I will be honest about, are pretty darned sweet."
Joan Ted is rewarded with another nod as Joan listens to his description of what he wants to do with the building. "Mr. Kord. How do you eat an elephant?"
Ted Kord Ted Kord stops.. and looks at her with an eyebrow raised. "I should probably know this but.. How /do/ you eat an elephant?" he asks her slowly
Joan "One bite at a time." Joan answers. "Just as with a large project. You break it into smaller, more managable tasks. And right now we are just evaluating the canvas. You're already grabbing for the paint."
Ted Kord Ted Kord blinks.. then blushes and nods.. though he /is/ smiling. "You're right.. I am." he says as they step into the elevator.. the bugs flittering in behind them.

"And this is why I listen to those with more wisdom a I.. Thank you Ms. Wright. Shall we check out the mid level transitory struts?"
Joan "Yes." Joan agrees as the door starts to close, "Lets."

The doors pap shut.
