Koriand'r There was sunshine and joy to be had by all, at least, if one were to ask a certain orange-skinned superheroine.

Koriand'r herself, (more fondly known as Star by many of the Earthlings) her hair flickering behind herself with every step, was striding down the walk in this slightly rough part of town. Not that she seemed to mind. Catcalls and turned heads didn't go much further than the occasional rude comment (which she generally decided to ignore), seeing as she was obviously alien. And a great many people were nervous to do more than just bother such a person with words.

Not that Starfire would be bothered. She had free rent, and a place to stay at Titans tower. But she /had/ to explore this strange (to her) new world.

With a piece of pizza in one hand, (pepperoni and mustard), she was taking the occasional nibble from the end - but then she pauses. A particularly expansive wall had on it a graffiti mural, well-done, and taking on the appearance of images from the Stranger Things series - characters, images, scenes - all folding in and around themselves with an artistic flair. Caught by that image, Star lets her eyes flicker around it, still eating away.
Sebastian Greene     Five years ago the responses to her would most assuredly be more wild and filled with fear or surprise. But since so many thing have passed in that time, the city of New York has become more... at ease with the strange. Not entirely accepting, that is for certain, but easier. Yet it did help that for an alien, she was one of the more aesthetically pleasing amongst them, and does indeed at times draw the eye.
But there are moments at times in the world when all attention is robbed from those who perhaps deserve it the more. Moments when danger rears its ugly head and demands the eyes of all those who have a concern for their continued existence.
It begins with a crackle, the sound of displaced air rushing from one place to another and what looks like a mass of darkness thrown into place against something invisible in the air, a black spot of some sort in the sky, twenty feet off the street. People stop in mid-track, some people bring up their phones to begin recording.
Some people, seasoned New Yorkers, already take off running.
Their wisdom is verified when abruptly out of that darkness in the air hurtles two large armored beings, wisps of shadow whorling around both of them as they fall through the air, clearly trapped in a life or death struggle. They both crash to the ground, /smashing/ into the hood of an old cadillac that was parked illegally. To be fair.
Koriand'r Five years ago, Princess Koriand'r of Tamaran would not have been growing used to weird things and people jumping through portals and attacking her. So when that sound of displaced air and energy crackles strikes her senses, Starfire knew exactly what to do.

Finish eating her piece of pizza most quickly, or she would not be able to finish her food at all. Tamaraneans, as it was a little known fact, could fit quite a bit in their mouths, and Kori rolls up said pizza slice, and it vanishes within the space of a few moments. And Starfire was taking off, chewing as her green eyes focus in on the two dueling Titans. Some of the New Yorkers - the ones that didn't know any better yet - turn their cameras towards her, as Star lunges forward a moment, her eyes taking in the sight of the duel.

Things like this were always dicey.

Drawing in a deep breath, she shouts, "Please, stop your quarrel! You are in the city - please do not fight here or you may hurt innocents!" she says.
Sebastian Greene     Those two beings are armored so similarly. They are both large men, one slightly shorter than the other. The taller has heavier plate clinging to his shoulders, shins, hands, and chest with a large crested helm that hides his face save for glowing red eyes. While the smaller man, still what... six and a half feet tall at a glance... does not wear a helm, but has the same black armor.
"Yes, Ares. Why not surrender and let me kill you, think of the /innocents/." The larger armored figure says with an almost petulant tone as it brings back its immense two handed sword in a vicious swing seeking to decapitate his opponent.
But Ares, helmless though he brings his large shield up to /smash/ the sword strike away scowls and yells back, "I beg you, Phobos. This does not need to pass this way!" He steps in, the short stabbing sword in his right hand lashing out and striking against Phobos' armor, causing bright sparks to light and spatter across the ground.
Meanwhile people closer now have decided to turn and break into a run, even the ones normally recording.
Koriand'r
'Smaller' at six and a half feet.

These were proper Tamaranean sizes. Koriand'r flickers her gaze between the two men - letting her floating drift between herself and the civilians - Star sparing a moment's attention to shout over her shoulder, "Please, do not listen to your phones anymore - /please/ run!" she calls. It was then when she turns towards the two men proper.

She was getting a sense of who was good and who was bad here - but... just recently, naivete turned surface appearances on their head. Clenching her teeth, Kori lets her eyes flicker along the civilians there. "Go, go! Get out of the way, move!"

"I will punch you /both/ if you do not cease, and my punches have /fire/ to them!"
Ares     Taking her advice more and more, the crowd begins to break and run, rushing along the sidewalk to get away from the swirling melee between the two armored figures. Each time they come together in a clash there is a showering of sparks and roars of anger and exertion, tinged at times with Phobos' laughter.
For a moment they both step back, brandishing their weapons. Phobos' sword seems to gleam with a preternatural eeriness to it, while the sword and shield in Ares' hands seem to be old and decrepit... as if they had seen many many years of either too much use or none at all.
"You see, father. Wherever you go you spread your evil like a disease." Phobos steps back a few steps and extends one hand to the side, black fire flickering to life in his hand as he gestures with the tip of his sword. "You are disturbing the little flying girl. How cruel of you."
"You never could pay attention, child." Ares starts to step forward, crashing his sword against the front of his shield and giving a small nod as if ready to resume the battle.
But Phobos, has other plans. "Your choice is not without consequences, old man." And then he extends that hand out /straight/ towards Starfire, the black flames leap out, dancing from side to side as they flicker towards the woman...
Only for Ares to _leap_ as he can and extend his shield to take the brunt of the blast and keep it from hitting her.
Koriand'r Confusion reigned in Starfire's features.

Brow was furrowed though, as she tried to rack her mind for any little glimpse of information of what she had picked up in human behavior to try to identify what was going on here... and it was in the midst of that distraction that that black fire leaps towards her. Eyes widen in that moment...

And Ares leaps in the way of the attack.

She could be indecisive no longer. She was a Tamaranean warrior, and everything in her body was screaming Ares=good, and this Phobos was bad. Starfire grits her teeth. Leaping upwards a bit - to 'catch herself' in flight as she leaps from behind Ares' shield, she lifts a hand towards Phobos...

And with a 'SKREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!' of sound, a green bolt launches from her hand, looking almost like a beam with the speed it travels as it flies towards the armored form of Phobos. That poor Cadillac will not enjoy the blast, whether it is caught on Phobos or not.
Ares     There's a /KRA-BOOM!/ as her bolt collides with an invisible shield of some sort a bare inch from the flesh of the being known as Phobos, yet it causes him to stagger back a step, his sword coming up into line with the two of them as he snarls, "Wretched alien creature," The great helm on his head seems to grow and twist to her eyes, coming alive like some horrible creature from beyond that would torment even the bravest person's nightmares.
And those few people left there suddenly drop to their knees, screaming, crying out as they reach to their eyes to cover them, some of them clawing their cheeks in the utter terror that belongs to the God of Fear.
There's only a spare moment when Koriand'r will be able to meet John Aaron's gaze, their eyes holding for a single instant of time in this great universe. She may well see the gleam of rage, and anger there... but there is also something remorseful as he says. "Get them away! I will do what I can!"
And with no further word he breaks forward into a run, the great shield held before him.
Bolts of black flame lash the distance between them, shattering pieces of that shield and sending them whirling off into the sky and the ground. Yet it is not enough to stop the shoulder charge of the God of War and they both collide together again with an immense /CRASH!/ that suddenly falls silent as there's that rush of air and that darkness somehow floating above the ground...
It will only take a moment, two... and then that darkness will fade. Leaving her alone amongst the mayhem.
Koriand'r And Koriand'r of Tamaran was brave. But bravery was not the lack of fear, but feeling fear and rising above it.

And as that helm twists and malforms, one might see that fear flicker in the eyes of the alien woman. It looked, for a moment, like something that Should Not Be, but Was.

And who should stand in front of that way?

Star's forward motion falters - but she falls back to Earth again, stepping back - and away from the God of Fear and his battle - arms spread way as if to prevent the thing from growing nearer to the people. Even if she felt fear... she could find a place to put her own fear when she saw others afraid around her.

But she did not attack again. That moment where she meets John Aaron's eyes...

Kori nods her head once, solemnly to the man. She could carry two. Choosing the Earth teenager - or at least, what looked to her eyes as children - she throws two over her shoulder, shouting at the others. "Please leave! Go - now! It's..."

A thunderclash... and nothing - Starfire instinctively ducking. She glances back over her shoulder towards the place where they /were/. And the wailing and gnashing of teeth they leave behind. In the distance, sirens.

Starfire breathes out - a long sound.

"Please - let us all move away from here - and we will speak to the doctor when they arrive." People probably do not listen. The God of Fear had set so many into panic. But Kori could hold onto the two that she had, for the time being - and let the police know what had happened.
Koriand'r Starfire says, "Ginger! Please, accept this gift of one of the most glorious of things in this world - food."
Koriand'r Starfire says, "It is a treat that mimicks only the most amazing of Earth foods."
Koriand'r Starfire says, "Oh, Ginger - this is my favorite flavor as well!"
Koriand'r Starfire leans forward to Ginger, whispering. "I think he is speaking about me."
Koriand'r Starfire says, "But I think that last bean was my favorite, because it was a symbol of a new friendship."
