Samuel Guthrie Samuel Guthrie has been looking to talk to Jean today, and has stopped by her office a couple times, but seems this time he has gotten more lucky. He knocks lightly on the doorframe to her office. He will stick his head in and says "Miss Grey.. Err Jean." Yea old habbits die hard "Do you have a few minutes, Ah need to talk to you about Rosie, our new student, and her family."
Jean Grey The day keeps Jean busy. Meetings, phone calls, more meetings, maybe a quick run on lunch if she can spare it. At present, she's at her desk going through some emails when the eldest Guthrie comes through the door. At the formalities, she gives him a gently chiding look, but he corrects himself and she's grinning. "Hey Sam. Come on it, grab a seat. I'd seen her file comes through that she'd been enrolled, but no one seemed to know much about her. So I'm glad you stopped by. What's on your mind?"
Samuel Guthrie Samuel Guthrie will walk over to have a seat, and says "Well, Ah was the one who found her, so Ah probably know the most. " He hmms and says "Ok, where to start.... " He pauses thinking and says "Her home town is pretty anti mutant, got a church there, that is pretty close to the type of environment Rahne came from." He frowns a bit and says "When we brought her up her, we got her mother to sign the paper work to get her out of the small town, but Rosie did not want her mom to know she was a mutant so we left that out.
Jean Grey "Mm, sounds like a delightful town." Jean murmurs with all the enthusiasm of a half dead carp as she steeples her fingers in front of her. "That's rough, to spend critical years surrounded by hate, but it's nothing we're not used to. She's not the first nor the last. So we used the 'Form B' papers, got it. I'll make sure any communications hit the right routes. Given the big change in environment, how has she been doing here so far?"
Samuel Guthrie Samuel Guthrie makes a bit of a face "Not the best, she finds herself defending those back home. Has lashed out twice, once against Remy, and then against Jeremy and Shannon. Ah got there for the aftermath of Jeremy and Shannon. Jeremy was uninjured, Shannon got some minor cuts on her arm, and the wall outside the Rec room will need a new panel or two if the wood paneling. " He rubs the back of his neck. "When she tells someone about the locals, and they get upset, she gets upset, feels like they are attacking her home and family. Am still have to reinstil to her she aint evil. Last night Shannon and I talked her down from a panic attack after that incident.
Jean Grey "Abuse is... tough." Jean says quietly as she glances down at her desk. "Especially with a kid. That's their whole world and, good or bad, it's her family. It's all she knows, everyone that instinct and culture tells her is right. 'Listen to your parents, they know what's best'. It's probably the first real rule of life that we learn. Now we're telling her they're wrong. Us, a bunch of weird strangers that she was raised to believe were wrong, at a time where she's struggling to come to terms that she'd be considered wrong too. It's going to take her time. ...I wish Rahne was around, she'd be a lot of help here. If needed, I'll see about contacting her, but right now it's still so early. I don't want to overload her until she's had some time to realize we're not going to hurt her."
Samuel Guthrie Samuel Guthrie nods, and says "Thought so too. Well last night she told me about the first time, she went against her up bringing. There was another girl local, everyone thought was going to have a mutant baby, she did not tell me why they thought it, but she called Social Services to get the girl out of the community. She knows the church is bad. Rosie's mom's name is Sal, she is a single mother, living with her own mother. The Grandmother is a firm believer in the church's ways. Well Rosie told us, her mom is not on the church's good side having a kid out of wedlock. Rosie is worried about what might happen to her mom. Ah came up with a plan that might help take any heat off Sal, and her Mom for a bit.
Jean Grey "Hm. I see." Jean leans back in her chair, red brows knitting as the wheels start turning. ""Already a borderline pariah, and now she's let her daughter leave the fold. What happens if they learn the truth?" She proposes, though it sounds hypothetical. They know what'd happen. "Well, a fan of ours or no, we'd be remiss in not trying to help at least. Even if she doesn't want to accept it, all we can do is offer. If we can do it without breaking Rosie's wishes, all the better. So, what's your idea?"
Samuel Guthrie Samuel Guthrie nods, and says "Well, I figured out something was going on by the whole rumors of mutant or alien in the area, crushing cars at night in the junk yard. The quick easy was out I figured was get you or another telekinetic down there and continue crushing cars at night for a week or two. Make sure the mysterious happenings do not stop at the same time Rosie left the area. Maybe even have "someone" saw, either as alien or mutant, to get the heat off the family. Either way the alien or mutant will be scared away from the area at the end."
Jean Grey Jean mulls it over, and again for a few rounds more. Her nails tap gently against the desktop before she raises a finger while saying, "My concern here is that, with a town already full of anti-mutant sentiment, do we want to give them more ammunition? I'd rather them not suspect there's a mutant, though I'm sure we have several allies who'd be pretty offended if we pinned this on our off-world neighbors. Hm... what has the damage looked like? Are we talking someone riding around with a wrecking ball causing property damage, or driving over the town with a Sherman tank?"
Samuel Guthrie Samuel Guthrie looks to her, and says "Rosie practicing her powers on cars in the junk yard at night, maybe some floating wrecks, and cars that were not crushed the night before. Ah believe it was all limited in the junk yard. I was worried about as I said, if it all stops as Rosie left you know?"
Jean Grey "Oh no, I definitely see your point there." Jean insists as she drums her fingers on the desk again. Fidgeting while she things. "I just don't want to give them a reason to go on a witch hunt if they suspect there's still someone 'different' in town. It could put others in town in danger. It may be paranoid, but I'd even be worried irrational people would look towards a black sheep mother, already an outsider, who conveniently sent her daughter away at the risk of being in danger when they'd come for Sal."

"What I'm thinking, is that we make it look like some vandals. Dramatic ones, understandably, but something in the field of normal. I wonder if Dani would be able to help out here, make some local townsfolk discover someone experimenting with a wrecker or something of the sort, any kind of vehicle or machine capable of the damage and realistically being brought in and out. Obviously in the process of crushing cars, which I could help provide if needed. The wrecker would be illusional, of course - and that's where Dani comes in - but something they can pin on normal people that manage to get away. It's not a perfect idea, but "
Samuel Guthrie Samuel Guthrie nods a bit and says "Or maybe someone trying to hoax an alien things, where it is found out they were trying to hoax it to bring people to the area in some kind of money scheme. There were folks out there already who had come looking for the aliens, so someone finding out it is a hoax could work.
Jean Grey "That also works. Maybe they're swapping the cars left for matching ones, or close to it." Jean remarks with a nod. "Just to get a laugh. We'd honestly likely be fine letting it die. Even /if/ they would come to suspect Rosie, she's in the safest place she can be and they aren't going to spend what few resources they have hunting her. So long as her mother and grandmother - complicit as they are - would be spared for her sake, then we don't really have much concern in the grand scheme. Think, too, about what impact that will have on her if a mission there would go south. She'd know we went, and who'd be the monsters to her then if people she feels are her's got hurt? What then, if she'd run from us, tell them about what this school is? A hoax would be the safest play, but, have we calculated the odds of leaving it be?"
Samuel Guthrie Samuel Guthrie says, "Well I know she is worried about her mom, and I was thinking it would be the easiest way to take any possible pressure off her. We could maybe keep an eye on it, but if they do decide to move on Sal it could be sudden.""
Jean Grey "If you want to take one or two others to go monitor the situation, you can." Jean says to him while gesturing to the computer. "At least we can assure Rosie that we're making sure there's no backlash after her absent. Just be sure to run it by Scott once you have a full plan done up, especially if you need X-Men resources or personal, just so he can stamp it. He's a far better tactician than I am, so he may be able to get you more insight. If we can at all afford *not* to act and let the town settle, that's for the best."
Samuel Guthrie Samuel Guthrie nods, and says "Well, If Ah go back, Ah will need to use the image inductor again, Sal sorta made some passes at me, in my cover id when I was investigating the area. Is why I took Ororo, and an inducer when we got Rosie.
Jean Grey There's a very quiet and restrained chuckle from Jean, except in her eyes which are brilliant with laughter. "Hey, Ororo creating some freak downbursts over the junkyard may always be an option. Winds do strange things, but let's try and keep it more subtle and not have the news and a bunch of storm chasers showing up. I'm sure you'll work out a plan, you're no kid anymore even if I still have to remind myself of that some days."
Samuel Guthrie Samuel Guthrie chuckles a bit and says "Well, don't worry I am sure we will have another Guthrie kid here this fall, Melody is chomping at the bit to come up here, and ma is having to remind her not to fly over the mountain ridges.
Jean Grey "Ooof, that's right she is." Jean says with a wide smile and a slow shake of her head. "High time she came up, then, if only to give your mother some peace and quiet. I don't know how we'd handle this school without at least one Guthrie around. It'd just feel wrong. You know she'll be welcome up here at any time, even if she wants to move up over the summer and settle in ahead of time so she's not driving her teachers mad the first week."
Samuel Guthrie Samuel Guthrie nods and says "Ah think Ma wants to keep her at home as long as she can, and Melody, seem to be flight with an aura around her, but not protective like mine, dang girl flew head first into a tree, she she first triggered her powers, thinking she could blast like me. But Ma has a pretty good handle on dealing with flying kids now." He jokes a bit.
Jean Grey "Must be all that fresh country air, triggering a bunch of fliers in the family." Jean says. Or maybe just a bunch of kids who want to be as far away from the ground, and everything under it, as much as they can. "I'm surprised she hasn't got matching leashes for the lot of you. Well, give your mother my best. I'm sure she's going to have one ringer of a summer prepping another kid to head off to school... aaannd welcome a daughter-in-law! My congratulations to you are way overdue."
Samuel Guthrie Samuel Guthrie smiles and says "Thanks, we aint set a date yet, but ma, has already called asking about plans for that too." He grins sheepishly. "Alexis is great, and Ah am a very lucky guy on that front for sure."
Jean Grey "Scott and I haven't set one either, so don't feel bad." Jean admits with a puff of air and a rub of her palm across the back of her neck. "Though I'm pretty sure he'd be totally delighted if I just told him I booked a weekend somewhere remote next to a courthouse and then just threw a party with the gang when we got back. The more I stare at plans, the more that's becoming appealing."
Samuel Guthrie Samuel Guthrie chuckles a bit and says "We gotta give time, for her family to come from Italy and probably England as well, and Ma, and the youngins up from home. Then I also gotta make sure a few other folks are around. " He hmms and says "Oh Ah had not thought about that. Ah am going to have to decide between Berto and Josh for my best man." Yea at times he still reverts to Jay's normal name.
