Owner Pose
Sarah Connor These days Sarah was poking around the countryside, or more exactly, the city and its surrounding 'burbs. Today, she had spent day off checking out Central Harlem, ending up in Luke's Bar.

She ordered a half pitcher of some lager (which she promptly forgot), and a side order of wings.

Tonight 'Luke' had on the news.
Captain Boomerang The door swung open, and in stepped Owen Mercer. He wasn't dressed for heroic activity tonight, but the benefit of being a man with trick weaponry is that his every day clothes and his superhero clothes were almost identical. He had a few boomerangs on him, just concealed from view. Most people who had concealed weapons had guns or knives, but Owen, he had boomerangs. Moving to the bar, he rested his hands against it, and ordered a pint of Guinness in his Australian accent.
Sarah Connor It's going to be a while for Sarah's order. Thank gods for the beer. Despite forgetting the name of it, it wasn't too bad. (She didn't know because of being forgetful, no! She just didn't bother when the man took her order: One lager was the same as the next as far as she was concerned.)

The man had an accent. Australian. Not many of those around the parts. Then again, when Sarah wanted to use a different language it was very hard to notice that she wasn't a native speaker. She was that good.

"Kings are up by ten. If you care." The Kings were a local soccer club. Soccer seemed to fit most people's fandom out in the suburbs.
Captain Boomerang Owen grew up in Melbourne, Victoria, whereas Jesse Flores, Derek Reese's... it's complicated, was from Sydney, New South Wales, but had been based out of Perth, Western Australia. Thing is, even though there were regional dialects, which there were, in Australia, accents were more about what class you belonged to, with people having a broad accent like Steve Irwin, a general accent like Hugh Jackman, or a cultivated accent like Cate Blanchett. Owen's was of the general category. Hearing the reference to the local soccer club, Owen turned to see the screen and the woman. "Quite the blowout." Owen had heard of matches having that many goals, but had never actually seen one that wasn't youth level.
Sarah Connor Sarah was used to Derek. American as they came. Of course he's born in the future, so there is that.

"Yeah. I caught the last goal on tv. Apparently the crowds were going apeshit. Something about the semifinals?" That was almost her sum total of news on the soccer front. Which was considerably more than her news on football, hockey, and dare she mention it, rubgy.
Captain Boomerang Moving over, but standing with his beer, he looked at the screen, then to her, "so, you're a big football support - fan?" He corrected himself, as Americans don't really call people supporters. They're fans. He took another swig of his beer, "I'm Owen, by the way."
Sarah Connor "No, when I was south of the border, possibly. But they have you balls in a tight wad if you called them fans. Definitely supporters." Sarah lifted up her chin and pointed with it. "Come sit. I see you've got beer. I'm waiting on some wings. Sarah. I'm Sarah."
Captain Boomerang Taking a seat across from her, "nice to meet you Sarah." It seemed fairly empty. Either it was too early, or Luke's Bar had some other reason for not being too busy. "How was Mexico? I've never been." When she said south of the border, he assumed Mexico, since the United States only had two land borders, one with Canada in the north, and one with Mexico in the south, although many countries were 'south' of the United States.
Sarah Connor In truth she has been many places 'south' of the border. Mexico was just one of them.

She notices his looking around an otherwise empty place. "It's Wednesday? I don't know." She really did not have a reason. Back in Venezuela the bars would have opened early, and closed later for a 'football' match as big as this one. And they wouldn't have had a place to stand, let alone sit.

Nicaragua. Panama. Costa Rica. Mexico.

All those places, and more.

"What's your excuse?"
Captain Boomerang "Sometimes you just feel like a nice refreshing beer. It is summer in this hemisphere, which I still find so weird. I mean, later in the year, you're going to have people in Santa Claus outfits that aren't on surfboards. There's just something unnatural about that." Since Santa Clause outfits were very popular in Australia at the beach for Christmas.
Sarah Connor At that Sarah laughs a wee bit. "Santa Clause? Down South they did have Santa Clause - sorta of an ode to the north. But really they still considered it a religious holiday. They still have the lights, but there were mostly nativity scenes, and midnight masses - even the smallest town would have them. And the feasts, such feasts. One for every occasion during the holidays. Including the Epiphany."

If there were times she missed her days *that* would be one of the times she missed.
Captain Boomerang Owen wasn't especially religious, and Australia wasn't as influenced by religion as the United States was. Many of the early settlers were agnostic, atheist, or at least had less use, need, and interest in it. "Back home, it's more of a commercial thing, nice spirit, gift giving, and a laugh. But mostly commercial. Speaking of feasts, where are those chicken wings? They may have forgotten."
Sarah Connor "Hrm? Oh, my chicken wings." Sarah really couldn't care less - as long as they didn't charge her. "I mean, they *are* overwhelmed tonight." Her features were straight, except her eyes were crinkling at the corners.
Captain Boomerang He laughed at the overwhelmed remark, "could be that there was a change in the kitchen, the last person figured the next would make it, and the next figured it was already made by the last." He was about finished with his beer. "Yeah, I'm a bit peckish now. I think I'm going to head out." Since there were a few places he could get food around here at a quicker pace than they seemed to be going at.
Sarah Connor "Well, nice to meet you Owen. I got another one and a half pint of beer." Sarah was actually enjoying the odd bit of peace this night had. And then she would go home to the usual. You know, terminators.
