Owner Pose
Wendell Vaughn     It's New York City, the city that never sleeps. It's a Saturday evening, and Wendell finds himself without much of a social life. He's been off world for 4 long years, and the world seems to have moved on without him.

Friends moved on with their lives, and left him behind. It's actually a bit depressing when you think about it. I mean... the ultra-presumptuous title: Protector of the Universe doesn't really make up for that.

So today, Wendell has just purchased a couple hot dogs from a street vendor, and is sitting on a bench to eat his gourmet dinner and peoplewatch, his new hobby.
Jericho     The sun is just beginning to dip below the horizon, bathing the street in that soft golden glow. The air is crisp, but not too cold, a perfect fall evening to be enjoying a hot dog outdoors. Or to go shopping, or just be out and about in general.

So, there is certainly not a lack of material for Wendell to engage in his new hobby. A group of college-age friends pass by, laughing and chattering among themselves. A middle-aged looking couple out walking their cute little Yorkie. They turn toward one of the residential buildings that face the street--a brick three-story with a unit on each floor.

But as they head for the front door, an astute observer might notice something odd if they were either close enough or had some kind of enhanced senses. The man has pulled something out of his jacket and is holding it against the side opposite the woman, as if he's trying to hide it from her. Is that a handgun...?
Wendell Vaughn     The only real enhanced senses that Wendell has are his ability to pick up on any sort of energy signatures in the vicinity. And by vicinity, I mean like... orbit. The stronger the energy, the longer the range he can sense it from...

More to the point, the longer the range his Quantum Bands can sense it from. Either way, his eyes aren't augmented. But he -is- a trained SHIELD agent, and as such he is taught to notice little details such as body language.

It's not that he notices the gun, or the man. It's the woman's body language that he reads. She's tense.. scared. He sets down the second hot dog with his cheeks full of the first. So he activates the communication function of his bands via the neural link he has to them, and sends an anonymous transmission to 911 even as he begins walking towards the couple.

Okay, he's doing his best to just kinda walk casual, but he is laser focused.
Jericho     The dog seems to notice him first, turning around and barking excitedly. The couple reaches the front door to the complex as the dog starts up with its yapping, the man turning around to order the animal to be quiet but then seeing just who it was barking at. The first thing Wendell might notice as a trained agent is that the dog actually isn't just barking because it's excited about potentially meeting a new person, but in fact it seems tense--frightened, even. Something isn't right.

The handgun goes back into the jacket and he calmly approaches Wendell, leaving the woman by the door. "Is there something I can help you with, sir?" he asks. Indeed, there's something off about this guy. It's hard to place, but the look on his face doesn't quite seem natural.
Wendell Vaughn     "Actually, there is." offers Wendell with a smile. "You see, I used to live in this neighborhood a few years back. And I feel like everything changed in the last four years while I was out of town."

That said, he holds his hands out to his sides, showing that they are empty. Well, not holding a firearm. Holding a wallet. He lets the wallet fall open, showing his SHIELD badge. "But do you think that you might take your hands out of your pockets please?"
Jericho     When Wendell shows his badge, the woman at the door seems to become even more nervous. She starts to approach. "Brian--"

That's when man does take his hands out of his pockets, and when he does the gun is in his right hand. But instead of pointing it at Wendell, he turns to the side slightly, the barrel going in the woman's direction...
Wendell Vaughn     "Now that won't do." offers Wendell as the hand begins moving towards the woman. "You don't want to do that." he states as his empty hand goes down. His badge is still up in the air in his right hand.

But the left hand, down by his waist... flares just a tiny bit. As it does so, a golden tendril zips between the man's legs and lashes upwards to form a golden hand that has its index finger plugging the barrel of the gun.
Jericho     As the tendril goes out, so does the bullet, but Wendell manages to stop the cartridge from exiting the barrel just in time. Frustrated, the man drops the gun to the ground and charges at the woman, this time with a knife in hand. She screams and runs for the door of the house, but she'll never get it open in time!
Wendell Vaughn     And that is when Wendell moves on his own. "Do you seriously think -this- is okay?" he asks as he lashes out with a foot, striking for the man's ankle do try to perform the human analogue equivalent to the driving Pitt maneuver. The goal is to twist the man's forward progress to one side, and to trip him up long enough for Wendell to reach out and grab the back of the man's collar. "You really don't want to harm the lady, do you?" he asks.
Jericho     The man is sent sprawling sideways as Wendell trips him up. Then he gets grabbed by the collar, preventing him from reaching his target. The woman gets the door open finally, and, grabbing the dog, she rushes inside and shuts the door, locking it tight.

The man, supposedly named Brian, struggles against Wendell's grip and tries to swing at him with the knife--but his movements are...oddly sluggish. As if he's fighting something else other than Wendell at the same time.
