Sarah Connor What should have done it was the Chinese food. Two bags of it. Delivered to the door even!

Sarah paid the girl, and delivered the food to the living room, passing out the different dishes to the living room table. "Bring two plates. If Cameron comes later, she can get her own plate." Which was normal for Sarah. She trusted Cameron about as far as she could throw has, which isn't to say, very much. She was polite to her, but not chummy. "And get two pops from the fridge."

She waited then.
John Connor Chinese food often meant really good news, or really bad news, when John wasn't the one to suggest it. It was his favorite. John brought two plates as instructed. Cameron could eat, but didn't require it, or not in large quantities. He wasn't a hundred percent certain when it came to the flesh on a Terminator. Some proteins, minerals, and liquids were needed, but it was easier to maintain than a human of the same size, since it was literally skin deep.

The thought had him pause for a moment, as he considered. Uncle Bob bled. Cameron has bled. Other Terminators have bleed. If there was something pumping blood, there had to be a heart somewhere, probably about the size ofa chicken's or so. Maybe it was a mechanical one. The request for the pops got him out of it. "Oh, yeah, sure," and he got two Coca-Cola's for them, joining his mother at the table.
Sarah Connor Sarah took the carton of chicken balls, and put it in front of John. "I bought two of them. Help yourself." She, herself, started on the vegetables with almonds, and two spring rolls.

"I've been meaning to inform you of a problem." She doesn't say it wasn't urgent, or it wasn't anything to worry himself about.. Mind you, she probably wouldn't have said those things even if they were true.

Unfortunately, they weren't true.
John Connor He was a pretty good judge of character, and he knew his mother well. He was about to ask her to stop, and spill whatever it was, when she started talking about buying a double order, except she mentioned a problem. He instinctively glanced at the points of entry and exit. It was habit. "What kind of problem?" He kept it simple.
Sarah Connor "I fucked up."

Sarah didn't fuck up very often. Her life, and John's depended on her being on the ball, 24/7. To hear her say that she'd made an error was not like her one little bit.

"I've misplaced 2 terminator bodies."

That? That was bad. Really bad.
John Connor She did not fuck up. So to hear her say it was alien to him. And misplacing two terminator bodies. That was bad, but not nearly as bad as some might make it out to be. "Where did you last see them? What state were they in? What did they know?" He was just like her, to the point, in the big issues.
Sarah Connor Sarah continued to fill her plate with Chinese food as though it wasn't a problem.

"Both of them were dead. I've got the CPU units. But someone must have been nosy to dig them out of the dumspters they were in."

Dumpters. As in two.Two separate incidents. When she had said 'I fucked up' she wasn't kidding. Nobody reported them to the police. They had retrieved them, either two persons, or worse, one persons.

Two wasn't good. But it was infinitely more preferable than one person following her.
John Connor "At least you got the CPU's." He was relieved. Terminators were very advanced, but at the end of the day, they were just bodies. It was hard to make a body, but it was even harder to program one. He knew enough that she'd dump one somewhere that wasn't under surveillance, as she didn't want to be on camera. "How far were the nearest cameras? We could try, see what we can fin?"
Sarah Connor "Nearest camera?" The one was immediately near her work (which was a bad thing in and of itself), but in the alleyway? Both times she had been careful to avoid anything remotely camera-ish. "There might be by the lights?"

But then again, the building across the road was a werewolf den (Faith had told her that).. so maybe not? The other one she figured they would have some good luck.
John Connor He frowned, not having touched much of his food, as he was concerned about these missing terminator bodies. But mostly, he was frowning at his mother's unfamiliarity with cameras. "We'll need to investigate. Best to send Cameron for the reconnaissance." Since Cameron would look like a normal teenage girl, but pick up the cameras, be they close, or far away. She could detect them with her sensors. "I don't want to be on one of those cameras before I might have to hack into them." Then he began to eat, loading up his plate, until he asked, "where is she?"
Sarah Connor Sarah doesn't point out that she's there, at this diner, for months. She is fairly certain the only cameras that could be there were the ones that took pictures of red light runners. Not that she was worried about that.

"Faith has told me the big building on the opposite side of the road is a werewolf pack. They wouldn't like it either if they were photographed." Still, she would rather check it out and be certain, than chance it,

"The other one, I am not so certain." She named the spot around a church. That one? Was more up in the air. Though, with that one at was likely not in the alleyway, and only in the church parking lot. Which means, it was probably a day or two before the pictures were recycled with new ones. Maybe.
John Connor There wasn't a lot that they could about it right now. Besides, they had dinner on the table, but John took the information in, his mind calculating as ever. His life had always been unusual, but dealing with mutants and werewolves were new issues. "At least they weren't vampires," he cracked a light joke, assuming, but not actually certain, that vampires lacked a reflection. That's what they said in the movies.

Taking into account that the second one might not be recycled too often, he added, "how many hours on each?" Wondering, how many hours had passed since she left each body. How long did they have to gather information.
Sarah Connor Sarah munched on a spring roll as she thought about it.

"At best for us, depending on how you take it.. seven days. At worst, say.. 3 days." No matter how you took it, they *probably* had no pictures of Sarah. But then again, they probably had no pictures of anyone else.
John Connor It was always worth checking, providing they did it right. Some systems did record for longer, but they were few and far between, especially out in the open like that. High end private ones within a company's walls, sure. But stuff that was on the exterior of buildings, not so much. He reached for a deep fried wonton, munching on it, "chances are, they're gone. At least you got the chips." That was the most important part. He leaned back in his seat, finally relaxing, and ran a hand through his hair, which was greasier than his mother probably liked. Then he smiled softly, maybe forced, maybe real, but he was trying, "what does your fortune cookie say?"
Sarah Connor A cookie was picked and broken.

"The fortune says: You will be very lucky in the future. Look to a brown haired man for guidance." Sarah laughed very lightly. "See? Even the fortune cookies are on our side."

That's not what she actually read.

'There will be sorrow in your life.'

That's what she really read. Who gets a fortune like that?! Sorrow in your life?! As if there wasn't enough sorrow in it already!
John Connor John looked sceptically at his mother, convinced that she was making that one up, but he didn't press the issue. He reached for a cookie of his own, never having developed a taste for the cookie portion, but he did enjoy reading the fortunes. He cast a curious glance at his. One eyebrow rose, then lowered. Finally, he shrugged and read out, "it's amazing how much good you can do if you don't care who gets the credit." He really didn't care who got the credit for anything, but he had been raised since birth to believe that he would be the one getting all the credit. It was kind of profound, in a very roundabout fashion.
Sarah Connor Ah yes. The conundrum. To break the bonds of Skynet John will, of necessity, lead. But if they did it the way they were trying to, to break Skynet's hold before they even got one? John will always be just a man, not the saviour of the world.

Sarah held out hers so that he could read it .

"Mine was better."
John Connor John didn't take it, but he could read it from where she held it. Nothing was said of how she had changed hers. He then looked to the empty chairs, of Cameron and Derek. Reaching for the fortune cookies, he set one aside for Cameron, and one for Derek, "since they aren't here, I don't think they'd mind if we opened theirs for them." Unbeknownst to them, the one he had set aside for Cameron would read 'A dream you have will come true', and the one for Derek would read 'Now is the time to try something new'.
Sarah Connor Standing up, Sarah started to pick up the extras for later. And places a kiss upon John's forehead. "We're going to get through this, just you wait and see."

Her whole life depended on getting through this.
