Owner Pose
Sarah Connor As far as Sarah finds, the quiet times are usually outweighed by the rest of them. So when she has an afternoon off, and no new news to check up on, she occasionally finds a park and people watches.

Okay, it's still checking the area and the people. Just it seems like a holiday, as opposed to the regular checking it out. Besides, it really /was/ a holiday! And John had gone with Cameron, leaving her with a hole for the weekend.

With John fast approaching adulthood, soon he wasn't going to need her (as much?), and that meant.. what? For her.

Today she had a hotdog and a drink, and was off to the side watching everyone.
Lucas Farmer It's early in the afternoon, and the park is still relatively quiet while people are still busy with lunch. Not to mention that holidays see fewer people in the park. Lucas could have stayed at Xavier's School, where holidays are usually filled with all sorts of activities or downtime for those wanting to relax. The young man is used to the school by now, and to most of its students and staff. It doesn't mean that he likes it, for sometimes he feels like being in a golden cage.

Instead, Lucas Farmer decided to leave the school and go for a walk with his best friend. Wearing a green t-shirt, jeans and running shoes, the tall young man has just passed the entrance gates to the park, carrying a backpack on which the cover has been replaced with a piece of mesh.

As he approaches the section where is Sarah, the young man carefully places the backpack on the grass, away from the path, and slowly opens it.

"Now, wait," Lucas can be heard ordering.
Sarah Connor Sarah catches sight of the boy and frowns. It's a habit. Unless she was putting on a show. You know, the blonde bimbo; the secretary; the jogger. Anyone but Sarah. Plain old Sarah.

Strange. Cameron was probably the youngest terminator she's seen. If she were to take out whole bunches of people she'd contemplate very highly the 'child soldiers'. After all, they weren't child soldiers really - they were merely machines that were more dangerous than the average real life soldier.

And then some.

She was intrigued. What was he talking to? Who was he talking to? Could he be another terminator like Cameron?
Lucas Farmer At first, two pointy furry ears can be seen emerging from the backpack, followed by blue/grey eyes. A four-month old baby isn't quite difficult to manage, but a four-month old puppy, especially a husky, is a handfull.

So much that before Lucas had a chance to tie the leash to the puppy's collar, the pup jumped out of the backpack and started running around, yapping its happiness to be freed from the restraints of the backpack. Running circles around Lucas for a time, the pup get tired of this and soon spots another human.

And there the puppy is running directly towards Sarah, yapping all the way, although not agressively.

"Puppy! No! Here!" Grabbing his backpack, Lucas starts after his little dog.
Sarah Connor A puppy!

It all fit. And the odds of him being a terminator were significantly lowered. But first she had to either avoid the puppy, and catch him and give him (her?) back to his owner. She opted for catch him.

"Hey puppy! Come here." Sarah didn't get up and chase him. Rather she held out a piece of hotdog. "It's only got mustard. See?" She took a tiny piece to show him, still hoping to catch him before he ran away for good.
Lucas Farmer Oh, will it work? Still running towards the seated woman, the puppy stops in its tracks. And sliiiiiiiides on his butts, coordination still needs more practice. After rolling on its side, the furry ball of energy on four legs is back running, stopping just in front of Sarah. No, in front of something that smells damn good.

"No, Puppy! No!" Lucas orders as he almost reached the pup.

Amazingly, the pup seemed to recognize this commend and obey the young man's order and, despite it being a very good smelling offer, the small dog doesn't try to take the offered piece of hotdog. Instead, he turns around and runs to his master. Taken by surprise, Lucas tries to catch the puppy as he runs by him. Running, bending and trying to catch a dog isn't something practiced at school and you'd have to be quite gifted to do that. And indeed, Lucas fails, and finds himself tripping and sprawled on the grassy ground just in front of Sarah.
Sarah Connor Sarah finds herself caught between laughter and annoyance. So much for the hotdog!

With that, the hotdog was put down, and the boy was handed a leg up. "It would be easier if the dog had a name, and a leash. By the looks of it, he's going to outgrow the backpack in about a week. And if you don't get a handle on him, you'll be sorry."

"Now, let's get him before he runs out of the park."
Lucas Farmer Yes, the puppy is getting too large for the backpack. Accepting the help, Lucas gets on his knees. Instead of standing up, he reaches for his backpack and retrieves a leash.

"I have one," Lucas says in a calm voice, "He was faster than me, is all." He pauses, adding, "Puppy. His name is Puppy." How original.

And said Puppy wasn't far, never losing sight of his master. Seeing Sarah's gesture toward his master, one used to dogs would realize how the yapping changed from happy-yapping to angry-yapping. Someone is attacking his master! Forget being four-months old, it's husky blood running in his veins. And yes, it runs, as fast as he is toward his master, instinct dictating that he protects Lucas.

And as soon as he is close enough, Lucas finally catches Puppy, and succeeds in attaching the leash to his collar.

"Stop, Puppy," the young man orders as the puppy seems to want to eat Sarah alive. "Friend. Puppy, friend!" The yapping stops, but Sarah would notice the two small blue-grey eyes riveted on her.
Sarah Connor In her brain, Sarah did a complete facepalm. Puppy. The dog's name was Puppy.

sigh.

Still she helped him up. And saw he did have a leash. She was just about to say "How should we.." When the puppy, Puppy, decided to growl at her. Putting up her hands and backing a few short steps, Sarah then held her ground.

After all, she didn't want to attack the dog! Not that she couldn't have!

"I'm a good lady. See, my hands are up."
Lucas Farmer Sarah wouldn't know it, but Lucas' smile is a rare occurrence. It's a good little dog and the young man is obviously proud of him. With Puppy secured under his arm, the young man stands, and faces Sarah, keeping at about three feet from her.

"Look, Puppy. Friend," he says, scratching the little furball behind the ears. After a moment, the pup realizes thay his master isn't in danger, and out the little tongue igoes, ready to lick anything around.

"He's young," Lucas explains, as if to apologize, "He won't attack you. I'm sorry if he scared you, ma'am."
Sarah Connor "Me?" Sarah can relax now. "No. I wasn't." And she wasn't. At everytime she had perfect control over her body. She knew where her gun and knife were at all times. Plus a few moves that could have been useful. "Never show you're afraid of the dog. It makes them nervous. He would be more prone to attacking then if I kept my distance and talked quietly."

With some exceptions. But the boy didn't need to know that.

"You're okay, though?"
Lucas Farmer The young man seems to ponder Sarah's words. Yes, she's right. Lucas has seen dangerous dogs before, and knows to not try to run from them - if possible.

"I'm fine, Lucas replies, stepping back now that Puppy is calmer. Grabbing his backpack, the young man sits on the bench, letting Puppy on his feet, kept in leash. The young dog seems exhausted and lies down.

"You are right, ma'am," Lucas says, "Where I am from, they had these bad guard dogs. German sheppards they called them. If we stepped too close to the fence, they would attack us. So we'd be standing still and in most cases, they didn't hurt us," he recalls. The dog at the Farm were trained to control the kids, not to kill them. That Lucas might not know for sure. "My dog won't be that mean. He'll be protective, but I don't want him to attack good people."
Sarah Connor As Sarah listens to him, a small smile cracks the corners of her lips. And then as he explains, the smile is wiped clean.

"You were kept captive?" The gun runners had a compound with dogs, and that didn't sound the same as what he was saying.
Lucas Farmer Yhe young man nods his head. Over the months he had been at Xavier's School, he came to understand that /he/ did nothing wrong to be treated the way he had been at the Farm. This sort of certitude often gives victims the courage to talk about their experience. Lucas is not different.

"Yeah," the young man finally says, "Bad men stole mutant kids from their families, and raised them on the Farm. It looked like a summer camp with guards and electric fences, with no kid being volunteer to be there. That's why they call me Farmer. Lucas Farmer." He pauses, not showing much emotion as he explains, "I was real lucky not to be sold." There is no mention, though, on how the X-Men came to save most kids and destroy the Farm.
Sarah Connor Sarah took a moment to think about what the boy, Lucas, was telling her. Sure she really had no reason to care about the story. After all she had enough to keep her busy on her own. But something about the boy, his similarity in age, made her mom sense be on hyperactive.

"And you've got a home now?" Of course he does! He even had a dog. A puppy in fact.
Lucas Farmer Lucas extends his legs, locked at the ankles, which is providing a way for Puppy to jump and come rest on his lap.

"Yes, ma'am," the young man replies, always with the same calm voice. "I live in a school," he says, wary to mention the name of the school, "They are nice to me, I learn a lot of things there." Which includes developping his mutant abilities and learning to live with other people, freely. "And I can go out whenever I want too," he finally adds, as if this fact was the most important aspect of living at Xavier's. "But I won't live there forever. When Puppy is grown up, I'll find a job and we'll live together."

Simple dreams of a simple young man only wanting to live in peace, like most people.
Sarah Connor She nods, and smiles. "Good."

Sarah grins, to show she is joking.. is she?? "Or else I'd have to hunt them down and do some damage." She doesn't say what damage. "I'm going to leave now. Nice to meet you, and Puppy. Get some good books on training."

And she was off.
