Thomas Raith The first thing Thomas had done after leaving Harry and Zatanna the night before was check the VIP list. Most members of the Avengers and the Justice League were on it automatically, just as a curtasy provided their identies were public knowledge, and yep There was Zatara, Zatanna at the very bottom of the list, right below Wayne, Bruce... not that the billionaire playboy had ever been there before either. Still he made a note to have his assistant manager send out a new Black Card to Zatanna after finding out she was seeing Harry, along with the note "From the brother you could have had if you hadn't settled."
Zatanna Zatara While Zatanna is aware of the nightlife scene in Bludhaven, she's not really a part of it so much as *featured* in it. If she's not performing, she's unlikely to be out in it as a patron. Particularly these days, with helping out the Batfam in patroling Gotham, Bludhaven, and surrounding areas.

But tonight is a night off. A night to do things for Zee's sake.

And whether it's Thomas having mentioned it the other night, the card sent her way, or something else altogether: Zee has found herself at the Blue Lady. She's dressed well in a little black dress that covers one shoulder and arm -- leaving the other and some cleavage free -- along with a pair of black heeled ankle boots. Her hair has been left free; tumbling around her shoulders.

With a gold (matching the necklace she wears) clutch in hand, she makes her way into the club and initially to the bar. It's only once she has a drink (a mojito by the looks of things) in hand that she allows herself to be directed to the VIP area.
Thomas Raith Well from the moment she showed her card to the door man, a hispanic man in his 20's with a pair of moderen tomahawks at his belt, it's pretty clear she's getting the full treatment. She is naturally allowed to skip the block long line and go right in. It also means that her drink at the bar is waved as well, and the one-eyed bartender gestures to the Bouncer he nods and lowers the velvet rope seperating the Club from the VIP lounge. And of course Thomas Raith is there, a smile on his face and a bottle of champagne.
Zatanna Zatara As she steps through and sees Thomas, Zatanna reaches into her clutch and pulls out the note. "Settled, huh? Who says I've settled for anyone?" She tuts, but tucks away the card with a bit of a smirk.

Approaching the seating area, she claims one without much of a second thought. "I think you approach things in a much too binary way, Thomas. For all you know, I'm gay. Maybe your handshake didn't do it for me because you're lacking the right parts."

She's not, but she also likes pressing people to look at things differently. "So this is your club. I don't see any reason why magic would be so bad. I don't feel any leylines or other concerning pockets of power around."
Thomas Raith Thomas Raith chuckles a bit, "Your not gay... willing to bet you've kissed a girl or two, but not gay." He says casually as he takes a seat with her and opens the champagne, pouring a flute for both of them and shaking his head. "No, I have a magical suppression system installed... If you use magic in here? It sets off the sprinklers. Which shuts down allot of magic, and takes the fight out of most people." He says with amusement.
Zatanna Zatara Her mojito is set aside and the champagne flute accepted in turn. One can never turn down good bubbly and she suspects this is the Good Stuff(TM).

"A magical suppression sys- what do you have in there?" Zee looks both baffled and intrigued all in one; faced with something she's never heard of that could shut down her magic, she seems almost scientifically interested in understanding it. "Is that why the invite? To put me in a place where I can't use my magic?"
Thomas Raith Thomas Raith laughs slightly, "It's actually a fairly simple little tool. It's a circut that is extremely sensitive to magic fields. All Magic disrupts tech to some degree, even the kids that aren't super detrimental to it. If the sensor pops it sets off the sprinklers.." He shrugs a bit. the Champagne is /definately/ the Good Stuff, and he smiles sipping it. "So i have to ask, just what /are/ your intentions on my little brother... Because my Big sister may have already called dibs."
Zatanna Zatara "Sure, sure, Luthor has had variations of that kind of thing before. But what's *in* the sprinklers?" Zatanna, clearly, assumes it's some special substance. 'Just water' doesn't even cross her mind. Why would it? She's not impacted by it.

Magic and the supernatural: as wide and varied as the gods, or metahumans, or... well, just about anything really.

Zee takes a sip of the champagne, but nearly snorts it due to laughing. "Intentions? He was hired to find me. He did. We found out we have a lot in common. Can't say I have any *intentions*."
Thomas Raith Thomas Raith shrugs, "Running water grounds out most forms of magic that I have encountered, and cold water raining down on you takes the desire to fight out of most people, even spell slingers." He shrugs slightly and tilts his head. "And that's all, Because as a sort of incubus, I could pretty much taste the vibes in the air..." He says amused.
Zatanna Zatara "So, wait... magic users, in your experience, can't cast spells in the rain?" Zatanna shakes her head, blinking a few times in disbelief. "How inconvenient. I may not *like* being out in the rain, but it certainly doesn't stop me."

There is a temptation to test his 'supression' system, but there's just so many people enjoying themselves. No need to give them all a cold shower.

"The vibes?" Zatanna looks back to Thomas, refocusing on the conversation. "I- uh, hmm. Look I haven't dated in some time. I tend to have... not the best luck when it comes to romantic partners. I wasn't even thinking of anything like that."
Thomas Raith Thomas Raith shrugs. "It's hard to describe exactlly, but yeah I can sort of...taste attraction. It's far from fool proof but," he shrugs and sips his drink again. "Harry's a good guy, he has the worst luck with women... and coming from me, that is saying something. Just asking you to keep it in mind, hmm?" he asks with a smile, holding out the bottle to ask if she'd like a refill.
Zatanna Zatara Another sip drains the rest of her glass and Zatanna holds it out for a refill. "Attraction doesn't mean anything. I can look at just about anyone and find *something* attractive about them. The bouncer coming in here, for example: his suit is perfectly tailored. He wears it attractively."

"If this is some sort of 'if you hurt my brother' talk, don't worry. I actively do my best to *not* hurt people."
Thomas Raith Thomas Raith snorts. "Oh no, nothing like that. I certainly don't need to threaten anyone for Harry's sake. Harry is Gandalf on crack and an IV of Red Bull, with a big leather coat and a .44 revolver in his pocket. He'll spit in the eye of gods and demons alike if he thinks it needs to be done, and to hell with the consequences -- and yet somehow my little brother manages to remain a decent human being. I'll be damned if I know how. But then, I'll be damned regardless." He shrugs and sets the bottle back in the ice after refilling her glass. "But I am going to ask you... Try not to hurt him. He deserves some happiness. And he likes you. So does the little perv in the basement it seems."
Zatanna Zatara "What does that make me, then?" There's a hint of a smirk, but Zatanna doesn't press further. She doesn't need compliments. She knows how powerful she is. Not many treaty with the Spectre and walk away unscathed.

"I have no plans to hurt your brother. That's not like me. As for Bob, well-" Zee shrugs lightly. "He's simple. Simple things are easily swayed. And I figured a happy Bob might make Harry's life easier. See? No plans to harm."
Thomas Raith Thomas Raith nods and smirks, "The second sexiest creature in the club tonight?" He asks with a wicked smirk, making it clear who he believes to be #1, though he does add, "Be careful around Bob, yes he seems simple, but he has allot of knowledge, and knowledge is power." He shrugs, "Speaking of however, he recommended I bring something up with you. Honestly don't think it'll help, but I'm willing to ask at any rate."
Zatanna Zatara "Knowledge I have in spades. Maybe not on tap-" Zatanna taps her temple before taking another sip of champagne. "But I have a very extensive library. Knowledge is, yes, power. But it's power free to anyone willing to look for it. Handy, that. Even a mere mortal can undo devious plots with some well-placed knowledge. Batman is a pro at it."

Another sip, but she arches a brow as she swallows. "Oh? And what did our skull friend want you to ask me?"
Thomas Raith Thomas Raith leans back and looks at her, "So I am asking that you not nessicarily discuss this with Harry, if you can avoid it. I'd rather not get him involved." He says calmly but shrugs and adds, "I'm trying to find a way for two non-wizards to engage in something the equivilant of a soul gaze."
Zatanna Zatara "Warning me not to hurt him, but you're keeping secrets. Tsk, tsk." Zatanna doesn't seem too bothered. Instead she just sips at the champagne more.

"A soul gaze?" A beat, eyes unfocusing. "Oh, yes. Your brother told me about that. Seems to be one of his abilities." Zee gives a small shrug. "I figured it to be some kind of mind magic. Playing off of the concept of eyes being the window to the soul. Now if I did it, I'd make it a one-way spell versus this two-way street his seems to be."
Thomas Raith Thomas Raith nods, "What I am looking for /is/ the two-way version, but like I said with no actual Wizard involved. I know if I practiced magic, it'd likely happen...and I can do a few basic spells, a tracker, a low light spell... But Harry's the wizard, and I'm not." He shrugs and adds, "And i much prefer instant gratification."
Zatanna Zatara "I think it's a facet of the *kind* of Wizard Harry is, Thomas." Zatanna shifts slightly, lowering the champagne flute to rest in her lap. "There are some like me where- I *am* magic. I'm not a human who does magic, I literally come from a magic people. There are those like Constantine, who knows spells and how they work, but... he's very much human. I think Harry is perhaps closer to what I am, but not the same. I think some of his magic may be innate, like this soul gaze thing."

"As for instant gratification..." Zee takes a deep breath. "From how he described this soul gaze, it seems to be learning all there is to know about someone, to the deepest levels... while they learn the same about you. If you're trying to skip those steps -- getting to know someone -- I think... well look much as I love magic, the real thing. The real moments, relationships, whatever- they all come with time and a lot of work."
Thomas Raith Thomas Raith head shakes, "No, not looking to skip /those/ steps... But we have reached... shall we say a wall, and it just might take something the equivilant of a battering ram to get through it." He says calmly and shrugs...
