Jason Todd It isn't that often that Jason speaks up enough to ask any of the others for help. Sure, they're supposed to be a family. Mostly they are but every family has to have a black sheep and of them all, Jason was the one with the blackest of records. One result of his tumultuous rebirth has been that he keeps more to himself. Everyone knows where to find him if needed but when someone is difficult, it's just easier to let them be. Only Jason finally admitted he could use some help. What's more, he actually asked for that help from the one Bat member that was truly suited for the task at hand - checking over the network and systems that Jason has cobbled together in his "Cave" and providing advice on how things could be improved. At least that was as far as Jason expected it to go.

That conversation had been a few weeks in the past when he finally made himself reach out to Barbara rather than pretend none of it had ever happened. A time was agreed on - by texts of course because who calls anyone?

When the afternoon chosen rolls around, Jason is trying not to pace and act impatient for company so he keeps busy by working on the modifications to his Red Mobile. That is totally not the name but what better way to define its role? The dark red '67 GTO's hood is up and he is leaning over the fender, wrenching on the motor.
Barbara Gordon At the appointed time, there was the arrival of a specific librarian with some talents for computers arriving to the hidden location that Jason called home. Though it wasn't a place she might've chosen, he had managed to set it up nicely. Kind of homey really. The influence of their mentor was apparent though in the choice.

Course, she lived in a Clocktower. They really were all a bit different.

When she entered, she came through a doorway backwards. Because her hands were filled with a largish box. "Hope I'm not late!" she called out as she slipped through, glancing around to see if he was within line-of-sight.

Barbara was dressed casually. A pair of jeans, trainers on her feet. A black baggy t-shirt which said Property of the Gotham City Library on it. Over that was a gray hoodie, partially zipped up to keep it secure and not interfering with what she was doing.

"Reporting for duty," she said in a cheerful tone as she glanced around. Then the smile was more friendly as she added. "How're you, Jason?"
Jason Todd Jason Todd has the pedigree to draw on for being paranoid, though they all probably call it being extra cautious. It just means he knew he had a visitor when Barbara approached one of the entrances into the forgotten station.

Even though he knew she was coming, he continued to lean over the fender of the car. When she made it into his actual living space and operations area, he pulls on the wrench in his hands once more then looks up with a quiet laugh. "Duty? I'm just hoping for a favor." He looks back and cranks on the wrench one last time before easing out from under the hood. Wiping off his hands he looks to the redhead.

"Thanks for coming Barbara." Tossing the rag once a work cart beside him he offers, "Something to drink? I've got plenty of energy drinks. I won't pretend that this is probably going to be easy. Or maybe it is and you'll tell me to just toss a thermite grenade at it all and start over."

He offers an uncertain smile. Not used to being one on one with most of the Family these days. Least of all the smartest of them.
Barbara Gordon "If you have a Monster, that'd be great," Barbara said as she moved to set the box down near his computer setup. But she didn't start on it immediately. Instead, she opted to walk over and look at that car. Because come on, that thing was a beauty!

"Just kidding about the duty thing, of course. I'm always glad to help out," she said in all honesty as she looked over the engine. She did know the basics though on engines. She took care of her own bike after all. "Just a tune up or something going on with her?" Not that she could /see/ anything going on specifically but he did have the hood up and wrench in hand. Hopefully it was just that tuning up, keeping it in working order for those nights he might take it out on the streets.

"I brought some cables and such if we need to replace them," she added, focusing on the reason she was actually here though not in a rush to go over and start on it. "I'll have to see where you are drawing the service from and such. And let me know if you want me to tap in more or less to your systems." Then she grinned. "Or not at all." Because it was an option. Not her first choice, but an option.
Jason Todd Jason Todd nods, "Sure. Yeah. I live on 'em too" he admits. As she sets her box down, he moves to a small mini 'fridge near the garage area. It is indeed stocked full and he pulls two out before walking back toward Barbara as she looks at his car.

"I know you were, Barbara. I appreciate you coming." He offers over the drink with a smile. "I just.. don't want to act like it's owed or anything. I know you're taking time from other things to help me out. It means alone. Even if you're going to mock me forever for what I have set up" he admits sheepishly.

Thankful for the conversation shifting to talk of the car, he nods. "Just added in a new fuel monitoring system. I'm looking for something with more response than it had before. You know how it goes. Any advantage we can find. It's good enough to use out there already but I have more plans to add upgrades on it. I've got a bit more armor to add on and that will require more adjustments to the suspension and to the gearing to handle the weight better. It's always something" he lightheartedly laments.

He looks toward the box. "I'm sure it all needs reworked" he admits again with a nervous laugh, reaching up to rub the back of his neck before sipping at his own drink.

"But I really appreciate the help."

As she brings up the idea of linking his system with hers he looks surprised at the offer. "Yeah. Yeah sure. That would probably be good. I figure Bruce has his own ways into my network. But he's not going to help me keep things working if I can't keep up with it all myself. I'd rather it be up to your expectations, you know?"

He offers a smile toward her then looks away. Back to the car. Cars are easier to talk about.
Barbara Gordon She took the offered Monster with a murmured, "Thanks." THen she fell into listening as he explained what was going on with the car. Nods here and there to show she was paying attention. Made complete sense on the modifications that he was talking about. She probably wouldn't have even thought about the mods needed to the suspension with the added armor. Or maybe she would have? It was a bit beyond what she used with the whole motorcycle thing. There she just needed more speed as it wasn't going to be keeping her from getting hit by a stray bullet. So her mods were to make it lighter, faster, more efficient air flow from intake to exhaust.

She sipped the drink, glancing to see which flavor it was only after she had a mouthful. Then she gave a little shrug at mention of the computer systems. "Yeah, Bruce has a way into all our systems." Statement of fact by her tone. "But I try to be nice and give you all privacy if you want it. By hooking me in, I can monitor your security as well when you are out. Just an added measure," she said with a little half shrug of her shoulder as she started to move over toward his setup. "Though admittedly, I'm pretty sure my system is better than what he has now. Just saying." A little hint of humor in her tone as she probably did not but she liked to think she might've upped the man in that area.

Her emerald eyes were moving behind her glasses, ticking to the computer itself, the screen, the keyboard and mouse. "We may need to do a full upgrade," she murmured. "But I'll know more when I get inside. If you can unlock it for me?" Because she presumed he would have the system locked with a password. Or Voice recognition. Biometrics? Something!
Jason Todd Jason Todd falls silent, sipping at his drink, he just nods as he stares at the car. He has a bike, too. But some nights a car just makes more sense. "It's a good car. Plus. I have plans to make it my daily driver. But those plans require some high tech smoke and mirrors. And a system that controls color changing paint." He deadpans, "And flipping license plates. I've even figured out where I'm going to add the KITT scanner in the hood." It's a joke. Probably.

He nods to the knowledge that Bruce has links into everyone's network. "Yeah." There was a time, not long ago, when he'd have choice curse words for that fact among others regarding Bruce. Maybe things are beginning to change.

"I.." do not like to give up control. That's what his instincts try to get him to say. ".. think that's probably a good idea. You've become the central poing of contact for information for all of us. Even Tim's tech-nerdery has to bow to yours. It'd be pretty stupid of me to refuse that sort of support. Or put myself in a position where I can't actually help the rest of you." In other words, being useless.

He turns toward the small 'hive' area he has for computers. Really they aren't ancient. Nothing looks like it came out of the movie War Games. The displays are all at least LCD. Just not the newest. The cases scratched and beat up. One screen has been damaged - something hit it with velocity and put a divot into the plastic layer that is supposed to protect the delicate bits. From it are radiating spider cracks. But it's in the top right corner so he has just moved windows and programs away from the damaged area. It's still good. Right?

"Unlock? Yeah, sure."

He'll never have the words per minute prowess that Barbara has but at least he doesn't hunt and peck type with two fingers. Soon enough the main system is unlocked. "Whatever you need to do... I'll let you work your magic." Because he knows her skills are beyond next-level.

More like digital sorcery.
Barbara Gordon Once he has it unlocked, Barbara settles in at the keyboard. First she eneds to see what he had under the hood. So to speak. Pulling up information on the computers, checking to see what his Memory mgiht be, processing speeds, all those little bits and pieces that make a computer more or less efficient. "Mainly you what do you use it for specifically? Security monitoring, tapping into CCTV through the city or just streaming youtube?" Not that she was judging. Everyone used youtube! "Can get you hooked up on a few games if you want once I get to the software," she added with a little grin. Because she wasn't sure if Jason would or would not be gaming. But the idea of it amused her for some reason. Call of Duty came to mind when she thought of him for some reason. Though he'd probably get mad at the lack of realism on some of the weapons.

She did.

Then she reached into that box, pulling out a yellow notepad and a pen. She started scribbling notes on the paper for what he had and what she wanted to get to upgrade to. Then continued to work through his system. Hardware would come later though she did consider that spiderweb crack.

"Do I need to get you cheap monitors in case of...percussion damage?"
Jason Todd Jason Todd moves to the side and watches with the expression one would have if they got the opportunity to watch Zatanna perform a sleight of hand trick from just beyond her shoulder with a perfect view - and still having not the slightest clue how any of it was done.

He looks from her fingers as they fly across the keyboard to study her expression as she concentrates on what she's investigating, fact finding, to the screens where the work is being shown. He gets what she's doing. Just not a lot of how and where she's going in the system to find it all. Unlike the rumors about Black Canary's technophobia, he at least has a respectable set up. It's just. Old. It would have been out of date ten years ago. But it's still functional. Kinda.

He quietly mutters, "Cat videos." He's admitting to watching cat videos.

"I've got a few programs for bypassing firewalls and cracking passwords. But even the Mob upgrades their systems. I do research.. and yeah. The building's security is connected into it."

Then she had to go there. She had to mention the damaged screen.

He mutters dubiously. "Some asshole was cheating. I think it was my headphones." That hit the screen. He doesn't remember? Or he doesn't want actually admit it.

"Games would be cool. I mean unless you're talking about Sudoku or Mad Libs.. I'm not smart enough to figure those out like you are" he tries to tease. "I play GTA Online. And even though it hasn't gotten a lot of support, Red Dead Online." He pauses. "I like to walk through the forests and look at the mountains and the stream that runs through Big Valley. It's.. relaxing."
Barbara Gordon The only hint that he had surprised her was she clicked two keys at once, ending up with letters transposed in the process. It happened at the exact moment he mentioned cat videos. If he was watching closely enough, he might catch it and see her backspace quickly to fix it without really missing a beat.

Until he mentioned that someone had been cheating. And another typo. But she quickly fixed that one though she paused to look over at him for just an instant before continuing. "Sudoku is a lot of fun. Word games too. But I play some online stuff myself in my down time." She has down time? And when he mentioned the Big Valley, she paused and nodded adamantly. "Exactly! I mean, I'm not on Red Dead Online but I have a game I play, sort of a fantasy setting thing. I like to do the crafting and farming and such. It's very relaxing." She sniffed a bit. "Some people seem to think I'm silly for it." She did not say who those people were.

But she finished making her notes and shut down all the extra bits she had opened. "Let's get a look at your cables." Oh no, the dreaded cables. Because there were basically two types of people in the world. The ones with the Cable Monster under and behind their desks, where everything looked like spaghetti. And the Neat Freaks who had all the cables lined up in a perfect way, with little zip ties to hold them in place and looking far too professional. She had once been a Cable Monster herself. But in time, she had become the Neat Freak.
Jason Todd Jason Todd may have noticed one or both of the typos, if only from the break in the cadence of her typing. He may take some secret satisfaction in being the cause of those typos but he at least has the tact to pretend to be oblivious to them.

"I enjoyed the single player game. There are a lot of munchkins in the online part of it. But mostly people just leave you alone. Or I shoot them." Well then. "There isn't a lot of crafting in it. But the scenery is relaxing. It's.. kind of like you're walking around in Yellowstone or the Rockies." Given the grim-dark that Gotham is, the notion he might find a calming place in an old west themed game may or may not be a real surprise. Everyone has to find solace from this insane life somewhere.

He watches as she logs out and starts talking about his cables.

"I don't get cable. I just stream if I watch anything." Clueless, party of one.

But there's a glint in his eyes that suggests he's only playing oblivious. "I apologize now for the dust bunnies. Pretty sure the desk hasn't moved in. Uh. Ever."
Barbara Gordon Mention that he streamed and didn't have cable had her looking over at him sharply. Then she got the feeling from that little glint he was teasing and she had to giggle softly.

"And this is why I work my work clothes," Barbara said with another laugh at the mention of the dust bunnies. She quickly takes off the hoodie, folding it then draping it over the back of the chair she had just been sitting in. She did grab that box, pulling it so it would be within reach. Just in case she opted to change out some cables while she was down there.

Then a moment later, she disappeared under the desk with her feet sticking out as she poked around. "Not too bad. I've seen way worse," she said though her voice was slightly muffled due to the desk between her and Jason. But then something came to mind for her.

Babs peeked out around the edge of the desk as something he said earlier finally sank into her brain. "What's a KITT Scanner?"
Jason Todd Jason Todd gives her some space as she prepares to 'go in' and crawl under his desk. The idea of someone inspecting his unkempt cables and surge strips down there is a bit embarrassing.

'This is why I work my work in clothes' she says. And Jason immediately gets a thousand yard stare that, thankfully, she cannot see. There is a momentary pause. "Uh. Yeah. I'm pretty sure working in clothes is the ideal. Most places anyway." He's fairly certain she isn't working at places that have different policies. Uh.

Then she asks about the scanner and he is silently thankful for the changed thought processes. "KITT scanner?" He frowns at her, "Knight Rider? 80's series. Talking, self driving black Pontiac TransAm. Before-Baywatch-Hasslehoff?" He looks to her quizzically. She's the smartest person he knows. Hell, probably in all of Gotham or half the country practically. How can she -not- know who/what KITT was? The idea was mind blowing.

"You're the biggest geek I know. And that's a compliment by the way. I just would have thought you'd know what I was talking about..." he says with some wonder. Could he have really just stumped Barbara Gordon on pop culture?
Barbara Gordon While Babs did know a lot of pop culture, this particular item had escaped her education. She eyed him a moment, trying to place the reference. And Jason likely would be able to pick up on her looking off into space a moment as she made a mental note. A note to look up this KITT and Knight Rider and Hasslehoff. At least she knew the latter. She even knew Baywatch. But a talking, self-driving Trans Am was a new animal.

"Huh." And then she shrugged and gave him a little grin. "Being the biggest geek you know is a complete compliment. Though I do admit that you stumped me. I'll be looking it up as soon as I get back to the Clocktower. Because I don't want to lose any of my geek points."

She pushed herself out from under the desk.

"Show me where you are getting your internet from please?"
Jason Todd Jason Todd can't help but gawk at her when she admits to being stumped. "... holy shit." Yes it was a swear worthy moment.

"Even before Musk had self driving Tesla's and Jobs had Apple make Smart Watches, they were featured in the show. Also jumpsuits." He won't spoil that surprise. He'll leave it for her to 'meet' Bonnie and April.

"Sure. It's right over here.. I had to run the cable down myself from up in the church." Is he stealing internet access from a church??
