Firestar Angelica is in her dorm and going over several books. When she gets into study mode, she is locked on. Nobody should have that many books on Physics sitting on a book shelf, let alone sitting on her bed opened everywhere. Someone needs a life.
Lorna Dane There is a knock at the door, followed by a soft, female voice from the other side. "Firestar? It's Polaris. I hope this isn't a bad time, but I thought I'd stop by if you've time to chat."
Firestar Looking up from her books, Angelica raises a brow and then gets up and opens the door,"Hey." she says with a smile,"A chat would be great. The books are starting to talk to me, that can't be right." She motions her inside,"And it's Angelica please. Angel if you want, but that makes most women uncomfortable so..."
Lorna Dane Lorna is dressed casually, jeans and a cropped, green top. Instead of her usual boots she is wearing sandals. There's an almost regal confidence as she steps inside. "Angel, then." she replies. "It's just a habit of mine. My father insists that everyone uses their mutant name." Moving to settle onto a chair, she asks. "Do you know my father?"
Firestar Angelica, for her part, is wearing a pair of black sweat pants and a white tank top. She closes the door and walks back into the room. She motions towards the bed to sit or the two chairs,"Pick a place and have a seat." she offers.

The mention of her father gets a nod,"I have met him a few times. When I was involved with the Hellions, I saw him several times when the Hellfire club gathered." She shrugs and admits,"Iceman, Spidey, and I clashed with him once. Part of being young, impetuous, and sure you are right. I never agreed with what he did, but maybe fighting might not have been the right first choice." She shrugs,"We were young."
Lorna Dane Lorna settles casually, hooking one leg over the arm of the chair. "Most of the X-Men clashed with him at one time or another." she replies casually. "I didn't mention him to start a debate on ideology, either. He is a very passionate man who believes strongly in his ideals. And he truly believes in his methods."

Which might bring up the question of where his daughter stands. "I am fortunate in that I see the issues from both perspectives; my father's and the X-Men's."
Firestar Taking a seat on the other chair, Angelica nods,"I didn't really mean to debate either, just trying to make sure nothing tense comes up later. I agree with some of his thoughts. Not so much with others." She considers and says,"I might have a little bit of a bottle of Evan Williams if you'd like a drink.

"I get perspective. I was trained by Emma when she was a little...less friendly." Angelica agrees,"It is interesting to see more than one side of the line. I can't imagine what it would be like if I were her daughter and not just the favorite student she was grooming at the time." She snorts softly,"I don't know about you, but I was quietly being groomed to be a weapon for one particular enemy."
Lorna Dane "I wouldn't say no to a few pulls of whiskey." Lorna replies. "Personally, I've always found Emma to be -rather- friendly." Double emphasis on 'rather', even. "Like with my father, it's her methods that most people bring into question."

Her raised foot bobs a little and she asks. "So you've been inside the Hellfire Club? Was it socially or for... other... purposes? You have me curious, now."
Firestar Walking over to the cabinet she takes out a bottle, about half a bottle left. She gets two glasses and asks,"Everyone has their preferences. You want it over ice or straight?"

"Oh yes. Several times. It was kind of like the other side's Xavier's Mansion really." she explains,"Emma and I have a rocky past, but we pretty much buried the proverbial hatchet. Usually when I was in the club it was for social meetings. Emma showing off her charges. We encountered the New Mutants a few times. Sparks flew between us shockingly."
Lorna Dane Lorna rises as well, watching when Angelica takes out the bottle. "Straight is fine for me." she replies. "And if you don't mind, we can save the glasses and just share the bottle." Lorna moves to the bed, then, settling and leaning back on one hand. "I'm a member, albeit initially because of my father, but no one doubts my merit." She smiles a little. "At least no one questions it to me directly. I like the Club environment, for the most part. I just don't care for the politics so much."
Firestar      Not really thinking about it, Angelica shrugs and then heads over to sit on the bed,"Save the glasses is fine." she agrees and smiles at the mention of membership,"It's not really my crowd. I have trouble with crowds really. I like smaller groups." She shudders,"Politics." She sits on the bed and leans on the headboard.
Lorna Dane Lorna waits for Angelica to take the first drink. "I go there to watch, mostly. Watch the people in their playful, political dances." She shrugs, then. "That, and people are always interested in the girl with green hair. I daresay I'm almost as popular as the redheads."
Firestar A slow drink from the bottle and then she passes it to Lorna,"People watching from a high distance could be fun." she agrees. She tosses some of the books off the bed so they have more room to sit,"I think I would be more interested in the girl with green hair. Red heads have a reputation for being mean and evil. Some of us are."
Lorna Dane Lorna accepts the bottle, taking a slow pull from it as well. "I've heard that redheads have no souls." she replies ominously. Then Lorna grins. "Besides, people always want what they think they can't have. Redheads have that reputation." She looks over, then adds. "Most of you, anyway."
Firestar "Of course we're soulless. We're just husks of our humanity." she agrees and shakes her head. There is a nod in agreement,"That much is true. If you can't have it, there is a tendency to want it. When we were kids an old friend of mine got in trouble for trying to touch the heat register. Her mom told her if she put a finger on it, she'd get a spanking. So she got a blister on her toe instead." The reputation comment gets a laugh,"Yeah. I am afraid the reputation does exist."
Lorna Dane "I've personally had more trouble with blondes, but I think that's just me." Lorna replies wryly. "Everyone learns differently. Charles teaches from compassion, while my father teaches from strength. There are merits to both approaches." Lorna considers for a moment, passing the bottle back. "How did Emma teach?"
Firestar Angelica laughs softly,"Oh there were some blondes out there that caused a lot of trouble." she agrees and hmms,"You are right though. Everyone learns and teaches differently. Emma...she was subtle. She doted on us, but also forged each of us in her way. She was very careful with me because she knew I was potentially a nuke waiting to blow. She cared about us, in her way. She just wanted us to be...honed into weapons, just not openly."
Lorna Dane "Father always considered me his heir apparent, since our powers are so similar." Lorna replies. "I have only known Emma... socially. But she is quite subtle, yes. And she is a woman who knows what she wants." Lorna settles back onto her elbow, then, semi-reclining. "I must admit that it would be interesting to watch her work; to see her training.
Firestar "She put together a team. None of us are...really innocent anymore." Angelica replies,"That's not all on her, but she did succeed in most of her plans. She wanted weapons and she forged several, just not able to wield them together." she explains.

A soft laugh and she admits,"Last time I saw her in combat, she shifted to her diamond form and left the rest of us to fight. It wasn't overly surprising. She might be very careful training the heir apparent, but at the end of the day, mended fences or not, she always has an end game."
Lorna Dane Lorna shrugs lightly at that. "Innocence is the first casualty of war." she replies. "I suppose I'm not really surprised that Emma put herself first when it came time to make a choice." Lorna looks more directly at Angelica, then. "Did she teach her team to be selfish, then? Or isn't that why you didn't work so well together?"
Firestar "It usually is yes." she agrees,"As for her. I think she's...well she's consistent if nothing else. She takes care of her own skin before the others." She takes the bottle back and takes another drink before passing it back to Lorna,"We were a team. We took care of each other despite the way we were trained. Jimmy and I are...well we're very close to this day. Closer than the rest, but we were still close as a team."
Lorna Dane Lorna accepts the bottle back and takes a swig. "Jimmy, hmm?" she replies, with a playful smile. "Admittedly, I had never worked with a team until I joined the X-Men, and even then it took some time to show that I was not a spy of my father's." Lorna passes the bottle back. "It was lonely at first."
Firestar "Warpath." she amends,"We were close back in the day. I guess we kind of woke up and realized.." she shrugs,"...well you get the idea." She takes the bottle back,"I worked with several teams along the way. The Hellions, Alpha Flight, New Warriors." She offers the other woman a smile and adds,"Yeah. When I got here, I was worried they would think I was undercover or spying or anything like that." She winks,"Look at that, something we have in common."
Lorna Dane Lorna chuckles softly at that. "We are acquainted." she replies, on the subject of Warpath. "And yes, I get the idea. I won't name names, but that's another thing we have in common." Green brows lift, then. "Perhaps it is the way of us spies, yes?"
Firestar "Jimmy is...well Jimmy." Angelica comments. For someone that is an expert in Physics and radiation, she really does suffer in the smart conversation category. Curious about the other thing, her head cocks to the side a little, but then she smirks at the spy mention,"Such is the way." she agrees.
Lorna Dane Lorna nods slowly to that. "Well said." she replies. "I feel that you are no spy, any more than you have no soul. But we live in a world that is not defined by absolutes of black or white. Not even red or green."
Firestar Taking another drink, Angelica hands the bottle to Lorna and looks a little surpised. She thought she sounded a little odd judging by the look on her face. THe black and white gets her focus,"There are a lot of gray shades if that's what you're getting at. I know. That's part of how I ended up with the Warriors, they were mostly a good bunch, but we bent the rules now and then."
Lorna Dane "There's nothing wrong with bending the rules, every now and then." Lorna replies. She reaches out for the bottle, but her hand never grasps it. Fingers curl, magnetic flux lines lifting the bottle and guiding it to her lips for a drink. "Sometimes the right direction lies within the shades of grey."
Firestar "Now and then." she agrees, watching the bottle float over to Lorna. She smiles a little, but adds,"Not all the time, but sometimes. The world is getting too caught up in the grey though. Sadly there are far more than fifty of them."
Lorna Dane Lorna hesitates for a moment, then she laughs. "Yes. I have seen those movies." she offers. "They were... interesting. And not completely accurate. All the same, I find I like things in the grey." The bottle floats back over to Angelica, then. "Some things, anyway."
Firestar A smirk and Angelica takes the bottle from the air,"I managed to get through one. It was...something." she agrees. She is thoughtful for a moment and finally she asks,"What's bothering you Lorna? Something is on your mind. No judgement here. Whatever you say here is between us. My word."
Lorna Dane Lorna considers for a moment. "I walk in two worlds, Angelica. I am an X-Man. I am my father's daughter. Neither black nor white, no matter how you choose to define it." She shifts, looking more closely at the redhead, then. "But this isn't like in the stories, where the hero must choose sides in some epic battle. There will be no final reckoning; only more grey."
Firestar "I get it." Angelica admits,"I was walking for to the dark than the light. I heard it said once, no matter how much white you add, its always going to be grey. I try to pour as much as possible." She sighs,"I don't want to walk down the path Emma started again, but I was willing to make a deal with someone not very good a while back to protect my friends back in Canada, so I guess that puts more black in the mix. I don't know."
Lorna Dane Lorna Dane nods slowly, stretching her legs out and crossing her feet at the ankles. "Blending in even a little that is not white makes the whole less than white as well." she replies. "You cannot go back, any more than I can go back. That's not a bad thing, by the way. It is who we are. Trying to be something else only diminishes us."
Firestar "You are right. What we are is made by the past. Nobody makes the choices for us. When I figured out what was happening the school never forgave her for it." she smirks,"Fire is the great cleanser." A shake of her head and she adds,"We are what we make of ourselves."
Lorna Dane Lorna sits up a little, green lips pulling into a broad smile. "You don't drive by looking in the rearview mirror." she agrees, adding another metaphor. "I've learned to accept what I've done and look forward. And it sounds like we have that much in common as well." Her head tilts a little. "What are you looking for, Angelica?"
Firestar "You are right about that." she agrees when she talks about the rear view. She takes a deep breath and exhales,"A family." she admits finally,"I haven't really had one since I was a child and my grandmother died. My father couldn't deal with the mutation and mom died when I was very young."

She takes another drink, a little less deep this time,"When I came by here to let people know I was back in town from Canada and they offered me one here. I have someone teaching me real martial arts rather than just self defense. I have people who look out for me. I had some of that in Canada with the New Warriors, but not a lot. I finally took control of a relationship I neglected. Well, we took control. It is complicated, but I have a steady and loving relationship. We're not what you call normal, but we make it work."
Lorna Dane Lorna watches the redhead's face, and after Angelica takes another drink she lifts her hand. Fingers curl, bringing the bottle to her. Catching it in her hand, she takes a pull from the bottle before she responds. "I'm glad to hear that, Angelica. I couldn't tell you the last time I had a normal relationship... whatever that really means." The smile returns. "You are very fortunate."
Firestar Feeling the bottle pull, Angelica releases it and watches it float to Lorna,"I can't tell you the last time I had any real relationship honestly." she admits,"I am fortunate though, you're right. I found a home and while I am not technically an X-Man, I still get treated as such. It's hard to explain. I guess it's just good to have a place to call home."
Lorna Dane "That is one reason why I still return to Genosha." Lorna replies. "I am family there, even if I wasn't a princess." She extends her hand, and the bottle floats back towards Angelica. "Wanda. Pietro. They are both siblings. And my father is there as well. People do not understand the Brotherhood, but they are simply a different shade of gray."
Firestar Waiting for the bottle to return, Angelica takes it back from the air when it is closer,"I would wager some of those family gatherings can get tense. Those are some distinct and varied. I have never met your siblings, but I have heard stories about them." She smiles a little,"Mostly they are good stories. I didn't know what to expect that first time we met. I never met a Princess before. You are good company."
Lorna Dane Lorna smiles again, chuckling softly. "I have been called many things, but not often has it been said that I am good company. Thank you, Angelica." she replies. "You would like my siblings, I think. Especially Wanda. Father is so often focused on his work to relax these days."
Firestar "Well I like spending time with you." she replies to her, laughing a little as well,"Maybe sometime I will meet them. They both have reputation that I have heard about." She pauses at the mention of her father's work,"I am working on that one. Your father...no offense, well I try to not carry the past, but my memories of him. I had nightmares. Sorry. I try not to think about the past."
Lorna Dane Lorna smiles a little at that. "My father has given a lot of people nightmares." she admits, with a light shrug. "His intentions may be up for discussion, but his methods usually involve violence and death. 'Sacrifice a few for the many', that sort of thing." She shrugs a little, then. "I support his cause, but his methods are not always appropriate for the goal."
Firestar "Yeah." she admits softly,"Spidey and Bobby took turns making sure I was resting. It was a few nights, but eventually." She sighs and shakes her head,"Sorry I don't mean to attack your dad, even if that is what it seems like." she stumbles over her words now,"I mean...damn, you know what I mean."
Lorna Dane Lorna smiles softly and she nods. "I know what you mean. It's complicated, being on opposite sides of a conflict." She considers, then. "It's hard not to make it personal. But I understand. I know what you mean, and I don't think less of you because of it."
Firestar A look of relief crosses her face and she settles into the wall once more,"I appreciate the understanding." she tells her,"Last thing I need is someone with a grudge." she adds with her smile lighting her eyes a little again,"I definately don't exist on the same side of the mutant line as my father. He doesn't hate us necessarily, he just doesn't know how to...accept us either."
Lorna Dane Lorna actually laughs at that. "Angelica, if I held a grudge against everyone who had a conflict with my father, I would be at war with half of mankind." she replies. "But he considers all mutants who don't support his cause to be misguided, unappreciative, and disloyal." She shrugs again. "It's not personal for him, even. Believe it or not."
Firestar Angelica takes another drink, leaving a little more than just the bottom of the bottle covered. She hands the bottle over and says,"Finish him off. I'll get another tomorrow." Listening to her talk of her father again Angelica nods,"I got the imopression he honestly cared about mutants as whole and didn't like it much that Bobby and I were keeping company with a non mutant. She shrugs and admits,"I guess that's just the way things go." She pauses and shudders again,"I hate to think what he'd do if he took it personal."
Lorna Dane Lorna draws the bottle to her hand, then takes a deep drink to finish. "Thanks. Next time I'll bring a bottle." she replies. "And you're right. My father believes that Mutants are the future. Humans are the past. It's either one or the other. Both cannot exist together. He is rather closed-minded about some things."
Firestar "I look forward to it." she replies to the mention of bringing the bottle next time,"My father was pretty closed minded as I said, so we have that in common. They both think they are right whether they are or not. We find a way to exist. It shouldn't be in secret." Her phone buzzes and she frowns thoughtfully,"All right. I guess I have to go get a friend from the train station." She sighs and looks at the bottle. A wink and she says,"Good thing the friend knows what I am and is glad to be friends. Sorry, I have to run. Thanks for coming by." With that she waves and then heads out to get her friend.
