Batman For many people, maybe even most people, New Year's Eve is a chance to get together with family and friends. To celebrate the past year and look forward to the upcoming new one in the company of those that matter most. Or hey, maybe just party.

It is a given however that Batman is far, far from most people however. For him New Year's Eve is a night where more people tkae to the streets of Gotham City then most nights, making themselves vulnerable to all the threats in the city that would prey on them.

So it has been another busy, eventful evening, creeping towards four hours past midnight when he finally emerges from the Batcave below, still running a towel through his hair and dressed only in sweat pants and a t-shirt.

A far cry from the usually put together billionaire. And certainly not expecting company.
Zatanna Zatara But it is company that he is going to get.

It is pretty hard to surprise Bruce of course, at almost any time, but she managed to get Alfred on her side which helps a great deal, at least when it comes to catching him offguard in his own home.

Her own evening hasn't exactly been a quiet one either and in the end she played three different shows in three different cities, entertaining hundreds. And putting away a not insignificant payday in the process. Maybe not everyone's idea of a magical evening, but then Zatanna has already made her own magic.

It is not uncommon for her to be up this late -- one more thing that they have in common -- and when she hears him enter the library she steps into the shadows, murmurs a few words... and appears beside him, stepping out of another patch of shadows cast by the fire roaring in that huge hearth. Leaning in, she presses a kiss to his cheek and smiles. "Happy New Year's Bruce."
Batman It is not often that Bruce is taken by surprise -- and even less often that he would ever admit it even if he were -- but Zatanna does indeed manage to do just that with her stepping through the shadows trick.

The towel that he is still running through his hair to finish drying it is very nearly dropped and he starts to whirl before abruptly relaxing at the feel of those lips on his cheek, the familiar voice murmuring those words.

"Happy New Years Zanna," he returns quietly, a wry smile sliding over his features. "It's late. About the last thing I expected was to see you tonight," he says drily, slipping a hand into hers and starting to lead her towards one of those comfy sofas arrayed out by the fireplace.
Zatanna Zatara "I know," Zee replies, her mouth quirking upwards ever so slightly in amusement as she lets her fingers lace with his, following him towards the fire laid out by Alfred earlier. "That's why I figured that I could catch you off guard," she points out impishly.

Sinking down onto the couch cushions, that warm smile lingers on her expression, half turning as she settles herself to better face him. "Busy nigh?" she asks casually. Probably unnecessarily. It almost always is, afterall.
Batman "Mission successful then," the dark haired billionaire conceeds drily. The warm glow of the fire is something he frequently seeks out after his nightly patrol, probably more for the childhood memories of this room, no matter how bittersweet they might be now. "But if you tell anyone that I admitted that I'll deny it to my dying breath," he points out, amusement still coloring his words, the sort of tone that few others can bring out in him.

He's kidding. Probably.

"It's nice that you made the effort and it's always good to see you. No matter the hour. I trust that Alfred made sure that you had anything you needed? Something to eat? Drink?"
Zatanna Zatara "I can always play back those words with magic Bruce. I have you on record. There's no getting away from it," Zee points out with a cheeky grin. Under the right circumstances she would probably go right ahead and do that too, if she felt it necessary for any particular reason.

"Of course he did. You know Alfred. He's the best," she notes, patting the cushion beside her and arching a brow as she casts a grin up at him. "Come have a seat with me. I won't bite," she notes before adding teasingly. "Unless you ask nicely."
