Emma Frost     Emma is... well, okay, as icy cool and distant as ever, while still giving off a gentle warmth towards Kitty and Rachel as she leads them past busily working landscaping crews and janitorial staff. The academy seems to have been subjected to some sort of cataclysmic fight, indeed, there are even heavy moving vehicles with Frost Industries logos loading up what look like damaged and destroyed robots or mech suits... but also spraypaint and toilet paper hurled about like juvenile delinquents were unleashed.

Emma just shakes her head as she reaches the door to the dorm complex, lifting a small security fob that causes the door to click and unlock. She breezes it open with a wide smile and murmurs, "And this, is, of course the dormitory. It's really more of an apartment building than anything. I mean, I -do- trust my students to be able to handle cooking, there's no high decree that hot plates are verboten." She looks back out at the disaster that is her once pristine landscaping and murmurs softly, "Although I -may- require thorough security checks for any visitors from Xavier's school. Really... who has time to fight robots -and- vandalize a school?"
Kitty Pryde     It was a nice enough ride over to Metropolis again, this time sans Frost. Afer Kitty's introduction to the Academy of Tomorrow a short week ago the girl's admittance has been pursued by Emma Frost, the school's headmistress. Recently though the brunetter was distracted by discovering Rachel Goldman. The blonde girl was older than her but Kitty felt somewhat protective of her. When Ms. Frost indicated that Rachel might qualify for a scholarship as well Kitty pushed the blonde to at least consider it. The limo ride down was a first step in convincing Rachel that Ms. Frost might actually be serious. After being treated to a rather lovely brunch off campus they arrive for their tour. Kitty is all ooohs and ahhhs. The girl does have to pause and ask in a somewhat confused way, "Wait, what sort of school fights robots? That's crazy."
Rachel Goldman     The other girl cocks her head, taking in the wreckage, the...robots, the grafitti, reading some of it. "....okay, I have to agree with her...robots? Why are there robots attacking your school? And why were students from the other school FIGHTING robots at your school?" she says, hands in her pockets as she follows along. She seems more bemused than anything else. "Is this, like, a thing?" She supposes if it was a minor robot attack and more a sparring thing, she could actually enjoy that on some level...and Kitty could just phase through them to short them out, so there's that.
Emma Frost     Emma just sighs again and shakes her head, "All very good questions. Unfortunately, their chaperone likely couldn't have provided me with a clear answer between his 'folksy charms' and predilection for staring at my chest. Probably one of them came back in time and told the others about killer robots they angered in the future who were coming back in time, but would wind up in my school... and rather than -call- me, or the police, they showed up and did all this. They're a very unusual school. I'm not actually sure their teachers are accredited." She shakes her head and hums softly as the door closes and air conditioning takes over, leaving the sound of the cleanup behind. "I really do not understand. I mean, I've certainly been looking into robots as... training devices, but why you'd have them run amok in someone else's school is beyond me. At least they didn't damage any of the plumbing. If the saunas were broken, I would -not- have been so understanding. I mean, I certainly understand the need for students to be able to explore their unique abilities, but I would prefer -my- students explore them at my school... and preferably without ruining the entire lawn."
Kitty Pryde     Kitty justs get quieter and quieter. A finger idly taps on a series of doorknobs as they pass. There's a pause while she listens, glancing over more and more at Emma as she suddenly starts checking to make sure she knows where the exits are. Finally she says in a loud voice, "What???! Why are you talking about crazy things like they are normal?! Who needs training robots?! Those would cost like mucho bucks! How can you say any of that with a straight face?! That's straight out of the Capes section of the newspaper!"
Rachel Goldman     Rachel seems to catch the sudden concern in the other girl, looking over at her, then turning her attention to Emma as her gaze sharpens a bit, her hands sliding out of her pockets, fingers curling slightly. "You didn't mention anything about kids with powers before..." she says steadily. "You've got people like that here?" And she honestly is trying...her first reflex is to go into paranoia. But Kitty talked her into giving Emma a chance, so she wavers a bit, waiting for her to explain. Though she reaches out to catch Kitty's hand as she starts to talk loudly, giving her a little squeeze as she looks over at her.
Emma Frost     Emma's eyebrows perk up slightly as she hums out, "Oh... well, I mean, they -are- more and more common. Really now, I assure you any students I take on will be carefully considered, and no more dangerous than either of you!" She keeps one eyebrow lifted as she smiles crookedly, "Besides, I -am- thinking that if the school were... well, a school first, with the unique abilities of my students not being advertised as a selling point, we won't need to worry about giant robots bothering us nearly so often." She laughs softly and leans in, crooking a finger to the girls, inviting them in closer as she stage whispers, "I mean, you didn't think all I was was a pretty face, did you girls? ...Well, I mean, not -just- face..." She shrugs her shoulders and snickers softly, "But I'm sure you get my point, hm?"
Kitty Pryde     Suddenly Kitty appreciates the fact that she wore sneakers today. In her short time knowing Rachel the two have bonded to a degree. They've hung out, eaten churros, gone shopping, been involved in a foot chase and discovered they each have a rather unique ability to pass through solid matter. They've learned to trust perhaps more easily than either would with any other complete stranger. To the point where Rachel divulged how she was once invited to an elite school that was simply a disguise for an elite black ops teams that treated the blonde worse than a slave and certainly less than human. Kitty just takes a step back, not sure exactly how to handle this situation. Her face is a mix of emotion as she remains quiet at this easy back and forth. But from the stiffening of her spine and the tension in her muscles, it's fairly easy to see she has one thing on her mind.
Rachel Goldman     Rachel watches Emma intently now, her head tilting as she shifts slightly in her stance, her weight adjusting automatically as her eyes watch Emma coolly. She can feel the tenseness in Kitty's hand, the way she stiffens up. "...you have abilities too...." she says slowly. Not questioning, but accepting. "Is that why you wanted us here?" The other girl can feel Rachel's tighten around hers a little. It's her fear...but she's not what she was the first time it happened, either. Her jaw tightens a little bit as she shifts her weight to the balls of her feet slowly.
Emma Frost     Emma shakes her head quickly, raising her hands in a placating gesture, "Oh no! No, dears. I -do- actually want to do some good for the next generation. It was a terrible experience working my way through school -and- dealing with my unique gifts. If I can help others avoid that now, I'd like to." She lets out an almost self-conscious little laugh as her arms cross under her chest, hands cupping opposing elbows, "I mean really... if I was up to some sort of fiendish scheme, I probably wouldn't worry about clothes shopping and school tours. Let alone the private tutoring I intend to offer to students!" She clicks her tongue softly, head tilting as she lifts her eyebrows. "I'll admit, the... unpleasantness of having to deal with Xavier's school and their unusual issues is... worrying. But you can always... ah... prank them back as it were. And I assure you I won't let any harm come to my students."
Kitty Pryde     The fact that Kitty isn't running is a good first step. But the girl is still rigid and she grips Rachel's hand a bit tighter for a moment as she involuntarily phases the both of them. The inherent defensive reaction actually helps calm the slowly growing headache she's feeling, even if she hasn't actually noticed she's done it yet. The brunette isn't all fear though, the steel is there, at the core. "How'd you find out about us?" Kitty's tone is flat, but strong, she carefully considers Emma, keeping her eyes firmly training on the teacher. Thoughts of her own family, terribly vulnerable are first in her mind.
Rachel Goldman     There's a faint bluish flicker that runs over the girls' hands where they hold onto each other. It's like a domino effect, her power triggering Rachel's as the other girl phases with her, almost reflexively. She hasn't turned her intent gaze from Emma. Still balanced where she is, but not acting, not putting that leashed energy into motion.

She doesn't object to Kitty using 'us'. They're in it together, it doesn't matter if she knows about both, or only one. The only sign of her internal distress is quickened breathing. There are no soldiers here. Just Emma. It's not the same, she tells herself. She's not Ivana. She's not the same? But...is she?
Emma Frost     Emma seems to consider this carefully, her mouth moving slowly for a moment before she sighs out, "It's... my gift. Part of it, anyhow. Although to be fair, I only knew about you, Kitty. I didn't want you being tempted into Xavier's school without knowing there were... more comfortable options available to you!" She laughs softly, almost ruefully and murmurs out, "And your first visit was so delightful I simply had to meet up with you again, and meet your friend." She quirks an eyebrow and hums, "Who, I'll admit, I didn't know also had any sort of... extra ability beyond your -outstanding- taste in fashion, Rachel."

Emma's shoulders lift and fall in a little shrug, "And so now you know my -terrible- secret! I'm actually not the frigid ice queen everyone claims... but do -please- avoid letting that out, hm? I think it would break the staff's hearts if they knew I was never really considering holding back Christmas bonuses when I give them out at the end of the year."
Kitty Pryde     Kitty just grips Rachel's hand again as her eyes narrow. Her gaze dances between the two blondes for a bit as she simply considers things. Her thoughts drift to some place not here. The conflict plays on her face for a bit, the girl rolling the possibilities over and over in her mind. For now, she is simply quiet.
Rachel Goldman     As Kitty falls silent, Rachel stirs a bit. "You could....feel that Kitty has abilities." Her voice is quiet. She isn't sure what to think of that. It's not important that she knows that she can do something like Kitty, but it is a bit unsettling to think that other people can detect her WITHOUT her knowning, too. "And there's a....grudge between you and Xavier, or something? What's what that stuff outside was, the grafitti and...such?" She frowns more. "...that school, it's looking for people with abilities too?"
Emma Frost     Emma shakes her head, "Oh, no nothing of the sort. If anything, I imagine Xavier would be delighted if we merged our schools. More a... difference of opinion. Charles has so much conviction in his belief that those of us with abilities should neuter ourselves. Be less than we are so those who do not have the same will not be afraid of progress and change. Ignoring the fact these people are never scared when those like us put ourselves at risk to -save- them, no, so long as we're proper lapdogs and servants, they're content." Emma clicks her tongue sharply, head giving a firm shake, "I simply believe there is no point in learning to -suppress- our natural abilities. We should learn to become fully comfortable with them, as we should be with ourselves in all things, no?" She shrugs with a sigh, "Sadly, most educational institutions disagree, and insist upon restrictive rules, or outright refuse powered students. I simply wish to provide an alternative where you are free to revel in yourselves."
Kitty Pryde     And Kitty's basic instincts are kicking in. This is all too much far too quickly and it's showing on the girl's face. Apparently Emma has already dropped Kitty into a category and decided that's what she is. And if there is one thing that the Jewish girl is not okay with, it's being grouped, segregated or singled out because of something that she simply can't control. Oh no, that triggers every single warning bell grandpa ever helped put in her pretty little head. Her speech is fast, strained and trying to sound cheerful without being terrified. "Thanks for the tour Ms. Frost maybe we can do it again and I'll think about what you said. ButIneedtogo," she looks at Rachel, "we need to go?" She looks hopeful also a bit terrified still and she takes a step back, still holding Rachel's hand, "ButyeahIneedtogo. Umm, things came up, I'll give you a call later and stuff."
Rachel Goldman     Rachel's much more experienced instincts have her on edge....she has been, at least a little, around Emma since she first found out she was recruiting. But Kitty had talked her down from actively hyperventilating over it. She'd accepted she probably was seeing things that weren't there, doubting her judgement. She....doesn't know how to feel. Maybe it's not the same, maybe it is.

It's Kitty's evident stress that tips things for her, as she lets herself be pulled back by the other girl, not resisting as she takes one step back as she meets Emma's eyes. "...I don't know if I trust you." she says, bluntly. "I've been told this before. I've been told I was special, that there was a special school just for me. And it was looking for people with powers too."

    "...and it was hell, Emma."

Her voice tries to be steady, emotionless, but there's a telltale tremble of her lip. "...if you didn't trust us with this...why should we believe you're not hiding even more?
Emma Frost     Emma sighs and figures... well, in for a penny, in for a pound. She reaches out with a little telepathic nudge. Well, more of a big nudge. Subtlty is, of course, the key. And so she just tries to shift the focus of that nervousness and semi-terror. It's all about that vandalism, oh yes. And, of course, the worry of Metropolis being so far from home family visits would be trouble! Certainly nothing about -powers- or the potential for secret teams of powered individuals. She shakes her head, glancing between Rachel and Kitty. "No, this isn't a school -for- people with powers. I'm not looking to gather up powered individuals for some sort of crusade or... secret army or whatever the rest of those short-sighted misguided fools have done. I simply intend to provide a place -for- people with powers. Others are welcome, any outcasts, anyone who can't find a place. Free to be themselves, free of the prejudices and judgment of homes and pasts."

Emma's eyes give a slow roll, "If only for my own benefit. I started my own academy simply because -my- past was constantly being used as judgment against me. The work I did to gain my degrees, my personal reputation, all unfairly held against me simply because people felt threatened. I will not force anyone to join my academy, I will not disclose who has powers or doesn't." She shrugs her shoulders with a low sigh, "I'm not going to force you girls to consider it... but I think if you do, you'll realize you could find a place here." She quirks her lips into a little smirk, "After all, you'd each know someone to room with."
Rachel Goldman     Of the two, Rachel's mind is harder to push. It's like she's built up the equivalent of psychic scar tissue somehow, and even with the expert push, she twitches, her eyes blinking as her will fights back. It is...dangerous here, and there was a fight. She's not...sure immediately why she's thinking of Emma as dangerous, but the school only involves powered people, it's not the same..is it?

...no, it doesn't matter. Kitty....she's freaking out. This can wait. She'll...she'll try to think through this when she's not here, when she doesn't feel so...confused and...well, scared. Kitty's obvious fear isn't helping with the latter.

"...then...you'll...be fine if we go. Now." she says, blinking rapidly for a moment as she shakes her head slightly. "I...yes...you can...maybe talk later and..." She straightens up a bit, looking back at Kitty, as if that is her touchstone that helps her organize herself again. "...we're going for now." she says, then turns and starts to walk off with a quick, long stride, not looking at Emma.
Kitty Pryde     Kitty doesn't know what to think at this point, but she's so done with this. She's got a death grip on Rachel's hand and is charging through the facility. Nothing makes sense but she's right now focusing most on how everything about this place is sending up all sorts of red flags. Ms. Frost obviously has enemies if they're willing to send killer robots and vandals after her school, and how did a battle happen here? Robots from the future is crazy, well, crazier than even this place seems to be. She definitely doesn't want anything to do with this, at least not right now. Even if it was a full scholarship. But first outside, then maybe some calming window shopping and then trying to figure out how the hell they were going to get back to New York without a chauffeured limo ride.
Emma Frost     Emma lets out a soft, resigned sigh and nods her head slowly, downright calmly even. Her lips curve back into that warm, welcoming smile from the start of the tour. "Of course, Ms. Pryde, Ms. Goldman. As I said, there's no intention to force anyone to enroll." Her eyebrows lift slightly, "Please, go home and relax. The limo will take you back. Metropolis may not be Gotham or New York, but... well, best to be safe." She laughs warmly and murmurs, "Perhaps I can arrange a meeting with you two and one of my students, without me. You can ensure that everything is on the up and up without worrying about whether or not they're only giving a good speech because they think I'll give them low marks otherwise, hm?"
Kitty Pryde     There's not a response from Kitty or Rachel, the girls are already beating feet. In fact Kitty gets a somewhat nervous shiver down her spine from how clear Emma's little speech was even as the pair turned face and charged off in the middle of it. Oh yes, much to talk about, much to avoid thinking about, worse things to actually eventually confront. Being an adult sucked.
Rachel Goldman     But, RAchel shall think to herself, at least they don't have to walk back!
