Owner Pose
Wu     The first thing visitors notice in China Basin is the smell. It's a heady mix of sea smells from the docks, weird spices and foods from the "ethnic" stalls and restaurants (and street vendors, even, though they skirt the licensing quite a bit), the sweat of masses of humanity packed together, and the pungent odor of clashing perfumes and aftershaves from the white bread tourists who come to gawk on their way to the baseball game or the boat tour.
Then there's the noise. The never-ending babble; that "rinao" the ethnic Chinese seem to want like oxygen. People talk and gesticulate and pontificate and babble all in a loud voice, striving to be heard over everybody else's voice. And here, of course, the babble is in a mix of languages--often in the same sentence--as people switch artfully between English, Spanish, Cantonese, Mandarin, and other even more obscure dialects in the course of their conversation.
Then there's the lights. Oh lordy the lights. The inner child of the Chinese majority, never far from the surface, shows itself in the neon and LED lighting flashing and blinking and moving and sliding and generally advertising wares in the faces of anybody passing by. Even small stalls have flashy, garish, LED displays to scream into the night what their owners provide service- or goods-wise.
And in the middle of this is Alice, walking quietly and appreciatively through this little slice of home. Chatting with the third-generation Chinese in her native language, taking small gifts in return: a baozi here, an apple there, all consumables, all low-cost. (If she's on the take for anything serious, she's canny about hiding it.) In her hand she holds a canvas bag filled with strange dried plants, rice paper squares, crepe paper banners, brushes, inks, and other such oddball paraphrenalia.
Crimson Avenger A rather skinny Mandrin man would be running through the streets pushing people aside shouting in his native language,"Zouchu wo de lù! Ta lái zhao wo! Hóng mógui!" He would then shove a street vendor into the street in a attempt to slow the man chasing him. This Red Devil as he was called by the Man was the Crimson Avenger (Really lee travis) Lee was not playing around as he presued his quarry. This man he was after ran drugs for the triads into gotham, and lee was after the location of the warehouse. Lee rean with all his might to catch up with the man, the Led lights and the constant exposure to both crowds and over bearing lights did little to slow both of the men, One running for his life the other running for information. The crowds grew denser as in desperation the triad would run into a restraunt to hide from Lee. Unfortunately for him lee saw him run in and barged in after him. Lee would give a bone crunching punch to the triads face as he would then drag him into the kitchen. Once their Lee would say in his Avenger," I will give you one chance, talk or you will regret ever running into the restraunt". The triad would respond by spitting on Lee's shoes, which would promptley cause lee to slam the Mans left cheek on one of the restraunts grills, causing the triads screams to echo out into the street
Wu     Watching the chase with some detached amusement, Alice turns away to comment to the vendor selling trinkets when the screams begin. She pinches the bridge of her nose and shakes her head. "Always on my nights off," she mutters. She presses her bag into the vendor's hand.
"Qing bang wo baoguan haozhè ge bao xianxiang," she asks, plaintively sighing as she heads in the direction of the restaurant.
At the restaurant she flashes her badge and signals customers and employees both to get out of her way. She walks up behind Red and asks, politely, barely audible over the screaming, "Is there something I can help you with?"
She looks down at the man on the grille, recognizes him, looks up. "Some spices maybe? Soy sauce?"
Crimson Avenger Lee looked with a modest surprise when he heaedr the lady speaking to her. He realized pretty quickly that it was a cop, but when he heard the sugestion of soy sauce for grilled triad he would then say to her," Hold on a minute Mam". He would throw the now partly cooked triad on the kitchen floor and say," Now are you going to tell me where you keep it"? The triad nodded pitifully and said," The Hongkong fish house ! just please do not use that deep frier". Lee looked back at the lady and say," There you have it, trying to break some of the triads activites here, now hold on a minute". He then turned back to the triad and said," You may have confessed to your crime, but sadly the grill was not for that crime, just mereley..interrogation. Now your real punishment begins". He would procede to stomp on the mans exposed arm, causing a very audible crack as the triad screamed in pain," You are lucky it was just your arm". He then turned to the lady and said," Before i go forward with a proposal of mine may i know your name"?
Wu     Alice winces with sympathy at the triads' arm stomp.
"Alice Gulliver," she says to the query, eyeing both the man on the ground (with quite a bit of coldness; apparently they're not on speaking terms or something) and his assailant., this with more curiosity than detachment. "Detective Gulliver," she amplifies. "Hong Kong Police." She flashes a gold badge on her right lapel. She then flashes a silver one on the other. One with GCPD on it, although theirs are also usually gold...
"On assignment and deputized into the Gotham City Police Department," she continues. "So that kinda makes me a cop here, which means I kinda need you to stop so flagrantly abusing the rights of suspects in my presence. At least let me turn my back first, would you?"
She flashes a rare smile. It's then directed downward at the bagman. The smile there is more ... baring of teeth.
"Not that this one here is worth any tears, but do you realize the paperwork that's involved when you have cross-jurisdictional issues and vigilante reports? It's good that I'm off-duty right now."
Her face darkens and she adds in Chinese, directed at the guy on the floor, "Ganxiè ni de cáifù. Wo zhèngda suànshale ni. You understand boy!? Of course you do."
A distinctive, acidic, acrid scene arises from the man as fluids cover his trousers.
Crimson Avenger "Hong Kong to gotham eh ? well atleast you will not have to deal with the paperwork since your off duty, not that the police have been real fans of me lately, but that is beside the point, Miss Gulliver". As lee took a quick look at the pitiful sight of the man before him he would then say," Since we are on name to know basis now, Call me Crimson Avenger". He then pulled out a strage bullet that appeared to have a greenish gas center and loaded it into a pistol. He would then look up and say to Alice," Now here is my proposition, this fucker just exposed where the Triads are hiding their latest shipment of Heroin, I intend on ransacking the place and cleaning house, you intrested"?
Wu     Alice wordlessly opens her vest to reveal the two handguns that were prominently bulging under her arms beneath it.
"The ladies and I are ready. Just let me deliver some purchases home -- I live in the neighbourhood -- and we can head off. Since it's specifically these guys ..." A quick kick to the guy on the ground, 'accidentally' hitting his arm, "... Oh, sorry 'bout that! ... that I'm in town for, I don't mind cracking them open. I'll call you an informant."
She quickly heads out the door, sprints to the vendor to grab her stuff and vanishes down a side alley that's ... a bit dubious quality-wise. True to her word she's back, having apparently also decided to bring a small, form-fitting knapsack along with her.
"Supplies," she says mysteriously before the question is asked.
Crimson Avenger Lee would then say as they began walking towards the location," I fully expect that his Hong Kong fishhouse is not only a drug storge front, but also used for human trafficing into the country, so when the bullets start flying try with all your might to hit any innocents that could be running around". Lee stopped breifly to slip a 50 to a rather stout Chinese man who gave him a map. " Mr Chu, despite his less than steller reputation around these parts has maps of almost every building in the district, so i deem his services useful enough so i will not have to....Intervene". Lee took a quick look at the map and muttered something to himself before continuing with alice to the Fishhouse. They would stand in the alleyway as lee pulled out the pistol and put on a small gas mask and say, "you might want to hold your breath for this". He would then shoot the bullet into the window of the fishhouse which would release a green gas which would steep into the alleyway as a Triad would barge out of the building coughing before collapsing unconscious," The gas does that if you breathe it in". He would then walk in cautiously as the gas began to spread across the main lobby of the fish house.
Wu     There's an amused glint in Alice's eye as Lee talks about innocents. "I'll try to keep that in mind," she says with a polite smile as they approach. "Shooting innocents would be terrible indeed."
The effects of the gas gun are noted with a more sombre nod, eyes narrowing as if she were making mental notes. She purses her lips.
"Hold up a second," she says. "I've got some prep of my own to do."
She absently grabs the little pendant of Guanyin hanging around her neck by a red silk thread and eyes the warehouse, looking it over left to right. Her eyes narrow on the left hand side as her expression goes thoughtful. She fumbles in her pocket for a sheaf of rice papers, all of them crowded with calligraphic characters and sorts through them, picking out three. One she crumples and eats, swallowing it whole without chewing. One she licks the back of and sticks ... to the back of her neck? That's unusual... The final she crumples and palms. The magazines come out of her guns and go into her pockets, different mags taking their place.
"OK," she finally says. "I'm ready to go." Following him inside she appears to be unconcerned by the gas.
    And unaffected somehow.
Crimson Avenger Lee already being inside the building would not notice the rice paper ritual but what he did notice was the fact that she appeard unaffected by the gas," How the..."? He would think but he decided that question could wait. As they approached the opening of the warehouse they would suddenly be facing armed triads that upon seeing the gas knew who was coming after him. He would open the door and be greeted with a hailstorm of bullets which he would barley miss. He then dove into cover and would say," So much for the silent approach".
Wu     The balled up rice paper gets silently flicked through the open door. Alice pulls out her "ladies" and in a double-hand stance that ... isn't really pointing at the door? That can't be right. Must be distortion from the gas. Whatever. Holding her guns out before her she goes down on one knee and ... What? Bows her head? CLOSES HER EYES!?
Her lips move. They seem to be saying "Bang, bang, you're dead!" but the noise of the gunfire is drowning her out.
Their gunfire at first, but then hers.
A fusilade of bullets flies from the barrels of Alice's "ladies". One shot alternating after the other, left, then right, then left, then right. Ten rounds ... and dammit they AREN'T pointed at the door! ... fly into the night. Ten bullets land. One on each knee of the five thugs taking potshots at the Crimson Avenger.
    The BACK of each knee.
"I think," Alice says quietly as she stands, "that they're going to offer a little less resistance now. You go right. I'll take the left. Be careful with your shots. You might hurt innocents."
    Her smile is maddeningly placid.
Crimson Avenger Lee seeing the men taken out by alice would say to her," Good Job, now lets clean house". Lee would go right and begin searching the building, he eventually found the drugs hidden in the fish freezer. Lee would then gather the drugs that was stored in the freeze and placed them in a nearbye furnace. Sure he could of given the drugs to the police but knowing the GCPD one of the more corrupt officers could easily resell it, better to dispose of them and keep them out of circulation forever than resale. He then walked out of the building and stood on the front of the building waiting to insure that Alice herself would make it out of the building.
Wu     Alice saunters out a few minutes (and a lot of popping sounds) later. "I found this on my end," she says, holding up what looks like a transparent jerry-can of some kind of green sludge. "I'm going to have to call this in. There's some very strange stuff going down in there. These guys are into something bigger than just Heroin. Looks like their operation is funding this, in fact."
She looks back at the carnage by the door where the five thugs are coughing and moaning at their injuries.
"Your way is cleaner," she opines. "But mine is more satisfying. I love the sounds."
She faces the Crimson Avenger. "You'd better scamper. I've called in the GCPD and this place will be crawling with cops; I don't think you want to be seen. I'll tell them that I spotted you in China Basin, followed you out here on suspicion, and then of course when gunplay started I intervened. I don't know anything about you so ... well, they can ask all they like."
