Boris Its late night in Metropolis. Most people were begining to head home from their place of work to either careing families, or just a good movie to watch. That or more work for the workahlics out there

But of course there were the unsvaory sort, even in this part of town where the crime rate was not that high. An occasionly mutant bash or mugging is not unheard of.

Of course, one teenage mutant...didn't exactly know this or even where he was. Not having been in america long, Boris had a few hours ago ran away from the apartment he was staing in. He had on an oversized trench coat that closed around him and a big floppy hat. Along with his aviator goggles as well as a sweater, he was pretty bundled up with a backpack. As he walked, there was a constant but soft tremor as he tried to figure out where he was.
Jacky Diamond It's a long way from Yonkers? Well ... not THAT far. Jack Winters is following a hunch. He has a peculiar kind of psychic power, a bit flakier than some of the established hotshots, and every once in a while an ESP vibration tells him that he needs to go somewhere in particular, but not really why. So he's gotten off a bus, in a part of town he hasn't been at before. And there's an ugly vibe to the neighborhood tonight. Someone wants to play. Not in a nice way. He isn't sure where they are yet, but they're ... that direction.

Jack is a young man, in his late teens or early 20s, and in his oversized jacket he looks a bit like a lost college kid. So he's the kind of target they might want. He seems a bit drunk, stopping with eyes closed and weaving a bit.
Boris Jack ESP will saddly...be on track tonight. Trouble was brewing. Almost everyone that passes by seems to have an almost sinister air to them. But no one, at least at the moment seems to do anything...however a particular group shoves past Jack, not seeming to care much about drunken folks tonight....they were after something else. They seethed with hate towards people of another kind - towards mutants. Beat em, shoot em, kill em where more or less what summed up any surface thoughts. Jack was normal looking enough to go unnoticed even if Drunk.

Those same people...were trailing Boris who was not very far from Jacky. They were following the tremors the teen was creating. Boris whiskers twitched as he glanced around....he didn't even know what he was sensing. But he began noticing he was being following. He picked up the pace, and so did the group. And quick walking soon turned into running.
Jacky Diamond Oh, that lovely psychic scent of the noveau KKK never gets old. That's a lie. It's WAY past the point of being old and is now Overdone.

The drunk-seeming fellow lurches in the direction of the haters, and then turns into a quick trot the minute they start running. He's blending in, pushing a mental "don't notice me" vibe that should keep him from being immediately interfered with, and pulls a bandana out of his pocket. It has eye holes cut in it and is long enough to tie into a half-face-mask sort of thing. He puts it on. That plus his rather generic clothes? A good enough disguise if you can push people not to recognize you.

Once the group begins to reach the young man, though, Jacky sends him a brainwave.

"You're not alone. Don't panic."
Boris Don't panic? Boris been a mutant (well realized mutant) less than a month. Needless to say he wasn't used to telepathy....or having to run for his life. He shouts behind himself in german "Stay away from me!" as he tries to run even faster, the tremors becomming worse!

But at least the mental "don't notice me" vibe was working all too well! The mutant basher didn't even notice that Jacky was folloing behind them as they picked up speed. Other around simply step aside for jacky... as well as trying to avoid the entire running group

Boris turns into an alleyway and runs down it, the gang following close behind. It was a deadened. Boris turns hoping to run back out....but yea the basher were blocking away. They began pulling out metal pipes, wooden bats, a chain or two, and one even had a gun. The quacking was getting worse, but the wasn't so bad people couldn't compensate for it yet.
Jacky Diamond Oh, this won't do. Guns are bad, m'kay?

The guy with the gun is subjected to a series of horrifying mental images: bullets tearing into his friends as his gun misfires, the gun itself jamming and exploding maiming his hand, the slide sticking and then being launched into his eye, it's like having every anti-NRA nightmare suddenly crawling through his head. If that doesn't make him want to put the thing down, carefully, then something else will be required. Meanwhile, though, a secondary suggestion to the gun-wielder: his bladder is very very full, and he's suddenly relaxed.
Boris The man with the gun hand is shaking uncontrollably after witnessing those nightmarishs anti-NRA images in his mind. And his own imagination kicks up comming up with even worse things! He tosses the gun aside quickly

This startles his friends as they ask "You wimping out man, come on!"

"N-n-no! Mutant gotta die it just...." and than he pees himself. A moment of silence from the entire group. The gun weilding man runs away mostly out of embarresment at that point

And that is when the group notices Jacky, hard not to at this point. Some immedialty begin moving towards him assuming he was here to stop them. One even goes to try and take a swing with his bat at Jacky torso!

As for Boris he tackles one of the turn men from behind knocking him to the ground. The man complain "Get this thing off me! Weighs a ton!" he laments

Some go to try and help him...bashing Boris' back with those bats and pipes of there with a clear intent on tyring to hurt him.
Jacky Diamond Yeah, the guy with the black mask over his eyes in "Dread Pirate Roberts" style is probably doing something suspicious so would be noticed now.

Jacky's not a martial artist, nor is he a baseball, so he decides that the bat would hurt. In fact, he has a premonition that it would mean a broken rib. So he turns into pure, living crystalline carbon. A living diamond. In the sketchy yellow late-night scramble of streetlamps and bar signs and random traffic lights, he was already hard to see clearly in the mixed shadows of the alley, so when the bat hits with the solid WHACK that sounds like hitting an anvil with the same bat, and the ZING travels to the man's fingers, well, it might be easy to confuse any pained cries from the bat-wielder for coming from the masked guy. But then when he grabs then straight-arms the two closing from either side, tossing them like beanbag chairs, the risk might be higher.

"Run now and I won't make it so you lose bowel control at the sight of your mothers. You want humanity to survive? Stop attacking your future, morons." Jacky says, making his voice sound a bit raspy. Not BatMan raspy, just enough to disguise it.
Boris There were at first cheers when the muggers heard the cri... and than anger tapping of weapons when it turns out Jacky was unphased. Haters can be idiots and this guys were no exception! Several charge Jacky at once thinking that he couldn't defend from multiple attacks in that form!

Some contine to bash boris harder and harder the young teen having had rolled off their friend. He was curled up, back facing the sky...almost cowarding really as they hit him. The cracking was getting worse as trashcans begin to fall over, and entire dumpsters begin to vibrate...bricks above start to fall - but uncontrolled anger made it so they didn't care

Boris eventualy shouts out in german "LEAVE ME ALONE!" with thick bone spikes or fins suddenly erupting from his back and through his coat - at the same time the tremor becomes a steady pulse that will at least knock some of the muggers down.
Jacky Diamond Have you ever seen an elephant being attacked by kittens? Well, this isn't quite that bad. The Living Diamond is not going to be damaged by a gang of three or a gang of ten normal people, but they might be able to impede his ability to move freely. On the upside, when they try to grapple him, he can mess with their heads by way of touch-ranged "pushing" -- just enough to make things weird for them. On the downside, even five of them can grab him enough that he won't be able to punch through without hurting them. He tries to get closer to the guy they're attacking, and manages to almost get close enough to touch.

The first thing he does is rather evil. He made one man wet himself. He pushes an aura of lust. The longer they hold onto him, the more they'll feel like they're being turned on by touching him. Which, well. Most of the bigots Jacky has met are also somewhat phobic. The second thing he does is to jerk his head back as an unexpected back-spike comes a bit close to his face. The third thing he does, is to form a mental image of a beach on Long Island. It'll be a stretch but ... he can move himself and the spikey guy there if he can touch him. And anyone else who's stupid enough to keep touching him.
Boris The man that pees himself jumps off confused as to why he even did that! And well... yes most of the folks here were indeed phobics. They held out at first...but the thought of being turned on by a mutant disgusted them and they hopped off shivering in dismay! A few get knocked out be falling bricks as the tremors kept going, and some began to run away. All stopped touching Jacky by now!

Which freed him up to touch Boris were they would be promptly teleported to the beach on long island. Boris himself tremoring stops when he notices solid concrete is suddenly... sand? Confused he slowly stands up (which considering his short statue isn't much) and turns slowly...before finally stopping on Jacky. Even within his goggles, one could tell he was bewildered
Jacky Diamond "Are you all right?" Jacky asks, leaning forward to rest his hands on his knees like a runner who just sprinted 40 meters in ten seconds. Winded. He doesn't revert to normal flesh and blood though.

"I brought us," he gasps, "here where it's," gasp, "safer."

The beach is the one which hosted the Coney Island amusement park, back in the day. There may still be some sign of it now, even, but anything there would be closed.
Boris Boris watches Jacky warily...but he did bring them to where it was safe. The tremors start up again as bewilderment turns to nervousness... but it was no where as strong as it was in the alley

"...Ah... ah be fine" he finally says. He didn't trust Jacky... even if Jacky did help him. He glances at the amusement park, and around and clearly did not recgonize where they were "...vat is vis place?" he asks in heavily accented english

He gingerly touches his back...and feels the bone like fin...his eyes buldge and he swallows hard. He tries to push panic and other thoughts to the back of his mind as Jacky suddenly becomes very very interesting
Jacky Diamond Jacky lets himself fall back onto the sand, which in the light of a half-moon makes it clear that he's not human. Not the everyday kind anyway. The whole "made of diamond" thing is rather different, anyway. He might be mistaken for glass, except that the light catches very well on the tips of his hair and so forth. He's stopped pushing emotions, of course.

"So my name is Jacky. I take it you're new to the wonderful mutant life?"

Because, he seemed surprised at the spike that grew out of his back. He looks a bit like someone crossed a powerlifting dwarf with a shark. Or also that the ESP attack that brought Jacky to Metropolis earlier, also gave him a strong sense that there was a mutant in danger.
Boris Boris tilts left and right seeing...that crystaline structure of Jacky. It was somewhat entrancing, and a welcome distraction. Also it reminded him of food...he groands silently to himself at that thought

"Ummmm...Ah be Boris Breitbarth" he says before saying more quietly "...ah not be a mutant" he claims shuffling uncomfortably. It easy to tell he was distressed. Oh he definintly was

He...plops on the ground the tremors subsiding. He was emotionly drained and perhaps a bit mentally too. Despite the bashing...the kid didn't look worse for wear as if the weapons had no effect...any visible effect anyways.
Jacky Diamond "You sure about that?" Jacky says. His extra sense is usually right about that kind of thing, but maybe it's an old, inherited thing? That's a thing that happens, right? It's why humans walk upright instead of swinging in trees.

"Oh. We're on Long Island. Coney Island Park area. I spent a few summers grifting, uh, I mean, I worked. In the park. When I was a teenager. So I remember it well enough to blind-teleport to it. I figured if anyone else came along they'd be confused."
Boris Boris cross his arms stubbornly "YES" he snaps at Jacky. Which, Jacky may be able to tell its a lie, something the kid didn't want to admit. His stomech growls and he goes to remove his backpack...and finds it gone. The formation of his back fins having cut the straps off.

He grumbles some dwarven swears before looking over Jacky "Ah not know vat vis ....griftin iz, fancy word for work." he looks back at the park as he clearly didn't recognize the names Jacky gives. "...seems fine place to work" he tugs at his beard regretting running from home
Jacky Diamond Yeah, the kid's a mutant all right. Jacky shrugs.

"Grifting is usually when you do petty swindles, trick people out of a bit of money, not enough for them to be really mad at you but also enough to make it worthwhile. I advise against it as a long-term life plan."

He sits up, feeling less winded.

"You lost your backpack? I can take us back there, but I need to snoop it out first. Make sure they're not still there."

He closes his eyes, and after a moment he can see the alley where the attack happened.
Boris "So...yer a theif?" Boris asks warily. Well, the man did help him..and seemed to want to help get his pack back. "And aye...lost me pack" he confirms

The alleyway was indeed empty. The backpack left behind, and everything all clear. So it seem relativly safe
Jacky Diamond "No, I //was// a con-artist, which is not the same. I wasn't very good at it either. The person who taught me wouldn't let me use my powers, because it was unfair."

And, Jacky reaches a hand over, expecting that Boris will take it. It isn't absolutely necesssary, but it's much easier if he does. The moment that happens, Jacky will transport them to the alley again. He won't be quite as exhausted, but it's still exhausting.
Boris Boris looks dubious at the statement at best. He eyes the hand and than Jacky and back again...kid had serious trust issues. But they gotten this far right? He gingerly takes the hand and poof there back in the alleyway again!

It was completly deserted, even some of the weapons were left behind. Boris jumps a bit startled at the teleport before glancing about. He even feels himself to make sure he was all there. A shiver and he retrieves his pack "Ahah!" he looks to Jacky and steepls his fingers

After a moment he says quietly but sincerly "...ermmm.... thank you Mr.Jacky"
Jacky Diamond "You're welcome. Now, let's get you to a safe place without interruptions, OK?"

Jacky heads for the end of the alley still diamond, and looks either way. Once it's clear that it's clear, he returns to flesh and blood, and his Esper sense extends out MUCH further. He's still tired, but now he's also hungry. He pulls a PayDay bar from inside his coat, opening it and taking the bent and broken contents out.

"You... uh, no, I don't think this would be good for you," Jacky says, starting to offer half before catching the vibe that the high-fructose corn syrup holding the peanuts to the sweet sweet center would go all uncool and gnarly in Boris's mouth.
Boris "And what place vould vat be?" Boris ask carefully following. He feels the bone fins again and tries to retract them....not working. He tries again looking to really concentrate....and the most the fins do is kind of flattened... but yea, quite an obviouse mutant

He eyes the PayDay "..." and hangs his head in a sigh "....of course it willnea" he come to accept that. "Ah... packed food" and he bring out...a rock. A litteral rock.
Jacky Diamond "Well... where did you come from in the first place?"

Stop, Jacky. Do not. No. It would be really easy to comment about minerals. Just don't. The guy can't eat a candy bar, which is a world-class tragedy.

"And what were you looking for when you went wandering?"
Boris "Well, Germany" Boris says "Before we moved over here...for some sort of special school. Not enrolled yet, do not want to enroll"

Boris takes a bite out of the rock like it was made of of cotton candy. No trouble at all. Though he clearly was glancing at the candy bar....world class tragedy indeed

"....ah waz...running away from home" he admits
Jacky Diamond "Special school?" OK, very funny, Esper sense. "You know, I went to a special school when my powers were first coming in. It helped a lot being around other people who weren't judging me or freaking out. There was a guy who looked like a gorilla, and another guy who made everything around him super-cold until he learned how to control it."

Jacky starts heading in what feels like the "right" direction. He's not sure what's down that way. But the vibrations are good. So to speak.
Boris "Aye...they...well he wants to see which one is best" Boris says as he follows "Wan was called..." he thinks "Xaviers School fer Gifted Childrenz" he nods feeling that is right "Und vee other is...Academy of Tommorow" he says.

Boris blinks "Really? Gorilla and...super cold?" he asks. He thinks about it occasionly touching his back...still bit freaked out about it. "....well...guess it sounds nice" he says but wasn't completly buying it, as he was onguard
Jacky Diamond Jacky grins a bit to himself.

"I went to Xavier's school. It was pretty good. I was a horrible hateful brat for a while, though. I didn't think I should have to get along with ordinary humans, which ... is kinda like a guy who's an artist thinking he should boss everyone else around because they can't make a drawing and he can make a picture that looks real. Hey, what's down this way, anyway?"

Because the path is feeling more and more correct.
Boris Boris cants his head "Everyone should get along, nothing wrong with peace" he says to that "But yea, artist bossing folks around...had kid in old school who was like vat. Everywan wanted ta egg him" he says feeling calmer now

And then he seems to realize the path were taking, and his heart sinks and rise at the same time. "....tempoary home me and mah folks are stayin in" he says to Jacky
Jacky Diamond "Huh. Well, probably safest place to be right now. You want me to talk with your folks, or keep quiet about the attack?"

Jacky's not about to make things harder for Boris ... he's not a bad guy, he just has a lot of free-floating grumpiness that may be leading him to make Bad Decisions. Maybe.
Boris "They probally willnea care. Their tryin to get rid of me anyways" he says crossing his arms and not looking at Jack. Uprooted from home, taken to a place he dosn't know...and possibly dorming with a school he never been. Alot of free-floating grumpiness was right...but was his statement true?

None the less the feeling would tae Jack infront of a simple apartment building...with stairs leading to a door that seems to be basement which feels like the right door to take....even if one can hear argueing in a different language comming from there.
Jacky Diamond "Are they? They might just want you to be where you can learn to control things better. I can tell you for sure, I think, but I'm not sure you want me to read their minds. That's kind of an invasion of privacy. It would be better to talk to them and tell them how you feel about all this."

Look at Jacky being all careful about privacy and being a good guy after messing with the Haters earlier. Because if Boris DOES go to the Xavier School, he'll probably end up with Xavier telling him the same thing about talking to parents. It's kind of what he made Jacky do with his uncle, who somehow still loves him. The poor sap.

"That's it there, the basement?"
Boris Boris grunts and eyes the door suspicsouly even crossing his arms "...Ah not be so sure as you" he says. He sighs and approaches the door. One last touch of his back...before knocking loudly

The fighting ceases for the moment and there is a the sound of movement. The door swings open and reveals a large german man. He looks down at Boris and excalims "Oh Vank zie lord! Do zie know how worried zee hauf ma..." and pauses as he stares at the fins comming out of Boris' back. "...get inside now" he seemed worried someone might actually try and harm Boris

Boris listen but is wary of going in. The father looks Jacky up and down narrowing his eyes "....ah hope he did not cause zie too much trouble"

A woman voice is heard from inside "I told you, I do not want this monster in this house! You couldn't just leave it outside!"

The man becomes red face and yells back inside "He is our son, not a thing woman!" oh boy, there a hornet nest right there...but still safer than the streets.
Jacky Diamond And, Jacky is profoundly annoyed at that display of Motherly Love. To hell with privacy. What is her PROBLEM?

While his Esper sense goes to work digging at that, Jacky says, "My name's Jack Winters. Your son didn't cause any trouble at all. Other people did, but I was lucky enough to be there so we could get him out of there before anyone was badly hurt. I'm a graduate of the Xavier school, by the way."

He offers a hand to shake, though he'll have to block things so he won't get into the father's head too much -- but then if the vibes are better that way, it'll still happen.

"Oh, and nobody noticed us coming back."
Boris What her problem? Well as it stands, yes Boris mother is a Bigot, disgusted that she gave birth to a mutant and as far as she was concerned Boris was nothing more than trash to be tossed out and forgotten...mabey even imprisoned in a cage like some anial. Like they did on genosha all those years back. Oh yea, she /definintly/ wanted to get rid of Boris was quite vocal about it! No wonder the kid seemed so...ashamed of himself

Boris' father takes Jacky hand and gives a firm shake. Boris' father was /alot/ better...but he was worried about the fact Boris was a mutant. Wonder if his son was now dangerous or even still human. Old enough to have been raised in time when prejudice agaist mutant was rampant....but unlike the mother - he still legitametly cared about Boris and his well being. He didn't want Boris to go away...but felt it would truely be in his sons best interest to be around other mutants. "Good. Ah do nit need trouble for...my family"

There was a sense of oncomming divorce...the man will not let this woman still in his sons life to berate him like she does.
Jacky Diamond Jacky gives a nod at the man's concern, and says, "My uncle always says that the trouble of the day is sufficient unto itself. Which, today, I choose to think it means that you're doing the right thing in finding him a better environment."

He tilts his head slightly, and says in the father's head, //*I can tell you that his mutation partakes of both his parents. I wish I could help your wife overcome her fear and hate.*//

He turns to Boris. "If you decide on the Xavier school, tell them I met you. So you know ... my mother just walked out the door and vanished from our lives when I was five years old. I'm glad you had yours for longer. It's better for a child to have a memory of a mother's love, even if it isn't strong enough to last."

Take that, old woman.
Boris Boris father eyesbrow rise when the Jack speak into his head. "But....we are...normal?" he didn't quite understand it. He shakes it off and says "Well, if we do, ah vill make sure to mention vat. Seems vee school puts out good sorts" meaning he appreciates Jacky

The mother pipes up "Why don't you take tha..."

The father cuts off "One more word and YOU will be staying on the streets."

Boris stayed quiet and simply nods. Despite being short...he was trying to make himself as small as possible. No wonder the kid ran away. Between mutating...and the enviroment he is in currently, well it alot for anyone "....aye. Ah will do vat" he dosn't want to go in clearly

Boris' father steps up once more "Eitherway, vank sie Mr. Winters" he looks to Boris "Let get zie inta bed proper now" he says and puts a protective arm about Boris' shoulder

The door is closed normally...but not even 2 minutes later and the fighter was starting back up. It will be a /long/ night for the teen.
Jacky Diamond Jacky frowns, hearing that starting up, and realizes that, short of putting the mother into a coma, there won't be peace in the valley. He steps across space into his apartment behind his Uncle's house, and fires up his computer. An email to the Xavier School follows. Recommendation: get the kid out, and get the mother some therapy. Though the school can't ensure that part.
